[Bug 458904] Re: When installing a node, euca_find_cluster fails to locate the cluster controller if instances are running

2009-10-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
I tested the proposed update-based solution and it does *not* seem to
work:

* Added the avahi-publish upstart job
* Restart cluster
* Cluster has:
$ ip addr show eth0
2: eth0: BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP
qlen 1000
link/ether 00:13:20:f8:4d:11 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 169.254.169.254/32 scope link eth0:metadata
inet 192.168.0.127/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global eth0
inet6 fe80::213:20ff:fef8:4d11/64 scope link
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
* Launch UEC node install : euca_find_cluster says 192.168.0.127:8774
* On Cluster, add an IP address: sudo ip addr add 192.168.0.230 dev eth0 label
eth0:pub
* Cluster now has:
$ ip addr show eth0
2: eth0: BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UP
qlen 1000
link/ether 00:13:20:f8:4d:11 brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff
inet 169.254.169.254/32 scope link eth0:metadata
inet 192.168.0.127/24 brd 192.168.0.255 scope global eth0
inet 192.168.0.230/32 scope global eth0:pub
inet6 fe80::213:20ff:fef8:4d11/64 scope link
   valid_lft forever preferred_lft forever
* Launch UEC node install: euca_find_cluster now says 192.168.0.230:8774

You still have to explicitly disable IP address publication for it to work:
Add publish-addresses=no to [publish] section in avahi-daemon.conf
Then new addresses won't be published and resolution will always work.

[Bug 458904] Re: When installing a node, euca_find_cluster fails to locate the cluster controller if instances are running

2009-10-28 Thread Martin Pitt
How about this, for a h4ck1sh SRU:

 - Change avahi's init script to prefer /etc/eucalyptus/avahi-daemon.conf if it
is present
 - Change euca package to ship this.

This would avoid euca having to change another packages' conffile (which
is a grave policy violation for good reason), and should DTRT, does not
change avahi's default behaviour, and the changes are small enough to be
SRUable.

Would that work?

2009-10-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
Yes it would.

Other SRU-based options have been considered in #ubuntu-release by mdz,
mathiaz and kirkland, but were not mentioned here. That made me doubt
that the solution presented in comment 10 was appropriate. In light of
that discussion and Martin's solution, I think we can safely discuss the
best fix postrelease.

[Bug 406466] Re: 2.6.31 - Can't see files in CIFS-mounted directories

2009-10-28 Thread ^_Pepe_^
Thanks.

I've been able to put my NAS to work in 9.04 (after some bugs) with CIFS
command. Something like this

//192.168.1.20/User /home/user/NAS cifs
iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,noperm,uid=1000 0 0

Should it be the same?

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 462140] Re: maximum 61 running instances, others shutting down

2009-10-28 Thread Thierry Carrez
Thanks a lot for this precious testing on your impressive configuration.

I see the following in cc.log:

running cmd '///usr/lib/eucalyptus/euca_rootwrap ip addr add 172.19.16.1/23
broadcast 172.19.17.255 dev eth0:priv label eth0:priv'
could not bring up new device eth0 with ip 172.19.16.1
failed to add gateway IP to device eth0

I suspect ADDRPERNET=512 is having a side-effect here.
Could you try ADDRPERNET=100 and see if you can reliably start up ~98 instances
?
Or try ADDRPERNET=32 and start 100 instances in 4 separate groups of 25 ?

Thanks in advance !

[Bug 451314] Re: [SRU]PHP 5.2.10 zlib bug remains for 32bit

2009-10-28 Thread Chuck Short
Statement of Impact:

PHP in karmic was shipped without a patch that causes users on i386
systems unable to use the zlib library.

How this have been addressed:

I have re-enabled the 019-z_off_t_as_long.patch for php. This has to
been added again when lucid starts again. I have attached the debdiff to
this bug for your review.

How to reproduce:

1. Install php5-common, php5-cli
2. Run the following command:

?php
var_dump(function_exists(gzopen));
?

3. It should return bool(true) but it doesnt.

There should not be any regressions with this patch enabled. If you have
any questions please let me know.

