[Bug 201786] Re: ssh Agent admitted failure to sign using the key on big endian machines

2009-04-24 Thread Christian Albrecht
I have had the problem on my upgraded from Intrepid Jaunty installation.

It seems to be that gnome-keyring has a problem while reading my private
key in dos format (CR/LF). After converting it to unix format it works
like a charm.

I've used dos2unix (tofrodos package) to do the job.

I removed samba and reinstalled it. Works fine.

i was able to install samba just fine on kubuntu jaunty 64bit. could you
try and purge your current samba install and reinstall and see if that
 fixes the issue?

[Bug 366078] [NEW] likewise-open breaks all logins during/after upgrade to Ubuntu 9.04

2009-04-24 Thread Andrew Keyes
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: likewise-open

While upgrading to Jaunty, references to likewise-open are removed from
pam, causing a situation where it is impossible to log into the system
using either a domain or local account. The only work-around that I've
found is to boot into recovery mode and fix the configuration files for
pam by hand.

As my system has its screen locked while upgrading to Jaunty, I was
unable to unlock it, and was forced to reboot and manually resume the
install.

Hi !
I solved my problem by changing my home folder permissions :

Before :
rem...@nkbp:~$ ls -l /home/
drwxr--r-- 99 rems14 rems14 12288 2009-04-24 19:50 rems14

Now :
rem...@nkbp:~$ ls -l /home/
drwxr-xr-x 99 rems14 rems14 12288 2009-04-24 19:50 rems14

The soluce is to allow execute for all users by typing this command :
sudo chmod g+x,o+x /home/rems14

I don't know how I lost permissions and if it's a bug...
Thanks for help.

'Could not upload report to Crashdatabase

There was little I could do as my mouse had become inoperable and my
screen resolution had dropped back to 640*480.

Install now complete and Samba is not working
ran

Output is

try commenting out everything in /etc/network/interfaces except lo

2009-04-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Your bug report is more likely to get attention if it is made in
English, since this is the language understood by the majority of Ubuntu
developers. Additionally, please only mark a bug as security if it
shows evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries or to
directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any
other bugs you may find.

2009-04-24 Thread Jonathan Marsden
Thanks for reporting this, and so helping to make Ubuntu even better.

As far as i can tell, something about the configuration of your machine
apparently caused the scripts concerned to think your hostname was '04'.
This is not a valid hostname, since hostnames should start with a
letter.

Could you please attach copies of the two files /etc/host and
/etc/hostname to this bug report?

Thanks,

Jonathan

[Bug 322561] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 has a very slow / sluggish graphics stack.

2009-04-24 Thread Dean Mellas
I have confirmed that the sluggish graphics I reported here for Ubuntu
8.10 is gone in 9.04 today - specifically, the Java performance is
restored. Neither have I experienced the snowing effect, also
reported here.

So, I am unsure of the official way to close this bug report. There
is no fix in for 8.10, but the problem is gone in the new, 9.04
release. Hopefully, someone on this bug's watch list knows the proper
way to close it out.

I believe it is likely the result of the work on the graphics drivers
(see bug 288650), but one of the posters there has reported some
regressions in the last few days; however, those were in the daily
releases between the Jaunty RC last week and Final release, today.

[Bug 302485] Re: No persistence with USB Creator in Ubuntu 8.10

2009-04-24 Thread Max
After a few experiments, it seems like roughly 2047MB is the limit for
how big persistence can be set to (it's somewhere in between 1025MB and
2047MB, this much I can confirm; I just tried it with 1GB and it worked
after two failures with 2GB), if it's above that threshold it just skips
creating it (for me it just jumped from about 25% to done).

[Bug 365883] [NEW] jockey hangs indefinitely

2009-04-24 Thread James Strother
Public bug reported:

I'm running 64-bit Jaunty, fully-patched. I just tried to install the
nvidia driver (v. 180) after a fresh install, and the downloading and
installing box hangs indefinitely at 0% progress. Clicking the cancel
button does nothing. So I ran killall jockey-backend, then restarted
jockey-backend with the debug flag, and restarted jockey-gtk. I'll
attach the output of both. The jockey-backend process hangs after
printing the Installing package: nvidia-glx-180 after which I
interrupted the process. The jockey-gtk process outputs nothing until
jockey-backend is interrupted, after which it prints the attached.

[Bug 365881] [NEW] wubi installer's pyrun.exe says no disk

2009-04-24 Thread William Bass
Public bug reported:

The issue i'm having is with the initial installation.

I run Windows XP Home Edition on an HP Pavilion a656x with an added
video card and an added stick of memory. It has two optical drives,
drive E (a DVD/CD drive) and drive F (a CD drive).

Here is what happens...

