[Bug 131459] [Sync Request] Sync rxvt-unicode (8.3-1) from debian unstable (main)

2007-08-10 Thread Albin Tonnerre
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rxvt-unicode

Please sync rxvt-unicode 8.3-1 from debian unstable
The only ubuntu change was a new upstream version, and a higher version is now
in debian, so we can sync this package. It builds fine in a gutsy pbuilder.

Changelog:
 rxvt-unicode (8.3-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release (Closes: #433004)
 - Rolled with autoconf 2.61 (Closes: #422540)
   * Match https URLs in selection-popup (Closes: #428659)
   * Fix typos in urxvtperl(3) (Closes: #411074, #415848)
   * Use sensible-browser instead of x-www-browser directly (Closes: #415846)
   * Added urxvtcd as alternative (Closes: #381967)

I have found the source of the problem. It would be that in linux you
are allowed to end folder names with a space and other operating systems
does not support this.

[Bug 85488] Re: some usb_devices fault if usb_suspend enabled

2007-08-10 Thread Ronny D
Please specify what command i need to execute, exactly, to disable 'usb
suspend' bug feature in my Feisty Fawn 7.04 desktop (i am a non-geek),
so i can see whether my usb-printer works at all or not (although
perfectly detected) and so whether else it maybe is some fault in the
Samsung ML1610 series and i can use the warranty card, although i know
the particular printer must (theoretically?) work on Feisty; also i
then could see whether i can have positive scan results then too. I have
these tools brandnew for more than one week now... and have not been
able to see them work at all, i was busy finding out... what was wrong
(while being non-geek). See my posts above... (sorry for typos)

I am not a geek. What is this:

root 1935 0.0 0.0 0 0 ?S 00:35 0:00

Is that the bug?

(and possibly responsible for either my brandnew scanner nor my brandnew
printer functioning though detected perfectly?)

If i can have root access somehow in Feisty 7.04 desktop version, would
it be solved for me (so i can scan and print with my usb-attached
devices?

[Bug 95277] Re: load dvb-usb-dib0700 driver for asus my cinema U3000 mini

2007-08-10 Thread Chase
Hi,

I'm really lost but that's ok i'll get there.

I've installed v4l on my ubuntu 7.10.

I've put the dib0700-01.fw in the firmware folder.

I don't know how to run the patch nor do i know how to change the PID's
which i think might be because i don't actually have a file called
dib0700_devices.c to patch, could this be right?

If i su and then modprobe dvb-usb-dib0700 i get:
[ 2857.548000] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_dib0700

Anyone know what part i'm doing wrong or how to do the part i don't know
how to do?

If you help me you'll probably be helping a whole lot of other people
too as i can't find anything solid on this anywhere on google.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Chase.

[Bug 125673] Re: D-Link not recognized in Gutsy

2007-08-10 Thread Joachim Frieben
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 118539 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/118539

As I had pointed out in Bug #118539, this issue is essentially solved
and was due to ACX sources from early 2007 which do not take into
account the new mac80211 wireless stack of the 2.6.22 kernel whereas
snapshot acx-20070610 does. I recommend posting any further coment in
Bug #118539. Thanks!

Btw, the build procedure can be simplified even further: unpack the
source tar ball in your home directory. You cd into acx-20070610 and
type

   make -C /lib/modules/`uname -r`/build M=`pwd`

Then you grab acx.ko and proceed e.g. as described in hexion's HOWTO.

[Bug 131476] esd not found

2007-08-10 Thread Christophe Dumez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-desktop

I have just switched from kubuntu to ubuntu. I installed ubuntu-desktop package
and Gnome is running fine. However, when I launched some apps (I noticed
rhythmbox and gconf-editor), I saw this error message in the terminal:
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/esd: not found
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/esd: not found
/bin/sh: /usr/bin/esd: not found

I checked and I didn't have the esound package installed. I installed
it and now the message is gone. Is esound a dependency that should be
added to ubuntu-desktop package? It didn't seem to affect the programs
operation though.

