[Bug 300221] [NEW] Add Recommends: keyutils to smbfs

2008-11-20 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smbfs

Looking at smbfs 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3 in Intrepid.

Samba's CIFS kernel module (as invoked via mount.cifs(8), in smbfs)
makes use of the kernel's new request-key infrastructure, but there is
nothing at the package-description level to indicate the critical
relationship with the keyutils package.

Given that /sbin/request-key et al. is required in order for certain
shares to work at all (notably, those with DFS components, which at a
minimum need the dns_resolver upcall key), I think a strong (if not
absolute) dependency should be noted.

** Affects: samba (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

Add deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tcarrez/ubuntu intrepid main to

Then sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade
Confirm that you are testing 3.2.3-1ubuntu3.1~ppa1

[Bug 300108] Re: during postfix installation i am getting debconf: DbDriver config: /var/cache/debconf/config.dat is locked by another process

2008-11-20 Thread jbaych
New box with Ubuntu (I used desktop version for a test purpose). Fully updated.
No tools, no upgrades. Only terminal was running. First I installed MySQL using
command line:
sudo aptitude install mysql-client mysql-server

And after that I started postfix installation also with the command line:
sudo aptitude install postfix postfix-mysql

and I got the window which was not responding and errors which I reported. I
just quickly reinstalled the box, started postfix install and the same error
occured again.
3rd quick reinstall, update. At this time I used Synaptic Package Manager.
Installed all the apps without any problems. Probably, it does not like command
line any more...

[Bug 251469] Re: samba nightmare

2008-11-20 Thread codeslinger
I am disappointed by the lack of response to this bug.

But I am happy to report that after several months of automatic updates,
I happened to notice that samba had finally and mysteriously started to
work... with no changes on my part.

So somebody somewhere fixed something. And for that I am grateful.

As far as the crash which results from the missing config file, since
this is not a normal use scenario and since nobody seems interested in
this bug anyway, I am going to go ahead and close this.

The bottom line for me is that samba works now with win98, win2k, and
win XP.

And the fact that it started working on it's own is proof that I did
have it configured properly.

I was going to close this bug but I don't seem to be able to do that...

[Bug 300151] Re: ssh slow during logon, when ENTERING INTERACTIVE SESSION

2008-11-20 Thread ichudov
I think that I have a track. Based on similar su problems, I decided
to explore the possibility that it is the fault of dbus. Based on
results below, I believe it to be the case and I reassign this issue to
dbus. Restarting dbus fixes this issue.

So I did:

1) time how long ssh to localhost takes:

==time ssh localhost date
Thu Nov 20 22:55:54 CST 2008

real0m0.248s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m0.004s

2) Restarted dbus as root:

root:~ ###/etc/init.d/dbus restart
 * Stopping System Tools Backends system-tools-backends
   ...done.
 * Stopping bluetooth
   ...done.
 * Stopping Hardware abstraction layer hald
   ...done.
 * Stopping system message bus dbus
   ...done.
 * Starting system message bus dbus
   ...done.
 * Starting Hardware abstraction layer hald
   ...done.
 * Starting bluetooth
   ...done.
 * Starting System Tools Backends system-tools-backends
   ...done.

(this killed gnome-panel and stuff also, no biggy)

3) tried ssh again:
==time ssh localhost date
Thu Nov 20 22:56:06 CST 2008

real0m0.268s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m0.008s

So restarting dbus fixed this issue.

[Bug 248505] Re: system freeze: drm:i915_wait_irq

2008-11-20 Thread LeO
Sorry, but I do not see the issue fixed. I have updated the version
recently, and for one game, namely Supertuxkart the issue is fixed. But
for the others the issue remains, although in a different way. i.e.
launching Supertux2 makes the screen completely weired and the game
cannot played, cause the content is not recognizable. I have seen it as
well for other games. I believe it has to do with the changed screen-
resolution.

Yes, the system freeze is fixed, but the games are still unplayable. And
opening another Bug means waiting again long time till anybody reviewed
it. AND would just mean to have statistical improvements for Bug-
reporting and not improvements in usage of Ubuntu.

I see a fix which solves a situation completely and not only partial. A
partial fix is not really a fix. If there is anything of Logs which
should be provided again, I can provide them. But now, please tell me
which Logs you are looking for (and how to retrieve them).

2008-11-20 Thread Gerard
Thierry Carrez wrote:

It's theorically containing the same fix, but we need the source changes to
upload it (rather than a .deb).

