[Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-24 Thread Deon Spengler
Hi all, thanks for the help.
I have installed the updates from hardy-proposed, problem still exists

Before update totem-gstreamer gave and error message but totem-xine did not
give a error message, it just did not work.
After update totem-gstreamer still gives same error message and totem-xine now
gives error message as well

How I access the files:

I use nautilus to browse to the shares on my network then I double click to
play the avi's
Files on the share are only avi which are either xvid or divx encoded

Client Side:

Totem 2.22.1 using xine backend
xine-lib version 1.1.11.1
libsmbclient 3.0.28a-lubuntu4.3

What works:

mplayer will play the files
vlc will play the files
totem will play the files if I go via .gvfs/sharename

What does not work:

using nautilus to browse to the share then double clicking on the file.
Using totem to open location smb://192.168.0.2/myshare/movie.avi

Server Side:

I have 2 servers
1.) Ubuntu 8.04
2.) Windows 2003 Standard Server

Error Massage when trying to play files

totem-xine error: There is no plugin to handle this movie.

Share on Windows 2003 Standard Server
totem-xine error: There is no input plugin to handle the location of this movie

Note everything works fine either with mplayer or vlc.

Can you provide log files
which log files would you like and where will I find them?

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-06-24 Thread Steve Langasek
Bálint,

I'm fairly certain that the bug you're seeing is not the same as the bug
described in this report; I'm not sure it's even possible for Windows
2003 to be downgraded to lanman-only authentication. Perhaps your
problem is related to bug #207072 instead?

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-06-24 Thread Bálint Magyar
Steve, I'm quite confused about which bug my experiences belong under,
as my original bug #215570 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug
twice. To be sure, Windows 2003 shares use NTLMv2 auth. Quite sure my
problems are unrelated to #207072 as browsing seems to work fine, but
not mounting or actually displaying contents of shares.

[Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
I still cannot reproduce this as I can access the files with totem-
gstreamer via nautilus and location without errors. Deon, can you attach
your smb.conf file?

Deon, do you have any Dapper, Feisty or Gutsy clients that you can test.
If they also behave differently than before the update, then this is
probably the security update that caused the problem, otherwise it is
most likely the 4.1 -update.

I'll let Chuck specify the log files he is looking for.

[Bug 240387] Re: php5-ldap TLS (start_tls) quirks

2008-06-24 Thread Martin Adler
I have turned off authnz-ldap apache authentication for the specific
site and that seems to do the trick ... of course now all my pages are
out in the open but at least the scripts run with startTLS ... so it
seems to be a combination of starttls with apache authnz-ldap config and
the php script itself using starttls ...

[Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-24 Thread Deon Spengler
I have 3 ubuntu 8.04 systems.

first box) did new install and updates, tried to play some avi's from my
ubuntu 7.10 server and no joy. I thought at first it was a bad install.

second box) had ubuntu 8.04 on it already was playing files fine from
the windows 2003 server and the 7.10 server then it upgrade and it
stopped working

third box) at this stage I figured that some thing was going wrong with
the updates so I did 1 update at a time and restart after each update
then tested to see if I can play the file from the two servers that I
have. It stopped working after I upgraded to 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.2 and did
a restart

I have attached my smb.conf file from my client, I can send you my
smb.conf file from my ubuntu server but I dont see why that will be
import seeing that even when I connect to the windows box totem fails to
play.

what confuses me is that totem will work if I mount the share with
smbmount or if I browse the share via .gvfs

[Bug 219914] Re: mod_disk_cache enabled globally by default

2008-06-24 Thread James Troup
This is very simple to reproduce. Take a dapper box, enable mod proxy
and upgrade to hardy. The following code in the postinst will then
kick in.

| if [ $UPGRADE = from_2_0 ]; then
| # Module replacements from previous versions of apache2
| if mod_is_enabled proxy; then
| a2enmod proxy_http
| a2enmod disk_cache
| fi

It's completely unacceptable for disk caching to be unconditionally
enabled across all sites on upgrade just because I was using mod proxy
previously. Please fix this.

[Bug 219914] Re: mod_disk_cache enabled globally by default

Marking as critical for 8.04.1, since we don't have a good way to fix
this for users after they've upgraded from dapper and .1 will turn on
our LTS upgrades for all users.

Chuck, Kees nominated you to take care of this package today for hardy

[Bug 219914] Re: mod_disk_cache enabled globally by default

2008-06-24 Thread Mathias Gug
According to the Debian bug, enabling the disk_cache module on upgrade
is the right thing to do. The proxy.load file in dapper loads
mod_disk_cache. Not enabling it on upgrade would break existing system
(as reported in the debian bug).

However, the apache2.2 package comes with disk caching enabled by
default as of 2.2.4-2:

  * Disk caching is now enabled by default if mod_disk_cache is enabled. If
you don't want to use disk caching, check that mod_disk_cache is disabled
(it was enabled automatically by previous versions when mod_proxy was
enabled). In this case, you might also want to remove any cache files from
/var/cache/apache2/mod_disk_cache .

