Re: [Bug 286290] Re: upgrade process hangs

2008-10-20 Thread Henning Sprang
On Mon, Oct 20, 2008 at 1:51 PM, LaMont Jones [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
 Which version of postfix are you seeing this in?

Sorry for not giving this info - it just happened on the upgrade from
2.5.1-2ubuntu1 to  2.5.1-2ubuntu1.2, on hardy.

But while testing further, I realized that I also couldn't just go
back to the *1 version.
Removing the package completely, and just simply installing it again
worked fine.

Now, postfix's debconf data looks like this:

* postfix/mailname: filet.lazy
  postfix/tlsmgr_upgrade_warning:
  postfix/recipient_delim: +
* postfix/main_mailer_type: No configuration
  postfix/retry_upgrade_warning:
  postfix/kernel_version_warning:
  postfix/relayhost:
  postfix/procmail: false
* postfix/bad_recipient_delimiter:
  postfix/chattr: false
  postfix/root_address:
  postfix/rfc1035_violation: false
  postfix/mydomain_warning:
  postfix/mynetworks: 127.0.0.0/8 [:::127.0.0.0]/104 [::1]/128
  postfix/destinations: true, localhost, localhost.localdomain, localhost
  postfix/not_configured: 1
  postfix/mailbox_limit: 0
  postfix/protocols: all

The diff being

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/hier/produktion/tmp$ diff postfix-before.txt
postfix-after.txt
1c1
   postfix/mailname: filet.lazy
---
 * postfix/mailname: filet.lazy
4c4
 * postfix/main_mailer_type: No configuration
---
 * postfix/main_mailer_type: No configuration
9c9
   postfix/bad_recipient_delimiter:
---
 * postfix/bad_recipient_delimiter:
15c15
   postfix/destinations: filet.lazy, localhost.lazy, localhost
---
   postfix/destinations: true, localhost, localhost.localdomain, localhost

(which might be not 100% exact, as some of the differences might be
due to the fact of me playing with the settings to persuade postfix to
get installed)

I also messed with the postfix.config file a bit, but to no useful effect.
So it's probably unclear whether the error is really caused by changes
in postfix or by changes in general debconf handling code (e.g. the
perl helper libs?!)

[Bug 286643] [NEW] bacula client configuration is broken out of the box

2008-10-20 Thread D. Scott Barninger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bacula-client

Hello,

I am a member of the bacula dev team, my role is rpm packaging. I
recently installed Kubuntu-8.04 on my daughter's machine (I have bacula
running on my local Kubuntu-8.04 server). When installing the bacula
client package I spent some minimal time this past weekend figuring out
why your package does not work out of the box as it were. The client
was available on the localhost but not available on the network. To put
it simply, someone has apparently decided that packaging should address
security concerns, and thus your package configures the client to listen
only on localhost. While this might be apparent to me or other
developers on the bacula project, it is not, most likely, apparent to
the majority of users and we do not want this to reflect on the bacula
project as a whole. We, as an upstream dev team feel that these concerns
should be relegated to firewalls, etc. and not to individual
applications. Thus we consider your packages broken. Please include
[EMAIL PROTECTED] in any replies. Thanks in advance for your
consideration.

Regards,
Scott

[Bug 286243] [NEW] intrepid: screensaver comes up ... but then doesn't

2008-10-20 Thread Bernhard Koenig
Public bug reported:

I have made the following observation in intrepid: after 10 minutes of
idle time, the screen saver comes up, the screen goes slowly blank ...
but then it goes back to the previous screen, so the screensaver fails
to activate (even though it started to activate itself, but then goes
back to old screen).

Sorry for this hand-waving description, but I don't know how else to
describe it and I think it's really an issue in intrepid.

you can find old builds of xserver-xorg-core by following the links for
your architecture at the bottom of

and finally

[Bug 248769] Re: Incorrect screen positioning when using multiple displays (TwinView)

2008-10-20 Thread dynamotwain
Ah, good to hear. I didn't know about a rewrite, and normally one
expects to find the latest bleeding edge code in trunk. I haven't been
following or using AWN until just recently when I got Openbox to work
properly with shaped windows like AWN uses.

I just took a look at the 'trunk-rewrite-and-random-breakage', and it
looks like the positioning fixes would be relatively straightforward and
much cleaner.

Basically, all Neil would have to do is add 'x' and 'y' properties to
the AwnMonitor, move all the monitor-related stuff from AwmSettings to
AwmMonitor, use x,y in awn-window:position_window.

The strut related code looks like practically a drop-in replacement,
although it'd need generalized for all four edges.

Everything else is probably irrelevant to the new branch; if I had
known, I would have based my patch against it.

