[Bug 369274] Re: SIGSEGV in _nss_wins_gethostbyname_r

2009-06-11 Thread Thierry Carrez
Nizar, Michael:
If you can reproduce on a Jaunty test system, could you test and install glibc
2.9-4ubuntu6.1~ppa1 from my PPA at https://launchpad.net/~ttx/+archive/ppa and
let me know if it fixes the problem or not. You should upgrade the libc6 binary
package (which should pull the libc6-i686 or libc6-amd64 and libc6-dev
packages). Please reboot before testing to make sure you fully test the right
glibc.

2009-06-11 Thread the motorman
I do not know how to do a test without reloading 9.04 . I do not have a
problem now and can print fine with 9.04 and a 32 bit O/S. If you can give
me a safe way to check out your idea I will try but I am very concerned that
I will be back in the mess again. It took me nearly 35 hours to have a
system that does everything it should and did on U 8.1.
Whatever I did it seems that all I needed to do was to load smbclient as
this was missing when I did the update form 8.1 to 9.04.
Could it be that simple!!

[Bug 378920] Re: WebDAV fights Samba, WebDAV wins, Windows looses. Blame it on RUN_MODE=inet.

2009-06-11 Thread Thierry Carrez
On 8.10 (and 9.04) RUN_MODE is controlled by a medium debconf question
and defaults to RUN_MODE=daemons... so I guess you switched it to
RUN_MODE=inet manually at one point ?

Template: samba/run_mode
Type: select
__Choices: daemons, inetd
Default: daemons
_Description: How do you want to run Samba?
The Samba daemon smbd can run as a normal daemon or from inetd. Running as

Sorry to answer you so late but I was quite occupied this last days.

The path of the new database directory was already in Apparmor configuration (I
join the file with this comment). It is also declared in the Mysql
configuration file (I will join it in a next comment).
There is a symlink from /var/ib/mysql to /developpement/mysql too in case of.

I don't understand. I realised too that since I am on ubuntu 9.04, when
my Computer starts, there is a problem with MySql and Apparmor. I will

[Bug 375149] [NEW] tomcat6 needs debug start mode with jpda

2009-06-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Bits and pieces here from different sources but it all describes the
prob.

tomcat 6:
 dpkg -l | grep tomcat6
ii libtomcat6-java 6.0.18-0ubuntu6
Servlet and JSP engine -- core libraries
ii tomcat6 6.0.18-0ubuntu6
  Servlet and JSP engine
ii tomcat6-admin6.0.18-0ubuntu6
Servlet and JSP engine -- admin web applications
ii tomcat6-common 6.0.18-0ubuntu6
Servlet and JSP engine -- common files
ii tomcat6-user 6.0.18-0ubuntu6
Servlet and JSP engine -- tools to create user instances

I've installed the stock tomcat6 package on Intrepid, and I want to
configure it for remote JPDA debugging (listening on port 8000) for
debugging a webapp from eclipse. The normal way to do this is to edit
/usr/share/tomcat6/bin/startup.sh so it starts in debug mode:

exec $PRGDIR/$EXECUTABLE jpda start $@

However, the Ubuntu system startup script doesn't seem to follow the
normal tomcat6 startup procedure. /etc/init.d/tomcat6 runs /usr/bin/jsvc
instead of executing the normal startup scripts in
/usr/share/tomcat6/bin:

DAEMON=/usr/bin/jsvc
.
.
.
$DAEMON -user $TOMCAT6_USER -cp $JSVC_CLASSPATH \
-outfile SYSLOG -errfile SYSLOG \
-pidfile $CATALINA_PID $JAVA_OPTS $BOOTSTRAP_CLASS

How should I configure it to start the debugger?

The fix is to apply the enclosed patch, or something like it.

[Bug 378920] Re: WebDAV fights Samba, WebDAV wins, Windows looses. Blame it on RUN_MODE=inet.

RUN_MODE=inet manually at one point ?

Thanks! I guess I did, but it was probably in a haze of all the upgrade
popups and questions I had to go through in the middle of the night
while performing the upgrade. I see no other reason of ignoring a
recommendation to stay with the daemon. I promise not to do it ever
again!

Maybe it's good idea to not offer an untested feature in a regular
upgrade?