1. I boot into Windows XP
2. I insert the Ubuntu 9.04 CD into drive E
3. I get a pop-up message window (from pyrun.exe) telling me that there is no
disk in drive F
4. My options are Cancel, Try Again, and Continue and the X to close the
little window
5. no matter what i click, the error message just pops back up.

if I put the CD in the Drive F, then everything happens exactly the same
except that in step 3, the message informs me there is no disk in drive
E.

So, whichever of my two drives i insert the CD into, the installer
complains that i don't have a disk in the OTHER drive.

In Ubuntu 8.10 (which I no longer have installed on my system), after I
inserted the CD, I would simply get a pop-up that presented 3
installation options (and I want to choose the 2nd one: install inside
windows)sometimes, if i keep clicking the various buttons randomly
like 50 times (Cancel, Try Again, Continue, and the little close
X)...I will eventually get the installation options.

[Bug 335955] Re: audio crackling with multiple streams, sometimes during simple mouse cursor interactions with gnome desktop - AC'97

2009-04-24 Thread David Rahrer
I get crackling, mainly from one channel, while for instance playing a
local or streaming audio file, and during that my IM (pidgin) sound
effect comes on. It will crackle during the time the IM sound plays,
then taper off.

I'm on Jaunty Release, 0.9.14-0ubuntu20. LSPCI attached.

FYI, this was not an issue for me in Hardy, and I kept Pulse installed
on that. I skipped Intrepid.

[Bug 283811] Re: cups says can't promp for authorization when printing to my samba printer

2009-04-24 Thread Simön
I tried your hint:

But you sure could try the workaround I presented, to change the following
line in /etc/cups/printers.conf:
AuthInfoRequired username,password
to become:
AuthInfoRequired none

But after the first print it is changed back to 'AuthInfoRequired
username,password'

In my case I noticed, that a Windows-machine indirectly asks for a
username and password when printing to that printer. (DeviceURI
smb://192.168.0.3/lp). My Windows-PC can only print on that printer, if
I add a network-drive on the same server that requires the same username
and password.

Maybe this can help somebody...

2009-04-24 Thread jean-baptiste

Hello,

I just upgrade my thinkpad t42 on jaunty and i have this problem. The 2D
acceleration is slow with EXA, especially with gecko application like
firefox or gnome-system-monitor. For exemple, if you reduce the firefox
windows, the desktop icon often take several second to refresh, or
moving the gnome-system-monitor windows on the desktop is very slow. The
other application like nautilus are less problematic, but i feel that
they draw slower.

-The fact to go back to XAA with the option 'Option AccelMethod
XAA' solve the probleme.

[Bug 365885] [NEW] random x server freeze (nvidia)

2009-04-24 Thread Zero
Public bug reported:

Many people have reported the random X freeze with put your card
here. I have been hunting down this bug in forums and making some
durability tests in my pc.

Ok the problem is very random yes it is very random, sometimes 5
min. after boot sometimes it can take up to 3 or 4 days to trigger,
however I have hunted down the flash player to trigger the bug quicker
than anything else, down to a couple of minutes of hd video playing in
flash might trigger the bug, so I am suspecting some video memory leak
(not ram but vram) somewhere in the X server or the driver, bug happens
with and without compiz enabled.

Most of times just the X server freezes however the mouse still moves,
also corruption is visible and many flickers on screen and the mouse
might freeze after. Some times the hangup is complete no SSH, sometimes
machine is accessible via SSH, and rarely switching to console is
posssible, however returning to the X server freezes completely the
machine.

Extra Info...
Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty (happened in intrepid)
Nvidia driver nvidia-glx-180 (happened with 177 also but less).
Video card Zogis nvidia 8500GT (the vbios reports 256mb but nvidia-settings
reports 512mb)
MoBo: Intel DG31PR
Memory: 2gb dual channel kit at 800mhz (there is no way to disable dual

[Bug 364970] Re: (0.1.16) Jaunty: Cannot allocate entire USB drive space for live-persistent-USB

2009-04-24 Thread Tokenekie
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 302485 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/302485

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 302485
No persistence with USB Creator in Ubuntu 8.10

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: usb-creator

Booting from: Jaunty daily-live (Apr 20)
  Package version: usb-creator (0.1.16)
  ISOs used: Jaunty daily-live (Apr 19, 20)

I am trying to create a live-persistent-USB on a 4GB USB drive (FAT 32) using
usb-creator. In the gui, I move the slider for persistence file space all the
way to the left so it reads 3.1GB allocated for saving system settings, etc.
When the program is run, using the above mentioned ISO's, usb-creator will exit
with a status of 0 right after it has finished writing the ISO files to the
usb. Therefore, the persistence filesystem is never written to the USB drive,
but the resulting USB drive is still functional. It is verified that USB is a
working, non-persistent live USB.

