[Bug 73759] Re: Unable to connect to unsecured/unencrypted wireless networks

2007-04-04 Thread Chris Wagner
** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: network-manager-gnome
- (network-manager-gnome? Isn't this more likely to be a general
network-manager problem?)
+ (I (Chris Wagner) have hijacked this bug report to make it a place to
+ gather my findings and those of others, with regard to problems we've
+ had in connecting to unencrypted wireless access points using network-
+ manager.)

- I'm actually filing this on behalf of a coworker who is having issues
- connecting to unsecured wireless networks. We use WPA TKIP at our office
- and it works just fine. However, attempting to connect to an unsecured
- network fails everytime.
+ So far, my experience is a mixed bag. I am having the problems on an HP
+ laptop that has a bcm43xx-based chip. I can't say it with absolute
+ certainty, but I don't believe I've had trouble with connecting to an
+ encrypted access point. I do *usually* have trouble with connecting to
+ unencrypted access points, when using network-manager. The command-
+ line-based tools do seem to work okay for all networks; I can't recall
+ any specific issues. I have had this problem, or some form of it, since
+ Dapper, and I'm presently on Feisty. I want to say that I've had the
+ problem with both an ndiswrapper-based configuration and the native
+ bcm43xx driver. I am currently using the native bcm43xx driver.
+
+ The original reporter left this description (and has not since reported back)
on 2006-11-29:
+ ---
+ I'm actually filing this on behalf of a coworker who is having issues
connecting to unsecured wireless networks. We use WPA TKIP at our office and it
works just fine. However, attempting to connect to an unsecured network fails
everytime.

I'm not sure what additional information you'll need in terms of logging
(I've not seen any that really makes sense).

  Laptop: Dell Inspiron
  Wireless: broadcom (NOT using ndiswrapper)

The laptop is fully configured to use NetworkManager. The only entries
in /etc/network/interfaces are for lo. All interfaces are deconfigured
in the gnome networking tool. The laptop can switch fully between wired
and secure wireless networks but NOT unsecured wireless networks that
other laptops at the same location can use.

I'll post more information about model numbers and wireless card when I
can get on the laptop again.

** Summary changed:

- Unable to connect to unsecured/unencrypted wireless networks
+ Unable to connect to unsecured/unencrypted wireless networks (bcm43xx-based
chips only?)

2007-04-04 Thread Till Kamppeter
Johan, thank you very much for your help. With your help we have also
fixed an additional bug which is in both the HPLIP 1.7.1 and 1.7.3
releases.

Even if we finally decide on staying with 1.7.1, I will put Don's fix
into the package. In that case I would like if you test the packages
before release.

[Bug 91077] Re: Closing glxgears window causes xcb_xlib_lock assertion and sound interruption

2007-04-04 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
From aaronp:
I believe that this is not a bug in libGL. The library needs to unregister
its extension in its teardown path in case it is unloaded with dlclose(3).
The fact that this can happen from inside libX11 while the lock is held is an
issue that libX11 needs to be able to handle.

First: Congratulations it works !!!

What did I do:

Kubuntu live CD (beta1)

Upgraded all packages with an X*
Removed the old i810 driver
Installed the new driver

Result Kubuntu is the first of 10 distributions I tested which gives
the correct 1680x1050 resolution. Circles are round, fonts not fuzzy and
the display is within the physical dimensions of the monitor

Thanks
