[Bug 197130] Re: [hardy] Black X screen and system halt after installing linux-rt

2008-04-10 Thread Timo Aaltonen
It's not a bug in the server unless you can prove it. The system seems
to hang when it loads libglx (which is the nvidia version).

Try removing nvidia-glx(-new) and installing it using the upstream
installer.

[Bug 206113] Re: Wubi install cannot create swap space (8.04 Beta) [Regression from alpha 6]

2008-04-10 Thread Agostino Russo
LaMont,

Tried your package and looks good here.

I booted into LiveCD session (VM), installed your package, and ran
ubiquity --automatic (using wubi preseed). The swap file was formatted
without any error and swapped on. Note that I cannot reproduce the error
above (which is possibly due to non-contiguous swap) all I can assess is
whether it works or not in my case. And it does work.

[Bug 215517] [NEW] Impossible to name a directory with several spaces and hyphens

2008-04-10 Thread Georges Seguin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

On a ftp server we cannot create directories named with blank and "-"
(E.G. "n1 n2 - n3 n4 - n5 n6"). When we do it we have the following
error "The item could not be renamed. There is no "untitled folder" in
this folder. Perhaps it was just moved or deleted?". It appears as
"untitled folder" while using Nautilus but when we check it out by using
SSH or other ftp clients, the name of the folder is the one we chose.
After a refresh, the directory disappears completely from the list.

I disagree. Bug #105545 seems to be a collection of bugs saying that
the modem doesn't work. The modem does actually work for me, and the
CD flash being not hidden is a new thing in hardy. The bug is on
nautilus, as I don't think it functions as flash memory (I think the
kernel is doing that bit right)

I'm obviously not going to install random patches from a bug to 'fix'
my working modem.

Re: [Bug 195390] Re: gtk icons not showing right in taskbar/system tray

2008-04-10 Thread smyrman
Well, as for Firefox 3.0, I don't really know as Firefox 3.0 in ubuntu
seams to have stopped working. (More info on this later, and in
another bug report). For Firefox 2 it seams to no longer be an issue.
Possibly because it is no longer allowed to change the task-bar icon
by KDE(?).

How-ever, when it comes to the try-icons, there seams to still be an
issue. At least Pidgin still has the same problem (as in previous
screenshot) with the system-tray.

[Bug 215515] [NEW] adept_manager: impossible to change status from "remove" to "purge"

2008-04-10 Thread Christian A. Reiter
Public bug reported:

in adept_manager, try to remove something with "purge", and some other
dependencies are removed too, but only with status "remove", not purge.
If i want to purge them as well, i can't change their status from "remove" to
"purge", I have to do it via "cancel changes".
This is not correct, in Synaptic it does work, and working much faster that way.

BTW, why not purge dependencies of purged packets, like aptitude does
it, afaik?

[Bug 193112] Re: [apport] Hardy: compiz.real crashes with SIGSEGV on startup in XGetXCBConnection

2008-04-10 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Should upgrading all of the xserver-xorg* packages be sufficient? I
upgraded all of those plus the compiz ones to the latest versions in
hardy, but the crash still occurs. Changing back to New.

I have been unable to get the NVIDIA drivers to install properly in the
Hardy Heron LiveCD environment, so unfortunately I am unable to test in
hardy for real.

[Bug 213775] Re: ghc 6.8.2 cabal won't run

2008-04-10 Thread Holden Karau
I removed the ghc6 package and then went through and deleted everything that
mentioned ghc and re-installed the ghc6 package and now:
if I run runghc --package Cabal Setup.lhs it says "bash: /usr/local/bin/runghc:
No such file or directory" but "runghc6 Setup.lhs" works just fine.
Looking at both of them:
ls -al /usr/bin/runghc
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2008-04-11 01:58 /usr/bin/runghc ->
/etc/alternatives/runghc
ls -al /usr/bin/runghc6
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 2008-04-11 01:57 /usr/bin/runghc6 ->
../lib/ghc-6.8.2/bin/runghc
Which suggest that all that is needed is updating the symbolic link of rungh to
../lib/ghc-6.8.2/bin/runghc

Looking at ghc6_6.8.2-2ubuntu1.diff I'd suggest changing
"+--slave $execdir/runghc runghc $bindir/runghc \" to "+
--slave $execdir/runghc runghc$execdir/runghc6 \"

[Bug 193574] Re: Feisty to Gutsy some sort of network problem occured during the update

2008-04-10 Thread Caroline Ford
With the bzip errors, try running sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-
get upgrade. Hopefully it will go away.

