[Bug 136296] Semi-failed suspend generated error and a system tray icon called suspend, killed networking and eliminated hibernate option.

2007-08-31 Thread Bastanteroma
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Normally this computer suspends and resumes perfectly, but a bad suspend
under Gutsy generated a popup saying that the computer had failed to
suspend. I chose to not get future messages, since everything appeared
fine. Then I noticed an icon in the system tray named suspend. I right
clicked and tried to open the preferences but nothing loaded. Then I
noticed that the network wasn't reconnecting. The interface was missing
from both Network Manager and the Network configuration applet. Since
then I haven't had the option of hibernating offered in the shutdown
menu.

Re: [Bug 134752] Re: Shutting down server causes Nautilus to slow down on Remote Ubuntu clients (SAMBA CIFS)

2007-08-31 Thread mbrennwa
1. My hardware: a Dell laptop (Latitude D800). I don't think it's a
hardware issue since things work well outside of Nautilus (see point 3)
and also in Windows.
2. The network is the one I have in my office (i.e. the company
network). No idea about the details, but its certainly a lot bigger than
just a direct cable in between the client and the server...
3. I'm not surprised that Konqueror does not have the problem. The
problem seems to be limited to Nautilus because I can browse my files
perfectly well using the terminal while Nautilus is having his 'breaks'.

OK so I tried the new network card already. It was a 3com 905-tx. It made no

However recently I installed the Kubuntu KDE desktop on my system to see if
it would make any difference in a few areas. One are being this.
The difference it made was that Konqueror performs perfectly after shutting
down the system and Nautilus alone has this issue. Dang since I like nautilus
 better.

What interesting out my test is this.
I shut down the server and tested nautilus, as soon as the shares became
 unavailable nautilus had the problem.
I tried Konqueror and it was fast.
I then restarted the server, as soon as the login screen came for Ubuntu,
shares available, nautilus sprang to life again.
No unmounting, no ctrl, alt backspace to restart things. It is totally and
completely dependant on the shares being available or unavailable.
So for you if you have networking issues ie. your connection drops you would
 have the same problems.

PS on a curiosity note, are you crossover cable to connect both your
computers? straight computer to computer? If so ditch that setup, buy a
cheap hub/switch and watch your connection problems disappear. If your
not setup this way I have no idea why your connection keeps dropping.

[Bug 134988] Re: Gutsy Tribe 5 doesn't work on systems using HPT374 controllers because of 2.6.22 kernel bug #8791

2007-08-31 Thread Endler
I just noticed that that Gutsy isn't using the new libata pata_hpt37x
drivers for the 37x series of controllers. It's still using the legacy
IDE drivers at this point, which is probably a good thing for now.
There is still a driver bug, but it's less severe than I originally
thought, and it's not due to a bug in the pata_hpt37x driver, since it's
not even being used, but a different bug in the IDE driver. It hangs
on HPT374: too many IDE interfaces, no room in table when I boot off
the live CD, but I tried again and noticed that if I wait a really long
time, it gets it gets past the error and manages to boot. I was able to
install to HD, where is still gets the error on every boot, but doesn't
hang up for long and just continues on and seems to work. I'm going to
invalidate this bug report and re-report it more accurately.

Cullen:
That's alright. I suspect you might have been better off filing a support
request over on http://answers.launchpad.net/ as you had manually installed
drivers - you may have gotten a faster response. Additionally in the past week
the NVIDIA drivers were updated to the 100 series (see Bug #120943 ) which may
or may not make your life easier in the future.

If the issue has disappeared I would recommend going to the top of this

[Bug 135846] Re: Please merge clamav (0.91.2-1) from Debian unstable (main)

2007-08-31 Thread Cesare Tirabassi
Thanks for your work Leonel.

Few words of clarifications:

These patches are not dpatch patches, they are debdiff patches. They
apply to the source package (actually, to the source package tree) to
make a new package from an old existing one.

The two patches above are merge patches, ie. they will apply to the old
Ubuntu version (the first) or the new Debian version (the second) to make the
new Ubuntu version.
To make it clear what these patches do, lets have a look at the first patch.
You will see 3 changes:

1) changes to debian/control
2) changes to debian/clamav-base.postinst.in
3) changes to debian/changelog

This means that the new Ubuntu version will be the same as the old Ubuntu
version + these changes.
The reason for these changes is given in the changelog, but in general will be:

 * changes that will come from the new Debian package (remember that we base
our packages on the Debian ones, if they exist).
 * changes that fix bugs or other needs which are not covered by the old
Ubuntu version or the New Debian one.

