Does it still work when you run 'sudo dhclient eth0' twice? This is what
failed for the bug submitter.

Thanks for the second dump, it's interesting to see that both show
pretty much identical dhcp responses.

2009-02-07 Thread marmuta
Here is a small patch for dhcp3-client 3.1.1-5ubuntu2 that fixes this in my
test setup.
The documentation states that REBOOT can be processed as BOUND, so this is what
I changed there. Before the routes were added only in the initial BOUND case,
whereas now subsequent REBOOT cases are covered as well.

[Bug 251160] Re: Mythbuntu CC fails to shutdown MySQL when adding primary server role.

2009-02-07 Thread Paul
Just did a dist upgrade to 8.10 so this wasn't retested. Since no one
else has posted any follow ups, maybe the problem was just due to a
unique abnormality in my system config.

Unless I need to wipe and start fresh it's unlikely I'll have the time
to set up a new install to test this out. But if I do I'll post a follow
up.

[Bug 326768] [NEW] mysql thinks it has crashed when it hasn't

2009-02-07 Thread Will Uther
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mysql-server-5.0

I'm running mythtv on jaunty with mysql-server-5.0 version
5.1.30really5.0.75-0ubuntu5. During boot mysql starts, then mythtv
starts, then mysql restarts and mythtv gets confused.

What seems to be happening is that line 387 (or 389?) of
/usr/bin/mysqld_safe is falling through when it shouldn't. mysqld_safe
is a script that starts mysqld and restarts it if it crashes. Here are
some relevant syslog sections:

Feb 8 12:35:07 willvo mysqld_safe[3668]: started

'/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' port: 3306 (Ubuntu)

Note that mysqld_safe is finds one mysqld process still running after it
is supposed to have crashed. mysqld_safe then kills that process and
starts another. This only seems to happen once during boot - it doesn't
keep restarting mysqld in normal use.

The problem is somewhat intermittent. I made it go away once before by
mysqlrepairing my tables, but they seem fine now. Debian bug 418648
looks somewhat similar but slightly different (and the fix they used
doesn't work for me).

My current fix is to replace:

$NOHUP_NICENESS $ledir/$MYSQLD $defaults --basedir=$MY_BASEDIR_VERSION --d
atadir=$DATADIR $USER_OPTION --pid-file=$pid_file --skip-external-locking 21 |
 $ERR_LOGGER -t mysqld wait

with:

$NOHUP_NICENESS $ledir/$MYSQLD $defaults --basedir=$MY_BASEDIR_VERSION --dat
adir=$DATADIR $USER_OPTION --pid-file=$pid_file --skip-external-locking 21 | $
ERR_LOGGER -t mysqld

in the mysqld_safe script (the second line has wait removed from
the end). This seems to fix the problem. I don't understand the
difference in semantics between wait and normal process
termination.

Will

[Bug 324925] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV when turning off show_desktop

2009-02-07 Thread marmuta
I have run apport-retrace locally now with the crash file of this
report. With all dependent *.dgbsym packages installed the backtrace
still looked as useless as the one I reported first. The system was
always freshly updated from the main repos too, so it seems unlikely
that any new report from apport would improve the situation.

I'll change the state back to new to get this bug out of stealth mode.

[Bug 292698] Re: upgrade to intrepid broke hibernate/suspend (2 tasks refusing to freeze) (nfs related?)

2009-02-07 Thread dilbert
Yes I confirm the reported behaviour.
kernel 2.6.27-11-generic latest
Gnome 2.24.1

every thing started when I put my nfs server in place, and here in
indonesia many times a day I lose my connection to my server (because of
blackout) and when I want to hibernate on my laptop without network
connection, gnome gets crazy with many handles spawned by gvfsd-trash
(as many as 10 for one nfs mount)

I have to reboot to stop the mess, no user interaction,
ctrl+alt+backspace let me relogin but no gnome interface, it freezes in
middle of the the desktop environment load.

well I changed my line in my /etc/fstab
FROM
serv64ub:/srv/nfs4/shared /home/shared nfs
rw,hard,intr,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,_netdev,users 0 0
TO
serv64ub:/srv/nfs4/shared /home/shared nfs
rw,hard,intr,rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,_netdev,users,noauto 0 0

so it doesn't timeout when no network at boot and only 1 gvfsd-trash
process runs

when no nfs are mounted, no problem at all gnome interface plays its
role as expected.

but at any nfs server connection(or mounted) loss , the whole gnome user
interaction is a pain as there unsustainable delay (more than 10 sec)
before accessing systems functions, like hibernate, halt, etc

Of course it is impossible to kill the incriminated processes and cannot
unmount the nfs mount even with root credentials. the only solution is a
dirty reboot as I cannot unmount cleanly my truecrypts volumes and close
some applications.

