That's not really an Ubuntu-specific bug. You could mark it as a bug
against a specific theme (if it's an included theme) or report it to the
theme's author.

2007-11-27 Thread rannsaicher
Pedro
I have been unsuccessful in obtaining a back trace. Ive tried by running
evince thru gdm, and attaching gdm to a running session.
with evince open, I open a pdf, and hit f5 (or select presentation view) and
the session crashes.
However the gdb session never returns to the gdb prompt.
if i force quit the evince task, i get back tothe gdb prompt, but the program
has closed and gdb cannot report anything.
Ive attached a screen shot, and the dbg output i get up to the crash.
Note the screen shot has an open window overlayed on top of the dead session,
and also has the top and bottom panels, which are not visible when the crashed
evince session is given the focus.

[Bug 81080] Re: rsync timestamp bug on encfs/fuse

Sorry, this took a lot more than the 24 hours I promised.

So after doing the following, I am still seeing the error:
1. created encfs volume from scratch using default options
2. created one backup using 6.10 without issue
3. ran the backup in gutsy - seeing the error

A couple of lines from my latest attempt:
rsync: failed to set times on
/media/usbbackup/backup/tonkatsu/inc-0711270159/etc/alternatives/cc: No such
file or directory (2)

So I am off to run the backup using 6.10.

[Bug 172261] javascript setInterval causes glitches

2007-11-27 Thread Hairboy
Public bug reported:

On visiting sites like www.hattrick.org and www.trackking.org, the
javascript setInterval that powers the continually-updated clocks on the
pages causes the entire system to 'momentarily freeze' each second as
the clock display updates.

In Track King, this glitch just causes a shudder in any animations on
the screen at the time - Flash, advanced window effects on my desktop,
even glxgears.

In Hattrick, excessively 'wobbling' my browser window while the clock is
on screen will actually cause Firefox to hang.

Today's my first day with Ubuntu. 7.10. A few problems enabling a Radeon
9600 on my Athlon 3000+ build of Ubuntu, but got all the other lovely
effects happening nowhowever as these Web Games are a large part of
my daily routine, this bug is quite meaningful to me :-(

[Bug 144631] Re: xen guest hangs after mounting filesystem

2007-11-27 Thread Herman Bos
I don't know if this will help since it sounds a bit different:

We had some Ubuntu booting problems before (run manual build xen on
centos). We fixed this by building a new initrd in the domU and copy
that initrd to dom0 and use it in the config file instead of the
supplied one.

you can build a new initrd with the following command:

example: `mkinitramfs -o /boot/initrd-2.6.18-xen-feisty.img 2.6.18-xen`

you don't have to start the domu, you can also build it with a chroot to the
filesystem.

maybe its worth a try.

[Bug 126797] Re: gdm spawns a new X server when told to restart the system

2007-11-27 Thread Bryce Harrington
I've packaged the aforementioned patch here:

 http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Testing/gdm/

Basically it just adds a couple sleep()'s, which does seem a tad hacky,
but seems to be a fairly safe way to workaround the problem. The
potential downside could be if it lengthens the restart process
noticeably.

Would someone mind testing this and confirming it addresses the problem?

[Bug 172263] You're Gone font is buggy

2007-11-27 Thread Kovács Zoltán
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ttf-larabie-deco

In OpenOffice.org (2.2, Ubuntu Feisty) I started to use the You're Gone
font which is very nice. However, if I use special characters of it,
after saving and reloading the document (using a new instance of
OpenOffice), some characters are displayed incorrectly and bad kerning
may occur.

I usually use latin-2 fonts for Hungarian letters. But I also considered
that some standard latin characters may go wrong (including F, E or
such). I'm not sure this is a font issue, however this is the first font
for me which I feel something going strangely bad.

[Bug 164474] Re: g-v-m fails to mount inserted cdroms

I just noticed this : if the cdrom if inserted before I log into Gnome

Then I can eject it, but if I insert it again (while logged in Gnome),
it won't be mounted. If I then log out from gnome, and log in again, CD
will be mounted.

