[Bug 111690] Kernel oops when inserting pcmcia CF reader

2007-05-02 Thread Andrey Zaitsev
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic

I have Acer Aspire 5101 AWLMi laptop with AMD Turion64 (single core)

reproducible in Ubumtu 6.10 and 7.04. When I insert PCMCIA compact flash

2007-05-02 Thread SqRt7744
Public bug reported:

The GPS LT-20 (USB-id 1163:0200 DeLorme Publishing, Inc.) sends standard
NMEA commands over the USB. After connecting the device, a node is
created as expected:

dmesg:

but then
cat /dev/ttyUSB0
just moves the cursor to the next line and waits until I press Ctrl-C without
producing any output.

In Edgy Eft, the same command produces output similar to:

$GPVTG,0.0,T,4.3,M,0.0,N,0.0,K*49
etc...

Because of this communication bug, neither gpsd nor gpsdrive can
communicate with the Earthmate.

[Bug 109643] Re: [nvidia-glx] System frequently locks up with white screen with black lines when using nvidia binary driver with CPU speed scaling/Cool 'n Quiet

2007-05-02 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
Connell:
You can check yourself. If you don't see any crashes with the nv driver when
powernowd is running then the odds are there is a problem with the nvidia
binary driver. I have seen a range of laptops/desktops with i915 cards running
GL programs which do not suffer this problem (and are definitely doing scaling)
but that's not to say that there aren't other graphics drivers which have not
been tested in a variable CPU frequency scaling environment and thus cause
lockups...

Re: [Bug 68351] Re: Please enable ofxdirectconnect backend.

2007-05-02 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Rolf Leggewie [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnucash/+bug/31789/comments/4 says
 differently.

That comment is flawed. Of gnucash links indirectly (via libaqbanking)
to OpenSSL without advertising it as required by the OpenSSL
license. Gnucash Upstream is unwilling to relicence (most probably
because they can't), so we have no choice other than hope that someone
joins aqbanking development to port it to GnuTLS.

[Bug 111576] Re: NO ACPI FAN CONTROL AMD ATHLON64

2007-05-02 Thread Cactii
I'm a sucker for punishment so I looked around for a document that gave
me every possible command line parameter that I could pass to the Kernel
(Why is it that the 2.6.20 kernel is still saying to pass pci parameter
over the command line when I read that those don't work any more with
Kernel 2+ anyways)

Anyway, I tried a whole bunch of commands... most of them to do with
ACPI since that is where my problem is. I passed acpi_fake_ecdt on boot
and I can confirm that there is an audible difference in my fan speed.
Without being able to physically verify it I have to go by the sound it
makes but I am VERY sure it is going faster now.

There still is no control over the fan speed thermal sensors but a
faster fan will keep my system a little bit cool, I hope.

I have another laptop with an AMD processor in it that has the same
problem, I will boot it with this parameter as well and see if I get a
faster rate.

Nothing seems broken either, sound, video, frequency stepping and WLan
all still seem to work fine.

I know you are all busy but has anyone looked at this bug report yet???

[Bug 23445] Re: iMac G5 will freeze after booting up

2007-05-02 Thread ScottMiller
Ubuntu does not include the broadcom driver for differing reasons. To get that
card work, just
sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter

The 2.6.21 kernel seems to have additional options for powermac thermal,
or perhaps an updated driver? I do not have one of these machines to
test. Ubuntu should have included these critical thermal modules in the
kernel to avoid this.

Are you able to load the windfarm modules manually? What happens when you type
sudo modprobe therm-pm72
sudo modprobe windfarm

[Bug 83231] Re: linux software RAID not working after herd 3 installation..

2007-05-02 Thread GSMD
My box did boot fine showing that mdadm message though. The trouble
began as I installed the server kernel and initrd images got
regenerated. The box became unbootable. The proposed fix worked out,
thanks for that, but I'm still getting an error message at system
shutdown (like Stopping MD0 [fail]) and have no clue what's the
reason for that. That's unlikely to be related to this issue, but don't
you get the same?

[Bug 49901] Re: Katapult slows down to a near crawl when amarok is open

2007-05-02 Thread David Taylor
I'd suggest that this feature could be useful and possibly speedy if it
was searching for Albums rather than just singles.

