[Bug 157336] After upgrade from feisty - gutsy, message filters don't work when run

2007-10-26 Thread Ralph Janke
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

I use message filters to move messages from my inbox into folders in
order to sort them. Since the upgrade to gutsy nothing happens when I
run those message filters. Prior to the upgrade everything worked fine.
I can edit and save the filters as usual.

Re: [Bug 156186] Re: Initramfs hook can't cope with missing rules.d files

2007-10-26 Thread Tore Anderson
* Scott James Remnant

These are essential rules for initramfs functionality; you would need
to modify the initramfs hooks and scripts as well if you remove these
 rules.

The generated initramfs works just fine with 65-persistent-disk.rules
stubbed out instead of deleted, but okay.

[Bug 156520] Re: Error installing Adobe CS3 in Windows XP sp2 via VirtualBox, Gutsy

2007-10-26 Thread Gomez
Moritz --
I thank you for your time and effort, and I feel very stupid now having
reported this as a bug, because I have been shown here:
http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=8640#8640

That the problem was, I did not have enough Video RAM set up on VirtualBox.
As Jasper points out (on the above link):
Note that Photoshop CS3 has minimum requirements for the amount of main RAM
and video RAM. It needs at least 512 MB main RAM and 64 MB video RAM.

I guess a mod can either delete this or leave it up for future
reference.

[Bug 156341] Re: ubuntu 7.10 and ATI = black screen?

2007-10-26 Thread Fabio Papa
It can't possibly be the X server, not right after the bootloader countdown!
I've seen the exact same behaviour with a notebook here. Try this: press escape
during countdown to access the grub boot menu. Keeping the default kernel
selected, press E to enter edit mode, jump on the line starting with kernel
and press E again to edit that line. Finally, from the end of the line, remove
quiet and splash parameters. Press ENTER and then B to boot. You will boot
in text mode and if your situation is like mine, all should start ok.

What I think happens here is that during installation, a wrong graphic
mode is selected for the boot process. The boot is also really really
slow, but is extremely fast when using this trick.

information that was requested from the debugging removable devices

uname: Linux maximo 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT

I will attach the outputs from gvm, udev, dmesg and lshal once the bug's
created. There are no sd* devices (or sg* devices, for that matter)

2007-10-26 Thread hseipp
Here is the upstream bug:

The fix is part of the 2.6.24-rc1:
commit 94d0f7eac77a84da2cee41b8038796891f75f09e
Author: Alan Cox [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: Wed Aug 22 23:09:16 2007 +0100

USB: kobil_sct: Rework driver

No hardware but this driver is currently totally broken so we can't make
it much worse. Remove all tbe broken invalid termios handling and replace
it with a proper set_termios method.

Signed-off-by: Alan Cox [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I extracted the patch and re-compiled the kobil_sct driver - everything is
working again with my Kobil Kaan Standard Plus.

[Bug 157343] Strigi adds homedir to preferences on reboot

2007-10-26 Thread René Vangsgaard
Public bug reported:

When I remove my homedir in Strigi preferences, it is automatically
added the next time i reboot. This is annoying, as I have huge
downloaded files (eg. Kubuntu iso's) below my homedir.

Side note: as I write this, the Strigi daemon will not stop when I try
from the GUI/status page.

[Bug 157344] hard to find out where printing to CUPS/PDF goes

2007-10-26 Thread Michael Hudson
Public bug reported:

I was printing a page from Firefox, selected the CUPS/PDF printer, hit
print... and then had to google around for 10 minutes to find that the
file had probably ended up in ~/PDF, which indeed it had.

I don't know how one would fix this. Ideal would be to get a file
chooser dialog that lets you specify the location of the PDF. Failing
that, have searching for printing pdf in the help centre give some
hints would be good.

program doesn't heat the cpu as the new kernel, and his temperature
never reaches the trigger value of 70C.

[Bug 130353] Re: kernel panic after making dialup connection to internet

2007-10-26 Thread Pastychomper
I've reproduced this bug. I reported it separately (bug #156164)
because for some reason I couldn't find your report after searching.

I had almost identical symptoms when connecting to a flat-rate ISP (also
with an 0808 number). The only difference is I couldn't get the output
in your attachment - my system just locks up without warning, with the
keyboard lights flashing, and doesn't log anything about it. I'm
working around it by using an old install of Mandriva 2006, which is not
affected. I'll try your workaround in Ubuntu and report how it goes for
me.

Which version(s) of Ubuntu are you using?

[Bug 157348] Switching between applications creates a strong jitter if 3D/visual effects are on

2007-10-26 Thread Kuropka
Public bug reported:

Switching between applications by using Alt+Tab creates a strong jitter
if 3D/visual effects of the desktop are active and the application is in
full-screen mode.

Example which works on my computer:

1. Ensure that visual effects (3D acceleration) is used on your desktop
and supported by your graphics card and the drivers.

2. Open any arbitrary PDF-Document with the Evince Document Viewer

3. Press F11 to get into the Full-Screen-Mode of Evince

4. Press Alt-Tab to switch the applications... switch via all
applications and come back to Evince. You should notice a wild jitter on
the screen when you wanna switch back to Evince.

