[Bug 36801] Re: Rosegarden does not start successfully by default in Dapper.

2007-06-22 Thread Derick Eisenhardt
To Mr. McIntyre (and anyone else):

This bug relates to the PACKAGE for Rosegarden in Ubuntu, not
necessarily the app itself. You may not be used to it in other distros,
but in Ubuntu, things are supposed to automagically JustWork after they
are installed ;)

JACK and anything else Rosegarden may need should be automatically
installed and configured as a dependency when someone installs the
package for Rosegarden. Don't take it personal...

PS: I too find it odd how the Linux community in general seems to
pretend that MIDI isn't around anymore...

[Bug 59498] Re: .png and .wav not opening - no icon for .wav

2007-06-22 Thread Giovanni Rapagnani
Thanks to your help and some searching on google I solved the problem.
Here is the procedure :

gedit /home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/mime/packages/Override.xml

suppress the following line :
  mime-type type=application/x-extension-pngcommentpng
document/commentglob pattern=*.png//mime-type

save the modification and run the 2 following commands :

sudo update-mime-database /home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/mime
nautilus --quit

It solved the problem for me.

did you ever figure out what caused this? on my laptop, the same

[Bug 121684] Post Tribe 1 upgrade makes networking flaky

2007-06-22 Thread Jamu Kakar
Public bug reported:

I installed Tribe 1 on a rev 3 Macbook. I followed the instructions

I switched to the wired network and found that after a certain amount
of data is transferred (I would guess about 512MB) the network just
dies. The only thing I've been able to do to fix it so far is reboot.
I can reproduce it by copying a large amount of data. If I run 'ping
google.ca' at the same time as the transfer it eventually dies with:

ping:sendmsg: No buffer space available

fabbione has suggested trying and older kernel and seeing if the
problem continues. Will do and report back.

[Bug 121683] Font DPI in Gnome wrong in Gutsy on MacBook

2007-06-22 Thread Tim Hull
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Gutsy on my MacBook, the default font size/DPI for Gnome is
wrong.

In the case of running on the MacBook hardware natively, this means
extremely large fonts - with Gnome defaulting to 112 dpi.

In the case of running on VMware Fusion with the same resolution, this
means extremely small fonts - with Gnome defaulting to 75 dpi.

On Feisty, both configurations default to 96 dpi and have reasonably-sized
fonts. Changing to 96 dpi in Gnome (Font control panel) in Gutsy makes the
fonts better, though they are still a bit larger than they are in Feisty with
the same setting. This is wrong on two counts - 1) the fonts should be set
reasonably after install as in Feisty
2) The actual DPI of the screen is 113 dpi - at that setting the fonts would be
HUGE

Filed bug against GNOME as fonts outside of GNOME/GNOME apps are fine
and the issue hinges on GNOME's DPI setting...

[Bug 121540] Vietnam: Saigon is deprecated, should use capital Hanoi

2007-06-22 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello Arthur and tzdata team,

we just got this tzdata bug in Ubuntu:

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tzdata/+bug/121540

which points out that Saigon has been renamed to Ho Chi Minh a
long time ago. The comment in the asia file already mentions that:

  # Saigon's official name is Thanh-Pho Ho Chi Minh, but it's too long.
  # We'll stick with the traditional name for now.

A nice solution to avoid obsolete names, retain a short name, and even
get more consistent is to use Hanoi, which is the actual capital of
Vietnam (and is the very same TZ). Then Saigon could just be an
alias (i. e. transitional symlink) to Hanoi.

What do you think about that?

