[Bug 194140] Re: Dependency cycle prevents upgrade of libsasl2-2

2009-07-30 Thread Thierry Carrez
Dependency cycles don't prevent installation. The cycle will just be
broken in an arbitrary and non-predictable way. Search arbitrary at
http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html for more
details. When APT fails, which package does it try to configure first ?
Could you send your APT output for comparison with kees's one ?

[Bug 315591] Re: LD_LIBRARY_PATH set in ~/.profile doesn't stick

2009-07-30 Thread Loïc Minier
Striping of some env vars such as LD_LIBRARY_PATH, LD_PRELOAD, or
HOSTALIASES will happen automatically when calling a suid/sgid binary.
I had this issue with xterm recently (sgid utmp) and I see that ssh-
agent is mentionned here (sgid ssh).

I don't know if it can easily be implemented in ssh-agent, but vte uses
a helper for sgid tasks (/usr/lib/libvte9/gnome-pty-helper) which allows
programs such as gnome-terminal to not be sgid.

Re: [Bug 406698] Re: package samba-common 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-07-30 Thread 1Earth
Hi Thierry

I didn't actually see an error line until I logged off and logged back
in again.

It was almost complete, showing me in the terminal window that it was
installing something. No error, just never moved on.

Then when I logged back in, it gave me that crash report.

Hope that's helpful.

[Bug 299866] Re: Tomcat fails to shutdown (can't connect to port 8009)

2009-07-30 Thread Thierry Carrez
@Saulius: The Ubuntu tomcat6 package is currently not integrated with
Apache, it provides a standalone Tomcat server. We may provide a
tomcat6-apache package someday that would build-depend on tomcat6-common
and provide AJP integration.

You're right it isn't a fix but since I couldn't reproduce the issue
(and only one person seemed to experience it) it was a good workaround.
The problem is apparently linked to issues in local networking
preventing local access to hostname:8009, not really in Tomcat or its
Ubuntu packaging. If you have the same issue, could you check that your
hostname is properly resolved in /etc/hosts ? that you can access your
hostname locally on port 8009 ? Thanks.

[Bug 404917] Re: mounted samba shares unavailable after suspend

2009-07-30 Thread rupert
By open a network share I mean navigating to a folder that is shared
on my local network, via a Samba server on another Ubuntu machine. To
navigate to this folder I go to Places (from the main Ubuntu toolbar)
Network Windows Network etc. I don't navigate to the folder directly
via smb:// as I haven't learn that address and I haven't stored a
shortcut to the folder.

Here is the info requested from the wiki page:

I believe the issue is with Samba as a client.
I can't say if this use to work with a previous release as I have only used
9.04 on this laptop and this is the first time I have used suspend.
Samba version in use is:

libsmbclient 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed
libwbclient0 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed
samba-common 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed
smbclient 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed
winbind 2:3.3.2-1ubuntu3 samba install ok installed

The remote share is accessed via Nautilus, invoked by going to the
PlaceNetwork menu option.
The remote server is running Ubuntu 8.04 LTS:
Domain=[MSHOME] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.0.28a]
Server requested LANMAN password (share-level security) but 'client lanman
auth' is disabled
tree connect failed: SUCCESS - 0

Hope this helps, the lanman auth error shown above I have no clue about
I also note that it seems that the error occurs more frequently if a network
folder (so smb://server/documents) is auto-mounted on the desktop. After a
suspend, I can't navigate to that folder by clicking on the icon on the desktop
or via PlacesNetworkWindows NetworkMSHomeServerdocuments etc etc. If I
then un-mount that folder, I can then navigate to that folder via
PlacesNetworkWindows NetworkMSHomeServerdocuments.

[Bug 406263] Re: Please merge openipmi 2.0.16-1(main) from debian unstable(main)

2009-07-30 Thread Bhavani Shankar
yes seb its a new upstream version with the following upstream changelog
excerpt

2009-03-16 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* configure.in: Move to version 2.0.16.  It's been a while and
a release is a good idea, I think.

2009-01-16 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* lib/normal_fru.c: An Intel document (IPMI 0.9 to IPMI 1.0 Change
Summary and Porting Considerations from October 1, 1998) mentioned
the FRU version was updated from 1 to 2. Nothing else really
changed this, but some systems used the version 2. So account for
this change.

2009-01-09 Jan Safranek jsafr...@redhat.com

* sample/rmcp_ping.c: I know, it's just a library sample, but
people find rmcp_ping useful and it should report something when
user provides wrong command line arguments.

