[Bug 411045] Re: slapd cannot get resinstalled or removed if the configuration files were lost

2009-08-10 Thread Christian Glahn
I found that the problem was related to the init script
(/etc/init.d/slapd)

With the attached patch the problem disappears, because the script stops
before the daemon tries to access the configuration.

2009-08-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package hw-detect - 1.72ubuntu2

---
hw-detect (1.72ubuntu2) karmic; urgency=low

  * Default iSCSI configuration to true, and stop installing open-iscsi-udeb
unconditionally here; partman-iscsi will take care of that. Instead,
offer iSCSI targets as a choice if partman-iscsi is available and no
disk devices are found, and implement compatibility with old-style
open-iscsi/targets preseeding (LP: #237460).
  * Stop installing acpi, acpid, and acpi-support-base if acpi is available.
Most of these are going away and desktop facilities should take care of
whatever's left.

[Bug 409235] Re: mom

2009-08-10 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Bug 394385] Re: [karmic] php packages need update to 5.3

2009-08-10 Thread KevinVanZonneveld
I've been reading up on:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MeetingLogs/Server/20090707

Great job coming up with a php 5.3 suhosin patch so soon Raphael, thanks
a lot for that.

It would be very to have late static binding (, 20% perfomance boost,
namespaces, closures, etc) in Karmic already.

I think it may even convince some PHP people to give Ubuntu a try, if
they're stuck on 5.3 versions with their distro of choice.

On the other hand, some things really are a bit different from 5.2:
http://kevin.vanzonneveld.net/techblog/article/prepare_for_php_53/
(sorry for the plug)

..and people may not want to upgrade their webservers to Karmic in fear
of breaking their PHP apps; currently running fine on Jaunty.

Most of the resulting impact can be hidden/minimized by tinkering with
some ini settings (still enable shorttags, hide deprecated messages),
but the quest rises if that's the way to fly. It will only make it
harder for PHPers to upgrade to future version that will totally drop
support for some functions features.

[Bug 411268] [NEW] No thumbnails for RAW files in import dialog

2009-08-10 Thread HMuenz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

I use to shoot RAW files with my Canon EOS 1000 D (*.cr2). When I
connect the camera to my computer (Ubuntu 9.04; F-Spot 0.5.0.3), the
F-Spot import dialog pops up showing a tiny thumbnail for each image on
the camera. But when I take the SD card out of my camera and plug it
into a card reader, the same dialog pops up without showing any
thumbnails. This is quite annoying, because the detect duplicates
feature doesn't work either.

I know that F-Spot can handle Canon's *.cr2 RAW files, so why aren't
they shown in this dialog?

Regards
Heiner

[Bug 411045] Re: slapd cannot get resinstalled or removed if the configuration files were lost

2009-08-10 Thread Christian Glahn
I found that the problem was related to the init script

With the attached patch the problem disappears, because the script stops
before the daemon tries to access the configuration.

[Bug 411187] Re: Firefox 3.0 - Bookmarks do not appear in sidebar

2009-08-10 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. I will address your issues
individually. In the future, please open a separate bug for each issue.

1. The proper way to update packages is with your package manager.
It's easier to disable the option than to change the functionality from
what is the standard. You should get updates regularly with your system
updates.

2. This is the only issue we can address in this bug. Are you saying there is
nothing in the sidebar when you select Bookmarks from the Sidebar menu under
Tools? Could you please see if this this occurs with a new profile? You do
not need to deleted your old profile to test.
firefox -ProfileManager

3. We do not support RealPlayer. You can open a bug with Medibuntu if you
would like support for the RealPlayer package if you installed their version.

@JC: I didn't fix the bug, just debugged it with that code to check WHY

David Miller (the driver dev) answered me on the mailing list with:

The problem is that we need to know if a receive FIFO overflow
puts the chip into a state where it must be reset.

And until we know that, we cannot simply exclude that condition
from the reset test.

So I wonder if this has something to do with filesystem corruption as
/boot/grub files does not seem to be replaced on update and because
downgrading does not seem to have any effects.

update-grub just generates grub.cfg. That's why upstream renamed it to
grub-mkconfig.
grub-install takes care about all other files in /boot/grub

[Bug 285815] Re: Backlight keeps getting darker on MacBookPro

2009-08-10 Thread Alex Murray
This patch is about making the applesmc driver report sensible values
for the ambient light sensor - it has already been integrated into the
applesmc dkms package in the mactel ppa so if you're running that then
you've already got it and don't need to do anything with the patch
itself.

