[Bug 113227] [PATCH] Re: Incomplete/broken mouse handling in screen

2007-06-25 Thread Micah Cowan
A debdiff to enable mouse detection for the screen terminal, within vim.
Also includes the fix for bug 86916.

The debdiff has been tested in Gutsy (under qemu); the code changes have
also been tested in Feisty as direct modifications to upstream source
(unpackaged).

[Bug 112937] Re: vmware server will not connect remotely

2007-06-25 Thread Wilbur Harvey
I am running Feisty32 on the vmware server machine (vmware-server
(1.0.3-1 ) in feisty-commercial module), and Feisty64 on the vmware
client.

I get this error when trying to connecto to

Unable to connect to the remote host: Login (username/password)
incorrect

The same username/password works when I connect locally on the machine.

I tried the symlink of pam_unix.so to pam_unix2.so, but it didn't help.

The exact same setup was working fine when I had the vmware, not from
the repository installed, and had xinetd installed.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

[Bug 121927] Re: After coming out of suspend via power button, mouse and keyboard don't work

2007-06-25 Thread Kent deVillafranca
Looks like it is a duplicate, same basic problem for the keyboard at
least. Also, today it happened when I woke the computer up by raising
the lid, and didn't happen when I woke it using the power button. So,
that's strange.

Maybe this is related: very rarely after coming out of standby, typing in my
password, and the desktop showing up, one of the notification pop-up things
(typically the You are now connected to the name wireless network message)
will appear and seem to get focus, with no way to get it back. When that
happens, the mouse still moves around, but clicking doesn't do anything, and
keyboard input doesn't really work either. The way I found to fix it is to go
to a workspace with an open window and alt-tab a couple times, after which
everything's normal again.
Could that maybe be related to this bug (and bug 107725) ?

[Bug 116885] Re: Can't sync Treo 650 with Jpilot / Ubuntu

2007-06-25 Thread Florin Andrei
I've found a solution:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-
users/2007-June/thread.html#117436

I did exactly as Cameron Hutchinson explained, and now it's working.

1. created /etc/udev/rules.d/10-local.rules with the following content:

BUS==usb, SYSFS{serial}==PalmSN12345678, KERNEL==ttyUSB[13579]*,
SYMLINK=treo

2. Did a modprobe visor

3. Pushed the sync button on Treo's USB cable

4. Clicked on the Backup button in JPilot

So it looks like it's a bug with USB. Also the visor kernel module is
not loading automatically.

[Bug 119412] Re: [needs-packaging] mac

2007-06-25 Thread Michael Sebastian

I got the debian source package on the rarewares site.
It compiled, installed fine, and works well on amd64 kubuntu Feisty.
I suggest anyone with ape files get the source from rarewares and convert their
apes to flac. Ape appears to be dead on Linux for now.

mac-port has severe license problems.
I suggest ubuntu (and even medibuntu) should not distribute.

Supermmx modified the SDK available on the monkey audio home page to create
mac-port.
The SDK has a funky license that does not appear to be GPL compatible.
Supermmx wanted to put his version on sourceforge so he told sourceforge it was
under the LGPL. But the lgpl and the funky license appear to incompatible.

Sourceforge has dropped the project. No indication why but I would guess
it's due to license problems.

Here are some discussions about the license problem:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21858st=0

The funky custom license is here:
http://www.monkeysaudio.com/license.html

I think gentoo and debian have already decided not to distribute.

It would be really nice if Matthew T. Ashland decided to release his SDK under
a widely accepted license. (Such as BSD?)
Matt if you read this please chose one from the top of
http://www.opensource.org/licenses/category . But it's your code and if you
want to invent your own funky license that we can't make sense out of then it's
up to you.

I don't think anybody can safely distribute this code until the SDK is
released under a less funky license. And mac-port might be dead no
matter what happens.

Regards,
Mike Sebastian

It's happening to me too with Kubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) 32-bit on an Intel Core 2

I've found running aptitude reinstall firefox fixes it most of the time, and

[Bug 110037] Re: amuleweb stops responding without feedback when certain pictures are accessed

2007-06-25 Thread Mickael H
(Sorry for my english)

I have the same bug.
When I try to access a PNG image, the webserver crashes.
It isn't only the stats graphs, but also the kad connection page (which
normally display a graph)

I've installed the package from the universe repository.
I think the problem is that the package is built without libpng. (It does not
appear in the dependencies ?!)

[Bug 122064] [Wishlist] Removing software+dependencies currently much more difficult than installing them

2007-06-25 Thread Conrad Knauer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synaptic

Consider the following example:

I want to install the package alien to convert a RPM to DEB. Synaptic
also installs: debhelper, dpkg-dev, gettext, html2text, intltool-debian
and po-debconf automatically (very nice! :)

Now that I'm done, if I want to remove the package alien and it only
removes alien. I have to manually hunt down the other packages and mark
them for removal.

What would be nice would be a way to either:

- automatically detect what dependencies are no longer needed by any other
installed packages and offer to uninstall them
or
- allow me to go into my history [1] and have the option, if possible, to press
an undo button, e.g. to reinstall those packages listed as removed and
uninstall the ones listed as having been installed.

[1] File - History; e.g. where it says:

Re: [Bug 121327] Re: pdflatex produces a symbol lookup failure since recent libpoppler upgrade

2007-06-25 Thread Norbert Preining

This issue might be caused by the fact that libpoppler 0.5.9 does not

Hmm, grepping through the source seem to still find UGooString, are you
sure???

Would COULD be the problem is a missing include of poppler/Form.h where
the class UGooString is defined.

But what I don't understand how the packages has then be built?

Can someone of the ubuntu guys try to compile texlive packages with
poppler 0.5.9 and send some error messages? If it is a missing
declaration try adding the above include file ...

Best wishes

[Bug 81722] Re: Laptop sometimes fails to resume from ACPI S3 suspend

2007-06-25 Thread Marius Gedminas
I've disabled SAVE_VBE_STATE, POST_VIDEO and USE_DPMS in /etc/default
/acpi-support a week ago. Since then I didn't experience any failures
to resume from S3 sleep, and also the suspend/resume process feels
faster.

By the way, when I was debugging the suspend, I saved a typescript of
sh -x /etc/acpi/sleep.sh. This bit looked very interesting:

+ . /etc/acpi/resume.d/15-video-post.sh
+ [ xtrue = xtrue ]
+ vbetool post
+ . /etc/acpi/resume.d/17-video-restore.sh
+ [ xtrue = xtrue ]
+ vbetool vbestate restore
Function not supported
+ [ 3 != 3 ]
+ vbetool vgamode set 3
Function not supported

Why does vbetool complain?

Re: [Bug 43961] Re: Power down after shutdown does not work...

2007-06-25 Thread WillyWongi
System: PackardBell V7908, Centrino Duo, Feisty Fawn;
symptom: never powered off.

Some time ago I went through a buggy installation of FUSE, that messed
up with my sudoers file, preventing many modules to load at startup:
Alsa Audio (hda-intel), Intel Wifi (ipw3945) and so. I noticed that my
laptop actually shut down properly more often (2 out of 3). When I
fixed my files, everything went back to the way it always been: never
powered off.

ps.: never means Drake, Eft and Fawn.

[Bug 121327] Re: pdflatex produces a symbol lookup failure since recent libpoppler upgrade

2007-06-25 Thread Áron Sisak
Norbert, thanks for answering. I tried to emphasize that
debian/patches/30_poppler_new is likely to suffer from this error,
since the original tgz does not use this class at all. Actually
pdftoepdf.cc and pdftosrc.cc are patched to use this class.

I tried to compile it and attached the log
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8177964/texlive-bin-pbuilder-fail.log
Now I check if poppler/Form.h is included or not.

[Bug 120285] Re: Superblock not read at boot

2007-06-25 Thread Bananabob
Hello, I'm Bananabob's Son.