The number of characters before search has been moved back to 1
character in Feisty, so whom ever makes this call isn't interested that
by default Katapult is rendered useless by this catalogue which is a
pity as otherwise it is such a good tool.

A nice way to make it semi-fixed (apart from turn off the catalogue) is
to use Mysql (or Postgres - I get better responses from Mysql) and the
speed is enhanced quite a lot even with a small collection like mine of
300 albums/5500 tracks.

[Bug 39315] Keyboard random repeat and dropped key presses: possible solution

2007-05-02 Thread MartinRunge
I have had the same problem in to two different setups and here is what
solved the problem for me:

1) Ubuntu 6.10 in VM-Ware Player
2) Ubuntu 7.04 on AMD64 X2 on Mainboard Asus M2N-E

Same behaviour on both, so I guess the hardware details are not so
important. The Problem appeared from one day to the next without any
change in the system.

I tried Rebooting, on the AMD64 as that had helped in the VM-WarePlayer, but no
success. But rebooting keeps several components of the PC unter power. You can
see
several LEDs still bright while Computer is switched off. So I shut down the
computer and pulled the Plug for several seconds. All the LED were dark then
(of cause :-). Reconnect to power and switch on and... the problem was gone.

So maybe there is an issue in the keyboard driver not initializing
enough registers at startup? If they contain a wrong value for some
resaon, you cannot get it out be reloading the driver or rebooting the
computer.

Good luck
Martin

[Bug 43324] Re: There is no 64 bit package available.

2007-05-02 Thread Scott Ritchie
Having recently obtained access to a 64 bit virtual machine, I was able
to attempt making a proper 64 bit package today.

I combined elements of Chris Halse Rogers hack with an email I got from
Ken Geis. I'll be uploading the 64 bit packages for Feisty to the
winehq APT repository sometime tomorrow for proper testing. Hopefully
they'll soon be able to make their way into backports.

As for \sh's concerns about Wine being built as a 32 bit application,
don't fret: the upstream plan is for Wine to ALWAYS support 32 bit
applications. Once win64 is working properly, Wine will be built with
both 64 bit and 32 bit library support. For this reason there's no need
for a separate 32 bit Wine package, as such a package will ultimately
just be a subset of the 64 bit one (when it actually can be made to work
upstream).

Thank you everyone,
Scott Ritchie

Please indicate which extensions/plugins do you have enabled; and if this crash
is reproducible describe the steps that lead to it (it is very important for us
to have a test case for each crash).

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

2007-05-02 Thread Andreas Schultz
i've got the same problem. It seems that /usr/lib/kde4/bin/klauncher is linked
against at least one kde-3.5 library.
A ldd shows this:

$ ldd /usr/lib/kde4/bin/klauncher
libkdeinit_klauncher.so = /usr/lib64/libkdeinit_klauncher.so
(0x2afa89eba000)

And /usr/lib64/libkdeinit_klauncher.so comes from kdelibs4c2a, which is
linked against qt3...

[Bug 33778] Re: The eject button does not work on Dell Inspiron 510m

2007-05-02 Thread mmaurer
This seems to be fixed in Gnome but unfortunately not in KDE
(respectively kubuntu).

I don't know if it helps, but this is my xev output for this key:

KeyRelease event, serial 28, synthetic NO, window 0x3c1,
root 0x4d, subw 0x0, time 21003931, (725,532), root:(728,556),
state 0x0, keycode 204 (keysym 0x1008ff2c, XF86Eject), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

[Bug 85695] Re: hald-addon-storage locks up system

2007-05-02 Thread l7or
I've got exactly the same problem with a TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SN-S082D using Gentoo
(hal-version 0.5.7.1-r3, linux-2.6.20.4 and linux-2.6.21.1)...
Although there don't seem to be too many users with such a Samsung-drive, the
bug is really extremely annoying for those who are concerned and I think that
someone who knows the problem's exact cause should try to report it to the
responsible project which doesn't seem to be ubuntu as I have the same problem
using Gentoo.

Isn't this a duplicate bug of Bug #75295 (which also hasn't been solved yet)?