It turns out that master bug #118539 is effectively resolved by using
the current snapshot

  http://www.hauke-m.de/fileadmin/acx/acx-20070610.tar.bz2

after copying the firmware file to /lib/firmware/`uname -r`. I expect
that the update of the Ubuntu kernel source will address the issue of
firmware location, too.

no visible errors anywhere else.

This problem existed in 2.6.20-15, as well. After all my bumbling to
get mythtv going I wasn't 100% sure. But this reappeared after the last
l-r-m upgrade.

I am not 100% sure of the distribution status of the firmware so I have
looked on the Haupauge site and checked against the version I have.

On http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/support/support_pvr150.html there is a
download button link which downloads
http://hauppauge.lightpath.net/software/pvr150/cd_pvr150_27.zip

The file DriverA2/HcwFalcn.rom should be the file debian/firmware/ivtv
/v4l-cx2341x-enc.fw in the l-r-m source package

Does it happen during an update/upgrade ? what version of mlt was previously

[Bug 98813] Re: [apport] gnome-terminal crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-08-10 Thread Michael Wayne Goodman
I have been seeing the same symptoms. I was at first unable to
reproduce it reliably, but I found that button-mashing (like repeating
the home keys: asdf;lkj) while in unicode-input mode (scim) would
crash it quickly. Actually, it doesn't crash, it just locks up. I have
to then kill it manually (which kills all other instances of gnome-
terminal at the same time).

I tried to follow the valgrind wiki in order to produce this log, but if
I did something wrong please let me know. I'm not too skilled at
reporting this kind of bug yet, but I'm willing to learn.

Attached is my valgrind log.

also, please reopen this bug, as I need to use unicode from the command
line for my school project. I regularly use grep, sed, awk, etc. with
unicode, and these lock-ups are a pain

[Bug 131461] please update to 1.4.5.1!

2007-08-10 Thread John Pye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: lyx

Currently, the version of LyX on Feisty can not read LyX files generated
on Fedora 7, nor on Ubuntu Gutsy.

This is because the current version 1.4.3 does not include the necessary
'lyx2lyx' filter that allows it to read files from version 1.5.
http://www.lyx.org/news.php#item4

I would urge that LyX be updated in Feisty (and Dapper) before Gutsy is
released, so that LyX files remain portable between the two releases.

[Bug 85488] Re: some usb_devices fault if usb_suspend enabled

2007-08-10 Thread t2000kw
You don't want to re-write the kernel, you want to recompile it, so if
you're searching for directions, keep that in mind or you won't find the
information you want.

The information you need, except for finding the USB option to disable
it, is here:

http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_ubuntu

I wasn't successful in getting the kernel to work after compiling it,
and the help I got in the forums was contradictory, but you can look
through the directions and see if it's something you want to try to
tackle (I gave up on the idea and decided to use the work-around and
wait for Gutsy). I did use Fishor's kernel but it didn't work for me and
I had to remove the GRUB menu listing for it. That doesn't mean it's
defective, it's just compiled for a computer different enough that it
won't work on mine (might be an AMD-Intel thing).

If you do recompile your kernel (or use someone else's kernel), you'll
want to lock your kernel down so it doesn't get updated in the normal
updating process.

Another option is to use a distribution that fixes problems instead of
requiring their users to wait. Some of the others were quick to address
this problem in the Linux kernel. There are distributions that are
Ubuntu based now, like Linux Mint (don't know if it has this problem,
though). http://linuxmint.com/

I had made a recommendation to my company that we investigate replacing
at least sme of our PC operating systems with Linux, but because of
watching this problem and seeing how the problem isn't addressed
immediately, I won't recommend Ubuntu if they decide to switch some of
the computers over to Linux. I don't think all 10,000+ PCs at PACCAR
(worldwide) would be able to use a different (non-Windows) OS, but many
of them could definitely be switched over.

2007-08-10 Thread Paul Dufresne
Have you rebooted computer since you upgraded?
I have had this kind of problem on LiveCD, where Konqueror would not access
Internet but Firefox will.
I have read that other have Konqueror work when Firefox don't.
Also, the Network Manager may still be trying to connect.
Sometime, quitting the Network Manager will make Konqueror to work again.

