[Bug 428814] [NEW] Removal of the package does not remove the cron.daily script

2009-09-13 Thread Illuvator
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Jaunty,

When removing amavisd-new it does not remove its cron.daily script,
which then gives errors every time it is run. This is easy to remove or
disable manually, but makes sense for it to be removed when uninstalled,

[Bug 428813] [NEW] package slapd 2.4.15-1ubuntu3 failed to install : subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-09-13 Thread Harry Sufehmi
Public bug reported:

I got slapd installed with suffix dc=example, dc=com, which was not
what we needed.

I tried to rectify this by dpkg-reconfigure slapd, and entered the correct
suffix now on the
DNS doman name prompt.
However, the suffix remained the same, as if I didn't change anything, much to
my confusion

So I erased /var/lib/slapd/* and /etc/ldap/* and
/var/cache/apt/archives/*, then typed : /sudo apt-get install slapd

Much to my surprise, it failed with the following error message :

Unpacking slapd (from .../slapd_2.4.15-1ubuntu3_i386.deb) ...

Setting up slapd (2.4.15-1ubuntu3) ...

Loading the initial directory structure from the ldif file

error while running slapadd:

[Bug 425265] Re: dsf

2009-09-13 Thread Kees Cook
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

2009-09-13 Thread Kees Cook
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Your bug report is more likely to get attention if it is made in
English, since this is the language understood by the majority of Ubuntu
developers. Additionally, please only mark a bug as security if it
shows evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries or to
directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any
other bugs you may find.

[Bug 429004] [NEW] Eucalyptus hangs euca-upload-bundle doesn't return

2009-09-13 Thread Gustavo Niemeyer
Public bug reported:

Eucalyptus is hanging during an euca-upload-bundle and the command euca-
upload-bundle doesn't return.

The ps output:

112 8313 0.0 0.3 51496 12340 pts/0S+ 15:16 0:00 python
/usr/bin/euca-upload-bundle --manifest
/tmp/tmpmObI_X/fe0859214e955a11d57d20665543bac2ac1bb1e1863fc1c95432bea73bbe9c59.manifest.xml
--bucket image-store

The lsof output for the connection with Eucalyptus:

python 8313 eucalyptus3u IPv4 31310 0t0 TCP
192.168.1.100:47195-10.0.1.50:8773 (SYN_SENT)

FWIW, the image being uploaded is actually a small kernel image, rather
than a big image. I don't think it's relevant for this case, though,
since apparently the connection was never established.

This was with Eucalyptus 673 installed from source (wth Neil's help),
but with the installed euca2ools_1.0+bzr20090731-1ubuntu2.

[Bug 429083] [NEW] axis2c segfaulting, causing CC to crash

2009-09-13 Thread Daniel Nurmi
Public bug reported:

The axis2/c package currently in karmic (1.6.0-0ubuntu4) segfaults under
load, causing the eucalyptus CC to crash after a few minutes of uptime.
Currently, I have been unable to get a stacktrace when running in a
debugger. When axis2/c is configured from source with '--enable-multi-
thread=no', there is no segfault. I'm reporting the bug here because
the eucalyptus symptom is a segfault reported in /var/log/eucalyptus
/httpd-cc_error_log on the CC machine.

[Bug 425922] Re: Eucalyptus component registration process is manual

2009-09-13 Thread Daniel Nurmi
I'm not sure that there is a good way to tell from a script whether they
have been registered, but I can say that the registration command is
idempotent. One can run 'euca_conf --register-walrus ip' many times,
and only the first time will have any effect (consecutive runs will
succeed, but the command is basically a NOP). Same for SC. Is this
sufficient behavior?

[Bug 429087] [NEW] after UEC front-end (cluster) install, key sync stage of registration cannot proceed without entering a password

2009-09-13 Thread Daniel Nurmi
Public bug reported:

Immediately after installing a UEC front-end (cluster), the next steps:

euca_conf --register-walrus ip of local machine
euca_conf --register-cc clusname ip of local machine
euca_conf --register-sc clusname ip of local machine

perform the registration of components, but synchronization of the
component keys fails because the script attempts to scp files to
'eucalyptus@ip of local machine', and the 'eucalyptus' user cannot scp
without entering a password. On the nodes, eucalyptus' id_rsa.pub is
automatically stored in ~eucalyptus/.ssh/authorized_keys, but this is
not happening on the front-end (resolving this would be one solution).

