[Bug 285319] [NEW] Nonfunctional USB ports during boot with AverMedia DVB-T dongle
Public bug reported: 1) Ubuntu Intrepid Beta 2) Current kernel - see the attached logs 3) When USB dongle of AverMedia DVB-T is plugged in notebook IBM (Lenovo) Z60m before boot or restart, all usb devices are nonfunctional. [Bug 256086] Re: Cannot remove a Thunderbird RSS folder
I am re-opening this bug. I've been adding more RSS feeds with normal- looking titles, and several of them exhibit this behaviour: When I initially try to subscribe, Thunderbird displays Verifying feed but never gets past that. If I try to cancel and it asks me if I'm sure, the yes/no choice doesn't affect the outcome. A broken folder is created, often with a name with numbers in it, that you can't delete, and the folder is empty and does not receive new RSS items from the feed. For me, the following feeds have this behaviour (so far): http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper_beta/rss/ http://rss.cbc.ca/lineup/topstories.xml To contrast (if you can detect any difference) here are some feeds that do work: http://www.projectcensored.org/feed/ http://www.democracynow.org/democracynow.rss http://indymedia.org/en/main-features.rss http://feeds.feedburner.com/Engrishdotcom This behaviour is consistent and a little aggravating for an otherwise acceptable aggregator. ** Changed in: mozilla-thunderbird (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- Cannot remove a Thunderbird RSS folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/256086 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 285327] [NEW] 802.11n (ath9k) intermittently hangs system
Public bug reported: Applies to: Ubuntu intrepid (development branch) Release 8.10 (2.6.27-7-generic) By hangs, I mean that the screen goes all one colour (blue or black normally), and I can’t switch to a pseudo tty, and can’t toggle num/caps lock keys on keyboard. Requires reboot, and frequently a hard reset (power down, wait, power-up( Initially, the system would hang very shortly after configuring the connection. (Good news is, that I was able to create the connection, associate with the AP, and do limited browsing / download, before the system would hang.) I discovered that the hangs got a lot less when I installed the Nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 177) using the Hardware Drivers wizard. The system would not crash at all, as long as I didn’t try to configure the network. I later discovered that the crashing became less frequent when I configured the router to support a wide (40MHz) wireless-N channel. With the router supporting a single, 20MHz, channel for wireless-N, or in B/G mode only, the server would crash quite frequently. Configured with a wide wireless-N channel, I can now often work for an hour or two before the system freezes. I was even able to install the 325 updates that the system reported when I first connected to the internet. More frequent when router is configured for single (20MHz) channel, or BG only, than n with 20MHz channel For me this is the one bug that matters…. Kubuntu really needs to support at least one wireless-N PCI card (I’ll buy which ever one it is!) very well – without crashing and with very high throughput – for me to use the OS. Motherboard: Asus M3N78-VM (BIOS v0702) Chipset: Nvidia GeForce 8200 (VBIOS 62.77.2f.00.00) 512MB RAM Memory: 4GB (2 x OCZ 2G DDR2 PC2 6400) CPU: AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 64bit AM2 2MB Disk: Seagate 1TB SATA II 32MB CD: SAMSUNG 22X INTERNAL SATA DVDRW BK Since this server is meant to do media streaming, and it’s location doesn’t easily let me use wired Ethernet, I purchased a D-Link DWA-552 (Atheros AR5008) 802.11n PCI card. I chose this card after much googling to determine that it is one of the most widely available and inexpensive 802.11n cards that has a native Linux driver (ath9k). ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- 802.11n (ath9k) intermittently hangs system https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 285334] [NEW] missing japanese kanji in font 'Monospace'
Public bug reported: Hi, This bug is related to #149348. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/149348 I already reported to KDE/KWrite, but was told to report here instead. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172638 Here is my issue: Description: Opened: 2008-10-12 10:09 Last Changed: 2008-10-13 21:08:56 Version: 4.5.9 (using 3.5.9, Kubuntu (hardy) 4:3.5.9-0ubuntu7.1) Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.24-19-generic Hi, When I use the font 'Monospace', the kanji (絵) is missing. It draws as a square with black border and transparent fill -- a generic missing character image. See the Wiktionary page here: http://li.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E7%B5%B5 I noticed I can see it inside my Firefox browser, but the app title (drawn by KDE libs) draws the kanji as a square when you open the Wiki page above. Try to copy and paste the kanji into KWrite to replicate. I cannot find another fixed width font that has this kanji. I only know courier, and it doesn't work there either. This bug report may appear misdirected, but I don't know how to file a bug for a font missing a character. Apologies in advance! Otherwise, KWrite and KDE is dandy. Thanks for your hard work. I appreciate it! Kind regards, Kevin Connor Arpe Comment #1 Matthew Woehlke 2008-10-13 21:08:56 As you note, this is most likely not a kwrite bug, nor even a KDE bug, and further may be no bug at all. I suggest taking this to your distribution's support forums; most likely, you are simply missing a font that provides kanji, or possibly fontconfig is misconfigured. Your distro will be better able to guide you to ascertaining if there is truly a bug. Worth mentioning is that I am able to see/use 絵 (and indeed, many other kanji) in kwrite without trouble. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- missing japanese kanji in font 'Monospace' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285334 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 270303] Re: firefox (intrepid): your browser has been updated and needs to be restarted