Regards
chuck

[Bug 284760] Re: aki and ari should default to sensible values for the chosen suite in the ec2 plugin

2009-10-28 Thread Scott Moser
This definitely would be nice. Because I've been delinquent on getting
a replacement for ec2-version-query, its really not possible right now.

At some point, I hope to be producing something on s3 storage that is
web accessible and laid out like ec2-version-query, so this would be
easier to do.

At very least, though, you'd have to feed vmbuilder a region to run in
(or default to us-east-1). I don't think vmbuilder takes any such input
right now.

[Bug 451801] Re: some keys print characters instead of performing their actions

2009-10-28 Thread Chris DiMartino
Is there a workaround for this behavior? I am having the exact same
issue using the bundled mysql client:

ch...@zaphod:~$ mysql --version
mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.37, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using EditLine
wrapper

CTRL-left arrow produces ;5D
CTRL-right arrow produces ;5C
DEL produces ~
CTRL-R is non functional

Losing these integral shell features makes the application mostly
unusable to me. I am going to need to pull a copy of mysql source and
compile my own client to have it usable again. This seems to me to
elevate this above wishlist importance. Is there a configuration file
that can be used (ala .inputrc) to map these key combinations back to
their appropriate configuration?

[Bug 449735] Re: [SRU] [karmic] Long SMB share names invisible and corrupts encodings

2009-10-28 Thread Chuck Short
Statement of Impact:

Karmic shipped with a bug in samba that if the share name is more than
12 characters long then smbclient wont display it.

How this bug has been addressed:

This bug has been fixed by the upstream samba developers in
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6829. This patch has been
accepted in Samba 3.4.3

I have backported the patch to Samba 3.4.0. I have attached the patch to
this bug.

How to reproduce:

1. Install samba
2. Create two shares like the following in the /etc/samba/smb.conf:

[test1]
comment = test1
read only = yes
path = /tmp
guest ok = yes

[thisisareallyreallyreallylongshare]
comment = thisisareallylongshare
read only = yes
path = /tmp
guest ok = ye

3. Restart samba
4. Run the following command: smbclient -L localhost
5. The first share test1 should be displayed in the output however the second
one will not be.

There should not be a regression from this patch. If you have any
questions please let me know.

Regards
chuck

[Bug 462626] [NEW] [karmic] Authentication failure from Windows 7 when domain joined.

2009-10-28 Thread Chuck Short
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

When authenticating to a domain joined samba server with NTLMv2 from a
Windows 7 client, a valid password is being denied. The same request
succeeded with NTLMv1. The key to this repro is accessing the server
via a hostname so Windows 7 adds a SPN to the target information section
of the NTLMv2 Response.

Re: [Bug 449735] Re: [SRU] [karmic] Long SMB share names invisible and corrupts encodings

2009-10-28 Thread SteveHardyHastings
Chuck, I don't know if I'm meant to reply to this but I just had to say how
impressed I am, you don't get this kind of service with Windows! (I have to
use it for work).

Using Karmic on a netbook mainly and it's a real pleasure to use.

Thanks, Steve H

2009/10/28 Chuck Short chuck.sh...@canonical.com

 Statement of Impact:

 Karmic shipped with a bug in samba that if the share name is more than
 12 characters long then smbclient wont display it.

 How this bug has been addressed:

 This bug has been fixed by the upstream samba developers in
 https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6829. This patch has been
 accepted in Samba 3.4.3

 I have backported the patch to Samba 3.4.0. I have attached the patch to
 this bug.

 How to reproduce:

 1. Install samba
 2. Create two shares like the following in the /etc/samba/smb.conf:

 [test1]
 comment = test1
 read only = yes
 path = /tmp
 guest ok = yes

 [thisisareallyreallyreallylongshare]
 comment = thisisareallylongshare
 read only = yes
 path = /tmp
 guest ok = ye

 3. Restart samba
 4. Run the following command: smbclient -L localhost
 5. The first share test1 should be displayed in the output however the
 second one will not be.

 There should not be a regression from this patch. If you have any
 questions please let me know.

