I encountered the exact same problem, and just like sammiam wrote, it
was the DFE-350TX+ adapter that caused the problem. When I switched to
using an onboard network interface on a server, NFS worked like a charm.

512MB ram - about 6 years old. It's a Dell Inspiron 4000. The laptop