Thank you in advance,

Martin

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-06-22 Thread Izzy
Instead of fighting for who's fault it is: Is it somehow likely that this will
be fixed in the near future? I guess the standard user is not interested in
the fact whether the bug is because of ncurses, xterm or whatever. To me it is
completely irrelevant whether xterm follows the rules described by terminfo, or
terminfo describes the behavior of xterm - as long as the information matches
correctly (which is obviously not the case at the moment). And I think we all
agree that the current behavior is not what it should be. The version of mc is
still 4.6.1 as it already has been on Dapper, so changes here are unlikely
(and, as I pointed out in my last post, see #12 above) it works fine when
accessed remotely via ssh from a different system (in my case, RHEL4 or CentOS
4.5 to be more precise). And it is very unlikely that a bunch of apps broke the
same thing in the same manner (vim and irsii mentioned here explicitely). So it
must be some underlying thing.
From the sources I found on that issue at least to me it looks quite clear,
that only F1..F4 are affected (and in mc, for me these seem the only broken
keys as far as I can tell by now). Since xterm and gnome-terminal (and
possibly some other terms and apps as well) seem affected, it may be some
underlying library or the like. Is it possible to locate the change - and how
could we possibly help locating?

[Bug 121424] Re: Rhythmbox crashes upon launch

2007-06-22 Thread Daniel
i launched rhythmbox from gdb. it froze, and i clicked the Exit button.
a dialogue appeared asking whether or not i wanted to force quit. i
force-quit the application. however, the process did not end, so i was
unable to continue the backtrace. this screen shot

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m128/envyouraudience/rb_backtrace.png

show that 1) rhythmbox was not open, 2) the tray icon was gone, 3) the
process rhythmbox was running and uninterruptible, 4) the gdb prompt
assumed that the program did not crash. therefore, i believe that it is
impossible to get a backtrace for this problem. nevertheless, i attached
the output.

[Bug 107668] Re: Setting an invalid mount point can make a removeable media unaccessible

2007-06-22 Thread Martin Pitt
Nicolas,

thanks for your initial work. First, some comments to the patch so far:

 - gtk_editable_get_chars() (just like all glib/gtk functions) already
return a copy of the string, no need to copy it again. So you can
simplify the loop like Mikele said.

Just for some bikeshedding, I think that a for loop is a bit easier
to read:

   for (p = text; *p; ++p)
   if (*p=='/') *p='_';

But that's just a matter of style.

 - Right now it seems that the modified string is never actually written back
to the input line? This should happen, so that the user sees the correction.
 - The loop should set a flag if it replaced any character. If so, then there
should be a gtk_message_dialog which points out the error.
 - You need to g_free() the string you received from gtk_editable_get_chars()
after having finished working with it.

Happy hacking!

Re: [Bug 120445] Firestarter firewall continuously crashes no matter which desktop or screen it's on.

2007-06-22 Thread Bill Hand
I am working on obtaining more information but I wanted to pass this
discovery along: as long as you don't click on the 'Active connections'
drop down field, Firestarter will not crash. I keep an eye on who and
what I am connecting to and who to me, so I typically click on the drop
down and glance at it periodically. When I don't open it, it stays up.

that's when I noticed it. (Before the Nautilus updates, though). I am

[Bug 121555] Re: slovenian translations getting broken by the translation system

2007-06-22 Thread Carlos Perelló Marín
Indeed, the plural form problem is actually an error. I misunderstood
your problem.

We use a default plural formula for each language as a way to fix any
broken formula (we saw a lot of them), but seems like when we got
Slovenian one, we didn't use a sane default. Thus, the plural forms are
well imported, the problem is with the plural form formula we export in
the .po file.

Could you confirm whether all Slovenian .po files use the same plural
form formula? (I mean, outside Launchpad).

This problem is related with
https://bugs.launchpad.net/rosetta/+bug/70470

The other problem with non plural form translations still need to be
fixed manually by an Slovenian translator (or do the global revert I
offered)

Cheers.

2007-06-22 Thread Rimas Kudelis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 63090 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/63090

I too am suffering from this bug. When I try to eject my USB-to-IDE HDD, it
disappears from the desktop for a moment, and then comes back with an unable
to eject error message.
Furthermore, if I run sudo eject -s /dev/sdb from commandline, here's what I
get:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ sudo eject -s /dev/sdb
dm_task_set_name: Device /dev/mapper/sda2 not found
dm_task_set_name: Device /dev/mapper/sda5 not found

I don't get it - not only both /dev/mapper/sda2 and /dev/mapper/sda5
exist, they're on a totally different physical disk! Why is `eject`
trying to find them at all?

