[Bug 284572] Re: smbclient crashed with SIGSEGV in strlen()

2008-12-13 Thread geolr
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 264943 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/264943

I post here since we talk about smbclient here, and I feel it makes more
sense here than in the duplicate bug.

Same problem on my NAS, a Packard Bell Netstore 3500 device.

Fully patched Intrepid amd64.

I tried the -d2 switch which has among others these messages:
tdb(unnamed): tdb_open_ex: could not open file /var/run/samba/gencache.tdb:

I am asked for a password even though this is disabled on the NAS-
device. I hit Enter with an empty password:

[Bug 287256] [NEW] hardy ppc (ports.ubuntu.com) includes broken (old) openssh-client package which only generates comprimized keys.

2008-12-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The version of openssh-client included in hardy for ppc (from ports.ubuntu.com)
will only create compromised keys.
Additionally the version on ppc does not even include ssh-vulnkey.

On the ppc machine:

bbog...@ubuntu:~$ dpkg -l openssh-client | grep ^ii

an rlogin/rsh/rcp replacement

bbog...@aporia:~$ dpkg -L openssh-client | grep vuln

Here is the whole testing transaction for key generation on the ppc

2008-12-13 Thread Charlie Kravetz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a
bug in openssh.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at

[Bug 307773] [NEW] apparmor profile in hardy inhibits replication slave

2008-12-13 Thread Jeremy Jackson
Public bug reported:

When upgrading from a working replication slave setup in Gutsy, It fails
to start replication after upgrade to Hardy mysql-server-5.0 5.0.51a-
3ubuntu5.4

The default configuration puts slave relay logs in /var/run/mysqld-
relay-bin.* but there is no entry for this in
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld on Hardy.

I added:

  /var/run/mysqld/mysqld-relay-bin.* rw,

and did

/etc/init.d/apparmor reload

And re-sync'd the replication slave from the master, and now it's
working again.

 began to strike some of my friends who refused to upgrade XP SP2. I like
 UBUNTU. Have no experience on Hardy Heron. I have been installed for about 2
 days.

 It is installed on a 250 gig external portable hard drive.

 PROBLEM: (1) Every time I reboot or boot from turned off completely, I
 receive a bug notice.
 PROBLEM: (2) I receive continual notices on upgrades. I am not sure the
 long list of upgrades actually worked. But one of them registered an error
 attempting to install 1 update: linux-image-2.6.24-19-generic (Linux kernel
 image for version 2.6.24 on x86/x86_64 (Size: 17.0 MB)

 I am not a 64 computer user. It is a smaller AMD/intel Gateway Cinematic
 Widescreen. I am now using a Hanns-G HX191D 17X19 monitor and a usb keyboard
 and usb mouse. The built in monitor no longer functions but the XP SP2 is
 currently working beautifully (until Gates murders it next April!).

 Hope this helps.

It is identical for this 2 programs at least.

I think wxWidgets is the common dependency between them.

whatever is below (in this screenshot - cornerr of firefox window). It
covers even full-screen-top windows (like in example full screen mode in
said VLC).

[Bug 221119] Re: [gutsy, hardy, intrepid] Blank screen and (EE) intel(0): overrun on pipe B! on i945GM using intel driver

2008-12-13 Thread John O'Donnell

the Rev 0c controller works, the Rev 03 does not. The

Is there some internal FIFO configuration that needs adjustment, or a
timing of the first line fetch? Is this being worked on upstream?

[Bug 220006] Re: Sound Card Detected, but only headphone sound

2008-12-13 Thread ZaHACKieL
Hello everyone. snowball2050, I got a similar issue. Yesterday,
suddenly, Ubuntu had no sound in my Dell Studio 1735 laptop, even when
I've been working with dual boot Intrepid/Vista since I bought it like 2
months ago. I use Ubuntu 95% of the time. After seeing this audio issue,
I booted with Vista to verify if it was a linux problem or a general
problem...what was my surprise? I didn't get audio in Vista either.

To make it work in Ubuntu I turned on the Headphones as Line Out
option and the sound started to work. In Vista I deleted the drivers,
reboot and let the OS install the drivers by default...it workedbut
note that if , after that, I install the drivers downloaded from the
Dell webpage, I lose the sound again. I noticed that Vista detects
something connected in one of the headphones plug (Studio 1735 has 2
plugs) ...but of course nothing is connected.

