[Bug 502081] Re: /dev/net/tun does not exist

2010-01-04 Thread Thierry Carrez
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 499491 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499491

Recent changes to the initramfs apparently reduced the modules-needed-
for-boot by leaving out tun. Running sudo modprobe tun before
attempting to start the VPN should work.

[Bug 502878] [NEW] Samba 3.4.0 won't let win98 clients to connect

2010-01-04 Thread Radek Krahl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

 lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.10
Release:9.10

 apt-cache policy packagename
apt-cache policy samba
samba:
  Installed: 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1
  Candidate: 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1
  Version table:
 *** 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5.1 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2:3.4.0-3ubuntu5 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages

There exist a bug in samba 3.4.0 (fixed in version 3.4.1), which doesn't
allow windows 98 clients to connect to samba server. Samba bugzilla link
is:

https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6551

It would be nice if changes mentioned there could be backported to
ubuntu samba package. Recently we've upgraded our server to karmic and
few of our computers still using windows 98 are unable to reach their
shares.

[Bug 50430] Re: NIS has problems starting before the network comes up

Has anybody managed to work around this on Karmic?

I just upgraded to Karmic, and my previous workaround is no good any
more, and I now have to (re)start NIS manually at each boot :-(.

Also, the top of the bug page says This bug affects you and one other
person. Considering the amount of people subscribed to this that
doesn't sound reasonable, please mark the top of the bug page if you're
affected!

[Bug 498614] Re: SSH in and out of host produces bad packet length on fresh build

2010-01-04 Thread Chuck Short
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the

[Bug 502149] Re: winbindd service and ntlm_auth

2010-01-04 Thread Kai Blin
Being the person responsible for the Wine dependency, here's my take on this:
ntlm_auth without winbindd is technically useless for about every use case
besides the (still) limited way Wine uses it. Given that most package managers
go and install recommends, you'd then get (at best) Wine recommending ntlm_auth
recommending winbindd, which (for all my understanding of packaging) would
still leave you with winbindd being installed.

In the future (depending on how soon I get around to work on this
again), the coupling between Wine and the Samba Authentication service
(aka winbindd) will increase. Given that most other distros also package
ntlm_auth with the winbind package, I'm not convinced Ubuntu should
deviate from the packaging single-handedly. Of course that's the Ubuntu
packager's decision, not mine. I'd say if winbindd starting up really
bothers you more than the fact that Wine is installed but never used,
I'd suggest you just update-rc.d -f winbindd remove (or however you do
the same with the new system).

[Bug 425346] Re: Banner displays two \

2010-01-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package openssh - 1:5.2p1-1ubuntu1

---
openssh (1:5.2p1-1ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Add support for registering ConsoleKit sessions on login.
- Drop openssh-blacklist and openssh-blacklist-extra to Suggests; they
  take up a lot of CD space, and I suspect that rolling them out in
  security updates has covered most affected systems now.
  * Convert to Upstart. The init script is still here for the benefit of
people running sshd in chroots. Note that the Upstart job does not
support /etc/default/ssh, because it's much more straightforward to edit
the job (/etc/init/ssh.conf) than it was to edit the init script.

openssh (1:5.2p1-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (closes: #536182). Yes, I know 5.3p1 has been out
for a while, but there's no GSSAPI patch available for it yet.
- Change the default cipher order to prefer the AES CTR modes and the
  revised arcfour256 mode to CBC mode ciphers that are susceptible to
  CPNI-957037 Plaintext Recovery Attack Against SSH.
- Add countermeasures to mitigate CPNI-957037-style attacks against the
  SSH protocol's use of CBC-mode ciphers. Upon detection of an invalid
  packet length or Message Authentication Code, ssh/sshd will continue
  reading up to the maximum supported packet length rather than
  immediately terminating the connection. This eliminates most of the
  known differences in behaviour that leaked information about the
  plaintext of injected data which formed the basis of this attack
  (closes: #506115, LP: #379329).
- ForceCommand directive now accepts commandline arguments for the
  internal-sftp server (closes: #524423, LP: #362511).
- Add AllowAgentForwarding to available Match keywords list (closes:
  #540623).
- Make ssh(1) send the correct channel number for
  SSH2_MSG_CHANNEL_SUCCESS and SSH2_MSG_CHANNEL_FAILURE messages to
  avoid triggering 'Non-public channel' error messages on sshd(8) in
  openssh-5.1.
- Avoid printing 'Non-public channel' warnings in sshd(8), since the
  ssh(1) has sent incorrect channel numbers since ~2004 (this reverts a
  behaviour introduced in openssh-5.1; closes: #496017).
- Disable nonfunctional ssh(1) ~C escape handler in multiplex slave
  connections (closes: #507541).
- Fix whitepsace typo in ssh_config(5) (closes: #514313, LP: #303835).
  * Update to GSSAPI patch from

