[Bug 72744] Re: Wesnoth installs with no campaigns
I installed wesnoth and it took me ages to figure out why clicking Campaign had no effect -- because there were no campaigns installed. I had installed Wesnoth with Add/Remove... (on Edgy) and there are no campaign packages visible there. If I had used synaptic I would probably have noticed them. There is no way to get this information. Furthermore user input in postinst should not be used and is a violation of the Ubuntu packaging principles. [Bug 72304] Re: Deleted items folder name doesn't make sense
Sridhar, Consistency across the desktop is a very good thing to aim for. Adopting an existing term instead of pulling a new one out of a hat is also a very good idea. However, the existing term you've picked is not satisfactory. Users may be aware of what it means to delete a file, but anyone can see that a menu item 'Delete from Deleted Items folder' is just silly. Your choice of term was by design, but the consequences is has are buggy: hence the bug report. I apologize for being too hasty initially -- you're right, I should have signed up to the list before diving in to the wiki. But I must ask you to reopen this and address it. You've still not actually justified the specific choice of 'Deleted Items'. In changing the 'Trash/Delete' concept to 'Delete/Permanently Delete' you're not translating the interface, you are redesigning it, and that isn't your job. -- Deleted items folder name doesn't make sense https://launchpad.net/bugs/72304 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 49127] Re: Long file names are truncated without warning
Hi, sry, but I think this is a problem with NOT truncating the file names, as they are long but not long enough to not follow the RockRidge preferences. However, they are too long for Joliet players, so the files aren't even identified by this players. I had this problem not long ago, and I was wondering why some files weren't played in my car stereo, though xmms/mpg321 played them. After I burnt them with k3b, which gives respect to the Joliet preferences in the burn dialog and thus telling you to shorten the file names to an appropriate length, my car stereo plays them as usual. [Bug 47705] Re: Broken install should provide some guidance
A bit of clarification: what happened was that the config of a package (pcmcia-cs I think) caused a hard crash + reboot. Thus, on reboot, I needed to manually invoke dpkg form the command line to finish off the install. At that point it would have been nice to have a message saying something like Your upgrade was unexpectedly interrupted (power failure, hardware problem, system crash). Type dpkg ... to resume I don't recall the exact state of the X11 packages at that point, but I think it was more of a missing/half-configured packages problem than that the actual X config files were broken. [Bug 75581] Mathematica plugin for TeXmacs broken in Edgy
Public bug reported: Also the Mathematica plugin (as well as the Maple and Maxima plugins) is broken in Ubuntu Edgy, since the file tm_mathematica.c is missing from the distribution. The simple fix is to go to the page www.texmacs.org, download an rpm for the last version of texmacs (1.0.6.7), extract the directory plugin/mathematica and use it to substitute the plugin in /usr/share/texmacs/TeXmacs/plugins. Everything should work then (checked with Mathematica 5.2). Please correct these bugs: texmacs is extremely useful as an interface to various mathematical programs, but the user should be allowed to run the plugins seamlessly. TeXmacs has the potential to become a standard for the production of scientific papers, and that's a pity that Ubuntu is not supporting it as it deserves (how is it that most bugs in TeXmacs are still unconfirmed although they are so easily reproduced and fixed?) ** Affects: texmacs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Mathematica plugin for TeXmacs broken in Edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/75581 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 75582] Edgy LiveCD : unexpected volatility persistance of files
Public bug reported: Hi, I suspect this to be a unionfs issue. Steps to reproduce: - Boot on Edgy Live CD i386 - When desktop is ready, open a nautilus window for ~ - Open another window for somewhere deep e.g: /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/usb - In a terminal, do cd ~ sudo mv -ft . /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/net Symptoms: As expected, the 'net' directory appears in the first nautilus window. But when doing 'reload', it disappears ! Doing ls in the terminal confirms that: the 'net' directory seems absent. Additionaly, if the command is invoked again: sudo mv -ft . /lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/net .. then this error is shown: mv: cannot move `/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/usb/net' to a subdirectory of itself, `./net' This behavior is extremely nasty for people using the edgy LiveCD as a means to test things safely :( Any clue about how to disable unionfs on some mountpoints ?