So I agree with you snowball2050, the OS is mixing the channels with one
of the headphone outputs. You can read my complete story here:

[Bug 307652] [NEW] editline truncates at 64 characters in batch mode

2008-12-13 Thread Mark O'Donohue
Public bug reported:

In batch mode, if the input line is greater than 64 characters, the first 64
characters are lost.

In my case:

$isql-fb  test.sql

the input file of:

SET ECHO ON;
SELECT
  dt.*
FROM
  Table_10 t10
  JOIN (SELECT * FROM Table_10 t2 WHERE t2.ID = t10.ID) dt ON (1 = 1);

becomes:

SELECT
  dt.*
FROM
  Table_10 t10
N (1 = 1);

In the above the line :
  JOIN (SELECT * FROM Table_10 t2 WHERE t2.ID = t10.ID) dt ON (1 = 1);

became:
N (1 = 1);

This does not happen in interactive mode, nor does it happen with the version
of editline that is included in the firebird source distribution.

This also seems to have been reported and fixed for minix-editline here:

   http://vmlinux.org/jocke/blog/hacks/

I am still investigating, but this first came to our notice with trying
to run the python QMTest tests on the Firebird package distributed with
Ubuntu.

Editline version is the latest: 1.12-5 and a quick look on the Debian
package, didnt show any latter changes or bug reports.

General info:

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 7.10
Release:7.10

$ apt-cache policy libeditline0

  Installed: 1.12-5
  Candidate: 1.12-5
  Version table:
 *** 1.12-5 0

2008-12-13 Thread Didier Roche
Jean-Michel,

Please undertand also the Ubuntu release process and that we can't ship
a new version on a stable release, unless it fixes a very unusable
version.

Kdenlive 0.7 has been shipped few days ago intrepid release, far far
away from our freeze process were we only fix bugs. The same happened
for OOo 3.

Well… the road is opened for jaunty and I will take a look at it in the
few weeks coming.

PS: I must admit I do not appreciate the do it… or we will told everyone to
use debian…. Debian is great, but you use the marilla repos, not debian
official one (from which, kdenlive would be automatically merged into Ubuntu…)

[Bug 307607] Re: package ttf-mathematica4.1 4 failed to install: post-installation script terminated abnormally with an exit value of 1.

2008-12-13 Thread Norbert Bollow
Actually what the package does is that it tries to download (and then
install fonts from)
http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/systems/windows/general/file/MathFonts_TrueType_41.exe

This fails because the link is broken at support.wolfram.com: The server
now redirects to http://support.wolfram.com/

(Did the package maintainers discuss (before contributing this package
to the Ubuntu repository) with support.wolfram.com whether including

Thank you for your quick reply.

In fact I had just discovered that Feisty was no longer supported before
your email arrived. I am new to Ubuntu and I have 8.04 on my own PC -
the Feisty version is on a web-hosting site.

You might consider adding a short readme file to the normal
repository to advise people when versions are obsolete.

 Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

 For your information sources to old releases could be found at http

 unsupported release. Consider upgrading to gutsy.

[Bug 88746] Re: ehci_hcd module causes I/O errors in USB 2.0 devices

2008-12-13 Thread zasq
Okay, back from work again.
Sorry for the strange things I wrote/asked above. I now read a little into
ehci, ohci etc. in Wikipedia to understand a little better. And I installed
device manager and took a look into it. Could it be that the sub-version
Troy James wrote about is from Ricoh Co Ltd.? That is the only
non-AMD/ATI-thing I found. But is it related to usb?
Today things got worse: When I started my laptop this morning, both printer and
hdd-external drive crashed right away before even using them. At the same time
it is extremely slow, as if low on memory. Could there be a connection? Well,
maybe not.
So, I am attaching the lspci and lspci -vv and lspci -vvn outputs. And the
dmesg-output. In the latter are error messages like no agp bridge found,
aperture beyond 4GB, ata1: softreset failed (device not ready), ata1:
failed due to HW bug, retry pmp=0, some errors with ricoh-mmc, and then of
course the usb 6-1: device descriptor read/64, error -110, usb 6-1: device
not accepting address 2, error -110 and the I/O-errors. Of course, there might
be no connection between the different errors.
I hope someone understands what this all means and can help...
Thanks a lot!

