[Bug 456985] [NEW] account configuration not working
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I seem to be getting refused ssh access for regular users (root works fine) when I have both unix and krb5 PAM modules configured but no user accounts in /etc/{passwd,shadow} (i.e. because they are provided by the password map in NSS_LDAP and authenticated by Kerberos) sshd in debug mode reports: Access denied for user brian by PAM account configuration and when I look at common-account, the error seems to make sense: # here are the per-package modules (the Primary block) account [success=1 new_authtok_reqd=done default=ignore]pam_unix.so # here's the fallback if no module succeeds account requisite pam_deny.so # prime the stack with a positive return value if there isn't one already; # this avoids us returning an error just because nothing sets a success code # since the modules above will each just jump around account requiredpam_permit.so # and here are more per-package modules (the Additional block) account requiredpam_krb5.so minimum_uid=1000 # end of pam-auth-update config There is no shadow information for this user for pam_unix to verify, so pam_unix returns some kind of non-success, which means not jumping over pam_deny. I figured out that the following fixes the problem: account [authinfo_unavail=1 success=1 new_authtok_reqd=done default=ignore] pam_unix.so which basically tells pam_unix.so that if the shadow entry is not there, don't worry about trying to verify it's values -- which is apparently it's account behavior. ** Affects: libnss-ldap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- account configuration not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456985 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 456985] Re: account configuration not working
Sorry, but this is a libnss-ldap bug or a bug in your configuration. The pam_unix module checks the password field returned getpwnam() for the value 'x', and if found, consults the shadow database. If libnss- ldap isn't going to make the shadow database available, then it shouldn't refer callers there by returning this 'x' value. pam_unix is working as intended when it refuses access for a user configured this way. ** Package changed: pam (Ubuntu) = libnss-ldap (Ubuntu) -- account configuration not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/456985 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libnss-ldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Mathias, I'm not sure I understand your comment. Isn't it the maintainer's job to maintain Maven? By your logic, if I don't know enough about the trip computer in my car to maintain it, I shouldn't rely on my car? Also, I love Ubuntu and have been using it exclusively since Breezy, but it does have a bit of a reputation for having bugs that go unfixed (often for years) unless a critical mass of people are vocal enough about them. Clearly, maintainers are volunteers and don't have the time to fix every bug, and that's why I would think that comments such as the ones you mentioned are critical for helping you decide which get priority. -- [FFe] Sync libmaven packages from Debian unstable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/427539 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libgoogle-collections-java in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

I can sympathize with Doko's frustration. Personally, I find the OMG, kittens will die comments from people not involved in Ubuntu development very frustrating and demotivating. [Bug 427539] Re: [FFe] Sync libmaven packages from Debian unstable
@Matthias and Scott I can understand your frustration, as well -- I was an official developer for another distro circa 2003-2006. Dealing with emotions, cares, and the people attached to them, via bug reports, can be difficult, and is almost always frustrating. However, the statements made above are asinine. I'm simply *not* a Java developer, in a traditional way. I was a) Trying to use Maven with a Ruby (JRuby) application I've inherited, and b) I'm trying to get my feet wet with Scala (whos' tutorial references and uses Maven). While I'm slowly becoming accustomed to the complexity of launching, running, and maintaining Java applications, I personally only view Maven as a tool in my arsenal. Maven is (erroneously often times) compared to 'make', as it is frequently used similarly. Can you imagine if 'make' was broken? And would you demand that bug reporters were C language masters if they were reporting how a broken 'make' was affecting their application? In other distros I've developed for, or simply used, I've never seen people /discouraged/ from reporting bugs, or extending reports, even if the additional information was This is how it broke for me, and this is why I care / what I'm doing. I'm *really* glad this bug is getting resolved. I'm sorry if my last comment wasn't especially helpful, however, I'd suggest offering critical commentary on what is helpful in a comment, instead of complaining about complaint comments, so to speak. The statement from Scott that I find the OMG, kittens will die comments from people not involved in Ubuntu development very frustrating and demotivating is itself extremely demotivating, unprofessional, and rather /unkind/, and most certainly not something I expected from the Ubuntu developers and community. Again, thanks for the work and fixes.

[Bug 453453] Re: libvirt sometimes hangs when using pulseaudio
This affects me on 2 computers, 100% of the time, and finding information about the problem was quite hard. If this isn't going to be fixed, perhaps a warning that having a soundcard in the VM may cause libvirt to hang would be a good idea. Interestingly, the exact same VM booted directly with the exact same kvm line as the one libvirt uses (as pulled from ps -ef |grep kvm) works fine. I haven't yet been able to test this extensively, but it appears that removing the sound card from the VM is indeed a workaround. -- libvirt sometimes hangs when using pulseaudio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/453453 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

So I've added a bunch of packages to this bug, as I'm not entirely sure where it's at. Most likely, most of these will be marked Invalid eventually. But at this point, the bug is somewhere among: * virt-manager * libvirt * qemu-kvm * pulseaudio. I have noticed that if I stop the pulseaudio process on my host, I do not see the problem. Also, if I run qemu-kvm directly with `export QEMU_AUDIO_DRV=alsa`, I do not see the problem. :-Dustin -- libvirt sometimes hangs when using pulseaudio https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/453453 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 453453] Re: libvirt sometimes hangs when using pulseaudio
If using the alsa backend for qemu makes the symptom go away, it's fairly unlikely that PulseAudio is the culprit, since using the alsa backend still routes through PA on the host due to the pulse alsa-plugin being used. [Bug 457860] [NEW] Non-ubuntu Eucalyptus images won't work on UEC by default - no key injection
Public bug reported: Karmic UEC. The non-Ubuntu images referred to in the Cloud controller interface won't work with UEC in either of the MANAGED mode settings. [Bug 457864] [NEW] Cloud Web interface should allow overcommit on CPU
Public bug reported: Currently the default installation of UEC restricts the number of VMs based on the lower of memory and core numbers retrieved from the node controllers. There should be an option in the visual interface to allow a cluster to overcommit on CPU. Ordinarily when you're providing VMs on a cluster memory is the only restricting factor you require - kvm does a good job of sharing out processor power. CPU cores should be the number of cores available to the instance rather than dedicated to it. The workaround at the moment appears to be increasing MAX_CPUS to a large value in the cluster controller. ** Affects: eucalyptus Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: eucalyptus Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Cloud Web interface should allow overcommit on CPU https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/457864 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