[Bug 27463] Re: [needs-packaging] Fedora Directory Server for Ubuntu

2009-06-11 Thread Leung, Kai-Cheung
Graeme:

The reason why fedora-directory-server_1.2.0-2.dsc doesn't build on your
jaunty system is because it relies on many libraries (such as
libsvrcore-dev) which are also along Tim's upload.

So you really need to test build these libraries first, then after they
are built, include Tim's PPA:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kb9vqf/389directoryserver/ubuntu karmic
main

as an alternate source (OTHERMIRROR in .pbuilderrc)

in your jaunty pbuilder environment.

Don't worry, Grame, I've tried and it builds perfectly. I hope the REVU
team can approve the packages as soon so possible so that it can get
into Karmic Alpha 3

REVU:

Would you please review the Fedora Directory Server packages as soon as
possible so that it can get into Karmic Alpha 3?

Ubuntu-Release:

Our Fedora Directory Server packages are ready and it would be great to
introduce Fedora Directory Server into Karmic. Sysadmins find FDS
really helpful in managing resource accesses for large corporate
networks

[Bug 27463] Re: [needs-packaging] Fedora Directory Server for Ubuntu

2009-06-11 Thread Graeme Humphries
Hey Kai-Cheung,

Sorry I wasn't more explicit, but I *did* rebuild the required libraries
from Tim's repo for jaunty. It still doesn't build properly for me. ;)

I suspect that perhaps the build-deps on the packages aren't totally
accurate, since I'm building on a fresh jaunty install inside a VM, and
so I don't have any dev packages other than what apt-get build-dep
pulls in.

[Bug 27463] Re: [needs-packaging] Fedora Directory Server for Ubuntu

2009-06-11 Thread Timothy Pearson
I will try to build the Jaunty packages ASAP, but first there is a
potential REVU issue--they seem to want .orig.tar.gz files, and I need
to go through and test build from original sources. That process might
take some time, and I won't be able to get to the Jaunty packages until
that is complete.

The build-deps may not be 100% correct for the Intrepid packages, but
Karmic should be pretty close. Remember that the PPA build systems
start with a blank system and pull in the build-dep packages, so if it
builds under Intrepid and Karmic that means that there is a different
dependency somewhere that is only needed under Jaunty.

[Bug 382829] Re: Suggested output when printing a file to PDF is technical and generic ~/output.pdf

2009-06-11 Thread Emmet Hikory
Rather than saving to the user's desktop, consider defaulting to the
user's XDG Documents directory. This helps keep the desktop spare,
increases simple discoverability and access using the Home function
from the file chooser (e.g. when attaching the PDF to email), and has a
localised pathname that matches other guidance to the user on where
document files should be stored.

[Bug 385816] [NEW] Resize corner grab stays visible after maximize

2009-06-11 Thread positivek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

1. Start up Nautilus or Firefox.
2. Make sure it is unmaximized and smaller than the screen.
3. Notice that in the bottom right of the window there is a grab area for
resizing
4. Maximize it.
5. -- Notice that in the bottom right of the window there is still a grab
area for resizing. It should not be visible.

In Nautilus, the grab area after maximizing simply does nothing and does
not go away. When I mouse over it, the mouse pointer does not change.
See screenshot.

In Firefox 3.0.10, the grab area after maximizing makes a mouse-over change
the mouse to a SE-corner resize pointer. The grab area remains until at least
the following occur:
 * Attempt to use it (after the mouse-up) or click on it.
 * Switch to another window and then switch back.

Occurs with different Gnome Themes (Human-Clearlooks and Mist tested).

Does NOT occur with Eye of Gnome.

Ubuntu 9.04.

Nautilus 2.26.2

Re: [Bug 377191] Re: irregular screen blanking (every few seconds)

2009-06-11 Thread pn
Thanks, it does work now with the new intel xorg drivers from
http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu, so this seems to be
related to the old intel drivers.

Geir Ove Myhr wrote:
Could you run the following loop which outputs the number of lines in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log every second and see if it increases when the screen
 blanks: `while true; do wc -l /var/log/Xorg.0.log; sleep 1; done`. If it
does, it is a sign that some Xrandr call is to blame. You may also check
if running `xrandr -q` makes the monitor blink. You may also want to try
the updated stable drivers for Jaunty at
 https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ .

I actually have a similar problem sometimes, but I think that is some
 bad cable connection.

