[Bug 262957] Re: digikam package is not installable due to depedency in a kde3.5 package no longer available

2008-09-27 Thread Alexia Death
Some of the recent updates have broken it for me again. Trying to use it
yesterday, it turned out to be uninstalled and the only way that could
have happened was the recent dist-upgrade, and me not taking a close
enough look at removed packages list. On install the weirdest thing that
was removed was gwenwiew. After it was installed again I was back to the
state where digikam runs but shows now images. Typical state for wrong
prefix/missing kio slaves.

[Bug 185225] Re: time-admin doesn't allow the removal of custom ntp time sources

2008-09-27 Thread TEN
This exists all the way into Hardy Heron 8.04.1 and should be considered
a bug (rather than Wishlist), as no indication is given where to remove
a misspelled server (sure enough the "server" line in /etc/ntp.conf is
where this information ends up, but Joe Avg. User hasn't even heard the
words NTP at this point). There also seems to be no clear indication how
to enter location information for an added custom time server.

BTW the "Synchronize now" button only exists in "Configuration: Manual"
but might be required even where automatic synchronization is enabled,
e.g. in case of hibernation or VMs.

with the problem. Follows even if I have saved or not saved the

[Bug 275365] Re: update-grub skips last line in /etc/fstab when finding boot device

2008-09-27 Thread WarrenTurkal
** Summary changed:

- update-grub generates garbage when /boot is on a separate partition from root
+ update-grub skips last line in /etc/fstab when finding boot device

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: grub

- The update-grub script always uses the absolute path for the kernel and
- initrd filenames. This results in invalid pathnames for the kernel and
- initrds when /boot is on a separate volume than the / volume. I am
- working on a patch, but the code in update-grub is a little crazy.
+ I have a Dell 1420 laptop that shipped with an earlier version of
+ Ubuntu. I upgraded it to Intrepid and noticed (in a failure to reboot)
+ that the grub-update script was not creating my boot entries properly.
+
+ After investigation, I found that update-grub uses read to look at the
+ lines in /etc/fstab. This works fine until the last line is either the
+ /boot volume (and maybe / volume also) and isn't trailed by a newline.
+ The read command will not read the line without a newline.
+
+ The last line of my /etc/fstab defines my /boot volume and is not
+ trailed by a newline. That line never gets read, and the update-grub
+ script doesn't know about my /boot volume. This causes the script to
+ have "/boot" on all the kernels and initrds in the menu.lst file even
+ though /boot.
+
+ Here's an example of a command not working:
+
+ echo -n '0 1 2 3' | read A && echo $A
+
+ This command outputs nothing in either bash or dash. I will submit a
+ patch to change the read to awk as soon as I can.

I would like to have this fix in for Intrepid since my Dell 1420 laptop
shipped with this partition configuration, and this problem could bite
- all the folks trying to upgrade to the Intrepid.
+ all the folks trying with Dell 1420s when upgrading to Intrepid.

[Bug 275373] [NEW] intrepid: hardware drivers window frozen

2008-09-27 Thread Jem
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: jockey-gtk

I logged into a freshly installed, updated and rebooted ibex alpha 6
installation & tried to enable desktop effects via appearances
preferences. The system prompted me for admin password, but my keyboard
was not working.

I closed the prompt before unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back
in again. The keyboard then worked.

I opened Hardware Drivers and attempted to enable the driver again. The
window does not respond to any mouse or keyboard event at all.

[Bug 275375] [NEW] Please upgrade to deluge-torrent 1.0.0

2008-09-27 Thread Hew McLachlan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deluge-torrent

Deluge 1.0.0 was released on September 22. Please consider this major
release for inclusion in Intrepid.

Release notes: http://forum.deluge-torrent.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9875
Changelog: http://svn.deluge-torrent.org/branches/1.0.0_RC/ChangeLog

I also notice that Deluge 1.0.0 is available in the deluge-team PPA at
http://launchpad.net/~deluge-team/+archive

What's new:

* Core/ui split allowing Deluge to run headless as a daemon
* A redesigned GTK interface
* Migration to the upcoming libtorrent 0.14 release
* Stability improvements across the board
* New codebase which will allow for growth and less bugs
* A much improved queuing system
* New bugs for you to find
* And so much more.. Try it and see for yourself!