[Bug 396928] Re: Firefox 3.5 identifies as Shiretoko

2009-08-10 Thread Per Heldal
What the application is called in GUI-elements doesn't really matter all
that much. It does after all simplify package-management slightly when
the decision has been made not to make it a default upgrade on old
distributions.

That the browser identifies itself as Shiretoko to websites is however a
problem. It seem to be a string that is carried over in the config for
users who already used a beta and then upgraded to final later. 3.5.x
final should ideally update this during its first startup along with the
check for add-on compatibility etc. Users do however have the ability
to change it later by opening about:config in the location bar, search
for general.useragent.extra.firefox and change it from
Shiretoko/3.5.x to Firefox/3.5.x. That does seem to fix the problems
I've had with browser compatibility on some sites. I don't know whether
there are sites that rely on being able to identify Shiretoko though.

[Bug 18995] Re: [MASTER] Open With dialog not user-friendly

2009-08-10 Thread dotancohen
I don't know all the details, but the default page in Firefox is
 simply a configuration option

No, that configuration option was removed sometime in 2004:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269664

I agree that the patch should be applied upstream, however, that does not mean
that Ubuntu cannot apply the patch to Firefox distributed with Ubuntu until the
Mozilla folks get around to fixing the issue. The Mozilla public bugtracker is
generally ignored in developing Mozilla products, especially in regards to new
feature requests or non-crasher bugs. Very few new Firefox or Thunderbird
features started off as Bugzilla RFEs, and very rarely does an RFE or
non-crasher / non-security bug get fixed. We will be waiting a long time to see
the fix implemented in Firefox, if ever.

If this were a Zim or KDE bug, I would agree that waiting for upstream
to apply the patch would be reasonable. But Mozilla? Nobody with
experience filing bugs on Mozilla products would hold their breath
waiting for Mozilla to fix a non-crasher / non-security bug. In
Mozilla's defence, security issues are dealt with _fast_ and I give them
all the credit in the world for their dedication to keeping the browser
secure.

The 2.6.24 source worked fine without this patch (see past comments).

So the patch pointed above is the source of the problem here.

Re: [Bug 407970] Re: Wine, Pulseaudio and no more sound in 2.6.31 - regression?

2009-08-10 Thread Neil Wilson
There will only be a pulseaudio option if you have the correct
libraries in place when you build the code. You need to make sure that
the libpulse-dev package is installed and you must run 'autoreconf' to
regenerate the configure script.

Hence why I created a package...

2009/8/9 Susan Cragin susancra...@earthlink.net:
Neil -- Your pulseaudio driver did not change my experience.
I compile from git, so I downloaded your three patches, successfully patched
the code, compiled, installed, loaded Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10S and tried
 to train it.
The training still failed, with the exact same message as above.
When I ran winecfg, I noticed that my options were essentially the same. Is
there supposed to be a pulseaudio option? My audio choices are: ALSA, OSS,
 Jack, NAS, EsoundD.

 BTW --
Bug 371897 may be responsible for DNS10's failure to train. Any sputter or
stop in sound input might give the timeout error I see.

Re: [Bug 359975] Re: evince sometimes yield error Error printing: Too many failed attempts

Please check your /etc/cups/printers.conf file, does it have the following

 Try changing it to:
 AuthInfoRequired none

I don't have a printers.conf file, but none of the files in /etc/cups
contain the string AuthInfoRequired, and I still experienced this bug.

[Bug 359407] Re: Jaunty icedtea6-plugin doesn ’t work in Firefox 3.5

2009-08-10 Thread TJ
This is a high-importance bug since any applet embedded in a web page
can cause Firefox to spin the CPU at 100% until the entire Firefox
process is killed.

The user has no control over the launching of a Java applet nor warning
that a page contains one.

Now that firefox-3.5 takes over the /usr/bin/firefox symbolic link this
becomes more invasive since any desktop shortcuts or links embedded in
application configurations that expect to launch a working firefox-3.0
will launch firefox-3.5 instead.

[Bug 411248] Re: openoffice file corruption when using jungledisk

2009-08-10 Thread Timothy Pearson
I am now seeing this on my cifs mounted Documents directory. I imagine
that the same bug is probably at work here, and it affects ods
(spreadsheet) files as well.

Out of curiosity, when your files are ruined, do they grow really,
really large (i.e. a file that was originally 10Kb is now 1Mb)?