 Regards
 chuck

[Bug 462656] [NEW] 408 (timeout) errors could be made more explicit when due to file system being full

2009-10-28 Thread Nick Barcet
Public bug reported:

Torsten reported:
When trying to access Walrus I lately get a lot of timeouts. This happens when
starting an instance (e.g. it's in pending state forever) or when accessing S3
with euca-delete-bundle:

spind...@lysander:~/Work/cloud$ euca-delete-bundle -a $EC2_ACCESS_KEY -s
$EC2_SECRET_KEY -U $S3_URL -b image3 -p root.img --clear
-
 4 0 8
path=/services/Walrus/image3/?max-keys=0
Failure: 408 Request Timeout

After a bit of searching, he figured that it was due to his file system
being almost full. I think it would be nice if Walrus was returning a
more explicit error message in this case.

[Bug 296327] Re: smb:/// No application is registered as handling this file

2009-10-28 Thread Sune Woeller
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 9372 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/9372

I can confirm this problem in 9.04:

Typing smb://servername in a nautilus windows location bar works. But
bookmarking this and trying to open the bookmark gives the error No
application is registered.

Using Connect to server gives the same problem.

After applying the fixes from the last post by Michael Gefen (adding
nautilus as smb:// protocol handler) it works.

This should just work - so can the gconf settings be included in a
bugfix release? Or should this bug be reported some where else in the
stack?

regards,

Sune Woeller

[Bug 458904] Re: When installing a node, euca_find_cluster fails to locate the cluster controller if instances are running

2009-10-28 Thread Mathias Gug
Release notes:

Extending an existing Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud may fail during node
controller installation started from the ISO with the Install Ubuntu
Enterprise Cloud option. The Node installation fails with an error
message stating that the preseed file cannot be downloaded from the
Cluster Controller as the wrong IP address is used to connect to the
Cluster Controller.

The workaround is to conduct a standard package installation rather than
an ISO installation: Install a default Karmic server and then install
the eucalyptus-nc package. Additionally the system's primary ethernet
interface needs to be configured as a bridge and the Cloud Controller's
eucalyptus user's public ssh key needs to be copied into the Node
Controller's eucalyptus user's authorized_keys file. More detailed steps
can be found in the UEC Package Install tutorial, Step 3 at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEC/PackageInstall.

[Bug 426497] Re: kqemu mode not compiled for karmic

2009-10-28 Thread Nigel Pallett

 /usr/bin/qemu: invalid option -- '-domid'

That's odd, as qemu doesn't have a feature domid. Even the
unavailable options are listed with qemu -help.

Are you sure to use the newly compiled qemu? which qemu will tell you.

Which sources are you using? I'm using the plain sources from
www.qemu.org. By default, they install into /usr/local and the
resulting binary lives in peace along with the one from the Ubuntu
package.

I'm using the latest sources from the Qemu site.

The problem occurs when I'm using virt-manager or virsh to run the
Virtual Machines under kqemu.

It worked fine under hardy,intrepid, and jaunty.

[Bug 406466] Re: 2.6.31 - Can't see files in CIFS-mounted directories

2009-10-28 Thread tomatogoatee
I'm pretty sure the problem I'm having is related to this bug, so I'll
throw in my two cents.

When I connect to a windows share on my Jaunty box, I use:
sudo mount -t cifs -o username=xxx,password=yyy //192.168.xxx.xxx/share
/mnt/share
and I'm able to connect, read, write and delete files just fine without using
sudo.

When I do the same on my Karmic box, it connects and I can read files
without issue. However, I cannot edit, write or delete anything without
being root or sudo.

[Bug 462749] [NEW] vsftpd-2.2.0 (currently in karmic) is affected by pasv_address regression

2009-10-28 Thread up-whatever
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vsftpd

vsftpd 2.2.0 kills the connection after client sends PASV, when using
pasv_address in vsftpd.conf.
http://vsftpd.beasts.org/ lists this as a crash regression and i can confirm
that vsftpd 2.2.1 fixes the problem for me.

The pasv_address setting is important for running vsftpd behind NAT,
therefore i think the vsftpd_2.2.0-1ubuntu1 package in karmic should be
updated.

[Bug 461528] Re: apparmor blocks migration

2009-10-28 Thread Dmitry Ljautov
As for hostnames it works perfectly for jaunty, not for karmic.

