[Bug 248028] [NEW] pbuilder-dist and pbuilder-dist-simple are incompatibles

2008-07-12 Thread nxvl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-dev-tools

There is no simple way to migrate from pbuilder-dist to pbuilder-dist-
simple due incompatibilities.

pbuilder-dist uses $PBUILDFOLDER environment variable, but pbuilder-dist-simple
has it hardcoded.
pbuilder-dist uses $DISTRIBUTION-$ARCHITECTURE-base.tgz format for the base
tarball, but pbuilder-dist-simple uses $DISTRIBUTION-base.tgz

This diffs make the migrations from one to other hard (not easy) when it
should.

[Bug 213528] Re: bookmarks copies home page over and over

2008-07-12 Thread Art Clarke
It just occurred to me that all three features (bookmarks, plug-ins & tabs)
probably use some form of table or array to store the pointers and/or
descriptive links.
Could there be an issue with a function related to such a table or array which
is used globally in Firefox?
Possibly in a library used by the compiler rather than an actual code error in
Firefox itself?

Re: [Bug 243838] Re: network manager unable to use WPA security. Hardy!

2008-07-12 Thread Dan
Sorry to delay so long with my reply.

Can you please explain how ndiswrapper may help me? I didn't keep windows on
the laptop at all. Would this make a difference with ndiswrapper?

I have reviewed these threads. The one sticky from wineman, I have reviewed
in the past prior to posting my bug. Since I will be using the notebook on
other networks than my home network, would a static IP address arrangement
be ideal as wineman suggests?

[Bug 213528] Re: bookmarks copies home page over and over

2008-07-12 Thread Art Clarke
Tested suggestions re plug-ins and number of bookmarks.

Plug-ins:
No effect from disabling plug-ins on either Ubuntu or Windows XP (machine is
now re-configured dual boot with seperate hard disks)

Number of bookmarks:
More interesting results.
On Ubuntu:
Starting from clean re-install of Firefox, Bookmarks worked as advertised with
defaults.
Added bookmarks as Sergio did until fault appeared.
Another complete removal and re-install, repeat the test & a DIFFERENT number
of the same bookmarks could be added before the fault occured.
Repeated that process & got a different number of the same bookmarks added!
On XP:
Un-installed & re-installed, with defaults only appeared OK.
Added bookmarks and fault appeared immediately with only a few added.

I would add that I have done clean re-installs of Firefox on Ubuntu previously
simply to get greater stability from it when several tabs have been open
(without any improvement!!).
I'm getting the feeling that there is an underlying problem in the design and
these are only symptoms.

[Bug 245779] Re: Server 8.04 LTS: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 11s! [bond1:3795]

2008-07-12 Thread BobBlack
I have encountered the same issue with a similar setup:

Ubuntu: 8.0.4 + updates
Hardware: HP DL360 (Pentium 4 based Xeon, unsure of DLP "generation")

I am bonding with the onboard NIC, which is (a dual PHY?) Broadcom:
02:02.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit
Ethernet (rev 10)
02:02.1 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5704 Gigabit
Ethernet (rev 10)

My bonding config (in /etc/modprobe.d/bonding):
options bond0 mode=4 lacp_rate=1 miimon=100

Machine is basically locked, I see this message repeated at the console:
BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for 11s! [bond0:3980]

I don't see any OOPS type info, nor a stack trace. (though I can't get
into machine to view syslog)

The machine had locked on me last weekend also, though I was unable to
activate/view the console so I don't know if it was the same problem or
not. I was running the -xen kernel at the time.

When I am able to reboot the machine, I will run memtest on it, but as
it's a production machine, and it takes 5+ days to error, I'm not sure
if I'll be able to do much tinkering to figure out the problem. (I'll
probably just drop bonding for the time being.)

[Bug 110992] Re: ipmi modules need to manually inserted and device created

2008-07-12 Thread drink
I am pleased to report that this works for IBM xSeries eserver 325 also.

Wouldn't it be enough to just make these modules autoload?\

The proper fix for the script if you want it to work as originally
designed is "modprobe ipmi_kcs_drv || modprobe ipmi_si" but... who
cares? seems like a distribution will know which modules are included.

In theory, adding the names of the three modules we want to the end of
/etc/modules should solve the problem. Another theory is that after
doing a depmod, just loading ipmi_si should load all three modules.
Haven't tried it though.

Just throwing an idea out there, maybe another thing to try would be to disable
hyperthreading in the BIOS?
(My DL360 has 2 P4 Xeons and hyperthreading is enabled.)

I'm not going to risk re-enabling bonding on my machine as I was only
using it for failover (I don't need it for increased bandwidth).

[Bug 183715] Re: Kopete crashes desktop when trying to view incoming message

2008-07-12 Thread OskrSaSi
I have some new info:

I have been trying new things with this bug and i have find this:

Ubuntu 8.04 32bits with Nvidia 169.12, Kernel 2.6.24-19-generic, Kopete
0.12.7, GeForce 7400 crashes only when the Visual Effects are set so if
the visual effects are disabled it doesn't crash.