Caveats:

* Your preferences will not be migrated, but your torrent list should be.
* Not all plugins have been ported yet and some have been integrated into
the client.
If you need support for RSS or Scheduler, then please stick with the
0.5.x branch
until these plugins can be properly ported to 1.x
* Deluge will start in 'Classic Mode' where daemon functionality will be
hidden
in the gtkui. You can disable this in the Preferences->Interface page, but
it does require a restart of Deluge.

- As discussed in IRC on #ubuntu-motu, BlueZ 4.x resolves regressions that are
seen in the 3.x stack on Intrepid.
- * Particularly, keyboards aren't able to pair in the UI.
-- The combination of bluez-utils 3.36 and the btusb kernel module seems to
be causing problems when pairing bluetooth keyboards.
- * Broken services tab (completely gone in 4.x)
-- This is fixed in bluez-gnome 0.28 or anything later. However you need
to switch to a package in the 4.x series when using the bluez 4.x stack.
+ Regressions solved
+ ---
+ * Keyboards aren't able to pair in the UI.
+- The combination of bluez-utils 3.36 and the btusb kernel module seems to
be causing problems when pairing bluetooth keyboards. Reverting to an earlier
release of bluez-utils is not a good solution as a lot of bugs were fixed by
coming up to 3.36.

- Additionally, the bluez stack's usability is improved in the 4.x version.
- * Usability - there is a pairing wizard with 4.x which is ages beyond what
was in 3.x
+ * Broken services tab
+ - In the 3.x stack, the services tab is unfortunately the only way to
activate new devices.
+ - This is fixed in bluez-gnome 0.28 or anything later. However you need to
switch to a package in the 1.x series when using the Bluez 4.x stack.
+
+ Newer features
+ --
+ The 4.x version brings an additional UI element, a pairing wizard. This may
cause problems for documentation teams, but considering the previous UI was not
intuitive, there likely hasn't been a lot of documentation on it.

- Test packages will be provided in a PPA.
+ Testing
+ --
+ The entire stack that needs to be changed for this bug is available on the
Bluetooth team testing PPA at http://launchpad.net/~bluetooth/+archive .
+ * Builds are all verified functional for i386, amd64, lpia
+ * These builds have all been test installed by adding the PPA to an up to
date Intrepid and doing a dist-upgrade.
+ * Functionality has been verified for keyboards, mice, OBEX browsing, OBEX
sending, and DUN via rfcomm.

[Bug 262504] Re: manual partitioner automatically selects "format" when changing file system, without warning

2008-09-27 Thread RobertH
To answer your question why I found it necessary to change the
filesystem, the answer is that I didn't. It was a slip of the mouse and
I accidentally selected ext2 instead of ext3 or vice versa. (This would
have been less likely, but still not impossible, to happen if the
existing filesystem on the partition was already highlighted or pre-
selected in the drop-down box, but it wasn't.)

Is it worth a pop-up warning dialog? Yes, I think causing a partition to
be formatted by an indirect method (remember, I very intentionally had
left the Format Partition checkbox UNCHECKED!), is worth a pop-up
warning. I can assure you that if I hadn't noticed and caught the
accidental error and if Ubuntu had gone ahead and reformatted my
partition, I would have had some very nasty words to say about Ubuntu
installers!!!

[Bug 106380] Re: No sound or distorted sound from certain Audigy models by default due to digital output being unmuted

2008-09-27 Thread nullack
Daniel, respectfully I do not accept its not possible. When I lspci vvn

knows I have an Audigy2 along with specific attributes of the card. It
seems to be unnecessary bifurcation. By querying the hardware more
fully, which seems possible by existing commands, it would be possible
to be a win win for both scenarios.