In Jaunty live migration worked with:
listen_tls = 0
listen_tcp = 1
auth_tcp = none
in /etc/libvirt/libvirtd.conf

Worked in Jaunty:
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node1/system migrate --live vm1
qemu+tcp://node2/system

hostnames node1 and node2 should be in /etc/hosts or setuped any other way.
vm1 guest is in running state.

Here is a few changes i made in profiles to test migration in karmic.
To bind libvirtd (libvirtd_opts should be with -l key to
/etc/default/libvirt-bin) add to /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd:
  network inet dgram,
  network inet6 stream,
  network inet6 dgram,

I also added my nfs share to save and restore domains out of $home in
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/libvirt-qemu:
  /mnt/nfs/save/** rw,

Worked in karmic:
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node1/system save vm1 /mnt/nfs/save/vm1
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node1/system restore /mnt/nfs/save/vm1
I suggest there's enough permissions for migration. or not?

Also tried migration under karmic, too:
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node1/system migrate --live vm1
qemu+tcp://node2/system
Tried to test when vm1 guest is in running state (in suspended state the same
result).
It seems to pass right, but guest hangs after migration (but in virsh list it
correctly shows it running on destination host after migration even if vm1 was
suspended before migration). But if i suspend and resume guest it became
working like if guest was paused before migration:

# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node2/system suspend vm1
# virsh --connect=qemu+tcp://node2/system resume vm1

But such live migration not a _live_ migration as it should be for
running vm1 guest. There's a non-zero downtime between suspend and
resume. :(

I think problem is not only in apparmor profilies (tried to turn off at all).
Any ideas?

PS. Sorry for terrible English.

[Bug 458521] Re: kvm crash when using virtio for network, hardy guest

2009-10-28 Thread Dustin Kirkland
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: kvm

  I was running a kvm host with 5 virtual machines using jaunty. 1 running
  centos 5.4, 3 running karmic and 1 running hardy.

  I upgraded the host to karmic to test it and one of my virtual
  machines(the vm with hardy) crashs after some seconds of boot! I stack
  traced the kvm process and found a virtio-net truncating packet before
  process crash.

  No error in any log file. The VM just crash.

  I changed the model of network interface(the disk is still virtio) in
  VM.xml to rtl8139, redefined and started. The problem goes away.

  I don't know if it's a kvm bug or libvirt(regarding the bridge network)
  bug but definitely is a bug. All other VMs are running OK with virtio

[Bug 451314] Re: [SRU] PHP 5.2.10 zlib bug remains for 32bit

2009-10-28 Thread Mathias Gug
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: php5

  The zlib bug in PHP 5.2.10 that was fixed in 5.2.11 was patched into
  php5 5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu5, but the bug's effect is still visible when
  using PEAR:

  (*** attempt to install a PEAR package via the pear command, with default
behavior of download TGZ file ***)

  $ sudo pear -vvv install Console_CommandLine
  Notice: file_exists(): Unable to find the wrapper channel - did you forget

  (*** installation dies silently after the TGZ is downloaded ***)

  (*** try it via the -Z option, which tells PEAR to download TAR instead
  of TGZ ***)

  (*** note the install ok ***)

  This bug has *not* been seen via the #pear testers using amd64 systems... it
has only been seen on i686 systems. This point was true also with the previous
-ubuntu4 package.

  *** Also note that the -Z workaround will *not* work successfully while
  the symlink bug (#451277) exists, as the symlink bug alone is enough to
  cause a PEAR package installation to fail.

  Bug Report Characteristics:

  1)
  $ uname -a
  Linux izi-desktop 2.6.31-13-generic #45-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 13 02:08:03 UTC
2009 i686 GNU/Linux

  2)
   $ apt-cache policy php-pear
   php-pear:
 Installé : 5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu5
 Candidat : 5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu5
Table de version :
*** 5.2.10.dfsg.1-2ubuntu5 0
   500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
   100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  3)
  sudo pear install {packagename} should succeed with install ok, without
needing to add the -Z arg

  4)
  The install command silently dies after the TGZ file is downloaded
(..done: 37,554 bytes)

+ Installing PEAR modules on i386 fails
+
+ When installing pear modules on an i386 system the installation will
