Please add

cp -p /etc/lvm/lvm.conf ${DESTDIR}/etc/lvm/lvm.conf

[Bug 322840] Re: upgrade to slapd failed

2009-07-15 Thread Dima Vinogradov
I ran slapd with -d any and figured out that the problem is in the
following lines in /etc/ldap/slapd.conf (it seems they were added by
package update script)

overlay syncprov
syncprov-checkpoint 100 10
syncprov-sessionlog 100

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce the exact error message - this slapd
instance is critical for our network.

After commenting out these lines, slapd started normally.

[Bug 328874] Re: getent group crashes winbindd on domain controller

2009-07-15 Thread Steve Langasek
Steve Beattie offered the following feedback on IRC:

sbeattie re samba; I ran the security team's qa-regression-tests
against it, but that doesn't say much about winbind.

This still leaves some risk of regression, but is better than what we
had; given the alignment with the 8.04.3 point release I'm going to go
ahead with publishing, but this highlights the need for test cases to be
established *before* SRUs are accepted into -proposed...

2009-07-15 Thread Kevin Otte
What needs to be done to make the open-iscsi-udeb load earlier in the
install sequence so its block devices are available to disk-detect?

Sounds like the initramfs problem is solved.

As for blowing away the networking, one possible solution: if the
installer knows what interface the initiator came up on, it can set that
to manual in /etc/network/interfaces as part of its cleanup.

[Bug 387527] Re: Cannot set paper orientation when select File - Print

2009-07-15 Thread mac_v
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. Unfortunately a paper
cut should be a small usability issue that affects many people and is
quick and easy to fix. I'm afraid this bug can't be addressed as part of
this project.

The OP has a valid point , but ideal solution would be to add a Page
Setup tab to the print dialogue. Which is not a easy/simple fix, Hence
not a papercut.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would
encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu
9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as invalid ONLY in the
papercuts project.

[Bug 399601] [NEW] File Roller 2.26.1 - clicking once on a file causes the file to stick to the cursor

2009-07-15 Thread Paul Weiss
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

This is a real annoying bug. At random times after opening a compressed
file, and clicking once on a file, the file gets stuck in double-click
and drag mode. If you leave the window with the file attached to the
cursor and click on the Desktop (for example), the file leaves the mouse
cursor, but as soon as you move the cursor inside the File Roller
window, it re-attaches itself. The only solution is to close File
Roller and restart it.

[Bug 399603] [NEW] Corrupt content when viewing CDROM/DVDROM root directory when ISO9660+Joliet+HFS present

2009-07-15 Thread dcam
Public bug reported:

This issue applies to an up-to-date Jaunty.

I have a DVD-ROM here, which when viewed in WIndows looks perfect, but
when viewing it on linux is corrupt.

I provide some screenshots. I also provide a screenshot of viewing the
contents of the media with IsoBuster (iso app for windows) which showed
me that the media contains three directories - ISO9660, Joliet, and HFS,
and none of them appear to be corrupt.

Re: [Bug 207072] Re: nautilus does not display samba shares for machines inside an ADS network.

2009-07-15 Thread gerstrong
it really would be nice to able to configure the Domain-Server or Workgroup
of a MS-Net when you install Ubuntu or be able to search it automatically.

You must fiddle around with config files to get the correct name.

Older versions had a configuration (The old network manager) to setup
this.

I also have that problem with Nautilus.

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: nautilus

 Using hardy beta, when I browse with nautilus other machines in an Active
 Directory (ADS) network, some of them do not show their shared folders.
 The ADS integration of the hardy box was done using winbind, kerberos and
 PAM libraries, essentially as described here:
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ActiveDirectoryWinbindHowto
 The network contains mostly windows clients, but also several linux boxes,
 which were joined to the ADS domain with the command: 'net ads join'.
 Machines running windows XP, windows 2003 and samba show '0 objects' in
 nautilus, but after inserting the complete path (eg.: smb://server/share)
 the folders can be accessed after the password prompt.
 Machines running windows 2000 show their folders regularly.

 Here is a detailed description of what happens:

 Case 1
 -
 Browsing from hardy-beta a machine running ubuntu-gutsy server.

 In a terminal window:

 ren...@vm-hardy:~$ smbclient -L gutsy-server
 Password: (password inserted here)
 Domain=[LAB] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.26a]
  Sharename Type Comment
  -  ---
  IPC$ IPC IPC Service (gutsy-server (Samba 3.0.26a, Ubuntu))
  share Disk gutsy-server_share
 Domain=[LAB] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.26a]

 In Nautilus:

 Open Network -- Double-click on the 'LAB' icon (Domain) -- All machines
 are displayed;
 Double-click on the 'gutsy-server' icon -- after a while, Nautilus returns
 '0 objects', without asking for a password;
 Insert the full address (smb://gutsy-server/share) -- a password is
 requested and the share content is displayed.

 Case 2
 -
 Browsing from hardy-beta a machine running Windows XP

 In a terminal window:

 ren...@vm-hardy:~$ smbclient -L XP-ACQ
 Password: (password inserted here)
 Domain=[LAB] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]
  Sharename Type Comment
  -  ---
  IPC$ IPC Remote IPC
  Data Disk
 Domain=[LAB] OS=[Windows 5.1] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]

 In Nautilus:

 Same behaviour as in case 1.
 smb://XP-ACQ -- '0 objects';
 smb://XP-ACQ/Data -- content displayed after password.

