Same problem with Kubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) and Compiz-fusion... I have an
Nvidia 8600 GT 256MB graphics card, a card which came up several times
at Bug #131013. This is an important bug to fix but it also affect the
power manager battery tray item in addition to the notifier.

VGA quality, not realizing that higher resolutions were possible, until
I experimented with different distros. When I started messing with
vga=XXX I got the blank screens.

I tried hardy Alpha 3 (alternate as i couldn't install in graphical mode) with

I recently upgraded my ibook G4 (ppc) to hardy and the upgrade was
somehow borked. I don't know what happened exactly. I see usplash for
long time and then get a shell (ash).
So I decided to do a reinstall. I used ppc nightly 'Alternate CD' of date 26th.
