the vesa driver didn't get installed in the first place (strange to have
a fallback-to-vesa process without installing vesa!).

In my case the problem went away by itself after a few days. I just
tried to update again after a week or so without changing anything and
it worked like a charm. This was on 2 different machines! Unfortunately
I've no idea what did the trick. Maybe something was changed on the

Tried catalyst 7.12 over the weekend on Thinkpad T41p with ATI Mobility
T2, 2.4.22-generic from gutsy as well as 2.4.24-generic from hardy.
Kernel module loads, X works fine, but any GL applications segfaults
with dmesg showing some strange mutex lookup errors from kernel fglrx
module.