Add deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/tcarrez/ubuntu intrepid main to
 /etc/apt/sources.list
Then sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade
Confirm that you are testing 3.2.3-1ubuntu3.1~ppa1

You can also download debs directly at https://launchpad.net/~tcarrez/+archive
 Thanks,

I used
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19559308/libsmbclient_3.2.3-1ubuntu3_i386.deb
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19559308/libsmbclient_3.2.3-1ubuntu3_i386.deb

I didn't know what to do with the .debdiff file I didn't have the time
to work it out (I had to get to work) - probably real simple.

the libsmbclient_3.2.3-1ubuntu3_i386.deb
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19559308/libsmbclient_3.2.3-1ubuntu3_i386.deb
worked with just a double click.

Cheers

Gerard

Printing them to stdout leads to problems like these:

Repro:

[Bug 299937] Re: korganizer filters doesn't work

2008-11-20 Thread Aldo xoen Giambelluca
OK, I will try to explain a bit what I think it should do.

I have some recurrent appointments, I want to filter these appointments
to make things less clear.

Steps I use for make a filter :
1) I click on Settings menu
2) then Manage filters
3) I click on the new button
4) I rename it my filter
5) I check hidden recurrents appointments and todos
6) Then I click OK

The to filter my appointments :
1) I click on View menu
2) Click on Filter
3) Then I choose my filter

What appens? Nothing
What I think should appen? Recurrents appoinments should be hidden and only
unfiltered appointments should be shown.

It doesn't work, so it is a bug (at least a usability one).

PS: I hope the UI text are all right because I use KDE in italian.
PPS: Sorry for my short bug report but I have internet only at university and
here I have enought time and relax to make things OK.

[Bug 296298] Re: hal does not reinitialize IBM Trackpoint on resume

2008-11-20 Thread arturj
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: hal

   merge key=input.x11_options.Emulate3Buttons type=stringtrue/merge
   merge key=input.x11_options.EmulateWheelTimeout type=string200/merge
  /match

to make my trackpoint work again. Before this was done by some
additional line in the xorg.conf file.

This new hal mechanism works until I do a suspend to ram. After resuming
the trackpoint stops working. Suspend to disk in contrast works fine.
+
+ I did some further testing and noticed that sometimes suspending and
+ resuming the system brings back the trackpoint functionality. So my

[Bug 277339] Re: Sound intermittently inaudible at boot with Sigmatel STAC9200

2008-11-20 Thread Thom Pischke
Just a bit of constructive criticism here. I don't doubt Mackenzie when
he says that there are likely multiple bugs. But I think that people
reporting a bug which certainly -seems- very similar on the surface
should be treated with respect. People reporting bugs should be
respectful, and people interacting with bug-reporters should be
respectful. It's not reasonable to expect non-experts to know that
multiple and widespread problems with sound in HDA Intel devices are all
unrelated. That said, the fix for me was the following:

sudo depmod -a
sudo update-initramfs -u
sudo reboot

original issue looked like something between apt-listbugs and update-
manager.

Thanks you for your time and don't hesitate to submit any new bug.

[Bug 31730] Re: JFS is flakey

2008-11-20 Thread Graziano
I am using jfs as my root filesystem from feisty (now on jaunty), and I
have not got much issues with the filesystem itself. I DO think this IS
NOT an issue with kernel or jfs driver. This seems much related to
userspace jfsutils AND/OR initscripts.

First: jfs mount option are very limited, and practically are always defaults
in fstab. I have experience once of a system where they have put noatime
options which is not allowed by jfs, resulting in a mount failure each reboot.
Second: on Jaunty (not experienced on Feisty, Gutsy, Hardy or Intrepid) the jfs
filesystem at boot needs ALWAYS to replay log, so what I think is that umount
does not flush journal to disk. jfs MUST be checked for me at boot. On my
laptop I had to disable check for battery power and enable fsck by default
regardless of battery.

[Bug 81854] Re: rdesktop locks keyboard

2008-11-20 Thread Mr. Mike
I'm seeing this, too. I have my sound set on Don't Play, I'm
connecting using the Cisco VPN 4.8.02 (was using 4.8.01 seeing the
same thing).

It almost always happens when I have shift and/or control and am moving
the cursor.

Once, I had to toggle to console to kill it, other times, it just hangs
and comes back, and once, I was able to kill it from another window
within X.

Theory: It happens when you send too many key messages while it is still
repainting the screen?
This is rdesktop 1.6.0, spawned by tsclient 0.150, running on Intrepid.