Here are a few more pieces of information.

The raid is set up using partions 3 of both drives.
Swap is on partions 2 of both drives to load balance.
Root is on partion 1 of the first drive. Partition 1 of the second drive is for
a developmental root if the need arises.

On the raid (md0) there is a LVM Physical Volume (Volume0), in that is a
logical volume (lvol0).

On the logical volume is the /home partition.

I have changed the fstab for the /home partition to use UUID and will
get Dad to update you if the problem continues.

[Bug 45505] Re: Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic

2007-06-25 Thread Conrad Knauer
Unless I am mistaken, the first two points I made:

- when you right-click a package, all the options available if you were
to select Package from the menu should be available (e.g. Download
Changelog is not currently available)

- when you right-click a package and select Properties (or if you go
Settings - Preferences - General - Appearance and check show package
properties in the main window), it would be nice if one of the tabs was
Changelog and clicking it would automatically download the changelog
for the package.

are also covered by bug 18683, so I will remove them from this one :)

** Summary changed:

- Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic
+ Synaptic lacks good package cache management settings

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: synaptic
-
- I'm using Synaptic in Dapper and here are some features that I would
- like to see added:
-
- - when you right-click a package, all the options available if you were
- to select Package from the menu should be available (e.g. Download
- Changelog is not currently available)
-
- - when you right-click a package and select Properties (or if you go

- properties in the main window), it would be nice if one of the tabs was
- Changelog and clicking it would automatically download the changelog
- for the package.
-
- - under Settings - Preferences - Files (tab) there are options to
- delete cached packages, however the ones that would make the most sense
- are not offered, namely 'delete cached package files older than' with an
- option to set a number of days or 'limit the package cache to' with an
- option to set a number of MB.

[Bug 50535] Re: Hardlocks w/ latest FGLRX

2007-06-25 Thread ashrack
I haven't tried installing FGLRX drivers and probably won't either. Since the
open source R300 driver works great on my Radeon 9800PRO.
But after a visit to this site:
http://ati.cchtml.com/show_bug.cgi?id=239

The bug is apperantly still present. It's like they say on the above mentioned
thread, ATI/AMD have set very low priority for us linuxers.
I will definetely go after NVIDIA with my next PC.

As I don't know which exact debian/ubuntu version you are using, I am not
completely sure but I would say that it is a gfortran bug (see :
 http://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=28354 )
We fixed this problem in the debian package which should be available in
 ubuntu now too

[Bug 94310] Re: Input problems in Kate save file dialog

2007-06-25 Thread SimSQ
Steps to reproduce (and notes):

1. Open shell, and type:
$ export LANG=en_US.UTF-8
$ scim # turn it on, basically
$ [EMAIL PROTECTED] kate

2.
 a) Press Ctrl+S. Press 's' a few times. Results: No characters appear.
 b) Dismiss the save dialog with Alt+F4
 c) Repeat step (a) to observe some pattern (but there isn't -- see notes)
 d) Dismiss kate

3. On the shell, type:
$ XMODIFIERS= kate

4.
 a) Press Ctrl+S. Press 's' a few times. Results: ... appear in the save
dialog

Note:
1. Results may be sporadic. Try to press Ctrl+S immediately after kate starts
up. Avoid typing anything else in the kate text box.
2. If it happens the first time, it may not happen the second time. But it can
happen on the fourth try, 13th try, etc. It's random!
3. The entire SCIM toolbar (English/Keyboard, 智能拼音, etc.) must be hidden to
achieve this.

[Bug 121708] Re: Network-manager 0.6.5 replaces /etc/resolv.conf (should stay a symlink)

2007-06-25 Thread katakombi
Generally it seems like a bad idea to fiddle with /etc/resolv.conf.
I run pdnsd which I recommend every user for breaking-through surfing speed
especially if you connect on a WLAN router.
PLEASE leave that file alone, if networkmanager needs to setup a DNS (which
might be a good idea) let it depend on pdnsd and change the config file for
that package instead!!