I have to add my 2c. Just got a new system. Installed ubuntu with

System otherwise runs fine.

Intrepid on 2.6.27-14 generic kernel.

I also had to manually load the modules during the installation process

by the installer process. Going into a shell and loading the modules and

small attention to it as I believed that it was a true warning. After testing
by shutting the system down, reopening it and immediately shutting down the

[Bug 153425] Re: (Multiseat) screen shifts when /dev/console written to

I have also multiseat setup with two NVidia cards (AGP and PCI) using
description on page
#http://linuxgazette.net/124/smith.html
with proprietary nvidia driver.

I can confirm that this problem still exists on fully updated Ubuntu
Jaunty 9.04.

My kernel is
Linux gizmo 2.6.28-11-generic #42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 01:57:59 UTC 2009 i686

I can also confirm that hitting ENTER on the console on the secondary
screen shifts the primary screen from right to left.

We as a distro cannot do anything here. It is the manufacturer's fault
to not support their printers under Linux. Please have a look at the

[Bug 354927] Re: kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports

2009-06-11 Thread Shaved Wookie
Sorry,

What missing information exactly is wanted? (There's quite a few
previous comments from different people!)

Sources.list is attached.

apt-cache policy gives:
Installed: 4:4.2.90-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa1

but then, that's almost certainly a different version than what I had
when I filed the bug. If there's anything else I can provide to help,
please let me know.

[Bug 385797] Re: Generic text-only printer does not work

2009-06-11 Thread Till Kamppeter
Tim, can you have a look at your Generic Text-Only printer? The
textonly CUPS filter does not touch paper sizes anywhere and the PPD
file has only a Letter paper size, no A4, nothing else. The PPD file
should also have a cupsFilter lines like

*cupsFilter:text/* 0 textonly
*cupsFilter:application/x-cshell 0 textonly
*cupsFilter:application/x-perl 0 textonly
*cupsFilter:application/x-shell 0 textonly
*cupsFilter:application/x-csource 0 textonly

instead of

*cupsFilter:text/plain 0 textonly

so that all text formats defined in /etc/cups/mime.types get supported.

Another solution for the text-only printer to recognize the additional
text formats would be adding the following conversion rules (for example
in /usr/share/cups/mime/text.convs):

application/x-cshell text/plain 100 -
application/x-csource text/plain 100 -
application/x-perl text/plain 100 -
application/x-shell text/plain 100 -
text/html text/plain 100 -
text/css text/plain 100 -

This makes all text formats falling back to text/plain if there is no
filter chain accepting the text formats themselves.

[Bug 385575] Re: ATI card doesn't initialise on all drivers in Karmic

2009-06-11 Thread Tormod Volden
The problems you have with each driver is probably independent (although
-radeonnhd and -ati might be the same), so please file separate bugs.

Does vesa crash if you log in to a failsafe session (gnome or terminal)?
(- answer in your vesa bug report)

The next kernel (2.6.30-9.10) will have a fix that can help for -radeon
and -ati. If that does not help, file a bug on -ati.

Please use ubuntu bug package to file bugs.

[Bug 3339] Re: Ubuntu grub should be deluxe and animated like OpenSUSE grub

2009-06-11 Thread ANDREA
I am happy to see that this gets included (actually I saw it yesterday
in the newletter). I agree with will_in_wi, a smooth transition of the
different stages would be great. Even if we neglect the grub2 part, the
rest could still be more in sync :-) by the way this is definitely not
a killer feature as noone will switch from winblows or macosx to linux
because the startup is nice but it would still be great to have. i'm
very much looking forward to the implementation! (maybe there could be a
theme contest or so?)

[Bug 385830] [NEW] logout on resume from suspend

2009-06-11 Thread jpiesing
Public bug reported:

Sometimes when I resume from suspend, there's a long wait and then I get the
login screen and everything which was there when I suspended is lost.
I've not managed to find a reproducible set of circumstances for the first
occurence of the problem after a reboot however once it's happened once, it
does seem to happen much more often and the only way to fix this is to reboot.

This is on a Dell Latitude D420 with Jaunty. The X/Intel driver has been
updated to version 2.7.1 from x-updates in order to get dual-screen to
work (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
intel/+bug/379805). Some other packages were updated while debugging
this which may have impacted this issue.
