[Bug 67189] Re: smb password not being saved in gnome keyring

2006-11-26 Thread Brian
I think what people have been wanting (or at least me) is for the status
to be changed from 'Needs Info' to 'Confirmed' since there is evidence
that numerous users are experiencing this bug and so we know someone has
at least acknowledged it.

Thanks for all your hard work and time!

[Bug 72016] Re: Upgrading from 6.06 to 6.10 -- misconfigured swap partition entry in fstab

2006-11-26 Thread Gerhard Radatz
Thanks, I tried it and it worked.

However, do you have any idea why they are using UUIDs now? Before, I
changed my /etc/fstab back to directly referencing my /dev/hda9 swap
partition (as it was before Ubuntu 6.10) and this worked well, too

So they introduced another source of problems, as it seems.

[Bug 73334] menus highlighted

2006-11-26 Thread Amichai Teumim
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kubuntu-desktop

When I right click on icons on my panel the menus are highlighted or for
example if I right click on the KDE menu icon and want to select Remove
K Menu Entry it highlights everythign until there. So Panel Menu and
Menu Editor are highlighted.

I just noticed now that if I do this once it remains highlighted until I
log out.

It only happens with KDE apps. For example Firefox is also on my panel
and it doesn't do that.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. Unfortunately, we are not able
to fix and find the bug because your description of the bug didn't have enough
information in it. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively,
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html.
We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the
problem.

Debugging procedures for certain types of problems can be found at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

1. What were you doing at the time of the crashes?
2. What version of Ubuntu are you using?
3. What version of Firefox are you using?
4. What Firefox extensions and plugins do you have installed?

Martin, you may be right, I don't know. But at the moment Beagle _can_

Should beagle listen to udev/nautilus (or whatever is appropriate) to
see when the user requests to eject media so it can respond suitably?

[Bug 73337] sdiff calling editor fails

2006-11-26 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
Public bug reported:

This bug was originally submitted on Debian (see lines below), and I can
reproduce it on my Edgy system using diff 2.8.1-11ubuntu3.

*
From: Jaap Eldering [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: Debian Bug Tracking System [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: sdiff calling editor fails
Date: Wed, 27 Jul 2005 19:59:16 +0200

Package: diff
Version: 2.8.1-11
Severity: important

when running sdiff in interactive mode (with -o option), it fails in the
end with the message sdiff: subsidiary program `editor' failed where
editor is set by the EDITOR environment variable (or ed by default).

This seems to happen independently of the editor used (even /bin/true
fails) and also with a version I compiled from GNU sources. The bug is
not present in the woody version of sdiff (2.7).

[Bug 73339] frequency is not configured after gnomeradio start

2006-11-26 Thread psl
Public bug reported:

Gnomeradio 1.6, Ubuntu 6.06.1.

Gnomeradio doesn't configure frequency in HW radio after start.

Example:
1) Gnomeradio is tuned to frequency 95.6 MHz (FM), your favorite station is
there, crystal clear sound.
2) Switch off your PC. (reset is not enougth as in most cases as HW radio keeps
frequency configuration)
3) Power on PC and when Ubuntu is stated, you start Gnomeradio. It shows 95.6
MHz on the display but you hear a noise only.
4) You have to tune frequency (or switch to some preset station) to configure
frequency in HW radio.

Gnomeradio remember the last station tuned, this is good but it doesn't
configure station frequency to the HW after start; this is a bug.

[Bug 73337] Re: sdiff calling editor fails

2006-11-26 Thread Bernat Tallaferro
My EDITOR environment variable is not set, so sdiff tries to use 'ed'
(which I've also got installed) and the message I'm getting after
running:

  sdiff -o diff.txt diff1.txt diff2.txt

and doing a merge is the following:

  sdiff: subsidiary program `ed' failed

funnily enough, the merge seems to work regardless of the error message.

For some reason, links are being setup recursively and thus causing the package

[Bug 72616] Re: Kernel takes a 6 minutes break and go outside take a cup of coffee

2006-11-26 Thread Istvan Botka
It is similar to Bug #67299 and Bug#73312.
There is some raid array constructed from not partitions but whole disks.
The mdadm package has a component that runs at boot time from initramfs.
(/usr/share/initramfs-tools/scripts/local-top/md)
This script scans only partitions but no whole disks as a member of any raid
array to determine what raid-level module needs to be loaded into the kernel.
When the computer boots up and the raid array constructed from whole disks it
causes a wait up to~3-5 minutes. I have attached a patch to fix this.

(You need to re-run update-initrd after apply the patch)

[Bug 72172] Re: whishlist: support for recently used applications

2006-11-26 Thread kmon
Hi

When filling gnome's bugzilla I cloned one of my bug report in order to
track it on both packages (since the patches are needed in both gnome-
dekstop and gnome-panel), is that the correct way to do so? I want to
know if comments added to a bug report will be reported on both. For the
mean time today I've added a comment on both reports about the links to
the patches. Maybe I sould also post a comment with a link to the
original bug report (here in launchpad)?

thanks

[Bug 73345] X crashes when using Xv or fullscreen-SDL with binary nvidia driver

2006-11-26 Thread James \Doc\ Livingston
Public bug reported:

I've recently install Feisty, and when using the proprietry NVidia
driver X crashes when anything tries to use Xv or a SDL application
tries to switch to fullscreen. Everything works fine with the open-
source nv driver. It also occurs with the shipped 8000-series driver
and a manual install (or third party package install) of the 9000-series
driver.