The peculiarity is that if I set the persistence slider to approximately
1.2 GB or below, the entire process works perfectly. The resulting USB
is a working, persistent, live USB with approximately 1.2 GB allocated
for persistency (or however much drive space I have specified in the
  gui).

I believe it is a bug that I am unable to allocate more USB drive space
  for persistency.

[Bug 362182] Re: Amarok 2 lost support for iPhone-like devices - Choice between 2 and 1.4?

2009-04-24 Thread Nico
hmmm

I did a compile from SVN, including that fix.

And the problem remains the same.

The ipod-convenience package does the fuse/sshfs mount, but that mount
is not declared/seen by HAL, so Amarok still does not check it, so no
iPod Touch/iPhone is seen by Amarok.

Amarok logs with the latest SVN including the fix:

[Bug 365881] Re: wubi installer's pyrun.exe says no disk

2009-04-24 Thread William Bass
forgive the mistake again...i am still not writing that last paragraph
clearly. The entire last paragraph of my original bug report should read
as below:

With the Ubuntu 8.10 CD, after I insert the CD, I correctly get a pop-up
that presents 3 installation options (and I want to choose the 2nd one:
install inside windows). With the 9.04 CD, however, i get this error
message box and, sometimes, if i keep clicking the various buttons on
the error message window randomly like 50 times (Cancel, Try Again,
Continue, and the little close X)...I MIGHT eventually get the
installation options. But sometimes I cannot get to the installation
options at all (in which case, i must actually restart windows to get
rid of the pop-up error message).

[Bug 365892] [NEW] Installer and media check fail to run with blinking cursor

Public bug reported:

I am unable to run the installer or media check from the Jaunty i386
desktop or i386 alternate installation CDs on a Toshiba Satellite
1135-S1551. When I select one of these options, the CD drive is accessed
for a second or two and I see a blinking cursor in the upper-left side
of the screen. Nothing further happens.

Running the memory check does work.

This is a regression bug, as the Intrepid i386 desktop install and media
check come up fine on this machine. I have also confirmed that the

[Bug 365893] [NEW] [G41][West Lake] Ubuntu 8.10, 9.04: System unable to detect display mode after S3 cycle and logout

2009-04-24 Thread David Chen
Public bug reported:

OS Version and Testing environment:
Ubuntu 8.10 - With pre-released kernel 2.6.27-14.33 (AGP fix) + Patched
xserver-xorg-video-intel driver
Ubuntu 9.04 - Fresh installed Jaunty final release

Environment used for testing:
System with Intel G41 graphic controller

Summary:
After suspend/resume cycle, if user logs out, system will not be able to detect
display mode, and prompts Ubuntu is running at low-graphic mode.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Power on the system and boot to the OS.
2. Enter correct username and password to login the system.
3. Put the system to sleep.
4. Resume the system.
5. Log current out - [System -- Log Out user -- Log Out].

Expected result:
Login window shows on the screen, waiting for user input.

Actual result:
Can't enter login prompt, but a message saying Ubuntu is running at
low-graphic mode.

Additional information:
* This bug is the continuation of LP#338598. Due to the lack of G41 support,
system couldn't detect the supported resolution.
* Pre-release intrepid kernel and patched xorg driver has corrected the
original issue.
* Both patches are in Jaunty final release by default.

[Bug 330811] Re: Can't connect to a hidden network

2009-04-24 Thread zdenek.zikan
Well, there is a workaround. But somebody perhaps forgot the Ubuntu's “Linux
for human beings” goal. People writing here are probably capable of using the
workaround. But we're talking about situation when somebody who is not geek
tries doing such a trivial thing as connecting to the internet (yes, in 2009) -
and he's lost. He doesn't know what to do, he cannot even look up the solution
here and because he's offline, he cannot download and install the
knetworkmanager or nm-applet. Great that we have release in time ... it's not
working but who cares. :-(
(Or is my understanding of the words “beta”, “release candidate” and “final
release” wrong?)

[Bug 364965] Re: Stable NVIDIA driver 180.51 released - please upgrade in Jaunty

2009-04-24 Thread Alex Murray
Thanks Philip. As Marc mentioned above, this is a killer bug for anyone
with a Fujitsu Celsius H270 netbook, so for anyone who happens to
install Jaunty on one of these machines and enables the restricted
nvidia driver, their machine will be bricked. Given this I think this is
definitely a good reason to push for an SRU.

I'll see about producing a patch to update the current package for
Jaunty.

Unfortunately, I can't really fulfill the other requirements of testing
it in the current development release of Ubuntu etc since at the moment
there is no development release (given Jaunty was just released).

Other than a patch against the current 180.44 package in Jaunty I can't
really do much else from what I can see, but am happy to do anything
else you can suggest to try and get the SRU done.

Firefoxs old notification is really annoying among this new one.

