2007-04-10 Thread Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
Hi guys,

the problem with edgy is a known kernel bug that freezes the machine.
The fix has been pushed to updates, but we need a new installer to grab
the fix and make edgy installable on those system again.

Use feisty for now.. it will be out in 10 days anyway.

Regarding the keyboard/USB message.. i will need a full dmesg from one
of you.

[Bug 105055] the patch

2007-04-10 Thread Sam Liddicott
This adds support for WiseGroup Ltd, MP-8800 Quad Joypad after similar
fashion for their dual joypad already supported.

I haven't compiled the patch - I edited the binary module with a hex
editor to fix-up the pci id (replaced 8866 of the supported dual joypad
with 8800), and that worked for me giving support for multiple joysticks
again - however the patch is obvious enough.

I have submitted the patch to linux-usb-devel but of course it won't
make 2.6.20 cos thats already out; so please add this to the Ubuntu
2.6.20 builds

[Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share

2007-04-10 Thread Conrad Knauer
would it be possible to create openX or similar,
essentially as a translation library for DirectX-OpenGL

As per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Direct3D_and_OpenGL

Several partially functional ports of the Direct3D API have been made
by Wine, a project to port common Windows APIs to Linux, but this work
is difficult due to the dependency of DirectX as a whole on many other
components of Windows.

IOW, Wine is your best (software libre) option at the moment.

the only thing keeping Windows on my home system is my addiction to a
game

Do a search on http://appdb.winehq.org/ to see to what extent people
have gotten that game you want to run working. You might also want to
consider virtualizing a version of Windows just for gameplay if it turns
out that it doesn't run great yet...

Re: [Bug 96532] Re: Wireless no longer works after upgrade

2007-04-10 Thread Brett Clippingdale
Sorry about this. I'm assuming you rebooted and didn't just
rmmod/modprobe, I'm too new to Ubuntu to know which services should
have been restarted to be 100% certain NM should work. You're tired
of this bug, and I'm out of ideas :-(

In any event, thanks for trying to get this working in Feisty, at
least for the rest of us. I hope this gets some attention from Ubuntu
devs, since I continue to get keyboard lockup (mouse OK, it turns out,
but I also have issues shutting down after this lockup) when trying to
connect to other, non-WEP networks. Otherwise NM/hostap is working
flawless, including after suspend/resume.

On 4/10/07, Acitta [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
Well, I tried the orinoco drivers. I still can't connect. At least I
am not getting a keyboard lockup. I am tired of dealing with this bug.
It seems clear to me that NetworkManager is too buggy for a stable
release. I should have stuck with Edgy where wireless networking worked
fine. I have been running Mandriva cooker for years and never had to
deal with a bug as problematic as this.

directly to cups (via xpp or plain lp) and telling the paper
orientation...

alas I can't test it anymore, since I installed feisty whose evolution
doesn't seem to have the ability to print landscape calendars at all...

[Bug 99790] Re: Unable to utilize keyboard on Blade 100 and 150

2007-04-10 Thread Paulo Tanimoto
Fabio,

Thanks for the attention, it's really appreciated.
Unfortunately, the Feisty installer isn't working either. So it's hard to get
debugging information.

When I dist-upgraded from Dapper, the keyboard was still not working. HOWEVER,
after a second reboot it started to work. I don't know what happened, but the
things I remember doing (through SSH) were:
1. dpkg-reconfigure console-setup (switched from Sun Type 5 to PC 104 keys)
2. depmod and update-initramfs

Unfortunately because of all this, I don't think my dmesg will be very
helpful. I tried to read old copies to find one in which I still had
the problem, but everything seems to be fine. I'll attach one anyway.

If there's a way of getting information from the installer without
keyboard, let me know and I'll boot from it.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

Line 623 shows the first time I booted the Feisty kernel, after

Unfortunately, I fail to see any problem with keyboard or USB

I hope you can spot something. Let me know if there's other information
