[Bug 95355] Tooltips partially obscured when using larger mouse cursors

2007-03-24 Thread Martijn van de Streek
Public bug reported:

I have my mouse cursors set to a larger size, and that works great, but
the tooltips in most programs tend to pop up behind the cursor,
obscuring the first word.

And you can't move your mouse to read it -- the tooltip will disappear.

I think the tooltip-display-algorithm should look at the mouse cursor's
size when determining where to display.

[Bug 38886] Re: File size limit exceeded - smbfs (unable upload larger file than 2GB)

2007-03-24 Thread Gilles
The samba/cifs protocol has a part that is dedicated to negociate if
large files are supported or not. The only thing is that the samba mount
command will report itself has not supporting large files unless the
lfs flag is used.

I must admit at some point I have been thinking of reversing the logic
in the code and have large file support on by default (at least on the
client side, the resolution will still occur, so if the server does not
support it then there are no problems).

However, the best solution would be to check if there is a flag
somewhere in the kernel indicating that large file support is currently
activated. I will try to have a look. But, still, does anyone knows if
this would cause problems? (I must admit I am still wondering why this
lfs flag was used. There could be some reasons that we are unaware
of...)

[Bug 95357] georgewilliams Monospace font takes over the fontconfig/pango monospace virtual font

2007-03-24 Thread Michael R. Head
Public bug reported:

Georgewilliams has a font named Monospace. This overrides the
monospace virtual font that is used in a number of places in the
desktop, including in gnome-terminal, gedit, and firefox. Worse, the
georgewilliams monospace font is somewhat ugly (it doesn't seem to work
well with subpixel font rendering, leaving very colorful boundaries and
hard-to-read text).

Is it possible to rename the font so that this doesn't happen? I'd like
to have the ttf-georgewilliams fonts installed, but I don't want to have
to change all the font settings in my apps to use DejaVu Sans Mono or
Bitstream Vera Sans Mono.

[Bug 49567] Re: list view doesn't expand subfolder when clicking on arrow if entry is selected

2007-03-24 Thread Roshan Shariff
I can confirm this bug on the Feisty beta. It doesn't work most of the
time, but sometimes it does. This only happens in list view (in either
browser or spatial mode) but not in other trees (like the one in the
browser view side pane).

One way of reliably triggering it is to select a subdirectory, and
slowly slide your mouse towards the extender from the right until it
highlights. The extender is now unresponsive to clicks, indicating a
mismatch between the region where it highlights itself and where it
responds to clicks.

However, very often it fails to respond even when clicked squarely on
the arrow. Usually it'll start responding again after a lot of retries
and moving the mouse around.

All this is seen only on selected entries. Other entries work perfectly
every time.

[Bug 93331] Re: Kernel doesn't scale my CPU.

2007-03-24 Thread Daniel Swarbrick
Ben committed the patch to the Ubuntu kernel git tree, but I don't think
the packages have been rebuilt as of yet. I applied the patch myself to
existing linux-source-2.6.20 package, and speedstep works fine.

I guess it's only a matter of time (and getting approval from the
release team) to sneak this one in before Feisty ships.

[Bug 95359] evolution month view printing problem

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have already written to gnome bugs, but maybe this is ubuntu bug.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409536

I select month view and print it. But if the summary in appointment is longer
than about two words, evolution can't print it completely. (16th and 17th day
in attached file)

[Bug 95360] evolution can't print correctly previous and next months in the upper corners

2007-03-24 Thread mikko sorri
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have already written to gnome bugs, but maybe this is ubuntu font bug, not
source problem.
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=409546

There's six weeks for example in December 2007 (joulukuu in Finnish)
Evolution prints correctly only months which have five weeks. There's no extra
space for the sixth week. (December 31th 2007)
(file1)

I don't know why but in month view evolution prints December correctly.
(file2)

There's also too short space for Month names. In Finnish, November
(marraskuu) has 9 letters. And now it's too long word and goes out of
margins. (file 3)

And too short space for the day names, MoTuWe..

[Bug 94671] Re: fails to detect modelines in Feisty

2007-03-24 Thread EvanCarroll
Solution worked, adding note to top! Maybe X needs a wrapper, if it get
the error message it appends the section file and restarts? This will
definitely break a lot of installs, as most older monitors don't report
right.

