[Bug 275608] Re: nm-openvpn swaps ca and cert in openvpn commandline

2008-09-30 Thread Thierry Carrez
OK I think I got it.

When using authentication type Password with Certificate (TLS), the
two labels CA certificate and User certificate are swapped. If you
click on the corresponding file selector, the file selector dialog
window name correctly shows Choose a Certificate Authority
certificate... and Choose your personal certificate It is just
the labels that are shown in the wrong order.

Reproduction:
Create a new VPN. Select authentication type Certificate (TLS). Select :
User Certificate: user.crt
CA Certificate: ca.crt
Private key: user.key
Switch to authentication type Password with certificate(TLS). You get:
User name: empty
CA Certificate: user.crt
User Certificate: ca.crt
Private Key: user.key
Clicking on user.crt to correctly shows the file selector dialog box with
title Choose your personal certificate

Expected results:
When switching to authentication type Password with certificate(TLS). You
should get:
User name: empty
User Certificate: user.crt
CA Certificate: ca.crt
Private Key: user.key

[Bug 276145] Re: Apace2 default configuration incorrect for allowoverride

2008-09-30 Thread Thierry Carrez
Values at install-time with current Intrepid/apache2 are:

Directory /
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
/Directory
Directory /var/www/
Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
allow from all
/Directory

Those are syntactically-correct, sensible and secure default values.

It's true that if you want to do mod_rewrite with .htaccess files,
you'll need to change some AllowOverride to allow parsing the .htaccess
files. That doesn't mean the default configuration shipped with Apache
should change ?

[Bug 276188] [NEW] printing from gimp causes 'gs' to run away and eat up memory

2008-09-30 Thread Aaron C. de Bruyn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ghostscript

When I print an image from GIMP, I notice nothing unusual in the cups
error, access, or page logs, however 'gs' eats up all available memory
within seconds, and then starts swapping. It brings my machine to it's
knees. After about 30 seconds I am able to kill it from a 'top' window
I leave running. The normal SIG_TERM (15) is able to kill it without
resorting to SIG_KILL (9)

After killing the process I get the expected line in /var/log/cups/error_log:
E [29/Sep/2008:22:42:29 -0700] PID 13471 (/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip)
stopped with status 9!
E [29/Sep/2008:22:42:29 -0700] [Job 211] Job stopped due to filter errors.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2008-09-30 Thread CrazyTerabyte
Answering to PiedPiper:
Configurations, Interfaces and Endpoints are the basic structures of an USB
device. You can't limit or mess with those things, else the device will simply
not work. As comparison, it is like limiting the number of legs that a horse
(or maybe any animal) can have. You can't do that.

And about this bug being related to USB hubs... All I can say is that
some hubs can help to trigger or solve the problem (I guess), but I
think this bug also happens on devices connected directly to the host
controller.

[Bug 125182] Re: playback of flash videos skips frames when transitioning to the next song.

2008-09-30 Thread jpangamarca
Workaround: If someone really wants to use Kaffeine instead of VLC or
Totem to play FLV videos (like me), it's possible to configure Kaffeine
to use the GStreamer engine.

1) Install the GStreamer engine: sudo apt-get install kaffeine-gstreamer
2) Go to Settings - Player Engine, and select Kaffeine-GStreamer.
3) Go to Settings - GStreamer engine parameters, and set 'alsasink' as the
preferred audio driver and 'xvimagesink' as the preferred video driver (if you
don't configure the latter, the video appears in a separate window).
4) Restart Kaffeine.

Almost forgot, the volume bar moves to the top of the window after doing
this (I don't know why, it'd be nice to work on that), you can move it
to the botton again if you wish.

[Bug 276194] [NEW] Remote NFS server doesn't get mounted on bootup

Public bug reported:

After upgrading my Intrepid installation some days ago (with aptitude

These log lines appear when I manually mount the share.

[Bug 123282] Re: LDAP fails. Says it can't find the server, but the server is there and spelled correctly. Works in Windows. Problem is probably with the authentifiaction.

2008-09-30 Thread Arno Teigseth
Remember that sometimes DNS is not properly setup. In my organization
the computer dept has a mixed setup of resolving IP addresses via DNS
and via SMB/NETBIOS/WINS or something samba-related.

I had this exact problem until I tried to ping the address book server
from my linux machine, telling me it couldn't be found. From a windows
machine it was found. One of the internal webservers are set up the
same way - only windows-IP-resolution works, not DNS.

Solutions:
a) Setting up samba and make it resolve addresses for you might help the
situation. If this works it's probably best because it mimics whatever
windows does, and in my case the computer department mostly think windowsy.

b) or, you could add the address book server IP address to /etc/hosts,
like I did and it works like a charm. If you go to Evolution
Prefecences, the exchange account and under Receiving options find
global catalog server name to be nooslse002.sonnico.local, you need to
find out the IP address of that server. I just ran ping
nooslse002.sonnico.local on a windows machine. Now add that address to
your /etc/hosts file:

127.0.0.1 localhost
32.8.8.70 nooslse002 nooslse002.sonnico.local

Bob should now be your uncle. He was in my case; I didn't get the LDAP
authentication failed and when I composed a new message, the lookup
effectively worked. This will break when computer department changes the
IP of the global addressbook server. They probably won't, but we're
aware of Murphy's law.

To developers: Maybe something could be done already in the settings
window, like to see if the server can be contacted at all?