I, too, have been experiencing this bug since upgrading to Intrepid last weekend. It seems the restart flag is stored in the firefox home directory. (Due to issues I had with an older version of firefox 3 (haven't had time to test this in intrepid), it kept hitting the hard disk after each page so I keep a copy in /dev/shm/ once at each boot). I understand that deleting my entire home directory and starting from scratch would likely work, but I don't like to go through the hassle of migrating bookmarks, cookies, saved passwords, etc. In my opinion the bug here is that the restart flag should not be getting saved in my firefox home directory, rather it should depend on whether you upgraded while firefox was open. I don't want to sound like I am trolling by suggesting this, but I personally think this banner will lead to a few really slightly irritated users for a few additional reasons: (1) Restarting firefox does *not* save your session. it does not pop up with restore your session and selecting Last Session from the session manager menu chooses an older session. A temporary workaround for the intrepid release would be to have the Restart button run killall -9 firefox as that does save my session and therefore is much preferable. (2) The popup appears after a seemingly random number of seconds. This causes everything on the page to shift around. My understanding is that the intent is to be annoying but making the browser unusable by waiting almost exactly the amount of time it takes me to click on a search result is pretty annoying IMO. I don't know what would cause this to happen but my suggestion is to fix this below the bottom-most toolbar so it doesn't keep opening, closing, and moving around (3) The popup has a close button even though it will reopen after you close it (and remain open in other tabs) This is likely to lead to user frustration. As you can see I am personally not very happy about this change. I can understand you had reasons for adding this annoying nag banner (I remember personally experiencing blank windows in FF 2.0 due to an upgrade), but it was at least usable until I finish reading whatever tabs I have open). But if you fix any one of these issues, or the root cause of being stored on a per-user basis (as Roger says), I would consider this problem solved. -- firefox (intrepid): your browser has been updated and needs to be restarted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/270303 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 285335] [NEW] tpm-tools package wrongly depends on GTK-X11
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tpm-tools Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1 Release:8.04 Trying to install tpm-tools 1.3.1-2ubuntu1 on an Ubuntu Server installation tries to pull in large swaths of GTK and X11 related packages even though those tools don't have any graphical components at all. As far as I can see the main reason is that it wrongly contains libgtk2.0-dev in Build-Depends. In fact the only mention of GTK in the whole source tree is in the control and dsc files and in the changelog. I have confirmed that removing libgtk2.0-dev from Build-Depends and rebuilding the package results in a working package. (P.S.: The only related package that conceivably *could* depend on gtk would be libtspi1, which is built from the trousers source package. [Bug 281580] Re: [Intrepid] New Bluetooth Wizard fails to pair with Apple Keyboard...
I have removed Mactel support from this bugreport, because it's not related to Apple devices only. I have Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse with the same problem. And - NO problems with older Ubuntu having hidd. Just type hidd --connect AA:BB... and everything works (forever). New wizard behaviour: - Connect device - Mouse works - Inactivity for few minutes - Disconnected - Try to pair again, pairing failed, which is displayed immediatelly, without even trying. I consider this critical and I believe this should focus on reenabling hidd as the new stack seems to be buggy for advanced users. Really - can it cause a lot of pain to beginners if they have hidd? [Bug 258073] Re: liveCD doesn't boot to gnome
I was able to figure this out after installing debian lenny. Can confirm that is a problem with rtl8180 that ships with 2.6.26 onwards and NetworkManager (currently running 0.6.6-2). Dropping into runlevel 1 and doing /etc/init.d/network-manager start causes the system to halt. If I do rmmod rtl8180 and then start network- manager, then the system runs fine. After modifying /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist and blacklisting rtl8180 and then booting normally works and the wireless card works with ndiswrapper. [Bug 234185] Re: Alternate CD cdrom-detect.postinst does not consider USB flash drive/key.
Untested patch. This will give USB disks precedence over CDs and search all inserted CDs for an Ubuntu image, failing with cdrom-detect/wrong-cd if none of the inserted CDs contain a valid CD image. Previously, cdrom-detect would go to cdrom-detect/wrong-cd on the first CD it could mount, rather than checking to see if there were other CDs with an Ubuntu image.