I cannot understand the library which is part of gvfsd-trash keep handle
on temporary network mount. we should have a flag somewhere to indicate
to gnome not to care about them as for usbdisk, I guess ?

any ideas for a fix ?

[Bug 172879] Re: Unable to skip network access during installation

2009-02-07 Thread db
i just tried to install ubuntu server 8.10. You cannot skip the
networking stage and then set the time. I assume as it wants to use an
ntp server. Can this be altered so that one can still set the time
without setting up networking ?

[Bug 175498] Re: minimised windows dissappear

2009-02-07 Thread bob
Why not install a fault tracker and reporter, with a follow-up repair
patch, in UBUNTU, as we old WIN XP guys dont know your language. Most of
the language used on report a bug has no meaning to me. All I know is,
I minimise a window, and it's nowhere to be found again, so I have to
reload it. dont ask me any tech question about this, as it will be like
Chinese to me. ALL automatic systems for correction of problems should
use plain English.

[Bug 326487] [NEW] [jaunty] fonts corrupts after a while

2009-02-07 Thread Jacob Emcken
Public bug reported:

After using the system for a short while fonts starts corrupting on screen.
I've reproduced this both with Desktop Effects enabled and disabled.

I'm not sure if this is actually trigged by the amount of applications
open... its really hard to tell what actually triggers it.

As soon as I Change Desktop background - Fonts - Details... and
change DPI its like the screen refreshes for looks alright for a while.

This is my graphic card (from lspci):
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated
Graphics Device (rev 02)

I've added the following to the xorg.conf inorder to get my external screen to
work:
Virtual 1680 1050

I'm using Jaunty:
Description:Ubuntu jaunty (development branch)
Release:9.04

I've attached some screenshots of the problem.

[Bug 325768] Re: Please upgrade evolution-exchange to 2.25.90

2009-02-07 Thread Andrew King
Hi,

Any reason this is Wishlist, my evolution was updated though jaunty
updates to version 2.25.90, but there is no corresponding evolution-
exchange package. Hence, at the moment I can't access my (work) exchange
account. The previous version (2.24.3-0ubuntu) is no longer in the
jaunty repos, so at the moment I don't have an easy workaround.

Andrew

Tried with radeon / radeonhd drivers, with an integrated Radeon 1250

I'm just surprised this bug is only rated medium, since like many
other people, my parents only use this computer for internet / mails,
movies and pictures, and loosing one of the three makes them a bit...

[Bug 326344] Re: compiz freezes on login as of xorg-server 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu2

2009-02-07 Thread zniavre
hello

Actual workaround:

1. Start your session
2. Go to terminal (ctrl+alt+F1) and kill compiz.real via killall compiz.real -s
KILL
3. go back to your session (ctrl+alt+F7)
4. remove /dev/nvidiactl (this will be regenerated next time you restart GDM)
5. start compiz

this does not work here (nvidia 173.xx.xx)
but i managed to start with metacity and setup indirect rendering with
fusion-icon .
then i restart the session compiz and gnome could start normally.

hav a good day

[Bug 225846] Re: Evolution 2.22.1 on Hardy can not send JPEG attachment

2009-02-07 Thread Ernie Canlas
Hi everyone,

I don't know if this could be the fix or it just works for me.
It turns out that my problem is with my connection settings.

Problem before:
Ubuntu 8.10
Kernel: 2.6.27-11-generic
Evolution 2.24.3
Using Gmail IMAP/SMTP
Connection: Modem/Router; PC has static IP.

Earlier I've tried to send e-mail w/ mp3(ring tone) attachment, about 250KB in
size.
Error: 'DATA command failed: Connection timed out: mail not sent'.
Receiving mail is ok; Sending mail without attachment is ok;
Googling the net to find for possible fix but no luck. Aside form that problem,
I also notice that few websites are loading too slow or just loading forever.

Checked on my interface card and I've noticed that my MTU was set to 1500.
I edit the interfaces file, set MTU to 1492 and reboot my computer.
Go back to the website that has a problem loading and it works fine now :).
Launch Evolution and re-create email w/ attachment, VIOLA!!! the problem was
fixed. :)

Good news for everyone. As of linux-image-2.6.27-11-generic 2.6.27-11.26 , it
seems that these lockups had gone.
I installed this kernel package on Jan29th, then rebooted the system with new

On Feb 1st, the RAID1 checks had passed without lockups on the system where
they were usually reported earlier (intel+ahci).

Hello gborzi,

I tried again and actually when I start kaffeine I don't have the DVB
option. Indeed, I just want to get DVB TV working, I don't need analog.

Maybe you are right, I should maybe simply not start the audio module.
Do you have an idea how to do that? Should I modify the source code? Where?