[Bug 307658] [NEW] Problem with DVD burning

2008-12-13 Thread Leco
Public bug reported:

I am reporting 2 bugs, that are connected.

BUG 1 - Can't burn DVDs on Intrepid Ibex
I am using Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex.
I am trying to burn a DVD-R, with the following programs: Gnomebaker, Brasero,
K3b and Nero Linux 3.0.
In all of those i can't burn the DVD, it always gives an error.
The programs recognize the DVD drive, but not the DVD inside.

BUG 2 - Windows can't recognize DVDs burned in Hardy.
Before i updated to Ibex, i was using Hardy.
I could burn DVDs in hardy, and read them in Linux or in a DVD player.
But windows dont open those DVDs , it consider those DVDs as blanks.

[Bug 307657] [NEW] Please sync hardware-monitor 1.4.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main).

2008-12-13 Thread Alessio Treglia
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hardware-monitor

Please sync hardware-monitor 1.4.1-1 (universe) from Debian unstable
(main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
 - Christof Krüger's patch has been imported by upstream.
 - Unnecessary Build-depends has been dropped by Debian Maintainer.

Changelog since current jaunty version 1.4-1ubuntu1:

hardware-monitor (1.4.1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release
- Apply patch from Simon Wenner to fix Close button in About dialog
  (Closes: #475917)
- Apply updated German translation from Simon Wenner (Closes: #475920)
- Adds more checks on return values to hopefully prevent large memory
  leakage (Closes: #504484)

[Bug 110666] Re: [needs packaging] Vidalia

2008-12-13 Thread lubos
Yesterday i installed Tor, Privoxy and Vidalia on Ubuntu 8.04.
But Vidalia cant run its own Tor process, but on vidalia faq page i find how
attach vidalia to an existing tor process.
http://trac.vidalia-project.net/wiki/FAQ#ExistingTor
(when this trying, disable tor and vidalia)
open torrc (tor setting file)
$ sudo gedit /etc/tor/torrc
make new first line and insert:
ControlPort 9051
save.
Now start tor (as root) and than vidalia (not as root). After few seconds
vidalia is reporting Tor is running and yellow onion is changed to green.
(dont forget start privoxy or what you use)

[Bug 307652] Re: editline truncates at 64 characters in batch mode

2008-12-13 Thread Mark O'Donohue

The buffer in editline.c
  STATIC char* read_redirected()

is 64 characters long, when it get to the end of 64 characters it does:

if (p == end) {
size += MEM_INC;
p = line = realloc(line, size);
end = p + size;
}

So 'p' which is where it is writing the next character is set back to
the start of the line, not left at the end. The attached patch, bumps p
to next write position correctly.

if (p == end) {
int lengthSoFar = p - line;
size += MEM_INC;
line = realloc(line, size);
p = line + lengthSoFar;
end = line + size;
}

Cheers - Mark

[Bug 271987] Re: Trident Cyberblade XP2 on Toshiba satellite A25, cant set screen resolution higher than 800x600

2008-12-13 Thread NicholasHolmes
After trying loads of things for a day, the following (based on mpitch's
code above) worked for my Toshiba Tecra M1 with Trident XP4m32 graphics
(1024x768, 60Hz LCD screen). My problem was that i could not get the
option to choose a screen resolution higher than 800x600 (a common
problem, judging by the fora).

after re-installation of xserver-xorg so that computer booted into its default
(small screen) state, i:
1) deleted the last few sections of mpitch's code
2) changed the clock MHz to 63.5 (rather than 65.0)
3) adjusted the Modeline dimensions (and changed -vsync -hsync to -Hsync +Vsync)
4) added the Option PreferredMode 1024x...@60
I can't say which of these small changes were responsible, and i also
re-installed all the xserver-xorg packages again halfway through the above
process, 'cause it seemed to be failing, though all was well on shutdown and
restart - it restarted in 800x600, but i then had the option to change to
1024x768 in Screen Resolution.

thanks mpitch and good luck to others..
