[Bug 180026] Long description tooltips cut off by edge of screen

2008-01-03 Thread Oliver Story
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

tool-tip--style long descriptions of links are cut off by the edge of
the screen if the cursor is near the right-hand or bottom edge of the
screen. This makes them impossible to read.

Steps to reproduce: Hover your mouse over the Answers tab at the top
right of the Launchpad page. A small yellow box should appear to the
below right of the cursor starting with the words Questions for. The
end of the sentence will be cut off by the edge of the window.

Preferred behaviour: rendering of long descriptions should take into
account the position of the cursor in relation to the window (e.g. near
the right of the window they could be rendered to the left of the
cursor), so that the entire description is readable on screen.

[Bug 180025] Please sync freeciv 2.1.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2008-01-03 Thread Emmet Hikory
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: freeciv

Please sync freeciv 2.1.2-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Rationale:
Vastly improved fonts handling (using system fonts)
Lots of translation updates
Other upstream fixes include crashers, memory leaks, and network problems
Updated revision builds installs correctly in hardy.

Additional Debian changelog:

freeciv (2.1.2-1) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Jordi Mallach ]
  * New upstream release.
  * Make the SDL client depend on ttf-dejavu-core, ttf-sazanami-gothic,
ttf-unfonts and ttf-arphic-uming, and remove the font files from the
-data package, which had grown in size way too much in 2.1.x. For now,
Recommends or Suggests can't be used as the client won't start at all
if the fonts listed in the themespec are missing.
  * New patch patches/themes_sdl_use_system_fonts.diff, to make the themespec
reference the system-wide Debian fonts for the SDL client.
  * Delete patch data_Makefile_use_sysconfdir.diff, as it has been fixed
differently in ggz.m4.

  [ Clint Adams ]
  * Bump to Standards-Version 3.7.3.
  * Pass --with-ggzd-confdir=/etc/ggzd to configure.
  * New patch to not require ggzd at build-time.

[Bug 136387] Re: gutsy crash on standy or hibernate

2008-01-03 Thread moses
I can confirm on HP Pavilion dv2308tx, upgrading to Hardy's kernel
2.6.24-2 fixes problem with suspend, but hibernate still doesn't work -
though it doesn't lock up the system, just blank screen, then after
awhile, the screen shows the unlock screen.

[Bug 146859] Re: No dri for virtual screen greater than 2048x2048

So, the problem is the X architecture combined with that hardware
limitation, since I'm able to have Quartz Extreme working on OSX in this
machine, working with two monitors at the same time exceeding the 2048
resolution limit? Sadly to hear that this is not going to be fixed.

  Binary package hint: xorg

New laptop (Gateway M6816) with Intel Core2Duo, Intel 965 chipset (x3100
graphics, Sigmatel/HDA sound, intel w3945 wifi) My native screen
resolution is 1280x800. I'm experiencing this problem with Kubuntu 7.10
installed and Ubuntu 8.04a2 livecd - by default, the background will be
at native resolution but the window mngr (kde or gnome) will be @
1024x768. It appears that xorg is configuring this for dual screen
output and sending the window manager output to screen TV which is
- overlayed on top of the lcd screen. I had to google, download the intel
- drivers from intel, and tweak my xorg.conf file to add a tv section and
- disable output to it but this introduced issues with dvd playback. I
- also experienced issues with sound playback and had to download the
- latest ALSA drivers and compile to get my sound in built -in microphone
- to work. I purchased this laptop because of Intel releasing their
- drivers to the Open Source community but my experiences with closed
- drivers from nVidia and Via audio on other computers I own has been a
- far better experience. What I would like to see is Intel port their
- Windows graphics configuration utility to X.org(change resolutions,
- adjust shared memory, turn on/off external output). I'll keep my fingers
- crossed but I hope this issue will be fixed for Hardy Heron's final
- release. Anyhow, here's the X.org configuration that was automatically
- set up during the live-cd run of Hardy Heron Alpha 2:

[Bug 180031] hibernate/resume not working on Toshiba L20-101

2008-01-03 Thread Manuel Teira
Public bug reported:

. Suspend cycle doesn't work properly in my Toshiba L20-101:
   - Suspend stage seems to work properly. Depressing the power button pops up
the menu with the different options, I choose suspend, and after a short while,
two of the keyboard lights flashed and the system goes down, with the power
light flashing slowly. The system seems to be suspended.
   - When I try to restart it, just pressing any key, some disk activity seems
to take place a short while, but nothing more happens. After a minute or so, I
press again the power button and the system powers down immediately.
   - Randomly the system is able to wake up from suspend (perhaps 1 in 20
attempts), without touching anything in the configuration, and with the same
test schema: cold reboot, logging in to gnome, press power button, suspend.

- Hibernate doesn't work at all.
  - Pressing the power button and choosing the hibernate option produces two
different effects:
1.-Some HD activity, the screensaver appears, and after some seconds, the
screen gets locked, without hibernating.
2.-In very rare occasions, the system seems to hibernate correctly, a lot of
disk activity finishing with the system powering off. Unfortunately , it locks
trying to resume, with what seems to be some graphic problem, with the x
subsystem restarting.

- Also, I tried with the package uswsusp, without luck. s2disk and s2both
produces the same effect: the system switching to a text vt, with no more than
a blinking cursor forever. The only log in the kern.log after restarting is:

Jan 3 09:25:56 localhost kernel: [ 965.148000] swsusp: Basic memory bitmaps cr
eated

[Bug 156113] Re: [Gutsy]Suspend-to-disk (hibernate) and suspend-to-ram do not work anymore

2008-01-03 Thread sanktnelson
I had the same problem (thinkpad R40, radeon mob. 7500, gutsy with all updates,
radeon driver)
I am not using the fglrx driver which was implied as the culprit in some other
very similar bug reports. I used the old Kernel from feisty for a while and
that worked just fine for suspend, except that it broke a few other things
(most notably atumounting usb-storage).

After reading this post I installed the hardy kernel and everything now
works as expexted.

[Bug 159521] Re: Port slow to respond on SiI3512 with sata_sil

2008-01-03 Thread SixedUp
Sorry for delay in responding. The live CD has no support for RAID, so
in the end I had to completely reinstall with the new Hardy Alpha2 code,
which took a lot more time. Unfortunately there was no improvement at
all in the symptoms - all the same problems previously described
(timeout, device error, HSM violation etc etc) showed up during the
install. Progress was so bad that in the end I terminated the install
(of the base OS) after about 2 hours, as it was making no headway
against the constant flow of disk errors (as seen in the logs accessed
via the CTRL-ALT-F4 key). Frustratingly I couldn't find any way to
capture those logs, as I didn't seem able to mount a USB key to the
installing system - that could have been my lack of knowledge/problem,
but annoying all the same.

Since this is my main server I can't keep this as a test system just for
this problem, so I've had to restore my Gutsy system again. I'm now
running on only the two integrated Via SATA controllers in a RAID 1
configuration (rather than RAID 5) to avoid the drive attached to the
Silicon Image PCI card. Since I am now nominally not using the 500GB
drive attached to the Silicon Image PCI card, I can probably test
further suggestions much more easily, as there ought to be no need to
install/reimage the server each time, and a live CD ought to be able to
get at the Silicon Image controller/drive now.

Let me know what more I can do to help. Thanks

[Bug 102555] Re: network-manager-gnome needs a default network checkbox

2008-01-03 Thread Sika
You can disable a wireless network using this command (replace ESSID
by the essid you don't want to connect to):

gconftool-2 --recursive-unset
/system/networking/wireless/networks/ESSID

With this, network manager won't try to connect to it unless you tell it to do
so.
It works fine for me though it is not really user friendly. An option in
network manager would be really better.
