[Bug 131233] Re: WPA - network-manager keeps asking for password
I have the same problem when using gutsy in persistent mode from a usb stick. I know persistence has been broken, but I have been thinking this failure of gnome network manager to maintain the key might be a different issue because some of the persistent functionality in gutsy has actually worked for me. Note, I believe some people may have experienced this same network manager issue in the patched feisty iso that was prepared in which persistence worked. Don't know if that was the same problem as this one (particularly if normal (non live-cd) feisty installations didn't experience this problem. But, I wanted to mention that in case it is possible this issue was introduced by changes back in feisty (don't know if that might help in the trouble shooting). Alexander, it might be intersting to see if your problem persists with the feisty version of gnome network manager and, if it does, with the edgy version of network manager. You could revert to each of these by creating a preferences file in your /etc/apt directory and pinning gnome network manager at the feisty and edgy versions of the gnome network manager, respectively. (Don't know if they will be compatible, but you might try if you have time. I might try that as well). -- WPA - network-manager keeps asking for password https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131233 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 84591] Re: feisty 20070210/herd5 persistent mode doesn't work
Persistent mode actually does work for me in Tribe 5. There are two issues that I experience, though: gnome-network manager does not seem to maintain the WPA password that I enter for my access point; and I get a "umount" failure on shutdown. But, booting in persistent mode saves my installed programs; it saves my changes in firefox; and it saves my configurations in nautilus. So, it seems possible that persistence is actually fixed and there are some different issues causing these other problems. Don't know. Looks like someone is working on the umount failure - looks like they confirmed there is an issue (see bug report 125702). As far as the gnome-network manager not maintaining the password, I wonder if that is a persistence issue or a different issue given that other persistence functionality works (at least it did for me the most recent few times I tried it). While I don't understand all the details of the functionality of persistence, it seems it would be odd for persistence to work partially (e.g. maintain installed programs, but not network manager settings). As far as the gnome-network manager issue I experience, see bugs 131233 and 132473, for example. Bug 131233 sounds a lot like what I experience when using gutsy persistence. I also think some people reported this same network manager issue in the "patched" feisty iso that was prepared where persistence otherwise worked. Jerry, did you try installing a program to see if it is still installed upon reboot? Or configuring firefox or nautilus? Just curious if persistence might be working for some people and not others. I have actually been wondering if this bug has actually been fixed, but if you are still having issues . . . . [Bug 87652] Re: No sound in linux-image-2.6.20-8-powerpc G4
I'm running on a G4 Quicksilver (Tumbler audio), and this bug is still present in vanilla kernels (and Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and every other distro I've tried lately). I used git-bisect on a vanilla kernel and it spat out this commit: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commitdiff;h=68a64357d15ae4f596e92715719071952006e83c [POWERPC] Merge 32 and 64 bits asm-powerpc/io.h Benjamin Herrenschmidt [Sun, 12 Nov 2006 22:27:39 + (09:27 +1100)] powerpc: Merge 32 and 64 bits asm-powerpc/io.h The rework on io.h done for the new hookable accessors made it easier, so I just finished the work and merged 32 and 64 bits io.h for arch/powerpc. If I add some logging in sound/ppc/pmac.c, I see that snd_pmac_pcm_update (in sound/ppc/pmac.c) eventually gets a struct dbdma command with xfer_status == 0x8088, which as far as I can tell is nowhere near a valid value. Normally it should continue to get xfrer_status == RUN | ACTIVE, ie: 0x84. I unfortunately am quite new to the kernel, so I have no idea how to continue looking for a fix. Me too. I tried out the Tribe 4 and Tribe 5 releases, and the keyboard is non-responsive at the boot menu; as described above. The same CDs boot just fine on other machines. Hardware is a Dell XPS410N (Ubuntu pre-installed), with BIOS revision 2.4.2. Someday soon I'll work up the courage to flash the BIOS to the latest rev (2.5.1), which I expect will effect a cure. [Bug 136515] Tooltips do not disappear