[Bug 205272] [NEW] kubuntu-kde4 install boot option fails

2008-10-20 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Setup:
 Dell Vostro 1500, Core 2 Duo, 2G RAM, SATA HDD
 Attempting to install Hardy Beta, Kubuntu-KDE4 (20 Mar 2008)

To save someone 5 minutes of head scratching, I'll repeat: that's KDE4,
not KDE3.

Note: I experienced this same behavior while trying out Hardy Alpha 6,
Kubuntu-KDE4

Note: This bug is different from
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/205248 because I choose a
different initial boot option, although they're probably related behind
the scenes (at this point).

Background: This is a fresh beta download (iso from 20 Mar 2008,
downloaded 22 Mar 2008), written to a CD-RW disc.

Symptom: Install Kubuntu KDE4 fails to logon, halting halfway through
flashing the first HDD icon during the desktop-login splash screen.

Steps to reproduce behavior on my system:
1. Boot from CD (F12 on my system, choose CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive)
2. At boot splash screen, hit Enter once to choose default language (English)
3. Select the *second* boot splash screen option Install Kubuntu KDE4 and hit
Enter.
4. Wait 90 seconds or so, and KDE fails to finish logging on to the desktop,
pausing in the middle of flashing the first HDD icon during the desktop-loading
splash screen. The CD drive stops spinning, and nothing happens.

Workaround:
1. Hit Ctrl+Alt+F1
2. $ sudo startx -- :2

After another minute or so the second X session finishes loading and is
usable.

However, I think this is the wrong behavior. At the point someone has
elected to Install Kubuntu KDE4 from the boot prompt, I think the code
path should forget about booting to X and go back to the old text
installer, similar to the current Dapper install process.

Re: [Bug 281126] Re: Can't move window from one desk to another

2008-10-20 Thread Nigel Wakefield
I am not sure which effects you are referring to.

One of the first changes that I made after installation ( at the beginning
of this month from a disc supplied by the University of KZN) was to increase
the number of workspaces from two to four. As four is the default number
there would seem to be an error there. Also I suspect that the problem is
that all the workspaces are numbered 1 so the dragging does not recognise
that there is more than one workspace, even though all the workspaces are
useable as normal.

Apart from the wallpaper and screensaver, I can't think of any other changes
that I have made

thank you for taking the time for a timly reaction and helping to make

connect to the bt keyboard.
i don't recall how i got it to work but it was a hack.

we were wondering if you still were maintaining hardy, but if it is
still a concern for you, please ask for details and you may get answers.

btw, beacause of other kernel related issues with hardy i will
certainly upgrade to 08.10 as soon as it gets released. not before.

[Bug 284000] Re: Automatic update on 15th October 2008 caused my soundcard to stop working (Dell Inspiron 1525)

2008-10-20 Thread genny
Hi

I'm having the same problem with a dell inspiron 1525 running ubuntu
8.04. It works fine until I do the updates, after which I lose the
soundcard settings (and it doesn't seem to know it's got a soundcard any
more) and the wireless network. I'm just about to ask DELL ubuntu
support to see if they can help - presumably this is affecting everyone
with this laptop doing these updates.

In the meantime, what are the risks in leaving it without any updates,
or does anyone know which of the 1,000-odd updates will cause the
problem, so I can uncheck that box before updating?

Ta

Re: [Bug 127711] Re: network-manager does not really deactivate ipw2200

2008-10-20 Thread fishor
Other argument: ipw2200 hase this issue becouse it do not support
hardwarescan. so it should be done by CPU. ipw3945 use hardware scan by
default, and wie should probably do not bother about CPU any more. See:

linux-2.6/drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/iwl3945-base.c:

7875
/* Disabling hardware scan means that mac80211 will perform scans
7876 * the hard way, rather than using device's scan. */

7878 IWL_DEBUG_INFO(Disabling hw_scan\n);
7879 iwl3945_hw_ops.hw_scan = NULL;

the question is: haw are this things done by software mac80211 scan?

[Bug 273727] Re: gspca does not compile anymore

2008-10-20 Thread Mario Sitz
I have still green bars with the x64-version and kernel 2.6.27-7.
I tested with camera and it can't get the available resolutions.

With the 32-bit version I get an image with the same webcam.

[Bug 259631] Re: Can open Private directory after a reboot

2008-10-20 Thread Rune Evjen
Dustin,

ecryptfs-unwrap-passphrase ~/.ecryptfs/wrapped-passphrase [LOGIN_PASSPHRASE]
(with my actual login password) returns
Unable to read salt value from user's .ecryptfsrc file; using default

Clicking the link in ~/Private after this does not mount the directory,
and the commands mount.ecryptfs_private and ecryptfs-mount-private