Let us now see these one by one:

1) this change changes:

- the Build-Depends from libcurl-dev to libcurl4-gnutls-dev

libcurl-dev being a virtual package which is provided by either this or
libcurl4-openssl-dev. I explicitly specify now this as the ClamAV
package is licensed with the GPL.

- The Depends from libcurl3-dev to libcurl4-gnutls-dev in libclamav-dev

see above. Note that libcurl3-dev is a virtual package which is provided
by libcurl4-openssl-dev.

- The Depends from libcurl3 to libcurl3-gnutls in clamav-freshclam,
clamav-milter and clamav-daemon

see above.

Note that this change is not coming from the new Debian package; its a
new change.

2) This change changes the way DetectPUA is initialised. In the old
Ubuntu version was initialised to no. In the new Debian version is
initialised to false. I'm applying the change from Debian; both are
valid and parsed correctly, however we prefer to keep the Debian version
so that we minimise the number of changes w.r.t them.

3) The changelog is changed to reflect the above.
Note that the changelog will not list the changes in patch 1. It will list the
changes in patch 2, since this is the patch that applies to the Debian version.

I hope this clarify what these patches are about. Please feel free to
ask any questions you may still have.

Thanks again for your work.

Yes installing libnspr4-dev correct this problem but you have to remove

I've done a fresh install of tribe5 and basically have the same problems

Have upgraded from Feisty Fawn, which was upgraded from Dapper. Version
running now is Gutsy Tribe5 with subsequent updates

Now clicking on a http link in an email message doesn't bring up firefox
or opens a new tab in an already running firefox.

Thunderbird does not emit any error message when run from the
commandline and clilcking on a url.

This used to work before the upgrade.

[Bug 136302] Sylpheed POP3 Format String Vulnerability

2007-08-31 Thread Adna rim
Public bug reported:

I found this on secunia: http://secunia.com/advisories/26550/

affected Software: Sylpheed 2.x
Sylpheed-Claws (Claws Mail) 2.x
Sylpheed-Claws 1.x

Description:
Secunia Research has discovered a vulnerability in Sylpheed and Sylpheed-Claws
(Claws Mail), which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a
vulnerable system.

A format string error in the inc_put_error() function in src/inc.c
when displaying a POP3 server's error response can be exploited via
specially crafted POP3 server replies containing format specifiers.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code, but
requires that the user is tricked into connecting to a malicious POP3
server.

A fixed version has been released in the meanwhile:

Sylpheed 2.4.5 has been released.

This is a security fix release. All users are recommended to upgrade.

http://sylpheed.sraoss.jp/en/news.html
http://sylpheed.sraoss.jp/en/download.html

* The vulnerability that may be exploited by malicious POP3 server
  was fixed.
  http://secunia.com/advisories/26550/
* The potential crash bug in address completion was fixed.
* The signature separator '--' is not joined on line wrapping now.

Could you please upgrade the repos to this fix?

bye

[Bug 135554] Re: liferea does not show related links

2007-08-31 Thread Jérôme Guelfucci
Upstream answer :

Why is this a functional bug? Section 4.2.7.2 says:

The value of rel describes the meaning of the link, but does not impose
any behavioral requirements on Atom Processors.

But you impose a behavioral requirement. I think This is part of the Atom
standard is not a strong argument, because the standard in this case only
describes what is to be done if the link is actually processed.

I'd say this report should be a feature request to support rel=related
links. In principle there is nothing broken with not supporting optional
metadata. Please correct me if the RFC says otherwise.

I'll think over a good way adding support for it.

[Bug 98955] Re: logd not running

2007-08-31 Thread Mike H
Sorry, but man dmesg doesn't hack it :-)

The problem is that, as said elsewhere in the many discussions about
boot-time logging, these messages do not appear in any of the system log
files - /var/log/dmesg included. It's for that reason that I had to
resort to video to capture the messages and be able to read them and
resolve the underlying problem.

If only there were in dmesg, but it isn't that easy unfortunately.

[Bug 115768] Re: hald not parsing policies under /etc/hal/fdi/policy on kubuntu feisty

2007-08-31 Thread Adriano Provvisiero
I tried, but that doesn't solve the problem. The policy is still
ignored. I suppose you intended to fix the permission problem when
automounting with the default ntfs driver, but that didn't work either
on my laptotp.
