[Bug 99502] Re: check-disk stops if laptop boots only with battery

2007-03-31 Thread tom78
** Description changed:

  ASUS F3JA - IntelCore2Duo [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 1GB-RAM
When system needs a forced-check-disk (fsck) on boot, if laptops boots with
ac-power unplugged (only with battery), the fsck stops on the win-partition and
there's no way to resume. If it boots plugged to ac-power, there no problem
during/after the check.

Please reproduce the failure and attach /var/log/syslog (you can extract

I suppose anything's possible, but it seems unlikely that largefile

[Bug 99537] Re: command-not-found: gftp-common is not the right package to install gftp

2007-03-31 Thread Zygmunt Krynicki
This is quite problemtatic: the package that contains /usr/bin/gftp *is*
gftp-common
'/usr/bin/gftp' is a shell script that tries to lauch X or text mode gftp
front-end.

gft-common should be for the architecture 'all' and should depend on gftp-gtk |
gft-text
I suggest closing the bug here and filing one for gftp.

[Bug 97608] Re: Stalls during Boot up

2007-03-31 Thread Jeffrey
I was able to follow you instructions, however it did not help.

I dont think it is a problem with GRUB.

It will show a flash screen with a progress bar.
It will then ask me for my username and password.
It will then show another splash screen and start playing music.
Shortly after, this is when it will stop.

It is like the panels are never added. In the windows world, this would
be equivalent to the Explorer process never starting. All you see is a
blank screen and a cursor.

Re: [Bug 38540] Re: ACPI-ndiswrapper on Aspire 3000 or 5000 laptop doesn't wake until function button pressed

2007-03-31 Thread Ian Soutar
I did a clean install of Feisty Beta and the problem still happens.
Ndiswrapper was required to get the WIFI internal modem working.

But in addition, upon a new boot it does not work. You have to sleep
the machine and wake it up ... then the lights flash on the front and it
works.

This is true for both an Acer Aspire 3000 and an Aspire 5000.

So in summary you have to put the machine into a suspend mode and wake
it up. Suddenly the WIFI works. So on a clean boot the ACPI works
for all the peripherals to bring them on line except the WIFI card.
Suspend the machine and wake it up and ... it works. But on the next
clean boot it is asleep again.

Ian.

[Bug 99651] WPC11 v. 4 wireless PCMCIA card does not function, and wlan* is missing.

After doing a dist upgrade from Edgy Eft to Fesity Fawn Beta, my
Linksys WPC11 v.4 PCMCIA wireless card ceased functioning. I then
decided to perform a clean install; the card still did not function.

it's enough to build the kernel and kernel modules. that's the primary reason
that gcc is included in a default installation.

[Bug 67013] Re: User Management Module doesn't load

2007-03-31 Thread Ariel Faigon
Same problem here, still on Edgy (6.10)

I actually did have a /etc/shadow and obviously it was functional since
it its passwords were required/working all the time. However: running

 sudo shadowconfig on

revealed several inconsistencies, including:

invalid password file entry (had a comment in the file)
'xyz' is a member of the 'lp' group in /etc/group but not in /etc/gshadow
add group 'abc' in /etc/gshadow ?no matching group file entry in
/etc/gshadow
'abc' is a member of the 'dspam' group in /etc/gshadow but not in
/etc/group

Fixing all these errors, made shadowconfig happy.

It is possible that shadowconfig simply fails when run in batch and so
shadow remains partially disabled even though it seems to work for most
tasks. The user management module failing to load in system-settings
seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

[Bug 99650] compiz cube only has one desktop enabled by default

2007-03-31 Thread Daniel Derozier
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

The cube effect on compiz on my default feisty beta install didn't work.
A little poking around (= me installing gnome-compiz-manager) showed
that the cube effect had only one desktop enabled.

This can't possibly be the default behavior for compiz...and besides,
there's no easy way for the user to fix it unless gnome-compiz-manager
is installed. Is there a good reason why the system doesn't come with
gnome-compiz-manager by default?

[Bug 99647] gnome-screensaver does not reliably allow login after suspend

2007-03-31 Thread Justin Husted
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

Feisty Beta:

gnome-screensaver doesn't seem to reliably give me a login prompt after
sleep. I think the problem may be that it can't get input focus.

Example:
1. suspend laptop.
2. resume.
3. move mouse around, hit keys, etc.

Result:
This often works and gives me a password box I can type in, but sometimes the
screen is just black and won't respond to any input.

To work around this problem, I have to break to the console (ctrl-
alt-f1). Sometimes just returning to X11 without doing anything else
will cause the screensaver unlock to work.

I have a similar problem on Edgy on another machine, which has two
monitors: Without a suspend, just locking the screen, gnome-screensaver
often never allows me to log in again, and I'm forced to break to the
console and kill it. I don't know if the similar problem is actually
the same, but I thought I'd mention it as it might be easier to
reproduce. Note that I have these two monitors configured as two
screens (:0.0, :0.1) and not with xinerama.

Problems with gnome-screensaver unlock are severe, since they cause the
machine to appear completely locked up and dead. Most users would
consider the machine crashed, and probably power-cycle it.

You said it doesn't respond to ctrl-f1 -- does it respond to ctrl-alt-f1? This
breaks out of
X11 and should give you a console login. You can return with clt-f7.