If it doesn't once you get into gutsy and *still* have a bzip error with
gutsy security then you cna try commenting out the gutsy security entry
in /etc/apt/sources.list, running sudo apt-get update, and then
uncommenting it and running sudo apt-get update.

We can never promise clean installs when you have installed software
from 3rd party repositories, as you have from the error messages you've
posted.

[Bug 215513] [NEW] Ordering by update-grub2 wrong

2008-04-10 Thread Legolas
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

The updater of the grub2 boot menu has some faults in ordering. As an
example it puts "linux-image-2.6.24-8-generic" above "linux-
image-2.6.24-15-generic".

Also, when reading Debian's qa it says it does the same with rc kernels:

I'm not sure about this one. You could try removing all the repositories

need guidance https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu.

Re: [Bug 214750] Re: Couldn't display obex

2008-04-10 Thread Harri
I don't think that your reply makes my bug report invalid. The
error message is absolutely meaningless for 99% of the Ubuntusers,
regardless whether they used an expected BT device or not. Maybe
the next unexpected PDA connected via BT creates the same error
popup.

My suggestion would be to reopen this BR to get some more user-
friendly dialog here.

Many thanx

[Bug 125471] Possible Solution: Ubuntu Server and Debian - EXACTLY same installation in a VM. See below.

2008-04-10 Thread mactimes
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I've been testing both, Ubuntu Server and Debian in VM's to make a decision for
installation for a production server.
One of the tests I ran was exactly this: Using mirroring for all of the
system's partitions, including the OS.
I reproduced exactly the same steps for both OS's like 3 times each.
After each installation, I tried shutting down and removing one of the disks.
For Debian, succeeded all times. Reconnected the disk and resynchronized the
disks and everything went OK.
For Ubuntu Server, failed all times, taking me to busy box shell. I could
connect the disk back and boot it up without doing anything else.
Thought I've installed Ubuntu Server much more than 3 times before trying
Debian out, I have further info about this behavior.
Twice, after reconnecting the disk back, I could see the disk resynchronizing,
but at about 16% or so, I got kernel panic due to inability to synchronize
disks in RAID1.

About the VM's:
Running latest VMware Server.
Ubuntu Server 7.10 - i386
Debian 40r3-i386

Hope it is of some use while pursuing a definite solution for this
issue.

Best regards,
Fabiano Antunes (mactimes)

[Bug 105545] Re: HUAWEI E220 no longer works in Feisty/Hardy

2008-04-10 Thread htoug
The patch from Niall is still required see the attached kern.logs.

I have tried the current hal-info and your patched vesion.
Current (20080317+git20080318-1ubuntu3) still mounts the CD-ROM part and
disconnects, while your package (20080317+git20080318-1ubuntu4~blueyedppa1)
just works.

Note that this is all using the 2.6.24-14-generic kernel (2.6.24-14-generic #1
SMP Thu Apr 3 04:49:29 UTC 2008).
Switching to the latest kernel in Hardy (2.6.24-15-generic #1 SMP Tue Apr 8
00:33:51 UTC 2008) causes it all to fail miserably - reported in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/215308.

[Bug 215490] Re: objects doesn't remember transparent level across sessions

2008-04-10 Thread alexrudd
Of course, the instant I hit submit I found what I was looking for.

Adel, as a workaround please try installing compizconfig-settings-manager.
Under general options, click the Opacity Settings tab (it's off to the right.)
In the section labelled Window Opacities, add a new rule using New. Then you
can set which applications (such as gnome-panel) that you want transparent, and
how much. I think this will save across sessions, although if you change the
transparency later with the mouse wheel it will not.

Oh, it's certainly more elegant. I did not dig into the quite

[Bug 215499] [NEW] Nautilus not preserving timestamps

2008-04-10 Thread Andrew Gale
Public bug reported:

Timestamps are not preserved when copying files/directories via
Nautilus. Reproducible by mounting an ext3 partition and copying to
local home directory. This behavior worked as expected in 7.10 by
preserving timestamps, whether cross-partition or the same partition.

 Importance: Undecided

I haven't seen the problem in a while. Also, automatic reconnections