[Bug 161960] Re: Add function to WinKey button on keyboard

2008-09-30 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
In Windows, you have a much more generic menu. When the Windows-user
presses Super-L, is he looking for a file, the control panel or an
application? Does he want to shutdown the system? There is a very good
Vista menu clone for Gnome. Perhaps we should use that, because that's
the menu that most people will be familiar with in a few years. Most
people are also accustomed to having the clock and systray in the lower
right corner. We can easily move them there. Actually, why not just use
a single panel? After all, that's what people are used to. If we
switched to a more generic menu like Slab or the previously mentioned
Vista-menu clone, it might make more sense to the same keyboard
shortcut, but we don't.

[Bug 51866] Re: GRUB splashes doesn't work in Dapper

2008-09-30 Thread Adrian Godoy
Issue persists in Hardy. Package involved: grub-splashimages.
1. I renamed one of the files to splash.xpm.gz
2. Moved the file to /boot
3. Ran update-grub:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/boot# update-grub
Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub
Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default
Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ... found: /boot/grub/menu.lst
Searching for splash image ... found but preserving previous setting:
splashimage=(hd0,0)/boot/splash.xpm.gz
Found kernel: /vmlinuz-2.6.24-19-generic
Found kernel: /memtest86+.bin
Updating /boot/grub/menu.lst ... done
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/boot#

That is pretty much where I am at. I tried to display the images under
the grub prompt as indicated a couple comments ago. It seems like my
version of grub does not have splashimage in it because after I mount
the partition with the command root (hd0,0) and try to enter the
splashimage command I get an error 27.

grub root (hd0,0)
root (hd0,0)
grub splashimage /boot/splash.xpm.gz
splashimage /boot/splash.xpm.gz

Error 27: Unrecognized command
grub

I tried placing the file in /boot/grub with the same results.

Let me know if you need extra information.

[Bug 276203] [NEW] Kaffeine problems when using the GStreamer engine

2008-09-30 Thread jpangamarca
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kaffeine

Distro:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

Binary package: kaffeine (0.8.6-0ubuntu8.1)
Source package: 0.8.6-0ubuntu8.1
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kaffeine/0.8.6-0ubuntu8.1)
kaffeine-gstreamer version: 0.8.6-0ubuntu8.1

Kaffeine has problems when playing FLV files using the Kaffeine-Xine
engine (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xine-lib/+bug/125182)
so I proposed a workaround using the Kaffeine-GStreamer engine
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xine-
lib/+bug/125182/comments/8). But when I apply this workaround, the
player misbehaves (the player doesn't do the following things when using
the Xine engine):

- The volume bar goes from the bottom of the screen to the top after the engine
change (but it's easy to drag it again to the bottom).
- When opening any video file from Nautilus, the player doesn't switch
automatically to the Player Window (remains on the Start Window, it does switch
when using the Xine engine). The option Don't switch to player window in the
Playlist menu is unchecked. This happens even if I click the Stop button and
then the Play button. It's necessary to click on the Player Window tab to watch
the video.
- In the Behavior section of the player options, I've checked 'Pause video when
window is minimized'. Video is paused when I minimize the window, but it
doesn't resume automatically when the window is restored (with the Xine engine
it does resume when the window is restored). It's necessary to click the Pause
button to resume.

Please tell me what other information can I provide.

[Bug 275984] Re: ufw FFe to upgrade to 0.23

THis does not look like new features, just bug fixes? Either way, looks
good to me for post-beta. It's in the queue already, so this will auto-
close itself after the beta freeze.

Re: [Bug 123282] Re: LDAP fails. Says it can't find the server, but the server is there and spelled correctly. Works in Windows. Problem is probably with the authentifiaction.

2008-09-30 Thread Julius Roberts
I had this exact problem until I tried to ping the address book server
from my linux machine, telling me it couldn't be found. From a windows
machine it was found. One of the internal webservers are set up the
same way - only windows-IP-resolution works, not DNS.

Unfortunately that is not the case in my instance; DNS is fine and
there are no issues with name resolution. The server
(intranet.wilderness.org.au) exists and indeed i can access websites
running on the same server from my linux machine with no worries at
all.

from my windows machine:
c:\windows\ping -n 2 intranet.wilderness.org.au
Pinging intranet.wilderness.org.au [10.10.1.3] with 32 bytes of data:

Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:

from my linux machine:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/media$ ping -c 2 intranet.wilderness.org.au

2 packets transmitted, 2 received, 0% packet loss, time 5057ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.262/0.286/0.310/0.024 ms

The issue i am having is that i am not getting prompted for
authentication to the LDAP server.

..There comes a time when the operation of the machine becomes so
odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part, you can't
even passively take part; and you've got to put your bodies upon the
gears and upon the wheels, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to
make it stop, And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, the
people who own it, that unless you're free the machine will be prevented
from working at all.. - Mario Savio (1964)

[Bug 219786] Re: Hardy 64-bit RC ata frozen

2008-09-30 Thread jafa
This looks to be a kernel bug in Hardy...

Hardy worked ok with my older 500GB SATA drives for about 4 months...
just upgraded to faster 1.5TB drives.

With the new drives Hardy would freeze for 20-30 seconds and report ata
frozen in the log each time. When watching a 1 hour TV show in mythtv
the problem would occur every 10-20 minutes. Same machine, same OS
install (disk copy to the new drives).

Disabling native command queuing did not fix the problem.

In frustration I installed a stock 2.6.26.1 kernel using the Ubuntu
config file. Problem solved!

Exact error message from the kernel log:

It seems that evolution still downloads emails as I sayd in my second post.
Maybe I will try to test this issue in Intrepid as you say but I don't
understand why many bugs are resolved in Intrepid and not in Hardy. Isn't this
last a LTS distro which should have additional stabilization
(http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/releases)?
The consistent way should be to resolve bugs first in LTS and not in newer non
LTS, still alpha, distros.
