Setting the number of workspaces under compiz does not also set the keybindings
The output on the command line doesn't give any useful information. It
sound like it keeps dropping little bits of audio too (and maybe it is
trying to create a larger buffer to compensate?)

I have the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 6400 notebook (15,4, ATI
x1300), but it behaves differently depending on use of AC power or
battery:

I have an i915 video adapter. I can reproduce it with compiz both on
and off. I noticed that I cannot reproduce it on my other computer,
which has a Geforce 7600GT using the nVidia binary driver blob fwiw.

My testing...
On Gutsy using stock 8.37 fglrx w/ xserver-xgl and installing xine fresh
from the repo, everything works fine.
One thing I noticed is that with xineinfo it returns:

That seems to have been the main problem. The distribution upgrade got
all the way to the Installing the Upgrades step, but appears to have
stopped. I clicked on the Show Terminal button but nothing is in the
terminal window and the progress bar has been at 0% for about 30 minutes

Kubuntu 7.10 Upgrading to Kubuntu 7.10 and after gives error and says
Distribution is Up To Date

I can reproduce this at will, so let me know if anyone wants more info, network

Tried a fresh install on a VM with the same crash.

On Gutsy w/ stock fglrx 8.37 and xserver-xgl (running compiz-fusion) I
can confirm that if I run the visualization in fullscreen it eventually
crashes Rhythmbox, however, it does not crash X for me.