[Bug 157355] nm-applet crashes with SIGSEGV

2007-10-26 Thread Yong Wang
Public bug reported:

Test environment: Ubuntu 7.10 + latest updates
Date of test: Oct 26 2007
Desktop environment: GNOME
ProblemType: Crash
Architecture: amd64
ExecutablePath: /usr/sbin/nm-applet
Package: network-manager-gnome 0.6.5-0ubuntu10
PackageArchitecture: amd64

I am using a Lenovo T61 laptop and nm-applet crashes pretty consistently
when I left-click the icon in system tray and then click 'Connect to
Other Wireless Network...'. I compiled a debug version of nm-applet and
backtrace showed that it crashed when calling a function in gtk+
library. Then I compiled a debug version of gtk+ libraries and get the
backtrace as attached.

Another thing to note is that I found there is a
'gtk+2.0-2.12.0/debian/patches' dir in the source package I got by 'apt-
get source'. I also compiled another version of gtk+ libraries without
applying those additional patches in the 'gtk+2.0-2.12.0/debian/patches'
dir and crashes of nm-applet never happen again.

Yet another thing to note is that it seems crashes do not happen either
when running nm-applet under the contorl of Valgrind. I tried at least
30+ times and did not see any crash.

[Bug 157352] bottom panel stuck at top after crash

2007-10-26 Thread Danny Piccirillo
Public bug reported:

My computer has crashed twice, leaving me with no choice but to force
shutdown on it and each time i start it up again my bottom panel is now
at the top and it is stuck there.

Dragging the panel does nothing.

Going into panel properties and selecting bottom positioning switched
back to top as soon as you hit enter or try to let it apply settings.

Using gconf-editor and changing the orientation value to bottom
actually does move the panel to the bottom but as soon as i move my
cursor over the panel it FLOATS up to the top again.

My panel settings are:
Animation speed: Medium
Auto hide: yes
auto_hide_size: 1
Enable animations: yes
Enable arrows: yes
Enable buttons: yes
Expand : no
hide_delay: 500
monitor: 0
Orientation: stuck at Top
Screen: 0
Size: 75
unhide_delay: 250
x: 0
x_centered: yes
x_right: 0
y: 0
y_bottom: -1
y_centered: no

I am not sure how to reproduce this as it only happened after my
computer hung and i forced a shutdown.

[Bug 157351] Network Manager reports no network connection even when a PPP connection is active

Binary package hint: network-manager

Disclaimed: I use my cell phone to connect to the Internet via PPP,
using the Modem Connection option within Manual Configuration.

When the connection to the Internet is established, either by opening

selecting Dial Up Connections-Connect to ppp0 via Modem the
connection is established and quit usable. I can see that my routing
table has been correctly updated, can browse web pages, use SSH, apt-

and applications that depend on Network Manager reporting the existence
of a connection refuse to function normally. Pidgin is one example: it

[Bug 84226] Re: Fast user switch applet causes high processor load

2007-10-26 Thread Marcel Schaal
We can confirm this bug having about 2500 users. Also we don't want to
remove ubuntu-desktop because other packages may get removed by apt-get
autoremove.

[Bug 150709] Re: [rv200] initial mode is 1280x768 instead of preferred 1280x1024

2007-10-26 Thread Tormod Volden
The problem is that the monitor is not reporting any preferred mode,
which makes it hard for the driver to just guess. If this is the
monitor's fault, nothing can be done. If it's the driver that doesn't
ask the correct way (ddc/edid problems) it might get fixed one day.

very annoying.

[Bug 156939] Re: package openoffice.org-core None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/openoffice.org-core.list] failed to install/upgrade:

2007-10-26 Thread Kayvan Sylvan
I worked around this by removing all the openoffice packages and then
installing them again from the official Gutsy repository.

[Bug 157357] .desktop files not displayed as icons - just as text files

2007-10-26 Thread KlausBuginski
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon AMD64. I do not know how it came but
since yesterday all starters at the desktop are not displayed as icons
but as .desktop text files which they in reality are. at the same time
some apps related to files e.g. OpenOffice with .ods files do not start
anymore when I click the file. I guess this is related to mime but I did
not find anything. Maybe its not a bug but misconfiguration but I do not
know where to search a solution.

[Bug 108527] Re: X freezes when compiz is enabled on ATI cards

2007-10-26 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Please everyone keep reports of fglrx usage out of this particular bug
report. Fglrx is a closed source driver that cannot be supported or
fixed by Ubuntu. Also, specifically keep NVIDIA cards to their own bug
report(s), and they are always currently using closed source driver for
3D. And if you're using Ubuntu 7.04, try Ubuntu 7.10. Thank you.

That said, compiz has worked fluently and without any problems here on
Radeon X800 with the (default) open source driver.

After filtering NVIDIA users and fglrx driver users out, which people
using Ubuntu 7.10 do have hanging and which Radeon cards do they have?
It seems Mobility Radeon X300 / X700 are one, but I thought X300 was
already blacklisted for gutsy because of some earlier report? And one
9600 AGP user. It also would seem like not all users of such cards
experience hangs, so the actual problem might be eg. in the motherboard
AGP/PCI-E support.

[Bug 135242] Re: Cannot install using adept_manager on gutsy

That package removed fine. Moreover, it seems that I have the j2sdk1.4
package installed now, so somewhere along the last two months it got
fixed.

[Bug 157248] Re: Open Office file icon is not as expected

2007-10-26 Thread Kayvan Sylvan
I figured out what I needed to make this work. Right-mouse-click on
desktop to Change Desktop background, then click on the Theme tab to
start. Click on Customize at that point and click on the Icons tab
of the Customize Theme window and choose an icon set. The software
behaves as expected.