And other interesting note:

Ubuntu 8.04 64bits with Nvidia 169.12, Kernel 2.6.24-19-generic, Kopete
0.12.7, GeForce 7000 never crashes.

[Bug 244025] Re: Add of new file from context menu fails

2008-07-12 Thread Russel Winder
If I had the right version of Bazaar as the main version a link would be
fine, however because all the plugins I am testing require a very recent
version of Bazaar, I have chosen to load bzr.dev and use that from in
tree. So rather than a symbolic link in the path, I have an alias:

alias olive-gtk='PYTHONPATH=/home/Checkouts/Bazaar/Bazaar_Mainline
/home/users/russel/.bazaar/plugins/gtk/olive-gtk'

This seems to do the trick.

When I start Olive-GTK in a directory the "File|Make directory" menu
item is now greyed out. This means you can only initialize to create a
new directory.

So doing initialize in an empty directory, the .bzr directory appears.
The "File|Make directory" is still greyed out and there is no "File|Make
file" entry.

If I "right click" (*) on the listing pane, I get the following on the
terminal:

 Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/home/users/russel/.bazaar/plugins/gtk/olive/__init__.py", line 847, in
on_treeview_right_button_press_event
from menu import OliveMenu
  File "/home/users/russel/.bazaar/plugins/gtk/olive/menu.py", line 33, in

from bzrlib.plugins.gtk import _i18n, launch
ImportError: cannot import name launch

(*) The problem here is that I regularly change from right-handed to
left-handed mouse and indeed regularly use a right-handed mouse with left
handed and vice versa. I think there needs to be a way of describing all these
three-button mouse things without the assumption of right-handedness. I guess
though all the labelling is too deeply ingrained in the system?

[Bug 145282] Re: metacity crashed with SIGSEGV in g_list_length()

2008-07-12 Thread Thomas Thurman
[Sorry, I asked this upstream and the reporter clearly didn't get the
message.]

This is going to be a tough one to track down if we can't reproduce it.
Can you reproduce this bug? What were you actually doing, not moving
windows around or switching between windows or anything? Were you just
typing away, or were you not touching the computer at all?

FWIW, the call to g_list_length here is pretty useless except if you
have logging on. We should probably remove it unless you do, and save a
few cycles. On the other hand, it wouldn't fix this crash, since it's
not *really* a problem with g_list_length but with the rectangle list
containing a pointer outside the segment. We can't tell what that
rectangle list was, since that depends on what called
do_screen_and_xinerama_relative_constraints(), and that information's
been optimised away. Unless we can find out more, we're going to have
to close this for lack of information.

[Bug 190515] Re: [Hardy] Low bandwidth with rt2400 / rt2500 drivers

2008-07-12 Thread sixgun
With Ubuntu kernel 2.6.24.18-generic, I was able to get my RT2500 to
work full speed by using the rt2500-cvs-2008060319 driver. On a
different machine using Ubuntu kernel 2.6.24.19-generic and the same
RT2500 card, I had no choice, but to resort to using the winxp driver
under ndiswrapper.

So far(about 1hr), ndiswrapper seems to be working great for the second
machine. I'll give that machine at least a week, before I actually
declare it as WORKING. My past experience with ndiswrapper has produced
many failures on some machines after 1 week. I know, weird, but welcome
to my life. The first machine with the cvs driver has been working
fullspeed for a good 3 weeks now. But I'll be updating the kernel to
latest in the repos tonight, so I expect I'll probably have some issues
with it of course.

Man what a bummer, As far back as breezy, I never had to do any more
than punch in the ssid for my RT2500. But then hardy came along. I'll
try to keep you updated on my progress.

[Bug 66623] Re: warning: GRClosure invoking callback: already destroyed

2008-07-12 Thread Chiron
@Ian

It has puzzled me, too. Perhaps the maintainer missed the part where the
callbacks break, and thinks that the only trouble is that it is printing
out the warning?

It's not as if use of Glade for GTK UIs is uncommon, lots of projects
use Glade for the creation of smaller or static portions of their UI.
The solution from Benjamin Thyreau seems to do the trick, but needing to
install an additional package to fix a bug in a busted one it a terrible
state of affairs.

I think thats a known bug/feature of beagle-search - that the

[Bug 248010] [NEW] Update manager is extremely problematic - had to cycle power to kill it

2008-07-12 Thread BB
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 8.04, and the update manager is the orange / grey
coloured icon on the top right of the Gnome window.

The update manager is going totally out of control on my computer. It is
swallowing the entire system resources, causing the disk to thrash, and
rendering both the Gnome desktop and the consoles totally unresponsive.

