[Bug 222761] Re: [SRU] upsd doesn't start NOT 221737
I reproduced the initial problem using nut-2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7. I verified that using the package in -proposed, nut-2.2.1-2.1ubuntu7.1, corrects the issue, but *only* if the -proposed package is a new installation of the nut package. Upgrading to the nut package in -proposed from the version released in Hardy does not fix the issue; this is because the nut user and group already exist in the passwd database, and thus adduser does not get invoked. Similarly, removing the nut package entirely and then attempting to install the fixed package leaves the user with the same problem because on package removal the nut user and group are not removed. I'm assuming this is insufficient and am tentatively rejecting the fix, as the committed fix doesn't actually address the issue for people currently attempting to use the package. My test system does not have a UPS attached so I haven't actually verified that the nut package otherwise works. ** Changed in: nut (Ubuntu Hardy) Status: Fix Committed = In Progress -- [SRU] upsd doesn't start NOT 221737 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nut in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 99740] Re: Firefox problems with desktop-effects
Re-opening this bug as I still have it. I'm running a fully patched Hardy system. Here's how to replicate the bug. You need to have Ubuntu's Visual Effects enabled to trigger this. 1. Open a single instance of Firefox with no tabs open. 2. Go to http://www.htmlgoodies.com/legacy/beyond/javascript/bigsmall.html 3. Click the Maximize link located at the top left of this webpage. 4. Close Firefox. 5. Re-open Firefox. 6. Now the titlebar for Firefox and upper/lower panels should be missing. You will also notice that the Edit-- Preferences will open under the browser instead of on top as well as the Downloads window. To get Firefox back to normal you need to: 1. Press F-11 twice. 2. Click the Maximize button at the top right of you Firefox Window. 3. Notice that your top panel disappears but the bottom one remains present. 4. Right click on the Firefox process within your bottom panel and click Move 5. With your mouse, drag the window down a bit so that you can manually resize it to your ideals. 6. Hit the Maximize button again and it should be back to normal. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Released = Confirmed -- Firefox problems with desktop-effects https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99740 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 150333] Re: More magic for Kubuntu
** Description changed: GNOME had more lacks than KDE. Ubuntu's developers have solved it, and the proof of this is that in Ubuntu's 7.10 GNOME already it is not necessary to open a terminal to configure the system. For it, I think that now it is the moment to offer a bit more of contribution to Kubuntu project, and to obtain this way a distro as perfect as Ubuntu, but with the whole potential that KDE offers (¡It 's possible rip audio CDs with copy paste!), which will be, undoubtedly (in my opinion), the definitive desktop. With this I want to say, that, you should put the same magic simultaneously in both distributions. For example: it has been necessary to wait to kubuntu 7.10 to have GDebi-KDE, and the rest of automations that are not in Kubuntu, but yes in Ubuntu. I request the same magic that exists in Ubuntu. [Bug 235672] [NEW] devices attached to PCCard-USB adapter not recognized at boot time
Public bug reported: USB devices attached via a USB-PCMCIA Adaptor are not recognised at boot time. After a cold start, once the system has booted up, I must manually remove and insert those devices in order to make the system recognise them. After a warm restart, some of them are recognised, some not (see below for more details about which ones). My system is a HP-Compaq laptop (NC8000 family) with two USB2.0 ports and a pcmcia expansion slot, in which I have a PCMCIA-USB adapter/hub/controller (don't know the correct term :) that expands the laptop connection with two new USB ports). Attached to each port are: USB1 = Pinnacle dual dvb-tv tuner (recognised without problem) USB2 = Arduino board (works with ftdi_sio as a serial port connected via USB) PCMCIA USB1 = Pinnacle dvb-tuner (problems at cold boot) PCMCIA USB2 = IOMega external hard drive 500GB (problems at cold/warm boot) Devices attached directly to laptop's USB ports work without any problem. For devices attached via USB additional ports (via PCMCIA), there are two scenarios: A) Cool booting (laptop switched off - laptop switched on): - The Hauppauge dvb-tv is not recognised until I manually unplug and plug it back again. At that poit, it is recognised and initialised, and everything works ok regarding this device - The iomega storage is recognised but not mounted (it has an entry in /etc/fstab) and I must manually mount it B) Warm reboot (laptop reboot without unplugging) - The hauppauge dvb-tv is recognised and works properly (no problem here) - The iomega storage is recognised but not mounted (same that in the (a) scenario) Some days ago, my first configuration was different, and the Arduino board was connected to the PCMCIA adapter, which was causing also problems: kind of unresponiveness when reading via /dev/ttyUSB from the board, after plugging it into a native USB port, the problems dissapeared) I don't know exactly the package where the problem is, but probably something related to udev? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- devices attached to PCCard-USB adapter not recognized at boot time https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235672 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 235670] [NEW] Unable to print to parallel port
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev It appears that the solution to this problem has been known for sometime, but I just experienced it with a fresh install (and update) of Kubuntu 8.04. I was unable to find the bug on launchpad... hopefully this one isn't a duplicate. I'm running Kubuntu 8.04 After installing my Brother HL-2070N using the deb packages provided by Brother, the printer was visible in CUPS and I was able to complete the configuration of it (change the uri from the default 'usb' to 'parallel:/dev/lp0'). [Bug 235676] [NEW] CIFS kernel crash
Public bug reported: I'm getting annoying crashes of CIFS while removing files from a mounted share.
** Changed in: nut (Ubuntu Hardy) Status: Fix Committed = In Progress -- [SRU] upsd doesn't start NOT 221737 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/222761 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 36251] Re: Unreadable Font Size for GDM Login/Password
I'm using a different theme, happygnome-list, but I tried the equivalent of the fix suggested by Sun Wukong. My username and password entries are now a good, readable size, but to accomplish this I had to set the font size to 48! I believe that the original font size of 14 in the .xml file is reasonable, and that something other than the font size setting is causing this problem. In this theme, there are several other boxes where the font is unreadably small, and I found no way to increase their sizes. There are three boxes along the lower left side of the screen, which I think from looking at the xml code are options, session, and last language. They are almost legible, but not quite. In addition, there are two boxes below the username/password entry box, which I think are labeled OK and Cancel, again based on examining the xml code. Furthermore, the username list on the upper left part of the screen is also tiny. All the other text on the screen is readable size, things like the enter password prompt, the caps lock is on message and so forth. The items which are rendered unreadably small are those of type button, list, and entry. I could find nothing in the xml code that would affect the font size of the button or list items, and the one thing that could be affected required a ridiculously large font size value to be made readable. -- Unreadable Font Size for GDM Login/Password https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/36251 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Again only helped temporarily - Then I found the following sollution in BugZilla (http://www.intellinuxwireless.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1579): Creating /etc/modprobe.d/iwl3945 with the following contents : alias wlan0 iwl3945 options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1 -- Intel 3945ABG not working in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/226411 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