[Bug 356101] Re: apport-retrace: try older debug package versions

2009-04-24 Thread Martin Pitt
OK, both of these were retraced swiftly, but indeed there were several
packages which were newer on the master archive. Bugs are only rejected
that way if the resulting stack trace is totally unusable, i. e.
wouldn't give us any useful information for fixing the crash anyway.

Nevertheless, I keep this open, as a reminder to try to use older debug

[Bug 268502] Re: Bluetooth doesn't work (hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout)

2009-04-24 Thread Dominique Meeùs
Mine still does not work. This is a regression form 8.04 over two
releases 8.10 and 9.04. I wonder why the Bluez bug (filed more than six
month ago) is still considered New (through two releases), importance
undecided (decidedly important to me) and unassigned (I am not able to
fix it myself!)

[Bug 365895] [NEW] package ecryptfs-utils 73-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2009-04-24 Thread Book 'em Dano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ecryptfs-utils

Ubuntu 9.04
ecryptfs-utils 73-0ubuntu6

The / and /home directories are on separate partitions, and I began to install
Ubuntu 9.04 on the / partition via a live USB (created with Portable Linux);
the computer was near the end of the installation process (98%) when a popup
window appeared displaying this error: Error removing ecryptfs-utils:
subprocess pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

After closing that window, another window appeared displaying this error
message: E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

The following packages are in a broken state:

ecryptfs-utils

This may be due to using an old installer image, or it may be due to a
bug in some of the packages listed above. More details may be found in
/var/log/syslog. The installer will try to continue anyway, but may fail
at a later point, and will not be able to install or remove other
packages (possibly including itself) from the installed system. You
should first look for newer versions of your installer image, or failing
that report the problem to your distributor.

I'm experiencing it as well. When the applet is inactive, there is no

other panel applet. The only problem is that there is nothing viewable
where the applet is located.

[Bug 365823] Re: clamav-milter chowns root directory

2009-04-24 Thread Imre Gergely
Scratch that... I've just did a --purge on all clamav packages in
Jaunty, chown'ed back the root and etc directories to root, and
reinstalled clamav-milter 1.1 from -proposed and after that from the
main repo (1ubuntu1), but nothing happened, there was no chown'ing of
/root or /etc to clamav. Except for the /none file, but that comes from
the postinst script.

I also tried to redo the logrotate steps, by running the logrotate on
the broken clamav-milter config, nothing happened either.

Matt, if you could add a clear test case to this, if and how it can be
reproduced so I can check it again, that would be great.

[Bug 365898] [NEW] skim doesn't always minimize to system tray

2009-04-24 Thread Zorael
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: skim

Skim seems to have a nasty habit of refusing to minimize to the system
notifications tray. Instead, it launches itself in a detached window
containing only the icon itself. This is on a 9.04 Jaunty machine,
having installed the gold release a few hours ago.

If I forcefully shut skim down - via the right-click context menu,
killall skim, or xkill - it gets restarted automatically and again ends
up in a new, detached window.

If I, however, close it with alt+f4, it *disappears* from view yet runs
resident. The hotkeys still work, and if I right-click skim's panel that
pops up upon activating (via hotkeys) I can access the configuration
window, handwriting recognition via Tomoe, etc. The icon is lost though;
it's not in the systray, nor in its own window anymore. Forcefully
shutting it down again via those other methods makes it spawn a new
window. And yes, the System Tray Icon plugin (in skim's configuration)
*is* activated.

If I log out and login, or switch to a tty and restart X, or zap (after
having disabled DontZap in xorg.conf), it's still detached when I've
logged back in. It fixed itself when I rebooted a few hours ago, and
then returned now and won't go away, so chances are it'll fix itself
again if I do a proper power cycle. Which seems odd.

I'm not sure how to reproduce this; I've certainly had it since Gutsy
and KDE3, though I always thought it was because of Compiz, since I
experienced similar behavior with Adept's Update Notification icon. (It
detached itself but obediently docked with the tray if I closed it and
restarted it.)

I've yet to find a surefire workaround. It's something that just
happens by itself and then just fixes itself after a while, as if it
has to do with skim launching itself too early, before plasma has had
time to draw the tray notification applet, and then after some
days/weeks/months of use the system is somehow bogged down (after I
installed garbage), slowing its (skim's) startup down and eliminating
the issue. Alas, conjecture.

skim is set to use scim-panel-kde, config module: kconfig, and to start
skim automatically when KDE starts.

[Bug 365898] Re: skim doesn't always minimize to system tray

2009-04-24 Thread Zorael
Attaching my skim xinput.d file. Slightly modified to add XIM_PROGRAM,
_ARGS, and _PROGRAM_SETS_ITSELF_AS_DAEMON. Else xim stuff didn't work.
(OpenOffice, xterm, ...)

** Attachment added: /etc/X11/xinit/xinput.d/skim
