[Bug 226405] [NEW] Missing support for upsmon only configuration (slave)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nut There should be a package to support slave only devices. As of now the package takes for granted that the computer using upsmon is also the one with the ups connected (so the scripts doesn't work if upsd and upsdrvctl aren't configured) while this could be not the case (in my case it's connected to a server using a low amount of power which dispatches informations about the ups status to other connected computers). So there is no way to get upsmon to auto start without doing big editing of the init.d script (or making them from scratch which is maybe even easier). ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron package 2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7 A secondary package with only upsmon would be the ideal but if not possible / not willing to do it making the init script launch upsmon even if upsd / upsdrvctl failed would be good enough (at least for me) thanks :) ** Affects: nut (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Missing support for upsmon only configuration (slave) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226405 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nut in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 226208] Re: Transmission doesn't remember dialog sizes
Thank you for pointing that out. I do try to be explicit when I communicate, but in this instance, I wasn't. Indeed, I did mean every time, and not once in a while. Where I wrote from time to time, I should've written from dialog to dialog. I am also uncertain regarding whether or not the dialogs sizes should be remembered for each torrent or globally. On one hand, the file names will be of different length in different torrents. On the other hand, continuously changing dialog sizes might be slightly confusing. The users screen size will be fairly static, so the biggest dialog will almost always fit. Without looking at the code, I'm guessing it'd probably be a lot less work to use a global and persistent dialog size for all dialogs, but I would recommend looking into the alternative as well. -- Transmission doesn't remember dialog sizes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226208 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 199707] Re: trashcan has disappear from panel
Confirmed in 8.04. A friend who uses my system under a non-sudo account I created for them asked me why their trashcan in the taskbar bottom-right kept disappearing. Where's the trashcan? I looked around and I can't see it? I thought it was because I had changed the theme for him from the default human theme to a blue one (I forget the name of the theme I changed it to), and I had seen the trash icon there when I set it up for him. I thought he was crazy, so I logged into his account with him there, and sure enough, it was gone. I googled for info and saw this page, my friend began dancing in celebration. It turns out he wasn't crazy after all, but I had never experienced this strange bug before now. This does not occur for me on my sudo-enabled user account, the first account created during the Ubuntu install. It does occur for my friend when he logs into his non-sudo account. He uses a different theme, one of the others offered in the default install, it gives him a blue trashcan and a green running stick figure Quit icon in the top right corner of the screen. He has no other problems other than this disappearing trash icon. I enabled the Trash icon on his desktop and he is satisfied, he hasn't said a word about the missing trash icon even though it still is missing when he logs into his account. I'm not sure at what point the trash icon on the bottom panel started disappearing for him. -- trashcan has disappear from panel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199707 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 203552] Re: Suspend/hibernate does not work with HP Pavilion dv9340ea
I have an HP Pavilion DV9000z (AMD) and am seeing similar issues. However, rather than focusing on the video controller, I want to propose another culprit: the Broadcom Wireless Network Controller A couple notes on the system: * Dual Core AMD Turion 64 * nVidia GeForce GO 7600 * Broadcom BCM4312 * 1GB RAM Basic OS Info (more to come later as attachments): Linux feathers 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 12:47:45 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/LinuxDISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=hardy DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu 8.04 So back to my proposal. For me on my system, if I shut down all applications that make outgoing connections (think Pidgin, Thunderbird, Firefox [if connections are still in a TIME_WAIT state], etc.) are running and have connections to the network made, the system hangs on any hibernate attempts. The test I did to gain relative confidence in this theory was simple. I ran netstat prior to each hibernate attempt like so: netstat --inet --inet6 That dumps out all of the current live connections for IPv4 and IPv6 (if there were any). Having services LISTENing does not seem to make a difference as I have sshd running and was still able to hibernate so long as there were no live connections at the time of hibernation. So the gist is that if there are no entries in the netstat output, the machine typically will hibernate for me. I am using the b43 driver as it seems to be more stable now in the general release of Hardy. Also since this is a Pavilion, I am also no longer using the funky kernel workarounds (noapic, irqpoll, noirqdebug) to keep the system from hanging as it appears those patches to clean that up finally made it into the kernel. Prior to that, i was using those workarounds as well as ndiswrapper to get WIFI and let's just say that all bets were off on hibernation, etc. As far as other testing, I have brought the machine into single user mode and have tried to manually suspend and hibernate the machine. Both work great except for suspend. When I resume, I have to issue vbetool dpms on to turn the backlight back on... This might be an offshoot into another bug if it proves to be separate issue. It may already even be a bug that I have yet to find. But in any case, I would love to see others try to see if this has any effect on their hibernation outcomes. ** Attachment added: lshw.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/14188499/lshw.txt -- Suspend/hibernate does not work with HP Pavilion dv9340ea https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/203552 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 226377] [NEW] Screen Saver Preferences - Insufficient Settings