To ensure that the disk cache does not grow indefinitely, htcacheclean is
now started when mod_disk_cache is enabled. The details can be configured
in /etc/default/apache2 .

This is done by using EnableCache disk / in disk_cache.conf (the same
applies to mem_cache.conf). Removing this directive would not enable
caching of / by default, but disk_cache would still be loaded if the
proxy module was enabled in dapper. That way existing configurations
using disk_cache won't break (mod_disk_cache is loaded), but existing
configuration not using disk_cache won't have caching turned on by
default.

[Bug 219914] Re: mod_disk_cache enabled globally by default

2008-06-24 Thread sf
This behavior is because in 2.0, proxy.load and proxy.conf contained the
LoadModule disk_cache_module and the mod_disk_cache config. Not
enabling mod_disk_cache on upgrades would break caching for proxies
(debian bug 407171).

Maybe enabling mod_disk_cache on upgrades only if something like

egrep -iq '^[[:space:]]*cacheenable' /etc/apache2/apache2.conf
/etc/apache2/mods-enabled/* /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/*
/etc/apache2/conf.d/* /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

(in preinst) gives true would be better.

[Bug 242576] [NEW] image-dev option in xen-create-image not fully integrated

2008-06-24 Thread Eric Price
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xen-tools

There are four methods of giving the destination for xen-create-image:
--dir, --evms, --lvm, and --image-dev. Several places in the code
assume only the first three exist. For example:

147 If you do not wish to use loopback images specify --lvm
148 or --evms. (These three options are mutually
exclusive.)

770 logprint( Please specify either a directory, lvm, or evms
volume to use.\n);

the existence of lvcreate and lvremove.

[Bug 242577] [NEW] Audio profiles on gnome are a disgrace

2008-06-24 Thread Eugenia Loli-Queru
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

Currently, if you want to rip a CD, you do it via Sound Juicer, which talks to
gnome-audio-profiles-properties, which talks to gstreamer, which talks to lame
(for mp3). Thing is, manually creating switches like the following to do your
job:
audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=1 vbr=4
vbr-min-bitrate=128 vbr-max-bitrate=192 ! xingmux ! id3v2mux
is a disgrace to 2008 computing. Users should not have to learn to read and
understand these cryptic lines of switches. When iTunes does it so perfectly
for 8 years now, why can't the Gnome desktop? And if not for mp3, why not even
for OGG?

The Ubuntu project (I don't have any hopes that the gnome or gstreamer
guys will ever get their act together) should provide its users with
something like this: http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/images/gst-lame.png

[Bug 242437] Re: Eye of Gnome displays 99% zoom as default view size

2008-06-24 Thread Milan Knizek
Sorry for not being specific.

1.
In Gnome with Human look and compiz window manager, start nautilus and go to a
folder with an image, which resolution is smaller than your screen size (say,
about 75% each way).

Double click on the image and nautilus will start Eye of Gnome with the
picture displayed.

2.
For images smaller than screen size I would expect that not scaling is applied
and the image displays at 100% (pixel for pixel or 1:1 view).

3.
EoG alwayz displays the image scaled down to 99%.
As a side effect, the image looks blurred (which is normal - after downscaling,
some sharpening should be applied and I do not expect that EoG will do that
since then it would be slow).

Attached you can find a test image (feel free to use elsewhere or
distribute) and a screenshot with highligted zoom percentage.

I assume that problem is caused either by window decoration or by
wrongly calculated window size of EoG.

Let me know if it is still unclear.

guess it should be made public that I have talked to my supervisor at

[Bug 242489] Re: WARNING: vc_resize() - events kernel thread dying on 2.6.24-18-openvz

2008-06-24 Thread jankokoska
The problem is still there on linux-image-2.6.24-19-openvz, as expected.
Also, nm-applet vanished overnight, not sure if that is related
(restarted dbus, nm-applet, would be happy to do some specific debugging
next time if someone can drop a hint).

[Bug 228784] Re: xfce4-session-logout : Incomplete French locale

2008-06-24 Thread Florent Xicluna
Here is a minimal patch for Hardy, against 4.4.2-2ubuntu2.

This SRU aims to fix a regression introduced with Hardy.
It has low risk, since there's only 3 files touched, no source code:
* debian/changelog
* debian/patches/series
* debian/patches/08_fix_xubuntu_translations.patch

The translation patch is minimal. For each PO file:
* it appends 7 new strings, specific for (x)ubuntu, with translations extracted
from the last Intrepid tarball
* it changes case for 2 other strings
* it removes 1 obsolete string (End Session, replaced with Switch user)

Re: [Bug 26689] Re: Device mapper devices have incorrect ownership and permissions.

2008-06-24 Thread Eric Shattow
I don't know how it does this. I thought it was the vgscan command that
created those /dev/vg* device nodes.

I'm remembering an early system I ran to use LVM. The /dev/mapper/* entries
existed when there were no /dev/vg* nodes. When I wanted /dev/vg* nodes I
had to issue a vgscan --mknodes command. It was a long time ago and early
in LVM2 development.

