Re: [Bug 407415] Re: slapd2.4.15-1ununtu3 failed to install or upgrade

2009-09-09 Thread A. Yanushka

Hello Mr. Gug

Thanks for your reply. I did not follow instructions
on the installation. In the update manager I took
the defaults, ignoring what I noted in "4. Actual" in
the original message.

I fixed my error by complete removal of slapd followed
by a new install. Since the number of clients on the
server was less than one hundred, I decided to start
over rather than try to fix the broken database.

I'm sorry I can't be more specific since the incident
occurred about a month ago.

I reported the error because of the bug icon that appeared
after the upgrade finished.

Thanks for your concern.

It's just a temporary workaround, though, of course. As it happens,
"gdm-2.20" is in source NEW, as a proposed alternative login manager
for Xubuntu. I was hoping that we wouldn't actually need it, though.

On 9.04 the problem has been two fold initially in the 2.6.28.11 kernal
there was a bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345002) to do with
recognizing the cdma device and connecting it to the right /ttyUSB0
place, seemingly this has been resolved in kernal 2.6.28.13. But the
said device 2288 still did / does not work - atleast not normally. The
bug resolves the issue of the device being identified and being
connected to /dev/ttyUSB0 by defualt, but It only works in this strange
method outlined in the next para:-

first i need to boot up in 7.10 and run the device , after this i do a
reboot and boot up into 9.04 and immediately startup the device - again
using wvdial, and *strangely, if it connects on the first try the device
works properly. If the connection gets broken then i get the error
message

/ttyUSB0 input output error

**
it seems that the problem is that 9.04 does not load the right driver to the
device, which someone told me is a dumb device and gets reset each time it gets
attached to an OS.

So my question is how can i get 9.04 to load the right driver (without
having to do the 7.10 and reboot thingaamajig)

Is there a way i can extract the correct firmware loaded in in 7.10 and
make 9.04 use that ?? or is there a way to get 9.04 recognize and load
the correct driver / firmware

would appreciate your help

thanks
ram

[Bug 427190] Re: php pages on localhost try to download instead of render in firefox most of the time

2009-09-09 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a
bug in php5.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via
the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you
are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

The browser will ask to download the file if it receives no output from
the apache server which in turn gets the output from the php script.
Please verify that you are returning data from the PHP script.

[Bug 427191] [NEW] kmail displays "No such file or directory" error message on startup with IMAP folder

2009-09-09 Thread Stilor
Public bug reported:

After I added an IMAP account to KMail, it started to display the "no
such file or directory" message for one of the IMAP folders ("Other
Users"). Right after I added that account, same error message was
displayed for each of the IMAP folders, but they disappeared after the
first run.

[Bug 423624] Re: xorg-edgers regression: some buttons not showing in blender

2009-09-09 Thread Wolfgang Kufner
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: libgl1-mesa-dri

Upgrading current karmic to the newest xorg-edgers packages this morning
brought in among others:
  libgl1-mesa-dri_7.6.0+git20090902.dc9de806-0ubuntu0tormod.
The upgrade of this package resulted in visual problems with some buttons not
showing up in blender until mouse over and some buttons disappearing on mouse
over as the attached video shows.

Forcing libgl1-mesa-dri down to the current karmic
(7.6.0~git20090817.7c422387-0ubuntu3) worked and made all those visual
  problems go away.

Further investigation showed that it is the update of libgl1-mesa-dri
  from 7.6.0+git20090901.a8cbb156-0ubuntu0tormod to
7.6.0+git20090902.dc9de806-0ubuntu0tormod that introduces this bug. this
is btw. the same update that fixed bug #423047 "xorg-edgers regression:
  screen corruption in blender".

- A new update of xorg-edgers installed 7.6.0+git20090908.e589a37f-
- 0ubuntu0tormod. This did not change the bugs status.
-
I have discovered another visual phenomenon that coincides with the non-
showing buttons. In blenders outliner window some icons are offset by
  one. See http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31478830/outliner_correct.ogv for
the correct behaviour (as happens with libgl1-mesa-dri forced down to
  current karmic) and
  http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31478848/outliner_offsetbug.ogv for what
  happens with current xorg-edgers libgl1-mesa-dri.
+
+ A new update of xorg-edgers installed
+ 7.7.0~git20090909.4d85a6b3-0ubuntu0tormod. This did not change the bugs
+ status.

