[Bug 330138] Re: Ubuntu (8.10 with latest patches (patched on 16. Feb. 2009, 8.04.1 without patches) ignores filename cases on cifs-mount in an error-prone manner
I have tested connecting a smbclient 3.0.33 (gentoo) against a samba server 3.0.33 (gentoo) and it seems to ignore the case (lets me enter the dokumente folder, but it is able to retrieve the file then -- ignores case completely, what I also could accept). When I use mount.cifs (gentoo) and try to change to dokumente (the folder's real name is Dokumente) I get bash: cd: /mnt/blabla/dokumente: file or directory not found. Which I would like to be the behaviour of Ubuntu. Could this be a matter of the cifs-kernel-module's version? Can't check the exact version of the OpenSuSE 11.1 samba server, but http://en.opensuse.org/Samba/Versions_in_SUSE_products tells that it should be a 3.2.4 server. Re: [Bug 332338] Re: package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi Thierry, After I initially encountered that problem I realized what the problem might have been. I had assumed that completely removing and reinstalling samba would restore a default smb.conf, but I don't think it did, and I think that might have been why it failed. Is that the case? I think I manually deleted smb.conf and possibly the entire /etc/samba directory. Would that cause that problem? Anyway, I realized after I reinstalled samba and got that error, that it didn't recreate that file and/or directory, so I manually re-created it and got a smb.conf from another machine that still had the default one, and after that it worked fine. Perhaps the bug if there is any, is that the package should purge the smb.conf and re-install a default smb.conf when it is re-installed? I'm not sure... I'm really new to samba. I just submitted the bug report because it guided me to do it. Let me know if you still would like me to do the proceedure you asked me to do. I'd be glad to do it, but yeah, I'm pretty sure it was because I manually deleted smb.conf, etc. Thanks for looking into this, -David On Wed, Feb 25, 2009 at 5:37 AM, Thierry Carrez thierry.car...@ubuntu.comwrote: Could you try: sudo apt-get purge samba-common samba The retry installing samba by sharing your folder. [Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down
This bug is causing usplash to crap-out on shutdown and display a nice screen of vertical coloured lines, as reported in this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/301628 usplash shows the coloured lines at exactly the same time as the CIFS error messages are shown in shutdown. Taking splash out of the kernel boot line in the grub list file removes the graphical element of shutdown/startup and causes the CIFS error line to appear (rather than being hidden by usplash) - It doesn't fix this bug but at least the risk of damage to my screen is reduced. -- CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 332338] Re: package samba 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
David: yes, that would explain it. Manually deleting the smb.conf file after a removal, and then trying to reinstall the package, would fail. the proper way is to apt-get purge the package (which gets rid of smb.conf) before reinstalling. That said, this behavior is confusing and cause of several bugs, so we should certainly find a way of being a little more tolerant to that special case. I'll close this bug as Invalid but might open another one (wishlist item) on how to fail more gracefully in that case. [Bug 333542] Re: check_bug_pattern in report.py has a strange ProcCmdLine
I'm not quite sure what problem you're having in searching for loop= in ProcCmdLine, but the reported ProcCmdLine is wacky in any event; it looks like something has post-processed the ProcCmdLine and converted root to either 'User Name' or username. This appears to be true of bugs that are not related to the loopback mount root wubi failure in bug 252900. For example, in bug 324416, the description reports: ProcCmdLine: User Name=UUID=a1483b81-eff8-4ced-a0b3-ab8128355388 ro quiet splash but if you pull up the attached dmesg logfile at http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21907705/BootDmesg.txt you'll see that dmesg actually reported: [0.00] Kernel command line: root=UUID=a1483b81-eff8-4ced- a0b3-ab8128355388 ro quiet splash This is also true in your example bugs, bug 328189 and bug 329558. (Unfortunately, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bugs?field.tag=apport- package brings up a frightening number of likely duplicates of bug 252900) -- check_bug_pattern in report.py has a strange ProcCmdLine https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/333542 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 330601] Re: Appointment acceptance mail with wrong sender address poses Yes/No question, but only gives OK button