[Bug 418897] Re: Segfaults in apache2 with libapache2-mod-php5 installed

2009-09-13 Thread Ash
I experience exactly the same problem.

Workaround fix is:

Edit file /etc/php5/apache2/conf.d/suhosin.ini

Add/change line to read: suhosin.session.encrypt=off

You may also need to edit file /etc/php5/conf.d/suhosin.ini if it is not
just a symlink to the first one, or vice versa.

Probably same issue as mentioned here

[Bug 429169] [NEW] ec2: Include kernel modules in AMIs

2009-09-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

It is fairly standard practice to include kernel modules in images for
Amazon EC2, but the most recent Karmic AMIs do not include them:

  ami-a40fefcd
  canonical-alphas-us/karmic-i386-alpha5.1.manifest.xml

  ami-a20fefcb
  canonical-alphas-us/karmic-x86_64-alpha5.1.manifest.xml099720109477

Some other options have been discussed like building kernel modules into
the kernel or copying them from initrd into /lib/modules at boot time,
but the easiest approach to get things working in the short term is
probably just to follow the existing de facto standard and include the
kernel modules for the AMI's default kernel. If somebody wants to run
it with a different kernel, they are already used to having to install
those kernel modules themselves.

Ideally, the addition of the kernel modules would be done by default in
the vmbuilder EC2 plugin so that it works when normal users create
images with vmbuilder. If it is done some other way, the method should
be documented publicly so that users can create working images.

[Bug 363150] Re: ipw2200 page allocation fault - no wlan until reboot

2009-09-13 Thread Peter Klotz
This kernel is definitely an improvement.

In the case below the machine survived three Firmware error detected
messages without having to allocate memory:

- machine reboot
Sep 8 22:13:08 centrino kernel: [ 27.629943] ipw_alloc_fwbuf(6464)
Sep 8 22:13:08 centrino kernel: [ 27.657615] ipw_free_fwbuf(6464)
Sep 8 22:13:08 centrino kernel: [ 27.657620] ipw_alloc_fwbuf(168336)
...
Sep 9 15:00:53 centrino kernel: [60498.519701] ipw2200: Firmware error
detected. Restarting.
Sep 9 21:44:53 centrino kernel: [84738.557118] ipw2200: Firmware error
detected. Restarting.
Sep 11 17:00:55 centrino kernel: [240501.108055] ipw2200: Firmware error
detected. Restarting.
...

The firmware is simply reloaded and the connection is reestablished.

So I would assume the problem never was ipw2200.

Could it be that some other kernel module eats up the precious kind of
memory that ipw2200 previously needed to reload its firmware?

I have something in mind like Bug #328232 where the values in
/proc/dri/0/gem_objects keep constantly growing. It would make sense
that machines having an ipw2200 WLAN adapter also use an Intel graphics
chipset.

At least my setup and that of the original poster match this
configuration.

I'm affected too with my laptop backlight not turning off, and xset dpms

and doesn't sound like this 397839. I guess we'll find out when
commited fix when released takes care of this too...

[Bug 301035] Re: Place an Ubuntu icon/emblem on the system partition

2009-09-13 Thread mac_v
Marcus , the current patch upstream is not right , its a workaround. pls
read comment #20.

The work needs to be done as you have described [new naming],
If it is absolutely essential to get this done in Karmic , it is easier to edit
the gnome-dev-harddisk icon to have a logo than applying the current upstream
patch!

Also, you havent added your patch upstream, Why ?
And does upstream have a provision for feature freeze exceptions? [like Ubuntu
;) ]

[Bug 427463] Re: FFe: Sync java-gnome 4.0.13-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2009-09-13 Thread Onkar Shinde
@Stefan,

The bug you mentioned is not actually a bug in java-gnome. The doc generation
process in java-gnome tries to take screenshots of some demo apps running with
help of xvfb. This screenshot generation triggers a problem in glib when using
old kernels (which seem to be the case on Debian buildd).
Another similar bug is http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=543587

This failure should not happen on Ubuntu buildd. In case it does, I will
simply disable screenshot generation for that arch.

