I found the same problem too in KDE since Edgy (until now: Gutsy). I've been
using Japanese in English environment. Because I just want to learn Japanese. I
found that some of the Japanese characters are unreadable. They look like some

This appears to only effect thinkpads using the Intel x3100 graphics.
I have a Thinkpad 61p with Nvidia Quadro and the brightness control

I get the same thing with xubuntu 8.04/evolution 2.22.0ubuntu2. I can't
seem to get a screenshot at the moment, but it is as Mike describes: the
subject line in vertical preview has a seemingly stretched monospace
font.

I would suggest that you do the following:
Check your bios settings. There will likely be a setting which sets the
functionality of the power button. Try some different settings here. The usual
options are Suspend to RAM or Disk, and hold for 4 secs for hard power down,
signal to OS
I prefer the solution here to be debconf. There is some logic already
in place for how this happens, but it clearly isn't complete. Would you
mind posting an example that you are running into difficulties with this
in it's current state? Or is this more of a hypothetical just looking
to fix
I had the same problem yesterday. Upgrading to Hardy made i386 kernel
installed, but only the main part of kernel.
I installed linux-i386 (to have additionnal drivers installed) and then
sound worked.

Add missing lircd.conf and lircrc for the ASUS MyCinema P7131 Hybrid TV card
This bug is due to be closed as the default behaviour is to disable ACPI
support on old motherboards. Gutsy warns about this at boot time and suggests
that acpi=force be used if the system has some form of ACPI functionality.

You are right, Harald, the dependency bugs are in the individual KDE4
packages, not in kubuntu-kde4-meta. Moreover, the most recent
konqueror-kde4 and systemsettings-kde4 have already fixed the problems
by including the missing dependent core library packages.

processes IEXPLORE.EXE winserver ~ 100% cpu usage. After closing IE6,
remains wineserver 100% cpu usage.

I looked at the init file in the /initrd file, and they seem to be same files.
The line of export is export panic= in Debian etch's initramfs-tools.
Which is correct?

Have you got the file /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/fr ?

I installed keyjnote from the repos and couldn't get it work. I

You may be right about EXA not being used on my system. My log file
seems to show that. I'm not sure though so I'm attaching it here.
This is odd because my xorg.conf says to use EXA:

The first time you visit a java site, firefox asks for the plugin.
After installing the plugin, firefox does not ask for it, but still nothing is
happening.
After making the symlink as well, it works..
