[Bug 140854] Re: Boot with Software Raid most times causes mdadm to not complete (possible race)
I have exactly the same problem. My setup: Xubuntu Gutsy with latest Updates Athlon 64 1,6 MHz, 1GB RAM /dev/md0 is a Raid5 with 3x250GB disks (2x SATA and 1 PATA) I'm not too experienced with Linux, the only idea I came up with was disabling the Splashscreen with the status bar to see what's going on. It loads some hardware drivers I think and then it's the same as netslayer described, its printing md: array md0 already has disks! over and over again. I always have to try several times until the system boots but if it finally does everything is working fine, even the raid. -- Boot with Software Raid most times causes mdadm to not complete (possible race) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/140854 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 141425] mpd fails to start if music_directory is on NFS
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mpd In /etc/mpd.conf, music_directory is, by default, /var/lib/mpd/music I have /var/lib/mpd/music symlinked to a NFS folder. However, since mpd is before mountall.sh in the rc*.d directories (30 vs. 35), mpd fails to start because the NFS share is not mounted. [Bug 141416] Re: Gutsy LiveCD (Tribe 5) fails on Dell Inspiron 1501
I'm also using a Dell Inspiron 1501 (AMD Turion 64x2) and have gotten the same problem. X seems to load fine, a brown screen appears, and then it waits. Occasionally, it will drop out to a black screen and flash some errors before repeating the process again. I'll try to reproduce and write the errors down by hand, but they flash by quickly. There are three lines of SQUASHFS Errors and a mention of Exporter.pm did not return a true value (I wasn't able to get the path followed). I'll try to get the rest of the error output. [Bug 141424] Re: WPA Driver?
This bug has been made one of the priorities for the next Ubuntu release ( Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 ). Because it's a new functionnality, it will not be added natively to your Ubuntu version but you'll be easily able to upgrade Ubuntu 7.10 once it's released in final stable version ( October 18th ). From now on, you can look for tutorial in your language on Internet and I'm sure that you'll find solutions somewhere. I don't know wifi-radar but you can also try kwifimanager which is a pretty good one. You can find help in LocoTeams of your language here : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LoCoTeamList You can also install Xchat-gnome and join #ubuntu to speak with people that maybe will be want to give you some help. [Bug 141430] Other OSes added to GRUB menu even when GRUB installed to partition (not MBR)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubiquity In Ubuntu Feisty and Gutsy, if one chooses Advanced options at the end of the install and specifies a partition to install GRUB in (instead of the MBR), GRUB still adds choices for all of the other OSes on the system. This makes little sense, as the primary reason for installing GRUB to a partition (instead of the MBR) is because one is using another bootloader (such as rEFIt in the case of my MacBook). As I am prompted to pick between all of these options on every boot, this can be quite annoying when I just want to install/use pre-release versions of Ubuntu in a separate partition. Please change this for Gutsy such that other OSes do NOT get added to the boot menu when GRUB is installed to a partition. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Other OSes added to GRUB menu even when GRUB installed to partition (not MBR) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/141430 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ohhh, crap! My joy was spread a little bit too early. It seens that the slider for dimming the brightness on my Sony Vaio VGN-FS195VP only worked just after the update. After rebooting my machine I was - once again - not able to dim the brightness within gnome-power-manager 2.20.0. Very strange! Because of the eloquent dmesg output (see below) I blacklisted the sonypi module, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. Are the modules sonypi and sony-laptop (both are loaded during startup) disturbing each other or lies the problem deeper in the dbus and hal area? I have no idea! Well, let's wait and see what the next update brings ... [ 32.928000] sonypi: Sony Programmable I/O Controller Driver v1.26. [Bug 127101] Re: laptop hangs when switching video mode
Brian has hit the nail on the head with this one. As I am pressed for time I will only briefly outline some steps that eventually (after a few minutes) seem to result in this bug: Run the following two scripts in separate terminals as a regular user: while true; do totem /usr/share/example-content/Experience\ ubuntu.ogg; done while true; do sleep 10; killall totem; done; Run the following script in a root terminal (i.e. one you have sudo'd to root in): while true; do chvt 2; sleep 3; chvt 7; sleep 3; done Now a variety of things will happen: 1. You may get the infamous flashing grey block lockup 2. You may find you VT consoles go funny colours but you can still switch back to X and X appears to be fine. 3. You may find that totem suddenly refuses to play videos and looking in dmesg shows something similar to the following: no MTRR for d040,20 found mtrr: no more MTRRs available -- laptop hangs when switching video mode https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127101 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In the reports some fix is suggested (e.g. _enabling_ math preview, or cutting and pasting text if the problem is in second window opened), does some of these workarounds solve your problem? In a comment in the second report there is also a patch for testing, and a link to a binary release with the patch. http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4045 http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3920 http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4183 http://bugzilla.lyx.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4054 -- lyx 1.5 scrolling unacceptably slow https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/129813 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I think we may need to move this new issue (bug?) elsewhere as the original bug appears to be resolved. I plugged a Plextor firewire burner into my PPC Mac mini and the burn completed successfully. Is this a Matshita incompatibility problem? The Matshita is a common OEM drive in Macs. Thanks again!