I would have thought that something like an update manager would be set
to run with a high "nice" level, but it seems to run at nice level zero,
and it actually prevents me from using the computer.

Today I had to switch off the computer's power in order to kill the
update manager - there was literally no other way to access the
computer, since it was using so many system resources that I could not
even log in via a console.

grub2 (1.96+20080601-2) unstable; urgency=low

   * 04_run_grub_mkdevicemap_when_grub_probe_fails.diff: Remove.  Argueably
 makes grub-probe unreliable and is quite annoying.

 UUID parameter to Linux when LVM or dmRAID is in use. (Closes: #484228)

[Bug 235560] Re: Connect to smb server by name doesn't work, but by IP address does

2008-07-12 Thread Brandon Powers
Please forgive me if this is incorrect, but I want to see if this
information helps others better troubleshoot this issue.

While researching the issue for my similar bug report, I found that
having a DNS server that responds to otherwise invalid host entries
(i.e. OpenDNS) may contribute. Removing all DNS servers from my network
configuration seems to allow browsing the shares, but I'm still affected
by other issues.

Thanks,
Brandon

[Bug 235135] Re: [MASTER] Please backport flashplugin-nonfree version 10 beta and asound-plugins from Intrepid so we can drop libflashsupport and the crashes it causes

2008-07-12 Thread Daniel T Chen
Ok, this is just a mess. 32-bit users normally don't see crashes with
libflashsupport installed (but some do). 64-bit users will see crashes.
We need to rip out libflashsupport from intrepid's archive
(source+binary) and remove it from intrepid's flashplugin-nonfree's
suggests.

Wait, it gets better. Doing the above will resolve Flash-related
crashers for people using PulseAudio with Flash, but it does absolutely
nothing for people who want to use PulseAudio with Flash. (I don't want
to ask how certain people got libflashsupport installed, but...)
Remember that alsa-libs and alsa-plugins need to be backported, too, and
until the entire ALSA+PulseAudio stack is upgraded to its intrepid
counterpart, those users are still screwed.

In other words, PulseAudio users gain nothing with this backport until
alsa-lib and alsa-plugins are also backported so that libflashsupport
can be removed.

ALSA users should ensure they don't have an /etc/asound.conf or
~/.asoundrc, as using overridden definitions vastly complicates the
error paths. And, of course, they shouldn't have libflashsupport
installed.

64-bit users need to ensure nspluginwrapper and lib32asound2 remain
installed.

[Bug 244093] Re: Checking security repository in Updates adds deb line to Third-Party Software

2008-07-12 Thread Kim Jensen
>I don't know what's wrong with your file or folder structure, mine is
copied fine, but do try this:
sudo chattr -uia /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info
sudo chown root:root /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info
sudo chmod +rw /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info

Now you should be able to replate it:
sudo wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15945141/Ubuntu.info -O
/usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info
ls -l /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info

It does not help:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo chattr -uia
/usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info
[sudo] password for kim:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo wget
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/15945141/Ubuntu.info -O
wget: option requires an argument -- O
Brug: wget [FLAG]... [URL]...

Prøv 'wget --help' for flere flag.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info
bash: /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info: Permission denied
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ls -l /usr/share/python-apt/templates/Ubuntu.info

[Bug 149936] Re: Amarok fails to start when SQLite database is "corrupted"

2008-07-12 Thread Tom Schutter
Although tbreir's fix
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amarok/+bug/149936/comments/12)
worked for me at first, it later stopped working. I had to edit
~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc and remove the [MediaBrowser] section.
After the edit, amarok will start without hanging.

This is on Hardy with version 2:1.4.9.1-0ubuntu3 of amarok.

This is what the [MediaBrowser] section looked like:

[MediaBrowser]
/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_uuid_194C_16D4=ignore
manual|iTouch WiFi|/media/itouch=ipod-mediadevice

And some following sections that may be relavant:

[MediaDevice_manual|iTouch WiFi|/media/itouch]
AutoDeletePodcasts=false
PostDisconnectCommand=ipod-touch-umount
PreConnectCommand=ipod-touch-mount
SyncStats=true
Transcode=false
TranscodeAlways=false
TranscodeRemove=false

[MediaDevice_manual|iTouch WiFi|/mnt/itouch]
AutoDeletePodcasts=false
PostDisconnectCommand=ipod-touch-umount
PreConnectCommand=ipod-touch-mount
SyncStats=true
Transcode=false
TranscodeAlways=false
TranscodeRemove=false

[Bug 66623] Re: warning: GRClosure invoking callback: already destroyed

2008-07-12 Thread Ian McIntosh
I'm still seeing this bug in Hardy. And Owen's one-line patch still
solves the problem.

Is there any reason we can't ship Owen's one-line patch?

This bug was first reported almost 2 years ago. If GTK itself had this
problem, it would be considered a show-stopper. Why is it "Importance:
Low" for a GTK binding?