[Bug 95364] Enabling nvidia driver reset xorg settings

2007-03-24 Thread marble
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: restricted-manager

On initial install, xorg was configured with a uk keyboard map, and
detected the correct resolution for my monitor (1280x800). After using
restricted-manager to enable nvidia driver for the GeForce 6200Go on my
Vaio VGN-S3XP, the keymap had been changed to 'us' and the resolution
had been changed to 1024x768.

[Bug 82986] Re: No sound after initial install

2007-03-24 Thread jubilee33
Hi Toby,

Sorry about the late reply. I have filed a bug report at ALSA which can
be viewed at https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-
bug/view.php?id=2492. But there hasn't been any resolution.

I was originally using Ubuntu Dapper (clean installation) and right
after installation there was no sound at all. Not even the login sound.
I tried following all the guides out there and didn't encounter any
error during the process but in the end, still no sound. So I waited
for Ubuntu Edgy to be released. I also wiped out the whole hard drive
(including the WinXP partition) and did a clean installation. Same
story. It is still a dual boot with WinXP and the sound works fine in
WinXP, which really is a shame.

Some results below:

[Bug 95362] Re: Desktop effects

2007-03-24 Thread sam Williams
Massimo, I was just passing through and I saw your bug report. I was
thinking about a couple of things that might prove useful in solving
the problem. I think the developers might be particularly interested in
the color depth that you have the card running under. I know from the
limited experience I've had with beryl or desktop-effects, any setting
smaller then 24 bit would not work properly. In a follow up you might
want to include your xorg.conf to help identify the problem. Good Luck..

[Bug 78037] Re: rt2500 in feisty: problem solution

2007-03-24 Thread norberto
Bad news guys. I have new information and I'm updating my last post.
It's not a bug. As you can see at:

http://live.gnome.org/NetworkManagerHardware

rt2500 drivers supports unencrypted and WEP networks when used with
NetworkManager. While the driver supports WPA, it does not use Linux
Wireless Extensions for WPA support, which is required for
NetworkManager.

I make some test and the drivers work fine in old fashion way without
NetworkManager.

Good luck next time...

[Bug 70774] Re: Boot fails with APIC enabled on an Asus A7V8X-X Motherboard

2007-03-24 Thread John Doe
This bug also occurs with Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn Beta. With APIC
enabled (when my bios is reset back to factory defaults), attempts to
boot Ubuntu 7.04 beta result in a reboot instead of booting just like
prior versions of Ubuntu. Passing the kernel command line options
acpi=off or pci=noacpi allow the boot to procede when APIC is
enabled.

I will attach relevant logs from Ubuntu 7.04 beta's kernel.

[Bug 89509] Re: Clicking Edit Partition shows wrong partition size

2007-03-24 Thread Stephen Gornick
I am experiencing the same problem. For example, all I wanted to do was
change the mount point for an existing ext3 partition (from
/media/hda[n]) to root partition (/). When I clicked on Edit partition,
the value in the field labeled New parititon size in megabytes was 0.
If I only changed the mount point, ubiquity then wanted to resize the
partition to 0.

I then canceled and re-launched Ubiquity and get the same behavior.
Other partition types (swap, ntfs) appeared to be getting the size pre-
filled in the field correctly.

[Bug 92299] Re: internet connection will not automatically connect after last update

2007-03-24 Thread Emmanuel Touzery
I don't understand why there is no reaction from developers to this bug.
That at least some configurations with static IPs don't work anymore in feisty,
with apparently no other workaround that deinstalling network-manager seem like
a serious problem to me.
Also the fact that it worked with 0.6.4-6ubuntu2 and not anymore with
0.6.4-6ubuntu3 should help to narrow the problem.

The changelog for ubuntu3 version was:

   * Manage some static devices we can understand. This should avoid the
problem people are having with NM marking the machine as offline when
it's just on static instead. LP #82335.

So obviously that change made network-manager decide to manage some
devices that it clearly cannot understand, since the connection is down
when it should be up.

anyway, i think that this bug in a final release would be quite bad.