[Bug 207612] Re: "Custom effects" doesn't download compizconfig-settings-manager

You need to install this package separately.

These are the packages required (minimum) for desktop-effects-kde:

compiz-kde compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-extra

Installing these will also pull in:

compiz-core compiz-plugins compizconfig-backend-kconfig libcompizconfig0
libdecoration0 libx11-xcb1

If you want to use the custom option, you have to install one of a
couple of available settings managers. This application will not install

[Bug 267913] Re: hda-intel: IRQ timing workaround is activated for card #0. Suggest a bigger bdl_pos_adj

2008-09-27 Thread covox
I have that line in my dmesg, and as of 2.6.27-4 I no longer have sound;
when music plays all I can hear is a series of pops from my speaker.
This is a pretty serious regression as sound works perfectly (with
model=3stack) in 2.6.27-3, with no such error message. This is on a
Toshiba Satellite A100 with a Realtek ALC861.

Not sure if this is related, but roughly 2 times out of 3, on the 2.6.27
series of kernels my computer will lock up just before printing the
"loading kernel modules" step.

[Bug 159778] Re: Gimp "Save a Copy" Screen is Blank

2008-09-27 Thread Katie Molnar
Happens to me too:

Video: Intel 945GM
Compiz: tested both with and without.

I'm glad I do most of my image manipulation with the Python Imaging
Library these days, since this is maddening enough with my light usage.

The (blank) window does still respond to events, so it's possible to
(blindly) type in a filename. Symptoms remind me of an issue I had with
wxWidgets some time ago, in which I was accidentally removing paint
handlers from a dialog before that dialog had been destroyed.

Hope this gets fixed. I'm kind of worried that it's low priority, since
it's exactly the kind of icky user experience quirk that would scare
users away.

[Bug 275365] [NEW] update-grub generates garbage when /boot is on a separate partition from root

2008-09-27 Thread WarrenTurkal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

The update-grub script always uses the absolute path for the kernel and
initrd filenames. This results in invalid pathnames for the kernel and
initrds when /boot is on a separate volume than the / volume. I am
working on a patch, but the code in update-grub is a little crazy.

I would like to have this fix in for Intrepid since my Dell 1420 laptop
shipped with this partition configuration, and this problem could bite
all the folks trying to upgrade to the Intrepid.

work. Thank you again!! I'm a newbie

[Bug 270521] Re: package postfix 2.5.1-2ubuntu1.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 75

2008-09-27 Thread LaMont Jones
newaliases: warning: valid_hostname: misplaced delimiter: angel-
desktop.hsd1.wa.comcast.net.

newaliases: fatal: file /etc/postfix/main.cf: parameter myhostname: bad
parameter value: angel-desktop.hsd1.wa.comcast.net.

I rather expect that the issue here is maybe a trailing dot?

Re: [Bug 275349] [NEW] postfix fails to start: chdir(/usr/libexec/postfix)

When you installed postfix, which configuration option did you pick?
Please attach a copy of the output of postconf -n to the bug.

[Bug 275349] Re: postfix fails to start: chdir(/usr/libexec/postfix)

2008-09-27 Thread LaMont Jones
The package does not deliver anything in /etc/libexec/postfix, nor does
it set any variables equal to that in main.cf.

The configuration is incorrect, and, based on the bug report, created by
you.

Unless you can show me how installing the package resulted in this
configuration, we'll have to close this bug as a misconfiguration by the
admin.

[Bug 275358] [NEW] Firefox Titlebar Hidden By Menu Bar

2008-09-27 Thread Derek Morton
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Release Info: Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10
Package Info: firefox-3.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

Upon opening Firefox for the first time, the Firefox title and menu bars
are hidden by the top system "Applications & Places" bar. This behavior
sticks until you either maximize or move the window using the options by
right-clicking the Window-List bar.

This may be related to the low vertical resolution of my screen
(1280x800).

I can reproduce this by deleting my .mozilla folder.

** Affects: firefox-3.0 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