Please let me know what else I can do to make ubuntu karmic on intel
graphics a good platform for blender :-)

[Bug 426917] Re: 9.10 update-grub fails to run

2009-09-09 Thread Steve Langasek
The problem is that 'postinst_hook = update-grub' should be set in your
/etc/kernel-img.conf, and isn't on the new install. AFAIK, this should
be done by the grub-installer package at install time, so reassigning
the bug there. Though it's possible this bug is already fixed in alpha
5, and you should just add this line by hand, along with 'postrm_hook =
update-grub'.

[Bug 427190] [NEW] php pages on localhost try to download instead of render in firefox most of the time

2009-09-09 Thread Tim Wells
Public bug reported:

I use apache2, php5 and mysql-server to develop web pages on my local
machine. I have been using karmic and keeping it up to date since alpha
3.

When viewing pages on localhost (ie. http://localhost/whatever.php)
sometimes it will render in firefox and sometimes firefox will ask to
download it. While this is annoying and probably serves me right for
using alpha versions but I haven't seen this bug report yet.

I can browse any pages on the web with no issues so I can only assume
that it is a configuration problem with apache or php or a bug in the
current version as it never used to happen on Jaunty.

[Bug 406263] Re: Please merge openipmi 2.0.16-1(main) from debian unstable(main)

If there's a very good reason to have the new upstream version we will
consider it.

http://qa.ubuntuwire.com/bugs/rcbugs/ for example is a good indicator
for things that we should probably have.

Is this merge important or not considering the release in a few weeks?

[Bug 353800] Re: restricted drivers (ATI) causes Xorg memory leakage

2009-09-09 Thread Ramon
@svaens

Well i wasn't experiencing any lags. But what i notice is the fact that
my monitor now turns off without a problem when set. I also notice some
of my video problems fixed, such as full screen video which would
sometime crash my system for no reason. For my system I am using the ATI
HD3200 on board graphics. To answer, try the installation and see if
your lag problem goes away. I have another Ubuntu install for my mother,
sometimes there would be a lag whenever something flash related pops up
in the browser. After installing from the ATI website i notice an
improvement. My suggestion is to try it and see what happens.

For those wondering, my Xorg has been good to me since then. Its
currently at 147MB with a two day uptime, 10 tabs in Mozilla and Opera.
So far so good.

[Bug 423639] Re: timing is to fast if installing to slow media

2009-09-09 Thread Dylan McCall
This can be accomplished if the slideshow is passed an install time via
the URL. Anyone know if Ubiquity has that type of information handy by
the time it creates the progress bar?

However, I am hesitant to make the slides stick for too long. Right now
it's possible to sit and read all of them, but if the slides stick for a
few minutes each, for example, the entire usage changes to something we
didn't design this for.

A richer slide capping the end could make for a nicer experience in
these cases, though. (Maybe something interactive is in order for the
future?).

[Bug 427182] [NEW] No sound other than login sound

2009-09-09 Thread ssemel
Public bug reported:

No sounds play, either through the built-in speaker in my laptop or
using ear-buds plugged into the audio-out jack. I just installed 9.04
two days ago (triple booted with Windows XP and Puppy4.2.1). Sound works
fine in the other two systems, but not in ubuntu. Tried to repair using
how-to at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130384 but stopped
"Let's Play Something" under Set-Up. I installed all the recommended
packages. Using 'lspci | grep Audio' in a terminal I received this
message: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family)
High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02). Start-up sound works fine and
as expected. Can't hear any sound from applications or websites. I am
completely lost.

[Bug 426069] Re: kwin crashes - assertion failure

Tried to do as you suggested; installation of kdebase-workspace-dbg

I guess, without it the stacktrace would be useless.

Also, as I described, the crash happed most often at start-up. Is it
possible to attach to this process at its first run? (I guess, I could
try renaming kwin to kwin.orig and putting a shell script that will do
these commands and put it in place of kwin binary?

