Striping of some env vars such as LD_LIBRARY_PATH, LD_PRELOAD, or HOSTALIASES will happen automatically when calling a suid/sgid binary. [Bug 299866] Re: Tomcat fails to shutdown (can't connect to port 8009)
@Saulius: The Ubuntu tomcat6 package is currently not integrated with Apache, it provides a standalone Tomcat server. We may provide a tomcat6-apache package someday that would build-depend on tomcat6-common and provide AJP integration. You're right it isn't a fix but since I couldn't reproduce the issue (and only one person seemed to experience it) it was a good workaround. The problem is apparently linked to issues in local networking preventing local access to hostname:8009, not really in Tomcat or its Ubuntu packaging. If you have the same issue, could you check that your hostname is properly resolved in /etc/hosts ? that you can access your hostname locally on port 8009 ? [Bug 404917] Re: mounted samba shares unavailable after suspend
By open a network share I mean navigating to a folder that is shared on my local network, via a Samba server on another Ubuntu machine. To navigate to this folder I go to Places (from the main Ubuntu toolbar) Network Windows Network etc. I don't navigate to the folder directly via smb:// as I haven't learn that address and I haven't stored a shortcut to the folder. Here is the info requested from the wiki page: I believe the issue is with Samba as a client. I can't say if this use to work with a previous release as I have only used 9.04 on this laptop and this is the first time I have used suspend. Samba version in use is: libsmbclient 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed libwbclient0 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed samba-common 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed smbclient 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed winbind 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed The remote share is accessed via Nautilus, invoked by going to the PlaceNetwork menu option. The remote server is running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS: Domain=[MSHOME] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.28a] Server requested LANMAN password (share-level security) but 'client lanman auth' is disabled tree connect failed: SUCCESS - 0 Hope this helps, the lanman auth error shown above I have no clue about I also note that it seems that the error occurs more frequently if a network folder (so smb://server/documents) is auto-mounted on the desktop. After a suspend, I can't navigate to that folder by clicking on the icon on the desktop or via PlacesNetworkWindows NetworkMSHomeServerdocuments etc etc. If I then un-mount that folder, I can then navigate to that folder via PlacesNetworkWindows NetworkMSHomeServerdocuments. -- mounted samba shares unavailable after suspend https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/404917 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 406263] Re: Please merge openipmi 2.0.16-1(main) from debian unstable(main)
I agree with Sebastien in the general sense. Only specific packages should now be picked from Debian and merged if relevant. We're focusing on stabilizing the packages for Karmic for now. That being said for this specific package (openipmi) and this new version I think the merge is worth having in Ubuntu Karmic. However I'd like to get the Ubuntu diff (init script) pushed back to Debian first (by filling a bug in BTS and linking the Debian bug to this one) before sponsoring the merge in Ubuntu. Thanks again for the work you're doing in Ubuntu - please be considerate in picking which packages to merge from Debian. If you have any doubt I'd suggest to stop by #ubuntu-devel and ask someone there if merging the new version from Debian is worthwhile. -- Please merge openipmi 2.0.16-1(main) from debian unstable(main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406263 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openipmi in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 407175] [NEW] log out fails
Public bug reported: I am running openssh server on my server which is running Ubuntu 9.04. I am running openssh client on my laptop running Ubuntu 8.10. I connect to my router using a wireless G WAP encryption. I use my laptop to connect to my server using ssh -X, with no key just a password. When I am done and try to logout, the logout process won't complete. I dont get a message, just a blinking cursor. I use control+D to log out. I can't control+C out of it. I use a stjerm terminal. The ssh lists as sleeping in the process tree. I can force a logout by shutting down the server, and then my client comes back to life, with a connection closed by remote host message. My server hangs on restart every time, when I am restarting while still connected to my laptop. I have to shut the power of by hand. It does not normally freeze after issuing the restart, only if I try to restart when still connected, although the connection is terminated before the restart command is sent by the system. This bug only appears after streaming certain processes over the network. Try runnig epiphany remotely, it causes this bug every time for me, but only if I close the epiphany by clicking the red X in the UI. If I control+C out of epiphany from the terminal, I can then logout of ssh fine. Client version is 1:5.1p1-3Ubuntu Sever version is 1:51p1-5Ubuntu I can reproduce this bug if necessary and supply files and memory maps and anythign else needed if someone wants them. My guess is that there are processes still running and ssh is waiting for them to complete. [Bug 406740] [NEW] [Jaunty] Sharing options in Nautilus don't work correctly
