[Bug 493100] [NEW] init.d/slapd script reports an error message that could be improved.
Public bug reported: The end of the slapd script reports an error if there 'was no' configuration files in /etc/ldap/slapd.d/ by equating 'fail to read' with 'does not exist'. However 'fail to read' could be due to permission issues such as a regular user calling /etc/init.d/slapd. The error should be adjusted to reflect this is a 'fail to read' issue which *may* be due to : 'does not exist' or to 'could not access'. The error message could simply be expanded to include the possibility that the user did not have access rights, or the script could be improved to determine if that is the case and report a separate error. thanks, --adrian I suspect the issue is general to all ubuntu install scripts but, if needed: Karmic 9.10 Amd-64 slapd 2.4.18-0ubuntu1 (openldap) ** Affects: openldap (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- init.d/slapd script reports an error message that could be improved. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/493100 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openldap in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 462169] Re: nmbd dies on startup when network interfaces are not up yet
I just wanted to add what I know. On a Celeron D 2.53, 650i, 4 GB, I did not have this issue, or at least I didn't notice it. When I switched over to AMD X2 4800+, 780G, 2 GB, I began to experience this issue. For what it's worth, if I reboot warm, the issue only occurs about half the time. If I reboot from cold (power off and or AC all the way off), it reproduces itself reliably. The 0.0.0.0 address listed in the log someone provided earlier looks like a clue. So just for fun I set the network from DHCP to Manual fixed static IP, and now several totally cold boots later, nmbd runs OK all by itself without needing anyone to hold its hand. It's not a perfect solution, especially if you have lots of PCs to manage, but for me it's fine. My guess is that on a faster CPU maybe with multiple cores, there is a serialization issue where nmbd gives up just before DHCP has successfully set the IP address. I'm just guessing based on the single-core machine not really having this issue. Yes, by default in samba, files created by the guest user are created under the account specified in configuration under guest account, by default user nobody. [Bug 491483] Re: after recent update which included xorg, xserver etc causes low-graphics mode error at start
I have to report that this bug does also affect other login-managers (well, one at least: Slim). And I am using a Nvidia 9500gt video card - not an ATI. So it does not seem to have much to do with the video card actually. I had the same problem: After an update with the automated update-manager yesterday and the following reboot I was left with the low graphics mode-error. _Sometimes_ clicking through run in low-graphics-mode for one session etc. led me to my normal login (with Slim). And I would even get a running Compiz... a bit surprising for the expected low-graphics-mode... but Compiz would silently die sometime in between and leave me without graphic-effects. Yet very often after reboot I was left without a login and only with scrambled colors on top of the screen or, even worse, a crashed system with a black blank screen where only turning power off helped! I tried many possible solution-variations of tinkering with xorg.conf, deleting and reinstalling the Nvidia-drivers etc. - all to no avail. I was so sure that this had something to do with the updated kernel and non-fitting or conflicting video-drivers... But it was apparently a conflict between GDM and the other login-manager - in my case Slim, not KDM. Directly after deinstalling Slim and dpkg-reconfigure gdm the low-graphics-mode problem is gone. Seems to me its _not_ KDM or Slim who are having the bug. ** Also affects: slim Importance: Undecided Status: New -- after recent update which included xorg, xserver etc causes low-graphics mode error at start https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/491483 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 470604] Re: Window List buttons do not always respond to mouse clicks
I have everything as standard as possible, no eye-candy. I have latest nvidia drivers. I have dual-head setup. But, if GDK_NATIVE_WINDOWS fixes it, doesn't that mean the Window List code should simply be re- compiled against a recent GDK library? If it's a compile-time problem, that should pinpoint it really quickly. As for the upstreamness, I was under the impression that I use Ubuntu so that I don't have to be aware there is such a thing as upstream, let alone that I'd have to run around posting bugs in every upstream project out there. [Bug 403408] Re: Grub 2 problem, error: no such device
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/grub-devel/2009-12/msg00095.html Has a possible fix for this bug. If I understand the patch correctly it doesn't actually get search by UUID to succeed but makes it no longer a fatal error. So rather than the menu entry failing, the search --fs- uuid --set command will fail but allow the other commands to run. Since root was set first by drive and partition number if those are still correct then boot will succeed. There are two problems with this: 1: If you move your drives around then the hard coded device will be incorrect and booting will fail 2: Since this is caused by grub not being able to read the entire drive due to BIOS limitations, if you don't have a separate small /boot at the beginning of the drive you could run into problems later on even if things are work initially. For instance if you ever have a kernel update where the new kernel happens to be stored past what the BIOS can read that kernel will fail to boot. Similarly with a grub upgrade, with important files like the grub.cfg or modules being written past what the BIOS can read, grub could fail to load entirely. But it's still better than the current situation. It is basically the same as removing the search line for those with this BIOS limitation while allowing search by UUID for those without. This is all only true if I am understanding what the patch does correctly though :) -- Grub 2 problem, error: no such device https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/403408 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 294092] Re: tg3 transmit timeout in Intrepid
Hi all, I have same problem here with an HP NC6000 with the following broadcom network adapter: 02:0e.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5705M_2 Gigabit Ethernet (rev 03) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device 0890 Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 11 Memory at 9000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] [virtual] Expansion ROM at 6c00 [disabled] [size=64K] Capabilities: access denied Kernel driver in use: tg3 Kernel modules: tg3 Here are my observations: Sometime, the network link still up (ethtool confirm it) but input packages seem discarded... in this case rmmod modprobe made it... But sometime, the computer completely freezes (either magic sysrq doesn't help)... I saw also that it doesn't depend on packet size but on network bandwidth usage: Full size packet in my lan causes that problem (~100MBPs), whereas full size packet from internet works ok (~3MBPS) MTU still at 1500 (when reducing this value, network is unresponsive) Finally, I saw that sending and recieving packets causes lots of IO (what I mean is that it takes remaining idle CPU).