[Bug 427209] Re: printer will not work

2009-09-13 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 208913] Re: aprsd crashes when someone logs in from network

2009-09-13 Thread Scott Evans
Likewise I to have suffered some ill effect of this bug and have
resorted to using a closed source alternate called javAPRSSrv. However I
believe that this issue should be reviewed...

segmentation fault on amd64 but all OK on i386

easy way to replicate is run application then attempt a connection to
any of the available ports defined and the program will terminate!

I realise that the amateur population may be small, but the use of this
program is still an important aspect for many that do.

I'm happy to do some debugging if this is an issue... but I'm by no
means a programmer myself! ;)

[Bug 397839] Re: Screen randomly goes off in karmic

2009-09-13 Thread mac_v
Scott Howard ,
Since update gnome-power-manager (2.27.91-0ubuntu1) to 2.27.92-0ubuntu1
I havent seen the blanking *but* , i still [very often] get the notification
area icon with a tooltip that says Session active, not inhibited, screen idle.
If you can see this text, your display server is broken and you should notify
you distributer.
Please see
http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2009/08/17/gnome-power-manager-and-blanking-removal-of-bodges/
 for more information.

But i had blanking with *.91 so either the patch in *.91 didnt fix this
problem or it was fixed by these xorg updates[from xorg edgers ppa.] ,
which happened the same day as update *.92...

xserver-xorg-video-ati (1:6.12.99+git20090902.794ae743-0ubuntu0tormod) to
1:6.12.99+git20090908.fad9ee6c-0ubuntu0tormod
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.8.1+git20090829.7c48c21b-0ubuntu0tormod) to
2:2.8.1+git20090907.94fc93d4-0ubuntu0tormod
xserver-xorg-video-radeon (1:6.12.99+git20090902.794ae743-0ubuntu0tormod) to
1:6.12.99+git20090908.fad9ee6c-0ubuntu0tormod

Regarding the icon. notification area icon disappears in a few minutes
after using the system
So , if this blanking issue is fixed , why is gpm displaying the icon? is it
still broken or ... ?

[Bug 428746] [NEW] Going from A/C to D/C netbook thinks it's lid closed

2009-09-13 Thread David Wonderly
Public bug reported:

Karmic Alpha 5 UNR.

When unplugging A/C power from the netbook caused the netbook to sleep.
Upon investigation I have figured out that when the netbook is unplugged
it registers that the lid is closed. when I open gnome-power-preferences
and change the lid close to blank screen that is what the computer does
when I pull the power cord.

Not sure if it is a kernal issue or an issue with pm-utils.

Kernal Version: 2.6.31-10-generic

pm-utils version: 1.2.5-2ubuntu5

Attached is the dmesg that shows everything when I unplug the power
before I changed the gnome-power-preferences.

[Bug 428361] Re: firefox crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-09-13 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and trying to help make Ubuntu
better. However, it seems that you are not using a software package provided
by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because of this the Ubuntu project can
not support or fix your particular bug. Please report this bug to the provider
of the software package. Thanks!
If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and Ubuntu
the following pages should be informative:
1. http://www.ubuntu.com/community/ubuntustory/components - information about
Ubuntu repositories
2. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories - information regarding
managing repositories.

We do not support 64 bit flash currently in Ubuntu. You can subscribe
to Bug #326555 if you would like to be notified when it is released.
Please report any other issues you may have.

[Bug 416567] Re: Taskbar module often does not show window in the list

2009-09-13 Thread Matthieu Baerts
Thank you for this report !

Just to confirm the svn equivalent is the weekly repo , right? yes but with
bzr ;) .
I will upload the rc2 soon (this afternoon probably)

I think that Java windows don't repect rules but I don't know. Maybe Fab can
fix this bug ;)

PS : If you want there is a tutorial and a script for bazaar :
http://www.cairo-dock.org/ww_page.php?p=From%20BZRlang=en
But the weekly ppa is easier and faster to use.
(Attention : if you switch from svn to weekly without a uninstall, you maybe
have some bugs... but you can apply this command :
  $ sudo rm -f /usr/lib/cairo-dock/libcd-*integration*

It would not be entirely wrong, considering that all bugs reported 1)
really aren't upgrade-system but rather update-manager issues and 2) the
very few exceptions to this concern APT behavior (upgrade-system is just