2008-12-09 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* lib/ipmi_lan.c, lib/oem_atca.c, sample/dump_sensors.c: Fix some
compiler warnings.

2008-12-08 Dann Frazier

* doc/IPMI.ltx: Fix some typos.

2008-11-19 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* lib/domain.c: Allow scanning IPMB address 0x20 even if the the
channel medium is not IPMB. This helps fake out things where
there is no IPMB channel but an MC at 0x20 is still reported
in the SDRs.

2008-11-07 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* lib/ipmi_lan.c: Fix some bugs notices by Stephane Blain
(stblain at users.sourceforge.net) dealing with the hash
function for ipmi lan objects.

2008-09-07 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* unix/selector.c: Fixed a problem with a missing NULL check
on sending a signal.

* sample/Makefile.am, sample/waiter_sample.c: Add a sample that
does waiting using the OS handler waiter.

2008-09-05 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* lib/ipmi_payload.c: Work around a bug in some systems that
switch the request and response address in IPMI LAN messages.

2008-07-14 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* unix/selector.c: Fixed handling of waking up threads.

2008-07-02 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* utils/os_handler.c: Fixed a messed up refcount when a waiter
times out.

* lib/strings.c: Fixed another typo noticed by Nancy Nichols.

2008-06-29 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* lib/hmac.c: Someone named Sia reported on Sourceforge that
OpenIPMI was using the wrong key for HMAC-MD5-128. And they were
right. Problem is now fixed.

2008-06-26 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* lib/strings.c: Fix a typo noticed by Nancy Nichols.

* configure.in: Fixed the dia test to work with 3-level version.

* lib/hmac.c: A variable in the SHA1 init function was declared
static instead of const. This means that in a multi-threaded
program, it is possibly (though quite unlikely) that the data
could get corrupted.

* swig/python/openipmiguid/gui_domainDialog.py: Improve the error
handling to make it easier to track down problems.

2008-05-21 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* lib/domain.c: Don't remove everything from the IPMB scan if
all the get channel commands fail. There may still be something
on IPMB 0.

* lib/domain.c: Fix an overflow problem dealing with IPMB
addresses. If the IPMB ignores list covered all addresses, the
scan code would go into an infinite loop.

* lib/domain.c, include/OpenIPMI/ipmi_mc.h: Cleaned up the
defaulting of the channel to IPMB, including using defines instead
of constants.

* configure.in: Move to version 2.0.15.

2008-04-21 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* sample/sample.c: Fixed some array index errors that Nancy
Nichols noticed.

2008-04-12 Corey Minyard cminy...@mvista.com

* include/OpenIPMI/ipmiif.h.in, include/OpenIPMI/ipmi_mc.h: Added
handlers that can be called when a registered handlers is removed
(cleaned up) automatically (usually when an object is destroyed).
This sounds kind of weird, perhaps, but object referenced as
callback data can be refcounted by perl and Python (and maybe
other things). If an object gets destroyed, there was no easy way
(besides keeping a list yourself and watching for object
destruction) to detect this. To avoid burdening the user with
having to watch that stuff, provide an easy way for them to know
when a callback handler is automatically removed.

* include/OpenIPMI/internal/ipmi_entity.h: Added helper functions
for the callback cleanup.

* lib/control.c, lib/domain.c, lib/entity.c, lib/mc.c,
lib/sensor.c: Actually implement the callback cleanup handlers.

* swig/OpenIPMI.i: Use the callback cleanup handlers to clean
things up properly and avoid

[Bug 406263] Re: Please merge openipmi 2.0.16-1(main) from debian unstable(main)

2009-07-30 Thread Mathias Gug
I agree with Sebastien in the general sense. Only specific packages
should now be picked from Debian and merged if relevant. We're focusing
on stabilizing the packages for Karmic for now.

That being said for this specific package (openipmi) and this new
version I think the merge is worth having in Ubuntu Karmic. However I'd
like to get the Ubuntu diff (init script) pushed back to Debian first
(by filling a bug in BTS and linking the Debian bug to this one) before
sponsoring the merge in Ubuntu.

Thanks again for the work you're doing in Ubuntu - please be considerate
in picking which packages to merge from Debian. If you have any doubt
I'd suggest to stop by #ubuntu-devel and ask someone there if merging
the new version from Debian is worthwhile.

[Bug 407173] [NEW] openssh: Please set traffic class on IPv6 packets

2009-07-30 Thread Malcolm Scott
Public bug reported:

OpenSSH sets the IPv4 ToS (Type of Service) byte to low delay or max
throughput depending on the situation, but does not set the equivalent
IPv6 Traffic Class byte. As far as I understand, these two bytes are
supposed to be used the same way. Debian bug
http://bugs.debian.org/498297 has a patch to correct this.

[Bug 407175] [NEW] log out fails

2009-07-30 Thread infamous
Public bug reported:

I am running openssh server on my server which is running Ubuntu 9.04.
I am running openssh client on my laptop running Ubuntu 8.10. I connect
to my router using a wireless G WAP encryption.

I use my laptop to connect to my server using ssh -X, with no key just a
password. When I am done and try to logout, the logout process won't
complete. I dont get a message, just a blinking cursor. I use
control+D to log out. I can't control+C out of it. I use a stjerm
terminal. The ssh lists as sleeping in the process tree. I can force a
logout by shutting down the server, and then my client comes back to
life, with a connection closed by remote host message. My server hangs
on restart every time, when I am restarting while still connected to my
laptop. I have to shut the power of by hand. It does not normally
freeze after issuing the restart, only if I try to restart when still
connected, although the connection is terminated before the restart
command is sent by the system.

This bug only appears after streaming certain processes over the
network. Try runnig epiphany remotely, it causes this bug every time
for me, but only if I close the epiphany by clicking the red X in the
UI. If I control+C out of epiphany from the terminal, I can then
logout of ssh fine.

Client version is 1:5.1p1-3Ubuntu
Sever version is 1:51p1-5Ubuntu

I can reproduce this bug if necessary and supply files and memory maps
and anythign else needed if someone wants them. My guess is that there
are processes still running and ssh is waiting for them to complete. So
may be its not technically a ssh bug but it certainly manifests itself
as one.

[Bug 406738] [NEW] can't unmount iphone without root privs

2009-07-30 Thread Tomas Cassidy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ifuse

I'm running ifuse 0.9.1-1ubuntu3 from jonabeck's PPA on Jaunty. When I
right-click on the iphone disk-image icon on the desktop and select
unmount, i get the error:

umount: /media/iPhone_ is not in the fstab (and you are not root)

If I unmount as root from the commandline the directory created in
/media is not deleted (eg. /media/iPhone). This causes another
directory to be created when the iPhone is plugged in again (eg.
/media/iPhone_).

Selecting unmount for the iPhone camera icon on the desktop works fine
without errors. Should it be only creating one icon on the desktop
instead of both the disk-image and the camera icons?

[Bug 406740] [NEW] [Jaunty] Sharing options in Nautilus don't work correctly

2009-07-30 Thread Andreas Mueller
Public bug reported:

When I right click a folder in GNOME nautilus 2.26.2 an select sharing
options there is always the same display nothing is shared, nothing is
selected even if a folder is already shared.

Example: I have a shared folder bilder which was shared by using
sharing options in nautilus just a minute before (see below), but when
opening sharing options on that same folder again, it looks as if the
default setting are valid (nothing is checked, nothing shared). So that
means I have not only no feedback about the sharing status of a folder -
I even can't unselect or unshare the folder by using nautilus alone. Is
this a bug or a feature? The tiny tag on the icon of a shared folder,
which shows the sharing status, is removed after reboot of the machine
but the folder is still shared.

I expect that the visual feedback about the sharing status in nautilus
represents the current status of the sharing properties of a folder, but
this is not the case.

[Bug 194133] Re: cups probelm client-error not possible'

2009-07-30 Thread GodLikeCreature
I am running Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty and I am trying to use a printer shared
by a Windows machine, getting the same error. When looking at
/var/log/cups/error_log, I get the following:

E [30/Jul/2009:07:51:17 +0200] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized
E [30/Jul/2009:07:51:37 +0200] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized

E [30/Jul/2009:08:09:58 +0200] CUPS-Add-Modify-Printer: Unauthorized

Using the authentication hint, I tried to sudo the system-config-printer
command, but it made no difference, still the same problem.

The funny thing is that I can do this same thing in other Jaunty
machines I am using, so it is not consistent, it fails for most, but
works for a few.

Thanks!

install for me. Skype worked OK on Intrepid. Using Skype a cpu (Core2Duo)
suffered a quick ramp up to 100% and 20 seconds of delay in outgoing voice
as soon as a Skype call connected. Text worked OK. I tried switching from
gstreamer to xine for system sound, no luck. So i have been keeping a tab
open in the browser to this page for more than a month to watch
 developments, also to
 http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=306381st=40.
At last, maxdata gave me the information I needed. Since Skype did not
work, I had nothing to lose deleting it and reinstalling it. So I deleted
Skype, added the medibuntu repository, used Synaptic Package Manager to
install Skype-static-oss, then tried it out. Problem cured! Skype CPU is
now 20% and sound is fast and clear. Thanks maxdata!
Jaunty is running on a Toshiba Satellite U-205 notebook using Gnome. It is
up to date. Perhaps Skype's reliance on the Qt library used by KDE is a
problem here and including its own library static linked fixes things.

[Bug 44335] Re: IMAP/POP3+SSL/TLS are disabled

2009-07-30 Thread Phoenix
As bug reporter of bug #132947, who notified Ubuntu Security about the
issue, I can barely express myself, as English is not my mother tongue,
how poorly this issue is handled - YEARS passed by. Everyone is
laughting at Microsoft when it takes them 10 months to fix severe
security issues, but seeing this bug, I can well imagine why it takes so
long.

If I were so, and I was, about building packages everytime myself, I
would use Gentoo, Slackware or any BSD - but Ubuntu is a binary
distribution, therefore I like to have a binary delivered. I want
something that just works.

It needs someone to get it done on a political basis - either by fixing
the issue or removing the piece of insecure code.

Re: [Bug 399492] Re: Feature request : Possible improvements for notifications

2009-07-30 Thread Martin Pitt
Steve Dodier [2009-07-29 22:52 -]:
I am not sure that they would like the icons, as they're notification-*
icons that afaik only exist in Ubuntu's Human theme right now. Replacing
the current icons isn't possible either as these are specially designed
for notifications (ie. color only for icons meant to be used in critical
notifications, otherwise grey-scale, and not designed for use in a panel
 at all).

Would it be totally bad to use another icon color theme with
notify-osd? Most colors should go along well with the dark gray
background?

For the text comprehensibility in case of a lack of icon, every case
should be ok except maybe the trigger of XF86Power while plugged, since
one would not know how filled his/her battery is at the moment, only how
long till it is full. Is it possible to easily detect the presence of an
 icon ?

Yes, but that wasn't my only concern. If you use a11y technologies,
and a blind person is in front of the computer, you do have the icon,
but it's not of any value to the user.

The other texts were self-contained, can't we just make this last
string, too?

[Bug 406747] [NEW] GTK+ apps runing as root won't use theme specifies by kcm-gtk

2009-07-30 Thread dw40
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kcm-gtk

I'm running Kubuntu 9.10 alpha 3 with package kcm-gtk-0.5.2-0ubuntu1
installed. Application such as Synaptic, running as sudo, will not use
GTK+ themes specifies by kcm-gtk (listed as GTK+ Appearance under
Kubuntu System Settings). It will use the specified theme just fine when
running as a normal user. It seems like the config file .gtkrc-2.0-kde4
in the user's home directory works fine, but the same file in the root
directory doesn't do anything. I found that creating a sym link, in the
root directory, called .gtkrc-2.0 pointing to .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 in the
same directory, solved this problem. The question is, why this happens
to apps running as sudo/root but not to normal user?

[Bug 406746] [NEW] troubles with LED indicators on ASUS F80s laptop

2009-07-30 Thread Олег АндреичЪ
Public bug reported:

There are 4 LEDs at the front side of ASUS f80s.
Two of them (Operating and Cell) works fine. But Bluetooth and Wi-Fi indicators
are wrong. I've no Bluetooth in my laptop, but LED usually lights (when Wi-Fi
switch is on during boot), and Wi-Fi LED lights only during boot (no difference
in what statement is Wi-Fi switch), and then no light from it.

[Bug 406752] [NEW] evolution crashes with segmentation fault

2009-07-30 Thread karoly.vegh
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am using Evolution to poll mails from our Exchange through owa. It
works alright Every now and then it crashes with a segfault. Have
straced the evolution process (because evolution --debug=file didn't
really bring useful information) until it crashed now, will attach the
the strace (-f -ff) output.

relevant information:

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 in a VirtualBox 3.0.2. I start evolution by
SSHing into the ubuntu box, exporting DISPLAY and starting evolution in
the background.