Thanks!
Regards,
Greg

 Hello Greg,
my device has a different USB ID than your, it's eb1a:2881. For this device
the em28xx-audio module is not automatically loaded, and when I manually load
it, i.e. sudo modprobe em28xx-audio, I get this in dmesg

 [ 1479.298364] em28xx_audio: no version for snd_pcm_new found: kernel

like you, but I don't have the line with em28xx-audio.c: probing for em28x1
non standard usbaudio. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think that em28xx-audio is
needed only for analog TV audio.
What specific problem do you have with audio? You don't have it in analog TV,
digital TV or both? If you miss it only in analog, this can be fixed with sox.
BTW, I tried the fix that disables the remote, and it worked. I
plugged/unplugged the stick 11 times, waiting for /dev/dvb to appear after
each plugging, and the keyboard didn't hang.

[Bug 151382] Re: nvidia with compiz and with dual core freeze

Hi!

This is probably obvious - if you want to apply the solution
permanently, just add the line

  echo 1 | tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/sched_mc_power_savings

to the file /etc/rc.local. But make sure you insert it *before* the
last line (exit 0), which you must not remove.

All the best,

[Bug 268502] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work (hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout)

2009-02-07 Thread Brian Rogers
The problem still exists on the very latest upstream kernel. I'm going
to bisect between 2.6.26 and 2.6.27, and report the bad commit to the
Bluetooth guys. Then it shouldn't be too long before we have a fix.

[Bug 326510] [NEW] Deskbar doesn't close when losing focus

2009-02-07 Thread Ahnfelt
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

(Ubuntu 8.10, deskbar version 2.24.1)

Steps to reproduce:
Open the Deskbar (button-style) window, then click on another window.

Expected:
Deskbar (button-style) window closing.

What happened:
The Deskbar window doesn't close, and stays on top of the newly focused window.

When using the button style search window, it would seem natural if it'd
close when it loses focus, just like the Main Menu applet does.

[Bug 269027] Re: No sound from Laptop speakers, but headphones. my solution

2009-02-07 Thread GregScott
I should have been more specific. I have the same problem - sound from
the headphones but not the builtin speakers. Editing the suggested
files with both

options snd-hda-intel model=mobile
and
options snd-hda-intel model=laptop

made no difference.

Next I downloaded and installed the driver suggested by regeshz and the
behavior is still the same. I can get sound from the headphones but not
the speakers.

2009-02-07 Thread Ahmed Faissl
I upgraded my system from Intrepid to the new Jaunty. the system hanged
as usual during restarting HAL, so I expected being asked to enter the
usual 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' which supposed to fail and enter the
dilemma again.. but when I entered it I surprised that everything is
fixed without doing any extras,, I recommend early upgrading to Jaunty
9.04 it works flawless with me :)

[Bug 323496] Re: An unfriendly error message is shown when failing to open a DVD.

2009-02-07 Thread John Steele Scott
This is a clean install of Jaunty.

Sorry about the versions, I got them from the wrong place. Looking at my
Debian changelogs, the versions currently installed are:

nautilus (1:2.25.4-0ubuntu1) jaunty
gvfs (1.1.5-0ubuntu1) jaunty

It happens every time on the two video DVDs I've tried. Both DVDs are
playable with mplayer dvd://0.

Restarting does not make a difference.

Re: [Bug 205356] Re: compiz.real crashed with signal 7

2009-02-07 Thread Christian Roessner
Crashed again, and during boot (after yesterday updates), without opening
 opera and/or firefox.
This time had to kill compiz from a tty in order to be able to finish the
 graphical boot.
 Very annoying.

I can confirm this since yesterday, too. Starting first time this
morning, I had to do the same tty stuff.

Cold it be related to the nvidia settings?
 I'm using a 173 driver (and not 180), on a GEforce 9500GS.

I am using the 180.x driver, so my guess: It has nothing to do with
173.x

[Bug 326516] [NEW] After login $HOME/.dmrc permission error window appears

2009-02-07 Thread launcspad
Public bug reported:

After login I have this message: User's $HOME/.dmrc file is being
ignored. This prevents the default sessin and language from being saved.
File should be owne dby user and have 644 permissions. User's $HOME
directory must be owned by user and not writable by other users.

Altough, the rights of my .dmrc file seems to be correct. If I rename
this file, and no more exists, the error message still appears, and
still the same.

$ ls -la .dmrc
-rw-r--r-- 1 myname myname 28 2009-02-03 11:05 .dmrc

I have found some solution here:
http://mihirknows.blogspot.com/2008/06/homedmrc-file-is-being-ignored-solved.html
But I don't want to chmod -R all my files. Earlier this bug appeared in barely
every distribution, and I used the solution linked, but then the rights of the
files were corrupt. Any other solution? Anyway, what causes this bug?