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Ubuntu 8.04 (i386) Final. gnome-screensaver 2.22.2-0ubuntu1 The default Screen Saver preferences window in Ubuntu has almost no options available. One can choose the screensaver to use, but can make no customizations at all for that screen. For some screensavers, this is minor, because it might just be to choose the number of objects on screen, or the speed of the screensaver. However, with some screensavers, slideshow ones in particular (eg GLSlideshow) having access to customizations is essential. Most critically the user needs to be able tell the screensaver the location of the images to be shown. Additionally the user might want to adjust the other parameters. GLSlideshow, for example, has quite a few parameters available, but they cannot be accessed with gnome- screensaver. Some people manually search and edit the config files - this is what keeps Ubuntu as a geeky OS rather than a sleek OS for human beings. I found that installing the Xscreensaver 5.04 package allowed me access to most of the parameters. Xscreensaver is not perfect, but it is much better than gnome-screensaver. If the latter does not improve, it should not remain as the default screensaver package. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Screen Saver Preferences - Insufficient Settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226377 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I **correctly** enter my password at the login screen, then it looks like I am getting logged-in because the screen goes blank for a second, but then the login screen suddenly reappears. So I have to RE-enter the password to try a second time. Sometimes login succeeds at the second try, but I eventually get the black screen if I try to login and out a few times. -- [hardy] No logout possible in KDE4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/198220 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 161745] Re: Why isn't thinkpad-brightness-down.sh used for Lenovo thinkpads?
So what is the option for users without gnome-power-manager or its KDE counterpart? Brightness seems to work fine on my T61 with the regular hardy desktop. On a T60 with slim+openbox, I have to resort to either PJ's tip about /proc/acpi/ibm/cmos or use echo nn /proc/acpi/video/VID/LCD0/brightness. Or I can load the thinkpad_acpi module with brightness_enable=1 and echo values to /proc/acpi/ibm/brightness. I have a custom init script that sets the IBM hotkey mask so that acpi registers the IBM hotkeys when the brightness buttons are pressed. hotkey-setup does not appear to do that for me. This is a problem in general for all the Fn+... keys. The volume keys work fine, however other than the Thinklight nothing seems to work out of the box for me. My setup: hardy command line install with X, openbox and slim. I am not sure if this is a bug or a lack of configuration on my part, but fixes would be great. Re: [Bug 89362] Re: system locking up (forcing a hard reboot)
Gareth, Thanks for the quick following up. I have to moderate my earlier complain about kernel 2.6. Doing further tests, I noticed that firefox was able to cause trouble (wild CPU and disk usage and I am becoming a little quick to force a computer shutdown because of the freezes). Nevertheless, I still experience freezes. Here are the data: 1- uname Linux localhost 2.6.24-16-generic #1 SMP Thu Apr 10 13:23:42 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux 2- dmesg (see file attached - done right after a freeze-forced reboot; doing dmesg during a freeze does not let me save the output anywhere on the disk, neither on a thumbdrive, and email software is frozen - all IO on storage seem unavailable) 3- lspci (see file attached) 4- dmidecode (see file attached) Notes: I have found nothing that seemed relevant in either syslog, kern.log, or messages. log/messages says ata2.00: ATAPI: TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-L632D, SC04, max UDMA/33 about the optical drive. All the above was done while booting with the kernel parameter combined_mode=libata 2008/4/23 Gareth Fitzworthington [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Lau, OK we've checked some likely causes with no success. [Bug 204624] Re: CAPI not working correctly on Ubuntu hardy (8.04)
I can recreate the issue on two different PCs with two different AVM Fritzcard PCI. Some other users like in the german ubuntu forum do have also this problems. See http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/168953/ (german). Google fills up with the reports also. If possible, I would set the importance to high or at least middle as a lot of users which use ISDN landlines to connect have these problems. In the meantime it could also (sometimes) help to download http://rapidshare.de/files/39255014/AVM-Fritz.tar.gz.html and use $cd /usr/src/AVM-Fritz/fcpci-3.11.07 $sudo make $sudo make install $sudo depmod -a $modprobe -l | grep fcpci to install the module. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). In particular, if you could provide examples of the websites you have trouble with, and exactly what issues you are having, it would be very helpful. [Bug 226280] Re: Firefox crash when loading svg image
cairo_path_extents was added in cairo 1.5.8. So your system library is the right version (1.6.0 ) BUT you've another version of Cairo in /usr/local/lib which is probably too old. This may be the culprit. You can either uninstall the /usr/local/lib if you don't use it version or upgrade your locale library or set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib to be certain that the one in /usr/lib is loaded first. run ldd /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9b5/libxul.so | grep cairo and be sure that the library is the one in /usr/lib. Please confirm before closing this report. [Bug 226154] Re: Formula error OpenOffice 2.4
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .
