[Bug 315591] Re: LD_LIBRARY_PATH set in ~/.profile doesn't stick

2009-07-26 Thread timconinx
I did a quick check doing a GNOME session from kdm: the issue is there.

Personally, I'm using .gnomerc. I'm setting two variables,
LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LDLIBRARYPATH, and from gdm as well as kdm the first
variable is lost (no output on echo) while the second one is still there

I installed libpam-ck-connector and restarted X and logged back in.
gphoto2 --auto-detect -L --> Could not claim the USB device.

It's probably a permissions problem of some sort, as I can run
'gphoto2 --auto-detect -L' and it fails, if I run that as a sudo
command it works (likewise with gtkam)

[Bug 405116] Re: HP Deskjet d2600 Series default ppd file has wrong margins

2009-07-26 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have observed this problem with several other HP printers. Since the
introduction of the CUPS Raster driver "hpcups" the margins of the
printouts are not correct any more. This is easiest to see with the
Ubuntu test page which gets printed from system-config-printer. This is
an upstream bug of HPLIP.

To the developers at HP:

It is possible that it is caused by my last fixes on the "cups" output
device of Ghostscript to add support for new PPD keywords and fix the
margin handling (Ghostscript SVN revisions 9691, 9701, 9702, 9712, 9713,
9721, 9746 in April/May this year). These changes appear as patch inm
Karmic's Ghostscript and will be in the officially released Ghostscript
from version 8.65 on which is due next week. If you can fix this only in
a way that it breaks for Ghostscript 8.64 and older, add a "--with-
gs865" option to ./configure, so that one can choose the adjustment for
either the old buggy "cups" output device or the new fixed one.

So please test with Ubuntu Karmic.

- HP Deskjet d2600 Series default ppd file has wrong margins

[Bug 405158] [NEW] Intel WiFi Link 5100 (iwlagn) power management regression in 2.6.31

2009-07-26 Thread Matthew Lai
Public bug reported:

It seems like power management is no longer supported with the Intel
WiFi Link 5100 card (using iwlagn driver) with 2.6.31.

cyberf...@cyberfish-laptop:~$ sudo iwconfig wlan0 power on
[sudo] password for cyberfish:

cyberf...@cyberfish-laptop:~$ iwconfig wlan0

Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

Used to work in 2.6.30.

This bug has a big effect on battery life, because it can save about 2W
of power consumption, and my laptop (Acer TImeline 3810t) only consumes
about 8-9W.

Thanks!

[Bug 405159] [NEW] ark opens the wrong directory when extracting per "drag and drop"

2009-07-26 Thread yeus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdeutils

when extracting with using the drag & drop method with ark in kubuntu 9.04 ark
opens the directory which is specified in the extract dialog. This behaviour is
rather annoying because usually when you extract a file per drag & drop
the directory is already opened "by definition".
Also it is usually the wrong directory, because the directory specified in the
extract dialog is different from the currently openened...

[Bug 405155] [NEW] No prompt to install "ubuntu-restricted-extras" packages

2009-07-26 Thread mac_v
Public bug reported:

Testing in Karmic Alpha 3

On a fresh install , If the user tires to visit a site which uses .asf , for
streaming videos , the totem-mozilla plugin [windows media plugin] doesnt work.
[this .asf is used by several sites which require user accounts to view
streaming video channels]

The plugin doesnt work because the required codecs dont exist on a
default install, and the user is not warned that the codecs need to be
installed.

*Since there is no prompt the user has no idea of what is wrong/missing*
.

*There needs to be a prompt , when the plugin doesnt work , that a codec
needs to be installed* .

[AFAIK , The totem-mozilla plugin doesnt work until codecs , which dont
exist in the default install, are installed]

Installing the "ubuntu-restricted-extras" packages , should cover all
the required codecs , and other scenarios as well.

The sites I know need an user account, but to test on a fresh install
use this > http://2onlinetv.com/tv/broadcast.php?id=1042 < this is an
open site.

[Bug 405152] [NEW] Intel WiFi rfkill switch now defaults to on (wireless off)

2009-07-26 Thread Matthew Lai
Public bug reported:

For my laptop (Acer Timeline 3810t), after upgrading to 2.6.31, the
RFKILL switch now defaults to on (wireless disabled) on every boot. It
works if I manually turn off the switch.

The switch is a toggle switch, and it used to default to off under
2.6.30/alpha 2.

I am using the iwlagn driver. The card is an Intel 5100.

01:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100
Kernel driver in use: iwlagn
Kernel modules: iwlagn

I have tried using the RFKILL utility found here -
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Documentation/rfkill, to no avail.
The wifi device is "hard blocked".

This is annoying because I need to use wifi everytime I use my laptop,
and there is no programmatic way to enable it.

Thanks!

[Bug 405150] [NEW] File explorer won't delete files that can't be moved to the trash

2009-07-26 Thread Richard Cavell
Public bug reported:

(Sorry if it's a dupe)

rich...@richard-laptop:~$ uname -a
Linux richard-laptop 2.6.31-4-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 24 18:05:56 UTC
2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

64-bit Karmic alpha 3 with all updates applied, on my 2nd-gen MacBook.
I have an external hard disk attached via USB. I select any file on
that hard disk in nautilus and select "Delete". The computer gives me a
dialog (screenshot attached). I select "Delete". The files stay where
they are and can't be deleted from within the file browser.

So I opened a terminal and did sudo rm -r * on the external hard disk -
no problems.

[Bug 86919] Re: transport shouldn't indirect through control_files

2009-07-26 Thread Martin Pool
bzr no longer indirects through control_files for IO-type operations,
which was the original purpose of this bug. The main purpose of
LockableFiles as it currently exists is to coordinate a transaction
object with the state of the lock. It also still provides the
_find_modes method.

_find_modes is already softly deprecated in favor of
BzrDir._find_creation_modes; if/when the class as a whole is deprecated
the attributes that it creates will be gone. Alternatively we could
turn them into deprecated properties.

If this reasoning is correct, then Branch, which does not use
get_transaction, should never need a control_files. (Removing it may
strictly be a compatibility break for Branch though.)

There are also quite a large number of methods on Branch that just
forward to the control_files, that can go to a CountedLock instead.

I have a WD Passport and I can spin it down by doing sudo sdparm -C stop

since I do not know much about the purpose of mounting / unmount drives.
One of the things I haven't done much research to understand. Which way
is safer: pull the plug while it is spinning but unmounted, or spin it
down while it is unmounted?

[Bug 405148] [NEW] Laptop battery indicator indicates 0% charge when fully charged

2009-07-26 Thread Richard Cavell
Public bug reported:

[Please adjust the package choice if I got it wrong.]

rich...@richard-laptop:~$ uname -a
Linux richard-laptop 2.6.31-4-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 24 18:05:56 UTC
2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm on a 2nd generation 15 inch white MacBook (not Pro, not Air). 64-bit
Karmic alpha 3 with all updates applied. In OS X I have applied the
latest Battery firmware (which is 1.4).

In my panel, there's a laptop battery indicator. My battery is fully
charged - I have had it plugged into AC all day and it has an external
charge indicator which allows me to verify that it is 100% charged. Yet,
the indicator clearly reads 0.0%. Screenshot should verify this.

The applet has correctly identified that my AC was plugged in when this
screenshot was taken. If I unplug AC power, it changes to the icon
without the plug, and a red minimum-charge indication.

[Bug 405145] [NEW] jockey-gtk should probably be cleaned-up

2009-07-26 Thread eboyjr
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: jockey-gtk

1) Release: Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and also I noticed on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid
2) Version: jockey-gtk 0.5-0ubuntu10

Some of the windows are Untitled (like the loading and progress
windows). Are they dialog windows?

I was downloading 'fglrx' from the LiveCD (and the USB but it doesnt
matter probably) and the download progress was stuck on 0% for a long
time while it was downloading. The only time the progress bar moved as I
think when it was installing the driver after the download.

And the download took a long time so it just makes me worry ;)

It also seems a little unresponsive during downloads but I might be
mistaken because I do not have it running while I am typing this bug
report.

[Bug 405141] [NEW] karmic alpha 3 usb-creator does not show it's own image

2009-07-26 Thread Sander Jonkers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usb-creator

On karmic alpha 3, after booting from the live CD, usb-creator does not
show it's own Alpha 3 image to write to the USB stick. So I can't create
an USB stick with Karmic Alpha 3 this way.

I'm quite sure that this method worked on older versions of Ubuntu. If
so, it's a bug.

Hello,

HEre the result:

/var/lib/python-support/python2.6/gdata/tlslite/utils/cryptomath.py:9:
DeprecationWarning: the sha module is deprecated; use the hashlib module
instead
  import sha
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 139 error_code 11 request_code 132 minor_code 19)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error()
function.)

[Bug 405135] [NEW] Drag & drop now working correctly in Thuderbird

2009-07-26 Thread Atanas Atanasov
Public bug reported:

I updated to Karmic two days ago and I am noticing something very
strange in thunderbird (2.0.0.22+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu2). I usually
sort my mail by dragging messages from inbox to folders on the left.
This functionality works only partially. I can still drag and drop but
the highlited folder is about 200px above my mouse cursor. The vertical
distance seems to be constant across my tests. This is a recent
regression and definitely worked smoothly before upgrading.

Re: [Bug 404899] Re: Karmic Alpha 3: no/slow boot on Dell Studio 1535 (Ubuntu 9.04 OK)

2009-07-26 Thread Sander Jonkers
Results from the non-GUI boot (no flash, no quiet):

- new output on stdout like "Adding live session user". Goes a bit slower
than older Ubuntu boots
- some "buffer I/O error on device sr0" errors
- then, the screen turns black (start of the GUI) with the cursor a little
white turning clock/circle. The boot seems to go on, while the screen stays
black for 1 - 2 minutes
- then the Ubuntu startup sound, after which the cursor turns to an arrow
pointer. The screen stays that way for 3 - 5 minutes.

After the screens is really there, uptime shows "8 min".

[Bug 371874] Re: Shoutcast streams missing in Amarok 2

2009-07-26 Thread benchang
Bug may be in the GUI, but I can't tell.

I'm using Amarok 2.0.2, and have been using it to listen to shoutcast
for a while now. Today suddenly the list of streams was empty. Search
also always returns empty. After an hour or so of googling, I happened
to click the "Genre" sort-by header (which flips the alphabetical sort
order between A-Z and Z-A.) Suddenly all the streams appeared!
Strange. But good.

Could you try using a different mirror?

Go to Settings > Repositories in Synaptic

[Bug 321442] Re: NM ignores "system"-level connections if files are world-readable

2009-07-26 Thread Daniel Burton
I can confirm that this bug is not related to permissions issues. I am
having the same problem on my system. When I attempt to make a
connection available to all users, it disappears from the connection
editor, and then a file with the connection name appears in
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections. That connection never appears
in the connection editor again, and I can't activate it in the Gnome
network manager applet. This happens whether the connection I create is
wired or wireless.

My /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections looks like this:

-rw--- 1 root root 550 2009-07-26 20:25 Auto Burton
-rw--- 1 root root 298 2009-07-26 20:42 Auto eth0
-rw--- 1 root root 284 2009-07-26 20:27 Auto eth1
-rw--- 1 root root 297 2009-07-26 20:45 Auto eth2
-rw--- 1 root root 303 2009-07-26 21:22 Foobar
-rw--- 1 root root 307 2009-07-26 21:22 Foobar2
-rw--- 1 root root 324 2009-07-26 20:46 Wired connection 1

As you can see here, I created connections called Foobar, Foobar2, and
Wired connection 1. These all disappeared when I attempted to make them
available to all users.

In addition, when I attempted to edit an existing connection, Auto eth0,
and reconfigure to use a zeroconf local network, it disappeared from the
connection editor as well, and I couldn't enable the connection. I
still can't figure out how to get Auto eth0 back. (Wired connection 1
was the result of my initial attempt to recreate a wired connection for
the interface eth0. After this, I confirmed the problem by creating
connections called Foobar and Foobar2.)

[Bug 253204] Re: MTRR ioctls don't work as documented

2009-07-26 Thread D. Hugh Redelmeier
I tried to use apport-collect but it required more access rights than I
am willing to give it.

Please read #3 -- #1 is confusing.

This bug still exists in 9.04. It also exists in Fedora 11. It is in
upstream (I'm sure, by code inspection).

Note: I said that MTRRs with length >=4GiB were not reported. This also
applies to ones with starting address >= 4G.

[Bug 404768] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 2.4.4-1ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-07-26 Thread Lord_Devi
I had the same issue. I'm pretty sure it's only due to bacula-mysql-
director expecting mysql to be running. At the time it tried to connect
during the install process(Bacula intalled mysql as a dependancy, i had
not already had it installed on that machine), the mysql server was not
functional. The following are the packages that were installed from
using 'aptitude install bacula':

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  bacula bacula-client{a} bacula-common{a} bacula-console{a}
  bacula-director-common{a} bacula-director-mysql{a} bacula-fd{a}
  bacula-sd{a} bacula-sd-mysql{a} bacula-server{a} bsd-mailx{a}
  dbconfig-common{a} libdbd-mysql-perl{a} libdbi-perl{a}
  libhtml-template-perl{a} libmysqlclient15off{a} libnet-daemon-perl{a}
  libplrpc-perl{a} mailx{a} mtx{a} mysql-client{a} mysql-client-5.0{a}
  mysql-common{a} mysql-server{a} mysql-server-5.0{a}
  mysql-server-core-5.0{a} postfix{a}
0 packages upgraded, 27 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Bet anything if I had installed mysql first manually, THEN tried to
install bacula I wouldn't have even noticed this problem.

