RE: [Bug 164802] Re: evince on fiesty ( prev edgy and dapper)- just doesnt work at all !!
Pedro I have been unsuccessful in obtaining a back trace. Ive tried by running evince thru gdm, and attaching gdm to a running session. with evince open, I open a pdf, and hit f5 (or select presentation view) and the session crashes. However the gdb session never returns to the gdb prompt. if i force quit the evince task, i get back tothe gdb prompt, but the program has closed and gdb cannot report anything. Ive attached a screen shot, and the dbg output i get up to the crash. Note the screen shot has an open window overlayed on top of the dead session, and also has the top and bottom panels, which are not visible when the crashed evince session is given the focus. I don't know if this will help since it sounds a bit different: We had some Ubuntu booting problems before (run manual build xen on centos). [Bug 172263] You're Gone font is buggy
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ttf-larabie-deco In OpenOffice.org (2.2, Ubuntu Feisty) I started to use the You're Gone font which is very nice. However, if I use special characters of it, after saving and reloading the document (using a new instance of OpenOffice), some characters are displayed incorrectly and bad kerning may occur. [Bug 164971] Re: Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files
It seems to be a pure Nautilus problem indeed. It is not Gnome but Nautilus that freezes. Restarting Nautilus is sufficient to get it working for a while, there is no need to restart the X-Server as I did first. There is no ordinary program crash; Nautilus freezes rather slowly: To begin, the specific icons for music files are replaced by neutral symbols, then Nautilus refuses to open files and the above mentioned error-message appears. At last even open windows can't be closed any more. The Gnome-panels continue to work. So Nautilus can be shut down and restartet by system/administration/system-monitor. It seems to me that Nautilus behaves as if there really were too many open files, even if there are not. I suppose that it forgets to close files correctly after handling them. I think the problem is new in Gutsy (Nautilus 2.20.0). [Bug 75295] Re: Feisty freeze, kernel (?) tries to access DVD drive
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe I am seeing the same bug, with a different drive though. The bug description in my case is quite simple: my dmesg shows an endless list of [19145.388805] hda: drive not ready for command [19145.388837] hda: status error: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest Error } [19145.388842] hda: status error: error=0x40 { LastFailedSense=0x04 } [19145.388845] ide: failed opcode was: unknown The list usually starts after a message pops up on my screen saying a new medium was detected (though I was not using the DVD drive in any manner). This seems completely unpredictable. hdparm -w successfully stops the error message list. Unmounting the ghost medium does nothing. The system is still normally responsive when the bug occurs. Ok, reading through other bugs (64614) I noticed that some people have problems with assistive technologies and thunderbird. As soon as I did that (no restart of gdm or anything) thunderbird worked again fine without me needing to run it as root. To test I shut thunderbird, and went back to the same menu and re- enabled it, trying thunderbird again and it wouldn't start again. Going back and disabling assistive technologies and instantly it is able to start up without problems. Hurrah!