[Bug 426620] Re: poor message in Karmic installer slideshow

2009-09-09 Thread Dylan McCall
Thanks for the bug report, Roy. When I wrote that, I was actually
meaning precisely what you see. This is definitely quite possible on a
reasonably efficient computer, and as far as stability is concerned I
for one have never really encountered problems. Still, you make a good
point; this is something that COULD backfire, and we don't want any of
that.

I intend to rewrite that slide (regardless of where the other content goes)
since it is really horribly terse right now, so this will get fixed.
Any suggestions for how it could be better worded?

[Bug 292504] Re: Use embedded icons for executable files

2009-09-09 Thread Scott Ritchie
Yes, and this will perhaps provide the motivation Gnome needs to strip
the "draw a box around all thumbnails" code and put it into the
thumbnailers themselves where it belongs.

It's either that or hack something into libgnomeui (loses the modularity
of thumbnailers) or define some new custom icon method.

[Bug 353800] Re: restricted drivers (ATI) causes Xorg memory leakage

2009-09-09 Thread svaens
@Ramon + Aisthesis

I am experiencing the lag problem which others have mentioned. I've not
left my laptop on for more than a day, so i haven't noticed any memory
leak problem (though, I wasn't looking for it).

Due to to the maximising lag problem, I disabled desktop effects.

Does installing the official driver from ATI's website. 9.4 catalyst, as
you have done, fix the lag problem? Or were you guys never experiencing
this yourselves?

p.s. I am using Ubuntu Jaunty, on Sony vaio with ATI Mobility Radeon HD
3470

[Bug 427178] [NEW] lower panel stuck to upper panel when cycling though video resolution.

2009-09-09 Thread Manoj Iyer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I cycle through the resolution mode, from lowest to the highest I
see the following issues:

1. The lower panel is now moved from bottom to the top.
2. Applications dissapear from view, I have to hit crtl+alt+tab to bring it
back in view and drag it into its original position.
3. The display displays blank screen for certain lower resolutions.

Architecture: i386

dissapeared, and it did not cycle through properly.

[Bug 427093] Re: help for label merge is (apparently) out of date

2009-09-09 Thread Matt Warnock
Turns out I had not done the steps to declare a proper data source,
though I thought I had. That process was obscured by the fact that
Ubuntu did not by default install Base, and merge only succeeded for me
AFTER I had installed it. I assume it is needed for the data source
declaration step.

I still feel this is a user interface misfeature-- to have the
View->Data Sources menu completely missing (rather than greyed out, for
example) is needlessly confusing. I have been an Office user for years,
though I haven't used the merge feature in a couple of years or more.

Help should also be more instructive on the overview of the steps needed:
1) Prepare the data, in a database or spreadsheet (or whatever the other
options may be)
2) Declare the data source (tell Openoffice how to access the data list)a
3) Create the template document (mail or labels), and place the merge fields in
the template
4) merge the data into the merge fields, then print or save the merged document

2009-09-09 Thread grhayes
Public bug reported:

I was playing connect 4. Easy enough game. Got down to only 4 boxes

seriously does not like loosing. If it had placed the coin down as
required I then would have placed mine on top connecting 4.

[Bug 425968] Re: sometimes no video on LCD after resume from suspend

2009-09-09 Thread skierpage
I believe I reproduced this. At 04:38am I put computer in sleep. The
next day I pressed the power button *AND* pressed a bunch of cursor
keys. As described in the bug the computer would not resume and I had
to power off. I then booted from my LiveCD, mounted my hard drive, and
looked around. There were no files in my hard drive's var tree
timestamped later than 04:38am, so it seems the computer did not write
to any log files when it failed to resume. I've since rebooted
normally.

var/lib/pm-utils/status contained "suspend"

var/lib/pm-utils/resume-hang.log was timestamped several days earlier,
it just contained a list of processes from that earlier time.

var/log/pm-suspend.log was timestamped from the suspend, its last lines
were:

 Save video state failed
 success.
 /etc/pm/sleep.d/action_wpa suspend suspend: success.
Tue Sep 8 04:38:40 PDT 2009: performing suspend

I have attached the Xorg.0.log from that time, which has the same
contents as my current /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old. Again, its timestamp is
from the suspend, I have nothing dating from the failed resume.

I hope all this helps, let me know what else I can provide. I looked at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume but it
doesn't have much on debugging the "Resume" part.