Public bug reported: When I right click a folder in GNOME nautilus 2.26.2 an select sharing options there is always the same display nothing is shared, nothing is selected even if a folder is already shared. Example: I have a shared folder bilder which was shared by using sharing options in nautilus just a minute before (see below), but when opening sharing options on that same folder again, it looks as if the default setting are valid (nothing is checked, nothing shared). So that means I have not only no feedback about the sharing status of a folder - I even can't unselect or unshare the folder by using nautilus alone. Is this a bug or a feature? The tiny tag on the icon of a shared folder, which shows the sharing status, is removed after reboot of the machine but the folder is still shared. I expect that the visual feedback about the sharing status in nautilus represents the current status of the sharing properties of a folder, but this is not the case. smbclient -L //localhost Enter andreas's password: Anonymous login successful Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.3.2] Sharename Type Comment - --- print$ Disk Printer Drivers IPC$IPC IPC Service (hetis server (Samba, Ubuntu)) laser Printer HP-Laserjet-6P bilder Disk - * Anonymous login successful Domain=[WORKGROUP] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.3.2] (...) cat /proc/version Linux version 2.6.28-13-generic (bui...@vernadsky) (gcc version 4.3.3 (Ubuntu 4.3.3-5ubuntu4) ) #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 30 19:49:51 UTC 2009 lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 9.04 Release:9.04 apt-cache policy nautilus nautilus: Installiert: 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 Kandidat: 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 Versions-Tabelle: *** 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages apt-cache policy samba samba: Installiert: 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 Kandidat: 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 Versions-Tabelle: *** 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 0 500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages best regards and thanks for any help! - andreas ** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Jaunty] Sharing options in Nautilus don't work correctly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406740 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 362203] Re: Skype high CPU use on 9.04 using pulse (and audio recording/sending delay 5sec)
Does anybody know if this problem is fixed in Karmic? DRM 'manages access' in the same way that jail 'manages freedom'. On Thu, Jul 30, 2009 at 5:19 AM, Jay Brosius zephyrgale38-g...@yahoo.comwrote: I have this very annoying problem ever since I upgraded Intrepid to Jaunty. I use Skype a lot being overseas, so this was a major failing of the Jaunty install for me. Skype worked OK on Intrepid. Using Skype a cpu (Core2Duo) suffered a quick ramp up to 100% and 20 seconds of delay in outgoing voice as soon as a Skype call connected. Text worked OK. I tried switching from gstreamer to xine for system sound, no luck. So i have been keeping a tab open in the browser to this page for more than a month to watch developments, also to http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=306381st=40. At last, maxdata gave me the information I needed. Since Skype did not work, I had nothing to lose deleting it and reinstalling it. So I deleted Skype, added the medibuntu repository, used Synaptic Package Manager to install Skype-static-oss, then tried it out. Problem cured! Skype CPU is now 20% and sound is fast and clear. Thanks maxdata! Jaunty is running on a Toshiba Satellite U-205 notebook using Gnome. It is up to date. As bug reporter of bug #132947, who notified Ubuntu Security about the issue, I can barely express myself, as English is not my mother tongue, how poorly this issue is handled - YEARS passed by. Everyone is laughting at Microsoft when it takes them 10 months to fix severe security issues, but seeing this bug, I can well imagine why it takes so long. If I were so, and I was, about building packages everytime myself, I would use Gentoo, Slackware or any BSD - but Ubuntu is a binary distribution, therefore I like to have a binary delivered. I want something that just works. Steve Dodier [2009-07-29 22:52 -]: I am not sure that they would like the icons, as they're notification-* icons that afaik only exist in Ubuntu's Human theme right now. Replacing the current icons isn't possible either as these are specially designed for notifications (ie. color only for icons meant to be used in critical notifications, otherwise grey-scale, and not designed for use in a panel at all). Would it be totally bad to use another icon color theme with notify-osd? Most colors should go along well with the dark gray background? For the text comprehensibility in case of a lack of icon, every case should be ok except maybe the trigger of XF86Power while plugged, since one would not know how filled his/her battery is at the moment, only how long till it is full. Is it possible to easily detect the presence of an icon ? Yes, but that wasn't my only concern. If you use a11y technologies, and a blind person is in front of the computer, you do have the icon, but it's not of any value to the user. The other texts were self-contained, can't we just make this last string, too? -- Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/399492 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 406747] [NEW] GTK+ apps runing as root won't use theme specifies by kcm-gtk
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kcm-gtk I'm running Kubuntu 9.10 alpha 3 with package kcm-gtk-0.5.2-0ubuntu1 installed. Application such as Synaptic, running as sudo, will not use GTK+ themes specifies by kcm-gtk (listed as GTK+ Appearance under Kubuntu System Settings). It will use the specified theme just fine when running as a normal user. It seems like the config file .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 in the user's home directory works fine, but the same file in the root directory doesn't do anything. I found that creating a sym link, in the root directory, called .gtkrc-2.0 pointing to .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 in the same directory, solved this problem. I had this issue with xterm recently (sgid utmp) and I see that ssh- agent is mentionned here (sgid ssh). I don't know if it can easily be implemented in ssh-agent, but vte uses a helper for sgid tasks (/usr/lib/libvte9/gnome-pty-helper) which allows programs such as gnome-terminal to not be sgid. -- LD_LIBRARY_PATH set in ~/.profile doesn't stick https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/315591 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 406698] Re: package samba-common 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi Thierry I didn't actually see an error line until I logged off and logged back in again. It was almost complete, showing me in the terminal window that it was installing something. No error, just never moved on. Then when I logged back in, it gave me that crash report. Hope that's helpful.