Maybe it has something to do with wrong permissions ???

as of the language, the video is quite useless by the means of presentation (if

[Bug 172264] Ubuntu 7.10 provides Ghostscript 8.61 pre-release version

2007-11-27 Thread Neha Seth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ghostscript

There is a problem with printing secured PDFs from Abode Reader 8.1.1 to
non PostScript printers. This problem is observed with Ubuntu Gutsy
Gibbon (7.10), more specifically where the version of GhostScript on the
machine is 8.61 pre-release. The CUPS error logs show GPL Ghostscript
SVN PRE-RELEASE 8.61: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1. This issue is
mentioned in bug# 145772
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acroread/+bug/145772) as
well.

Since the issue is not observed with the official stable release of

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: feynmf

Quoting:
Kevin B. McCarty discovered that the feynmf.pl script creates a temporary

A local attacker could create symbolic links in the directory where the

[Bug 164971] Re: Gnome freezes after moving or deleting many files

2007-11-27 Thread Max-Ulrich Farber
It seems to be a pure Nautilus problem indeed. It is not Gnome but
Nautilus that freezes. Restarting Nautilus is sufficient to get it
working for a while, there is no need to restart the X-Server as I did
first.

There is no ordinary program crash; Nautilus freezes rather slowly: To
begin, the specific icons for music files are replaced by neutral
symbols, then Nautilus refuses to open files and the above mentioned
error-message appears. At last even open windows can't be closed any
more. The Gnome-panels continue to work. So Nautilus can be shut down
and restartet by system/administration/system-monitor.

It seems to me that Nautilus behaves as if there really were too many
open files, even if there are not. I suppose that it forgets to close
files correctly after handling them.

I think the problem is new in Gutsy (Nautilus 2.20.0). I had never
observed it before.

[Bug 157099] Re: Automatic installation of DVD CSS support

2007-11-27 Thread Stephan Hermann
Guys,

every year and now the same discussion.

The problem is not the software itself, but what it is doing.
css2 decryption is illegal in many countries of the world, and therefore it's
hard to distribute this piece of software.

It's not because of the license

Try to use non css2 secured DVDs.

As long there is no legal safteyness for distributors like Canonica,
RedHat, Novell/SuSE and others to distribute this and as long there is
no legal safteyness for Users, this is a no go.

[Bug 158288] Re: Node hangs at clvm when joining cluster

2007-11-27 Thread Fabio Massimo Di Nitto
Ante: can you please test this other patch instead? it is on top of
2.6.22 gutsy kernel sources.

If this one work, i will take care to propagate the fixes down to
dapper.

remember you will need to reboot the entire cluster and hint: add that famous
printk to make sure
you are running a patched kernel.

[Bug 75295] Re: Feisty freeze, kernel (?) tries to access DVD drive

2007-11-27 Thread Brezhonneg
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I believe I am seeing the same bug, with a
different drive though.
The bug description in my case is quite simple: my dmesg shows an endless list
of

[19145.388805] hda: drive not ready for command
[19145.388837] hda: status error: status=0x59 { DriveReady SeekComplete
DataRequest Error }
[19145.388842] hda: status error: error=0x40 { LastFailedSense=0x04 }
[19145.388845] ide: failed opcode was: unknown

The list usually starts after a message pops up on my screen saying a
new medium was detected (though I was not using the DVD drive in any
manner). This seems completely unpredictable. hdparm -w successfully
stops the error message list. Unmounting the ghost medium does nothing.
The system is still normally responsive when the bug occurs.

I'm using Kubuntu gutsy x86_64.
uname -r

system-config-printer itself does not scan the network when 'New

What does 'time /usr/sbin/lpinfo -v' say?

[Bug 57233] Re: Minor revision 2.6.15-26 doesn't detect attached SCSI disks to LSI 1030ST

2007-11-27 Thread Martin Pitt
Vide, that's more like a workaround. Thank you for testing!

So it seems that some modules are not shuffled between linux-image and
linux-backports-modules properly. Upgrades must not break when l-b-m is
not installed (which is the entire point of having a separate l-b-m).