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-main-menu Version: Ubuntu Gutsy Description: Tooltips displayed for program launchers in "favorite applications" do not automatically disappear. This bug is not fatal but tends to make gnome-main-menu annoying enough not to be worth using due to reproduction method #3. It severely interrupts normal workflow because the user must manually close a tooltip window every time an application is launched from the favorites list. How to reproduce: 3 different ways: 1. Open the "Computer" menu. Hover the mouse over a launcher until a tooltip appears. Click to launch the program. The menu will close, but the tooltip will remain until you click on it to get rid of it. 2. Open the "Computer" menu. Hover the mouse over a launcher until a tooltip appears. Press the "esc" key to close the menu. The tooltip will not disappear. 3. (The most annoying). Open the "Computer" menu and quickly click a launcher. Well after the menu has already disappeared, a tooltip for that launcher will *appear out of nowhere*. This means you must wait for and then close a tooltip every time an a program is launched. Comments: I would rate this bug as fairly severe due to the high annoyance factor in what is supposed to be a more user-friendly main menu. I do not believe it is a GTK+ bug because I only see this sort of behavior in gnome-main-menu. ** Affects: gnome-main-menu (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Tooltips do not disappear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/136515 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 135674] Re: Desktop Applications Need "Help" Profiled
Perhaps I should be asking for an abstraction that let's you run all web browsers (and similar for email clients, etc). As far as I can tell this would require something like: /usr/bin/firefox x /usr/bin/firefox-granparadiso /usr/bin/anotherwebbrowser /usr/bin/anotherwebbrowser2 /usr/bin/anotherwebbrowser3 /usr/bin/anotherwebbrowser4 /usr/bin/anotherwebbrowsern This means to test this profile I need to install and test with EVERY web browser Ubuntu has (and every email client). I suppose I could also just do /usr/bin x, but that would defeat the point wouldn't it? ** Changed in: apparmor (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid => New -- Desktop Applications Need "Help" Profiled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135674 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In a perfect world users could decide to have a network interface either nm managed or system tools managed. Combining both just gives you headaches. (and yes, I admit that in this particular case it might be really a bug in nm). For instance consider the case of two auto dhcp entries in interfaces? What do you expect as a user? you expect that both interfaces are started upped, but then network-manager can only manage one upped interface at the same time. So you have a problem :). Either down all interfaces on nm startup ... or implement some heuristic that will down all but one interface upon startup. The other option would be to just not manager configured interfaces at all ... and fix the kde/gnome tools to allow you to get to that state without hacking config files. - Alexander -- Network-Manager doesn't initially connect to wired network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133374 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 135650] Re: GIMP crashes when trying to resize an image.
Here’s a valgrind report. It took a full fifteen minutes just to get gimp’s main window opened in a valgrind session. ;-) This seems to be the relevant part: ==939== Invalid free() / delete / delete[] ==939==at 0x402137F: free (vg_replace_malloc.c:233) ==939==by 0x47948C0: g_free (in /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0.1400.0) ==939==by 0x602EBC5: option_menu_get_props (in /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/engines/libubuntulooks.so) The problem seems to be in the ubuntulooks theme engine. When i switch to another theme engine (even clearlooks, of which ubuntulooks is a fork IIRC), gimp doesn’t crash anymore. If i start gimp with another theme engine and choose “New image”, it works. If i then switch back to the Human theme while gimp is still running and choose “New image” again, it crashes. ** Attachment added: "Valgrind report" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/9083634/gimp.valgrind.939 -- GIMP crashes when trying to resize an image. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/135650 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 136504] Unable to connect to networks with hidden SSID (gutsy and iwlwifi)
Public bug reported: Ubuntu is unable to connect to any SSID that's hidden, no matter whether it's open, uses WPA, or any combination of factors relating to network configuration (tested on university's WPA enterprise, WPA2 personal on router, and open, unencrypted APs). This has been attempted in Gutsy with the latest updates and using an Intel 4965 AGN wifi card through both the standard network configuration tool as well as NetworkManager. As soon as SSID broadcasting is enabled, all works well. Otherwise, it starts to connect (green status lights in nm-applet) and indicates in the tooltip that it's connecting to the designated network, but upon completion, is actually connected to another AP (or it freezes on the connecting stage and eventually fails). This is all manual, naturally, as I don't expect nm-applet to automatically connect to hidden networks.
