Public bug reported: Pendant l'installation de Ubuntu 9.10, tout se déroule normalement jusqu'au moment où l'installation de mysql commence. Il y a toujours le même problème: Impossible d'installer mysql-server-5.1. Un message d'erreur me dit qu'il est impossible d'écrire dans le dossier mysql situé dans MonDisque://var/lib/mysql. le message : No space enough in /var/lib/mysql/ Je me rends dans Nautilus en mode root (en console : sudo nautilus puis mot de passe root). Là, le fichier mysql est signalé comme cassé et inutilisable. Il est en grisé, avec deux petites icônes sur l'icône de fichier, une croix et une autre (que j'ai oubliée. désolé). Un click droit confirme le fichier comme étant cassé. J'efface le fichier. Je reviens dans synaptic et installe mysql-serve 5.0 et ses dépendances selon la demande de synaptic. Cela terminé, j'installe mysql-server 5.1 et ses dependances via toujours synaptic. Maintenant, il peut écrire dans un fichier mysql tout neuf et l'installation de Ubuntu 9.10 se termine correctement. Je peux utiliser Ubuntu normalement sans problème ainsi que neogia. Il semble donc que lors de l'installation de Ubuntu 9.10, sur une version jaunty mise à jour normalement, il y ait un problème lors d'une (tentative d')écriture dans ce fichier /var/lib/mysqul/. Had the permission issues with Karmic also. Original box was upgraded from Jauntyand all mounts showed up as ro, without being able to fix it with an rw setting. Directories mounted into also had their ownership changed to root. file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777 fixed the permission problemsthis is with smbfs. Forgot to mention, after the upgrade the HD crapped out. I then had to put a new 9.10 on new HD, and issues were identical. Neither noserverino nor permissions fix worked for me. I still can't list the files on my Time Capsule, although I can navigate using directory names I remember. I am using the following mount options on my Ubuntu 9.10 machine (the problem was already on 9.04, as I just upgraded a few days ago) mount.cifs .. -o domain=mydomain,credentials=/home/$USER/.smbcredentials,nobrl,iocharset=utf8 The samba server is running on a Debian 5.0 xen-DomU with samba version 3.2.5. The xen-Dom0 is Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Linux xen-samba 2.6.24-24-xen #1 SMP Tue Aug 18 18:15:39 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux). I have not found any file corruptions on the shares yet. So I guess the cifs files are some sort of temp files. They do not do any harm except looking ugly and eating up filespace. I can confirm the Win7 issue. I just installed 9.10 today and am unable to access my Win7 shared folders. I get the same can not get file list error. I was able to get sharing files with the XP computer in the house using the tutorial at the Ubuntu forums. I have file and print sharing on and password sharing disabled in Win7. Putting simply: Option AGPSize 32 as suggested by Tormod doesn't work for me. gnome-appeareance-properties refuses to switch desktop effects on. If I add: Option BusType PCI desktop effects can be enabled but gdm is unstable: the screen gets all black if I open a few firefox windows. Increasing AGPSize to 64 works but I get a kernel panic few minutes after logon if I open several windows. [Bug 434390] Re: Cannot Get Lock Displayed Over and Over Again From KPackagekit
After leaving synaptic running for 24 hours, I logged into my desktop, and there are like 100 stacked kpackagekit error messages. The error messages were so much that the window manager disabled composite functionality. After closing all the windows, my desktop is unusable, it basically left me with nothing to do but reboot. I guess I could have restarted X.org from a ssh session, as I have the default ctl+alt+backspace disabled. Luckily alt+F2 worked and allowed me to issue a reboot command, which allowed me to restart the window manager without a full reboot. This has to be the worst error handling I have ever seen, in any system (cept maybe the blue screen of death), and I think it is more than just a problem with kpackagekit. Instead of a single error console-like window to display errors, there are windows that get stacked off the screen, eventually consuming the system or window manager memory. This should NEVER happen, error messages are error messages, and should not allow a denial of service to the window manager. When you say installing it doesn't work any better than installing the one in the repositories, I don't understand what repository you are talking about here. Please be more specific, I don't understand either when you say the one in the repositories requests a model that exists, yet insists it is not installed, and the latest version asks for module yum. [Bug 478160] [NEW] Xorg sometimes sees signal 11 after upgrade to Karmic
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg After upgrade the x server usually crash during boot with sig 11. I can start X with startx and it works just fine. I have never had any stability problem with this computer before the upgrade and do not believe this is a hardware problem. Other problems after upgrade, using KDE: hibernate and sleep do not turn off the computer and shutdown button is not present or disappears during session, I don't think this is related to the reported bug, but anyhow... It's OK, but it is not described in its package description nor {README,
changelog, NEWS}.Debian. I had wasted a hour of googling to find that.
In addition, when I purged the gnome-mount, gnome-volume-manager was
also purged automatically. Is it also deprecated? If it is, it also
should be noted.

Discovered bug while searching a PDF that had been output by LyX. This could be reasonably frustrating in very long documents. I'm fairly sure this bug was not present in kpdf on KDE 3, as I remember being able to search for words with ligatures in them when I first discovered ligatures and wanted to zoom in on a nice, PDF rendering of one. I will check to see if the bug is present in kpdf. Verified with Ubuntu 9.10 32 bit here. Processor is an Intel D Graphics card is an Intel. lspci output is: VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) I think it's a 45000 HD or something like that. Either the computer will crash back to the login screen, or just shut off. I will also be willing to attach any relevant logs; I just don't know which ones would be relevant. I am running Karmic 9.10 on a old Pentium 4 computer with PATA drives. I copied a 2.6 GByte file from an ext4 partition to another ext4 partition, then to a ext2, then to the original ext4. No problem. I meant to write more information in the comment above, but here it is: I have a family member who uses Ubuntu exclusively and enjoys playing Solitaire for hours on end. Her computer has been crashing quite often. I'm not usually around to witness it, but every time I asked, she responds saying that all she was doing was playing Solitaire and she doesn't know what else happened.