Since the /dev/mapper/* nodes have correct permissions, I must ask if
/dev/vg* nodes having incorrect permissions is really a duplicate bug of
device-mapper issues?

[Bug 242587] [NEW] Driver for Multimedia eXtension Board (MXB) missing

2008-06-24 Thread Michael Hunold
Public bug reported:

This is a duplicate of bug #201197 reported for linux-ubuntu-
modules-2.6.22.

In short: the driver for the Multimedia eXtension Board (MXB) was
removed due to whatever reasons. The maintainer already agreed to bring
it back it, but nothing happened, for over 3 months now.

Of course the driver is still missing for linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24,
so I file this bug here again.

The fix is simple: just change two lines in the kernel's .config.
Please, can somebody take care or tell me how to get this small fix
done?

[Bug 241448] Re: Playing from Samba SMB shared folder now is not possible (it could be done until last upgrade).

2008-06-24 Thread Deon Spengler
Hi all, thanks for the help.
I have installed the updates from hardy-proposed, problem still exists

Before update totem-gstreamer gave and error message but totem-xine did not
give a error message, it just did not work.
After update totem-gstreamer still gives same error message and totem-xine now
gives error message as well

How I access the files:

I use nautilus to browse to the shares on my network then I double click to
play the avi's
Files on the share are only avi which are either xvid or divx encoded

Client Side:

Totem 2.22.1 using xine backend
xine-lib version 1.1.11.1
libsmbclient 3.0.28a-lubuntu4.3

What works:

mplayer will play the files
vlc will play the files
totem will play the files if I go via .gvfs/sharename

What does not work:

using nautilus to browse to the share then double clicking on the file.
Using totem to open location smb://192.168.0.2/myshare/movie.avi

Server Side:

I have 2 servers
1.) Ubuntu 8.04
2.) Windows 2003 Standard Server

Error Massage when trying to play files

totem-xine error: There is no plugin to handle this movie.

Share on Windows 2003 Standard Server
totem-xine error: There is no input plugin to handle the location of this movie

Note everything works fine either with mplayer or vlc.

Can you provide log files
which log files would you like and where will I find them?

Reinhard Tartler [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
 Okay, now things become clearer.

As explained before, you cannot expect to use a keyfile for the root

[...]

But that is not what I want to do. I want to use a keyfile for the
*swap* filesystem.

Where should the key for unencrypting the device come from?

Well, from the root file system I'd expect.

For this reason, I'm converting your bug report to a support ticket,
because that's what you're actually requesting. There is nothing
wrong in the cryptsetup package in this point and the package is
behaving exactly as I would expect it to do.

I'm afraid I still don't see why the warning is appropriate. I'd be
glad if you could try to explain again why the swap filesystem cannot
be decrypted using the key from the root filesystem (this can't be
more difficult than using removable media, can it?).

Thanks for your efforts,

   -Nikolaus

[Bug 242590] [NEW] udev rules should be installed by default

2008-06-24 Thread Soren Hauberg
Public bug reported:

This package comes with a set of udev rules (69-touchscreen.rules) for creating
the device /dev/input/evtouch_event. If you want to use the evtouch driver
today the procedure is as follows:
  1) Figure out you have to install the evtouch driver.
  2) Install the driver.
  3) Figure out you have to setup udev to create a device.
  4) Setup udev.
  5) Configure X and calibrate the monitor.
Steps 1, 3, and 5 are the hard ones. If you install the udev rules by default
(when you install the xserver-xorg-input-evtouch package), steps 3 and 4 will
disappear, which will make it a lot easier to setup a touch screen. I don't
really see the downside to doing this.

[Bug 233824] Re: firefox is shaking when the screen is very small

2008-06-24 Thread Robajz.info
Howdy,

It's not as funny, when you're on assus eeepc or eee pc.
It seems it only happens when the page goes over the height of the window.
Full-screen mode is ok though.
When back from full-screen, no shaking.
After resizing the window, shaking starts gain.
It is intermittent that when switching the tabs it sometimes stops as well.

:o) Best regards, Robajz.info

[Bug 235262] Re: Kernel update 2.6.24-17 gives white screen on log in

2008-06-24 Thread rannsaicher
Yes Ive tried the -19 kernel along with upgrading to the latest ati driver
(8.6) ,This driver didnt work with the -17, -18 or -19 kernel. Im still stuck
on the -16. Can anyone else confirm that they get the message
fglrx: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module
in their dmesg. ( you need to search a dmesg file from the failed boot - they
are stored, zipped, in /var/log/ as dmesg.x.gz where x is an integer, bigger
integer older file. The current one from the latest boot is dmesg.
This appears to be the only symptom I can trace when the failure occurs. Ive
tracked this message down to some sort of version or crc check in the kernel
code that appears to be handling the load of the fglrx kernel module. ( this is
done in module.c for those c programmers who want to poke around in kernel
source).
