[Bug 375493] Re: tomcat6 needs debug start mode with jpda

2009-05-13 Thread Thierry Carrez
Passing arbitrary Java options is supported through setting JAVA_OPTS in
/etc/default/tomcat6...
So if you set:
JAVA_OPTS=-Xdebug
-Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,suspend=n
-Djava.awt.headless=true -Xmx128M
You should get desired behavior.

We could modify the init script so that JPDA_DEBUG becomes an option in
/etc/default/tomcat6.
Setting this to Wishlist.

Please also note that the tomcat6-user package allows to set up private
instances which sound more appropriate for development/debugging.

[Bug 375593] Re: cannot browse samba shares without editing smb.conf

2009-05-13 Thread Thierry Carrez
I guess something changed in your network (or DNS settings) in September
of 2008, that makes your host resolution fail. Like switching to a
smart DNS server like OpenDNS...

Could you run the following command on one of your share-containing servers:
smbclient -d 4 -N -L //servername
and attach the corresponding output ?

[Bug 368273] Re: Jaunty 9.04 Blind to XP's Shared Network Printer

2009-05-13 Thread Ed Comer
I will be unable to report further on the bug as I replaced 32-bit
Ubuntu 9.04 with the 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04 on the exact same hardware, in
the exact same environment and the bug is NOT present. With 64-bit
Ubuntu 9.04 I easily created a networked shared printer resident on a
Windows XP machine without incident. In fact 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04 works so
well that I don't know why I was previously sticking with 32-bit. The
reports in flash incompatibility, etc., have not proven to be true, at
least for me. I am quite impressed with 64-bit Ubuntu 9.04.

64-bit Ubuntu 9.04's apparent immunity to this bug is telling in and of
itself.

[Bug 373111] Re: Keyboard 'Custom Shortcut' does not retain environment

2009-05-13 Thread Cédric Jeanneret
Hello,

I discovered this one a bit later after I opened the bug.
Fact is, when we use another launcher than the default one (which has no tab
completion...) like gmrun, environment isn't kept as well... so it's not only
for custom shortcuts, and maybe it's the same problem source
(gnome-setting-manager).

Thanks for your answers. Should I post it on bugs.gnome.org ?

Regards,

C.

[Bug 320771] Re: [X1950] Vertical bands of interference around HW cursor

2009-05-13 Thread ar-jar
There is still a little flickering left in the
6.12.2.99+git20090508.76fdae90-0ubuntu0tormod_i386 versions. Not sure if
those are the latest and the greatest. I'm running an ATI Radeon
Mobility X1600 on a Compac nc8430 laptop with a fully updated Jaunty
(except for the drivers that are from Tormod's PPA).

As I mentioned above, the flickering comes when returning from
suspension and it disappears when I click once on the secondary screen.
I think the last fact should be a powerful clue to finding the last
little piece of this bug. I don't think this ticket thus should have the
status fix released.

Thanks! -A

[Bug 327284] Re: [Jaunty Alpha4] Bluetooth Headset pairs but freezes the system when used

2009-05-13 Thread thefluxster
Update: After several days of flawless audio, I suddenly started getting
an error message when I tried to run my command-line string. I would
instantly get a message telling me that the module had failed to load.
All versions of the packages were in order with this thread's
workaround.

For some reason, pulseaudio-module-hal got dropped from my system
during one of the recent Ubuntu auto-updates. It took me a long time to
figure out that this is what happened. After adding the module, I can
now use my commands as before and get audio to work again.

Hope this helps someone else out there...

[Bug 375830] [NEW] No wireless network after user switch and logout

2009-05-13 Thread fuzzyBSc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager-gnome

This appears to be the same as Bug 284162, however 284162 has apparently since
been hijacked by a different source problem altogether. Here are the steps to
reproduce:
Preconditions: User 1 and User 2 have credentials to enable access to the same
wireless network. No wired networking is present.
1. Log in as user 1 on a fresh system
2. Note that we are now connected to the wireless network
3. Fast user switch to user 2
4. Note that no network manager applet is visible
5. Switch back to user 1 and logout
6. Switch to user 2's session
7. Note that the network manager applet is still not visible, and no network is
available. Firefox reports that we are offline.
My workaround is:
8. Run nm-applet from command-line
9. Note that applet appears, and successfully connects to the wireless network.

Debug output from nm-applet from the command-line follows:
** (nm-applet:18225): DEBUG: applet_common_device_state_changed
** (nm-applet:18225): DEBUG: old state indicates that this was not a disconnect 0

1. you can monitor your fan speed from the thinkpad-acpi module: cat
/proc/acpi/ibm/fan
2. you can adjust the fan speed to stay on at full speed by executing the
following command as root: echo level disengaged /proc/acpi/ibm/fan

One I did that, the fan kicked up to 4000+ rpm and stayed there. The CPU
temp stays at 94C under full load and goes no higher.

For more info, see the following:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/How_to_control_fan_speed

Good luck!

YMMV, once per day here.

The problem here is, that 'we' don't know whether people are working on
it and also if there is anything 'we' can do to help. Please keep us
up-to-date.

Sure you can look for a different distribution, but as this bug is

The only thing to criticize here is that this showstopper was known
before jaunty was released, so IMHO it would have been worth delaying
jaunty (it now went through the press and might have caused more much
more damage).

I have compiled 8.4.3 from source and after some more work text_combotix.py

[Bug 334052] Re: Network Manager Plasmoid won't connect to WPA Enterprise AP's in Jaunty

2009-05-13 Thread apo
After configuring the connection secrets i read this in the logs:

May 13 08:04:29 -laptop NetworkManager: info Config: added 'ca_cert'
value 'blob://-org-freedesktop-NetworkManagerSettings-0-ca_cert'

This is not the certificate i specified in the connection secrets. It
should have been something like /home/user/cacert.pem

The access point i'm trying to connect to accepts connections with or
without the certificate. But a wrong certificate is not accepted.
Perhaps that is the reason? Full log enclosed.

Hi,
I suspect that this has to do with the fact that if you launch totem from the

To enable the compositing manager, you need to use the Configuration

Sorry for the question:
How would one start the AKA gconf-editor in order to check the box in the

[Bug 353098] Re: Cursor behaves oddly during logon (using Xinerama)

This is not a bug in the graphics driver -- the X server tells the
driver which screens' cursors to display, what they should look like,
and where to place them. If the cursor is appearing in the wrong place

itself.

2009-05-13 Thread Frederic Van Espen
I can confirm this happening on jaunty 32-bit. As soon as you have moved
out of the VNC screen, the local mousepointer will disappear when you
move back in.

[Bug 375800] Re: Evolution in Ubuntu 9.10 crashes

2009-05-13 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 352485] Re: X: NVidia 8800 GT not being initialized correctly

2009-05-13 Thread Aaron Plattner
Whenever you see the message, Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics
device, you need to check your kernel log to see why the kernel module
couldn't be initialized. Your best bet is to reproduce the problem, run
nvidia-bug-report.sh, and then attach the resulting log.