Could it be the case that this is happenning only to partitioned USB
media?

I get a very similar error after each power failure as well as after

because grub takes about a minute, or maybe even two to display its
menu, and then another minute to finally boot the kernel in such case.

[Bug 96676] Re: [feisty] function keys don't work in gnome-terminal

2007-06-22 Thread Micah Cowan
Wasn't fighting for whose fault it was; was fighting whether it was a
really bug, and whether infocmp's output really was meant to describe
modified function keys. Now that that's been established, I think the
change should be relatively straightforward; assuming xterm has changed
its behavior _intentionally_, the terminfo database needs to change.
Assuming gnome-terminal has changed compatibly, that should be all. If
gnome-terminal is currently behaving differently from xterm, then gnome-
terminal would need to stop claiming to be xterm ^_^

As I mentioned, gnome-terminal _has_ changed incompatibly wrt to xterm,
in its handling of modified cursor keys and the like. AFAICT, this was
an unintentional change, however, and so the fix needs to be made in
gnome-terminal. And that's a separate bug.

A brief discussion with upstream would be good, to verify that the
terminfo needs to change. Because, if the change was intentional, it
seems like they should have updated the terminfo in the X source as
well; but the link Alex gave shows a terminfo with still-broken control
sequences.

[Bug 121691] OpenVPN routes that are pushed are removed by network-manager

2007-06-22 Thread Christian Theune
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I'm using network manager with VPN support and OpenVPN.

My OpenVPN-Server pushes the routes to the clients which works well with
regular OpenVPN clients. With network manager I see those routes getting
pushed but then overwritten by network manager.

The main annoyance is that the redirected gateway gets overridden with a
default route that uses 0.0.0.0 as it's gateway. That's not gonna fly
and breaks VPN support very badly.

[Bug 111375] Re: No powernow support on Athlon 64 3800+

2007-06-22 Thread Izzy
Just to push it again: Same problem for me. Any chance to see a fix in
the near future? I just updated my mainboards BIOS (the update contained
a patch for this processors support), but still Ubuntu (Feisty)
recognizes only one core and powernow_k8 does not load (Processor cpuid
70ff1 not supported as quoted in post #1 of this thread). Not sure
whether the patch made it into upstream yet - but I also don't know if
there's any reason we have to wait for that provided the patch works as
expected (and doesn't break something else ;)

[Bug 79182] Re: ipset is not useful in ubuntu, because kernel and iptables do not support it.

2007-06-22 Thread yagood
I also wanted to use this package, but haven't even tried to install it
after reading your bug report. I suspected that Ubuntu might not contain
ipset patch...

This would be a great addition, although I'm not a kernel hacker and I'm
not sure what's the impact of this patch, IMO it has to be decided how
to proceed here.

My use case is that I set up Shorewall and want to use its built-in
support for ipset to see how it performs with large rulesets - supposed
to be very promising. But without manual kernel recompilation, it's not
something you can do on Ubuntu now.

[Bug 59839] Re: Crtl+insert does not work in many dialogs

2007-06-22 Thread Jarno Suni
No, strictly speaking Ctrl+Insert is copy (Ctrl-C equivalent),
Shift+Insert is paste (Ctrl-V equivalent) and Shift+Delete is cut
(Ctrl-X equivalent). They work most of the time, for example in Firefox
2. They work many times in the Windows world, too. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290938/en-us, for example. Ctrl+Insert
is used in MS Windows XP to copy error message;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889887. (BTW by middle clicking mouse in
X you can paste selected text even if it is not copyed by some extra
command.)

You can use Ctrl+Intsert in text input fields of Xarchiver, so I don't
see a reason why it shouldn't work in other situations, where you can
select text. Aren't there any common guidelines for linux software user
interface creators.?