[Bug 405129] [NEW] X segfaults with startkde (intel 865G)

2009-07-26 Thread Xavier Fung
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I compile KDE trunk myself and also use xorg-eders PPA. It seems the
latest xorg from the PPA crashes with the startkde script from KDE
trunk. It segfaults and refuses to display anything. My machine is using
the old 865G and it seems quite problematic.

Steps to reproduce:
1. compile KDE using kdesvn-build script, and follow the "Solitary KDE 4
session" from this page to start KDE in its own X session:
http://techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started/Set_up_KDE_4_for_development

2. Upon entering the command "startkde", X segfaults.

[Bug 405125] [NEW] wicd Only Connects When Reinstalled

2009-07-26 Thread Jeremy LaCroix
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wicd

I am using Kubuntu Jaunty 64-bit on a Dell Inspiron 15n that shipped
with Ubuntu. The default Kubuntu plasma-widget-network-manager does
connect to my WEP Hex (non-hidden) wireless network, and the default
network manager that ships with Ubuntu also works. Kubuntu and Ubuntu
live CD's also work fine. However, I prefer to use WICD because I find
it more efficient and its always worked, until now.

First, I removed (and purged) the network manager package and the plasma
widget package that ships with Kubuntu. When I installed wicd, it worked
perfectly right away and it connected to my wireless network with no
problems whatsoever. It works for about ten minutes, and then the
connection disconnects. After that, no matter how many times I reboot or
try to reconnect, I will never get the connection back. It hangs at
"obtaining IP address". I MUST purge the wicd package and reinstall it,
then I will get ten more minutes of use before having to purge it and
reinstall it again. wicd works fine on another laptop that is used in
this house, but not mine. My laptop uses a broadcom 4312 rev 01 card.

Re: [Bug 401205] Re: Split transaction won't allow an account

2009-07-26 Thread Lee

Thanks,
That's what I figured out already. I built an asset account and brute force
moved all of the investments out of the two 401 investment accounts. Now both
of those accounts are empty; how can I delete them? There are no transactions
to either of them and no statements in either account, yet the delete option is
grayed out. I'd like to remove them to reduce the on screen clutter.

Also there doesn't seem to be any way to set a starting balance in an
investment account once it's built. Kind of a pain.

I've read through most of the on-line manual and it leaves a lot of
questions.

-c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table new_iso

Bad news: isolinux.cfg needs to be patched otherwise the CD triggers a
reboot (triple fault?).

gfxboot.com seems to procure the list of labels from isolinux.cfg to gfxboot
but doesn't respect
"include" directives: it only parses isolinux.cfg.

Ubuntu's gfxboot script (menuconfig.inc from gfxboot-theme-ubuntu) does the
right thing though and
successfully parses all cfg files, but then tries to match the labels provided
by the com module
with the labels it has parsed (to set the human readable names). Because of
this mismatch, labels
in other config files but isolinux.cfg are not displayed.

The following patch is need to isolinux.cfg (explicitely states labels
in isolinux.cfg):

isolinux > diff -du isolinux.cfg.orig isolinux.cfg
--- isolinux.cfg.orig 2009-07-25 08:43:55.0 -0700
+++ isolinux.cfg2009-07-26 20:27:24.0 -0700

 timeout 0
-gfxboot bootlogo
+label install
+label check
+label memtest
+label hd
+ui gfxboot.com bootlogo

Tested all four labels and played with the UI (modes, ...). Worked fine.

It seems that with Syslinux 4, gfxboot scripts won't have to parse
configuration files anymore. In the meantime,
gfxboot-theme-ubuntu may need to be patched to avoid the previous hack.
Shouldn't be too hard though.

[Bug 405120] Re: resume from suspend doesn't work (powers off instead) for Acer Timeline 3810t

2009-07-26 Thread Michael Lustfield
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the
resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in
advance!