I am using 8.10 with Evolution 2.24.3. There about 1 Zillion ways to have another mailaddress. I'll give you some examples: First the one that drew my attention: Get an iPhone, attach it to an Exchange server and spell you mailaddress wrong in your account settings and accept an appointment. For the other examples let's assume the invited person has the mailaddress k...@kde.org and does also have access to an account k...@gmail.com (both accounts may exist, but are unrelated to me). There should be no SPF-check for the appointment creator for this to work; otherwise the mail may be rejected by the spam-filter. KMail: Use KMail to access the account k...@kde.org, receive an appointment, hit E and enter k...@gmail.com. Thunderbird: Get the mail-bounce-extension and bounce the mail to k...@gmail.com. Postfix: On the kde.org mailserver edit /etc/postfix/virtual and enter a line k...@kde.org k...@gmail.com Then do a postmap /etc/postfix/virtual; /etc/init.d/postfix reload Sendmail: Do the same with /etc/mail/virtusertable and then makemap hash virtusertable virtusertable Fetchmail: Fetch from kde.org and send to gmail.com Google-Mail: Go to Settings, Mail-Forwarding and enter ... eeh, ok, for this you have to do it the other way round and invite gmail and accept on kde.org Multidrop: Just create a multidrop mailbox and fetch from it. I think, you get the point. If you are still unable to get it working, just drop me a mail at my firstname@my lastname.de and I'll create a forwarder for you on my mailserver. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Jaunty Jackalope. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help. ** Changed in: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- j'avais un fichier ouvert sur lequel je travaillais, j'ai ouvert un deuxième et open office s'est planté https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/333981 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 289171] Re: compiz minimizes full screen apps every 5 mins
Unsetting Undirect Fullscreen Windows made it last a bit more, but I eventually got the same behaviour, and had to restart the session. We can confirm here that intrepid with compiz eventually pops out of fullscreen for all fullscreen games we have tested, including enigma and prboom, both in a 32 and in a 64 bit machines. This doesn't affect fullscreen of other applications like evince or texmacs. After it pops out of fullscreen, mouse and keyboard usability are unpredictable. Some times just clicking on the window gets the focus back to the game, which then works normally, but other times the game has to be killed or even a X restart is needed. -- compiz minimizes full screen apps every 5 mins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/289171 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 187313] Re: [MASTER] right click (with button release) might activate random popup-menu-item
I have the same problem as reported by Daniel with regard to the bookmarks menu. But this is definately NOT a moving the mouse isssue. How can I be so certain I use a Track ball if I take my thumb off the ball, the mouse pointer doesn't moove! So I will hover over the bookmarks menu item, left click to open it (to go to a specified bookmark), and I will be offered to save the page as a bookmark! This even happens when I have opened a new tab, so the page is empty. This only seems to happen the first time I click on the menu item, I am trying to open instances of firefox from the terminal with the -jconsole switch to get any debug info, but since I've been doing this it doesn't happen - is it an issue with having allready used the mouse click on a prrior occassion (as in my case) or already having another Screen dialog box opened? [Bug 334063] Re: enable composting in metacity by default
I subscribed Bryce Harrington, too. ~bryce, you were erroneously subscribed, sorry; please unsubscribe again if you want. compiz needs composite *and* 3D; I assume metacity+compositing only needs compositing? would it be sufficient to look for [3.078905] (II) Composite (RENDER acceleration) in Xorg.0.log? Is there a better way to detect compositing availability? I have looked at metacity compositing at the sprint, and it doesn't do a lot; basically, transparency and drop shadows. However, that might be enough for notify-osd, of course. My concerns here: * The _real_ problem is that notify-osd does not look good enough on metacity. This needs to be fixed eiter way, since there will always be drivers which does not support compositing (vesa, nv, all the old ones like cirrus, etc.) * Introducing metacity+composite at this point of the release cycle seems dangerous to me, since it will come with its own set of bugs, uncover compositing bugs in drivers, and thus lead to hardware support regressions. Thus this is an interesting option to explore for future releases, but I'd give my nack for Jaunty for this. -- enable composting in metacity by default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334063 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report you wish to submit. If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using /usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