[Bug 172269] Copying Open Office chart from Calc to Writer using clipboard changes it. (Curves - Chart got bad meaning !!!, Legend)

2007-11-27 Thread Pernik
Public bug reported:

I made this table:
vložený útlum [dB] 0 5 10 15 20 22 24
26 28 30 32 34 36 38
úroveň [%] 32 23 19 14 11 10 8 7
7 7 7 7 7 0
kvalita [%] 100 100 100 100 100 95 85 79
71 61 48 31 15 0
I choose XY chart, data values in rows. Then I simply copied finished chart to
clipboard a pasted it to a document in the Writer. Legend and plotted curves
changed.

OpenOffice is 2.3.0, Ubuntu is 7.10

[Bug 156421] Re: Compiz-Fusion Show-Desktop screen edge binding not working

I can confirm both the bug and Ari's workaround. However, the workaround
is not persistent: after logging out or rebooting, the manually set
screen corner no longer works. The show_desktop_edge value in
/apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/ is still there though, but
isn't used until you set it again in gconf-editor.

[Bug 75286] Re: Crash on startup -- possible cause / workaround

2007-11-27 Thread James-C

Ok, reading through other bugs (64614) I noticed that some people have problems
with assistive technologies and thunderbird.

I went to System - Preferences - Accessibility - Assistive Technology
Preferences and unchecked 'enable assistive technologies'.

As soon as I did that (no restart of gdm or anything) thunderbird worked
again fine without me needing to run it as root.

To test I shut thunderbird, and went back to the same menu and re-
enabled it, trying thunderbird again and it wouldn't start again. Going
back and disabling assistive technologies and instantly it is able to
start up without problems.

Hurrah! Ok, a problem for those who need the assistive technologies,
but I don't even remember when I turned them on.

Best,
-James

[Bug 172270] Include TIresias fonts family in next release

2007-11-27 Thread Luca Ferretti
Public bug reported:

quote who=Peter Korn where=gnome-devel-list
I just received word (see attached) that the Tiresias family of fonts,
designed by the Royal National Institute for the Blind for clarity and
ease of recognition by folks with vision impairments are now available
under GPL v3. The family includes fonts recommended and tested for use
in signage, print, television, and computer use (the latter is PCFont
- see http://www.tiresias.org/fonts/pcfont/about_pc.htm for details).

I would like to recommend we consider redistributing these fonts with
GNOME (or at least link to them so that UNIX distros that include GNOME
might become aware of and potentially include this font).
/quote

It could be a really good idea if Ubuntu could provide packages for
those fonts.

Download page: http://www.tiresias.org/fonts/fonts_download.htm

[Bug 172272] update-manager doesn't remember package(s) unmarked for upgrade

2007-11-27 Thread Jonas Lindeløv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

I need to run a certain version of wine, to get Microsoft Office 2003 to
work under wine. However, update-manager keeps informing me about the
newer version of wine available and mark it for update. So every time I
update, I have to deselect the wine package, risking to forget it
someday. This problem could apply to other users and packages as well.

The solution could be to remember if a user unmarks a package for
upgrade. You may want to disable this option for security updates?

This is my first post here. So please tell me if it does not qualify as
a bug!

[Bug 172276] Update manager has USBMGR stuck permanently

2007-11-27 Thread Yeuclid
Public bug reported:

For some time now I have had a stuck package in Update Manager. It
started in 7.04, thought 7.10 might fix it, but it just won't go away.

Most of the time it is greyed out on the list, but even when I tick it
is held back

The package is USBMGR (update from version 1.0.0-4 to 1.0.0-6)

How do I clear this up?

[Bug 155949] Re: vpnc password information is asked each time instead of using values stored in gnome keyring

2007-11-27 Thread Jonas Lindeløv
This bug is the same as #149205 and #111507. In #149205 Martin Emrich
has a temporary solution.

I have the same problem. I can add, that if I choose the Save in
keyring option upon connecting to vpn, next time I try it will first
prompt me two times for my keyring password, before requesting vpn-
connect data. If I don't check Save in keyring, it requests vpn-
connect immidiatly.