[Bug 85751] Re: Distorted MP3 sound

2007-08-10 Thread jeroenvrp
Dear developers,

Please listen:

I have updated Feisty to Gutsy yesterday and after removing all manual
Mplayer/Mencoder-packages (from the DeVeDe-website), I reinstalled the
Mplayer and Mencoder packages from the Gutsy-repos, but after trying
Mencoder again, I experienced to my surprise that the bug is still NOT
solved!!!

Are we going to ignore this problem again, so the users will have to
wait another 6 months for an official solution?

Please follow the advise from Alan (see above). BTW: my CPU is a simple
32 bits AMD Athlon XP 2400+ (cpu MHZ=2GB).

[Bug 129721] Re: [gutsy] ubuntu-xen-server still references xen 3.0

2007-08-10 Thread Todd Deshane
This error is also true for the rest of the xen meta packages that i
have tried... desktop on both x86 and amd64.

The error in english:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ubuntu-xen-desktop-amd64: Depends: libxen3.0 but it is not installable
Depends: python-xen3.0 but it is not installable
Depends: xen-docs-3.0 but it is not installable
Depends: xen-hypervisor-3.0-amd64 but it is not
installable
Depends: xen-ioemu-3.0 but it is not installable
Depends: xen-utils-3.0 but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

Is a workaround until it is fixed simply to install the packages
manually? or even is there relatively easy way to modify the meta
package until a fix is released?

I tried to search for this bug in launchpad. Do you have a link to the
initial bug report? I don't want to be creating duplicate bugs if I can
help it.

Thanks,

[Bug 131306] Re: ps -ef shows lists hald and dbus-daemon runs with numerical uid

2007-08-10 Thread Walter Tautz
I guess this is not a bug since ps is apparently designed not to display long
usernames unless
one adds the appropriate option? Maybe haldaemon and messagebus should be
shorted so
that ps -ef can display it? Just a thought and not a very significant one :-)

[Bug 131604] EntityParser does not accept whitespace at end of file

2007-08-10 Thread Maarten ter Huurne
Public bug reported:

The xml.parsers.xmlproc.xmlutils.EntityParser class has a method
skip_ws which skips whitespace. However, if it encounters end-of-file,
it will raise OutOfDataException instead of returning normally at the
end of the file. As a result, the catalog files from the w3c-dtd-xhtml
package, some of which have whitespace at the end, are not parseable.

Example program:

from xml.parsers.xmlproc import catalog
xhtmlCatalog = catalog.SAX_catalog(
'/usr/share/xml/xhtml/schema/dtd/1.0/catalog',
catalog.CatParserFactory()
)

Output:

$ python readcatalog.py
ERROR: Construct started, but never completed at
/usr/share/xml/xhtml/schema/dtd/1.0/catalog:19:28
TEXT: '
'

Note that you will only get this output after patching bug 131595,
otherwise the parsing will abort before the end of the file.

Suggested solution:

Disable the following lines in the skip_ws method:
if match.end() == self.datasize:
raise OutOfDataException()
See _xmlplus/parsers/xmlproc/xmlutils.py, line 451.

Version info: python-xml 0.8.4-6ubuntu4 on feisty.

[Bug 131584] Re: compiz.wrapper not pretty with bash

2007-08-10 Thread Cesare Tirabassi
I believe this is not a problem with compiz.wrapper, but of the user's
configuration.

The way echo is used in compiz.wrapper requires a POSIX compatible shell.
In Ubuntu and Debian /bin/sh can be a symbolic link to any POSIX compatible
shell (see the Debian Policy manual chapter 10.4).
Indeed, in ubuntu /bin/sh is symlinked to /bin/dash by default.

If the users symlink /bin/sh to a non-POSIX compliant shell (for
instance /bin/bash) obviously this would have some side effects.

For this reason I would mark this bug as invalid.
If you think this is not correct or want to object please feel free to do so.