Using ximagesink instead of xvimagesink for GStreamer applications or turning
the use of Xv off in other applications makes that work.

SDL applications work windowed, but whenever they try to start up
fullscreen, or change to fullscreen when running X crashes.

Attaching gdb to X before it crashes in an attempt to get a backtrace doesn't
help, as it's all inside the binary nvidia code (which obviously lacks debug
symbols). If there are any useful logs I could post, or anything else that
would help, let me know.

[Bug 62751] Re: Upstart doesn't activate luks volumes in cryptsetup

2006-11-26 Thread Jari Kankaala
Just did a fresh install of Edgy Eft and found to my delight that the
mounting of encrypted volumes now works without any patching. It stops
and asks repeatedly for a passphrase. There is only a small problem, LVM
tries to mount before the encrypted volumes. If I enter the passphrase,
continue the boot, login and manually start LVM then it works fine.
Guess it's only a matter of changing the order in which services get
started. Not sure how I should do it correctly myself but maybe someone
knowledgeable can do it, or show me how it's done.

[Bug 73344] Re: Please sync agave (universe) from unstable (main)

2006-11-26 Thread Steve Kowalik
The Ubuntu changes in this package can be dropped, they are:

 * A fix for building against gcc-4.1, which has been dragged in upstream in
0.4.1.
 * Calling dh_iconcache in the debian/rules file, which is unnecessary, as the
Debian version of agave uses CDBS, which gives us dh_iconcache for free.

[Bug 59512] Re: beagle must be stopped to eject removable drive

2006-11-26 Thread Brandon Hale
The upstream bug unfortunately does not have a full discussion from Joe,
but the most significant challenge to hotplugging beagle is where do I
keep the index? (many writes in one place on a flash device ruin the
blocks), and ignoring results from this index when the device goes away.
Upstream is thinking through these issues, there is no magic wand to be
waved here in Ubuntu land to make this behave nicely. We recommend not
indexing removable media.

[Bug 73346] Sound coming out of server instead of terminal in ltsp edubuntu

2006-11-26 Thread rob
Public bug reported:

edubuntu 6.10
thin client IBM pc 300gl with pxe boot

I checked the export settings when starting programs from the menu and
I'm seeing:
export ESPEAKER='192.168.0.150:16001'
so that looks good.
The only sound that works on the client are:
-the test tones in sound preferences
-mouseover on an mp3 file on the desktop (top shows this as mpg123)

So I wonder if this is hogging the sound device. I tried to uninstall
mpg123 but apt says its not installed - I suspect its part of another
package, in any case I disabled it by renaming the binary and
rebooting - no joy sound still comes out of the server.

For some reason, links are being setup recursively and thus causing the
package to not work properly. After checking the actual .deb file, it appears
to me that the proper files are included. I do not know enough, however, to
explain why they aren't being copied to the correct places.
+
+ There are other bugs reported against mplayer (I think) that may be
+ caused by these recursive links but, embarrassingly, I'm having a
+ horrible time with launchpad and can not find them again.

[Bug 73347] gnome-app-install on edgy hangs during check

2006-11-26 Thread Caspar Clemens Mierau
Public bug reported:

gnome-app-install on edgy hangs during Checking installed and available
applications - it does not crash, it just does not close this screen.

Error appeared today for the first time after I tried to install a lot
of applications at once with an error message about something is broken.
I updated the packages afterwards and now I cannot use gnome-app-install
(but apt-get for instance).

Please let me know if there is a way of giving more detailed information
by using gdb when an application just hangs. I will not further try to
fix the problem so long to make the error reproducable.

Attached you find my sources.list with some non standard repositories.

[Bug 71200] Re: No programs can be added in the startup list.

2006-11-26 Thread geokok
Allow me to strongly doubt that. The reasons for that are:

1. The system was flawed since it was in a relatively virgin state,
meaning that I encountered the problem in a relatively fresh
installation the very first time i tried to add programs to the start up
list.

2. Others have encountered the problem as mentioned in the forums. It is
highly unlikely that we all screwed up the system in the same way!!!

3. I hardly knew at the time of the bug report how to change permissions
in the system as a user. U see, CLI was something unknown to me at the
time so I dont see how I could break it in that way..all I had
done before discovering the bug was installing some apps through
synaptic, such as Banshee and others, very mainstream apps

That bug shows this as a duplicate:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358483

Which in states: (Richard Hughes)
I know, this is known broken. When more distros start shipping PolicyKit (and
maybe another project that Jon is working on) then this will be fixed properly
(i.e. managed), but I'm not sure there is anyway we can bodge this on g-p-m's
side. I think ubuntu use check-forground-console or something. That might be
worth looking into as a temp fix.

[Bug 54154] Re: kpdf ignores duplex printing settings and forces duplex

2006-11-26 Thread Daniel Frein
I can confirm this too (KPDF 0.5.5/Ubuntu edgy/HP LJ 2200d): kpdf prints
as duplex (longside), regardless of the setting in the printer dialog or
the printer driver's default setting (via CUPS). This reminds me on bug
47649 (kpdf always prints as portrait and never as landscape), which
also describes a case where kpdf ignores the appropriate print settings