 Case 3
 -
 Browsing from hardy-beta a machine running Windows 2000

 In a terminal window:

 ren...@vm-hardy:~$ smbclient -L TF-2000
 Password: (password inserted here)
 Domain=[LAB] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]
  Sharename Type Comment
  -  ---
  IPC$ IPC Remote IPC
  Data Disk
 Domain=[LAB] OS=[Windows 5.0] Server=[Windows 2000 LAN Manager]

 In Nautilus:

 Open Network -- Double-click on the 'LAB' icon (Domain) -- All machines
 are displayed;
 Double-click on the 'TF-2000' icon -- All the shared folders are
 displayed, without asking for a password;
 Double-click on the 'Data' folder icon -- a password is requested and the
 content is displayed.
 (This is the correct and the expected behaviour).

 Using ubuntu-gutsy boxes, with exactly the same samba configuration
 (smb.conf), to browse the same machines I never observed Nautilus return '0
 objects' as in case 1 and 2.
 Such a behaviour in hardy will make a normal user think that browsing an
 ADS network does not work at all.

[Bug 351756] Re: [i945gm] Xorg crashed after external monitor in drm_intel_bo_reference() from i830_set_pixmap_bo - no dri for virtual 2048 (UXA bug)

2009-07-15 Thread Bryce Harrington
According to the upstream bug report, this issue is solved by the
following kernel patch, which has been tested and validated by Intel:

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/anholt/drm-
intel.git;a=commit;h=5e4d6fa72619aeea271d2ad704757717b06e291a

Since this is a kernel patch, I'm reassigning to the kernel team for
review. This would be a handy patch to get in since being limited to
2048x2048 on 915 and 945 kind of sucks.

[Bug 398444] Re: Why passwords letters are not showed as * ?

2009-07-15 Thread naoli
HU ? :O

Sorry, but I disagree. For instance, on our french online doc/help/forum
(http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org), there are plenty of pages written for
beginners that kindly ask to run a command in a terminal. Half of them
are sudo commands. (e.g. if you're stuck with the wifi, which is quite
often : http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/wifi) ;)

Am I wrong ?

nouveau-kernel-source (0.0.14+git20090715-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * New upstream snapshot. Now built from upstream's linux-2.6 branch,
which is the new canonical location. Now builds against 2.6.31 kernels
(LP: #393885).
  * debian/install:
+ Update for new snapshot date
+ Add new files for use-annotated-version.patch
+ Use new layout, include upstream's Makefile for out-of-tree builds.
  * debian/dkms.conf:
+ Update for new snapshot date
+ Use new layout
  * debian/rules:
+ Add annotated_version in get-orig-source targets
+ Add git config to fetch from Linus' tree, needed for git describe
+ Add GIT_OPTIONS parameter to get-orig-source target. Pass in
  --reference /path/to/local/kernel/repository to make get-orig-source
  use much less bandwidth and time.
+ Update get-orig-source for new location. Only copy interesting files
  (include/drm, drivers/gpu/drm) from the kernel tree.
  * debian/use-annotated-version.patch:
+ Use the annotated_version file we generate in get-orig-source to set
  the version for the drm modules. Upstream can love us again!
  * debian/linus-git-config-fragment:

  * debian/control:

2009-07-15 Thread c23gooey
FYI

i had a similar problem upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04

boot failure occurs after loading mdadm

so i logged into the maintenance console and used the command supplied
by the OP.

mdadm --examine --scan --config=mdadm.conf  /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf

this command added the necessary lines to mdadm.conf and everything ran
fine after that

2009-07-15 Thread mac_v
I agree with the last comment.

Most often, than we would like to accept , an average Ubuntu user has to use
the sudo command in the terminal.
Not providing the feedback only confuses the user more.

An advanced user might be aware of this, but the average user will
definitely be confused.

[Bug 399607] [NEW] The application Jockey () crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).

2009-07-15 Thread williamwirth-torres
Public bug reported:

OS version: Kubuntu 9.04 (Additional system details are below the
backtrace)
 Installed by DVD.iso downloaded 09 July 2009
KDE version:   4.2.2
 Installed as Kubuntu default
App. Version:   Jockey () 0.5-0
 Installed as Kubuntu default

The crash occurred while trying to open a Windows Live Hotmail account in
Konqueror. There were 2 other tabs open not including Hotmail (1 for
bugs.kde.org, 1 for kubuntu.org). Konqueror began to hang during the sign-in
process after I had submitted my username/password to the site.

About 10 seconds later, a window entitled
   Jockey - the KDE Crash Handler
popped up with the message
A Fatal Error Occurred.
The following paragraph was included:
  The application Jockey () crashed and caused the signal 11
  (SIGSEGV). Please help us improve the software you use by
   filing a report at http://bugs.kde.org. Useful details include how
   to reproduce the error, documents that were loaded, etc.
   *The details are posted at the end of this report.*

Immediately after the Error pop-up, Konqueror resumed normally. I was able to
complete my hotmail activities and log out. Konqueror remained in use for
another 10 to 15 minutes before crashing. In this instance I was provided a
few seconds later with the option to restore my automatically saved session. I
did not receive a new Fatal Error Pop-up.

HERE ARE THE DETAILS FROM THE BUG REPORT:

uno collegato via usb. Non posso nemmeno scegliere il recovery mode perché non
fuziona nemmeno il tasto Esc. Ieri sera avevo aggiornato virtualbox al 3.0 e
tutto andava bene. Poi ho riavviato e il pad e tastiera dopo un po smettevano
di funzionare. Sono su un portatile acer con intrepid ibex. Purtroppo non
riesco a postare niente altro, perché non posso scegliere il recovery mode e
nella schermata di login non mi fa scrivere niente. Grazie a tutti