http://www.sxw.org.uk/computing/patches/openssh-5.2p1-gsskex-all-20090726.patch,
including cascading credentials support (LP: #416958).
  * Use x11.pc when compiling/linking gnome-ssh-askpass2 (closes: #555951).
  * Moved to bzr.debian.org; add Vcs-Bzr and Vcs-Browser control fields.
  * Add debian/README.source with instructions on bzr handling.
  * Make ChrootDirectory work with SELinux (thanks, Russell Coker; closes:
#556644).
  * Initialise sc to NULL in ssh_selinux_getctxbyname (thanks, Václav Ovsík;
closes: #498684).
  * Don't duplicate backslashes when displaying server banner (thanks,
Michał Górny; closes: #505378, LP: #425346).
  * Use hardening-includes for hardening logic (thanks, Kees Cook; closes:
#561887).
  * Update OpenSSH FAQ to revision 1.110.
  * Remove ssh/new_config, only needed for direct upgrades from potato which
are no longer particularly feasible anyway (closes: #420682).
  * Cope with insserv reordering of init script links.
  * Remove init script stop link in rc1, as killprocs handles it already.
  * Adjust short descriptions to avoid relying on previous experience with
rsh, based on suggestions from Reuben Thomas (closes: #512198).
  * Remove manual page references to login.conf, which aren't applicable on
non-BSD systems (closes: #154434).
  * Remove/adjust manual page references to BSD-specific /etc/rc (closes:
#513417).
  * Refer to sshd_config(5) rather than sshd(8) in postinst-written
/etc/ssh/sshd_config, and add UsePAM commentary from upstream-shipped
configuration file (closes: #415008, although unfortunately this will
only be conveniently visible on new installations).
  * Include URL to OpenBSD's ssl(8) in ssh(1), since I don't see a better
source for the same information among Debian's manual pages (closes:
#530692, LP: #456660).

[Bug 500195] [NEW] 9.10 Nautilus - Cannot access FreeNAS CIFS/SMB folder containing more than 627 files

2010-01-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Attempts to access a folder on a FreeNAS CFIS/SMB share via Ubuntu 9.10
Nautilus that contains more than 627 files results in: The folder
contents could not be be displayed (Invalid argument) and inability to
view folder contents.

Test Case:
**
1. On local hard disk, create two folders (temp627 and temp628) containing
627 and 628 files respectively.
File names in temp627 were xaaa, xaab, xaac, ... xayc
File names in temp628 were xaaa, xaab, xaac, ... xayd
Each file contained a single x character (files generated using split
command though this is likely irrelevant). Note that contents of both of these
folders may be accessed without issue using Nautilus while they reside on the
local hard disk.

2. Start Nautilus via menu (i.e.,
PlacesNetworkServerSharefolder). Sequentially, copy temp627
and temp628 from local hard disk and paste to the share (in Nautilus
view).

3. Double-clicking on temp627 on the CFIS/SMB share in Nautilus
results in the folder opening and contents accessible, but double-
clicking on temp628 on the CFIS/SMB share in Nautilus results in the
folder contents cannot be be displayed (Invalid argument) message and
contents not accessible.

4. This behavior was repeated on multiple shares and in multiple folder
locations. NOTE: Utilizing a Windows XP system, I CAN access both folders on
the share without issue and all of the files are present.
**

This test case was more than just a curiosity -- I have several folders
with many (~10,000) files on the share and would like to be able to
access via Ubuntu. Is this a known limitation or bug? Does anyone have
any suggestions that would resolve this limit? Is there some other way
I might access these files via Ubuntu?

[Bug 456806] Re: mountall vomits a shell onto virtual console when you run vi

2010-01-04 Thread Laurent Birtz
Demonize code:

/* Become daemon */
if (daemonise) {
pid_t pid;

/* Fork once because Upstart makes us a session leader,
 * or we may be a session leader of an existing process
 * group.
 */
pid = fork ();
if (pid  0) {
nih_fatal (%s: %s, _(Unable to become daemon),
   strerror (errno));

exit (EXIT_ERROR);
} else if (pid  0) {
exit (0);
}

/* Create a new session */
setsid ();

/* Fork again so that we're not the leader of that session */
pid = fork ();
if (pid  0) {
nih_fatal (%s: %s, _(Unable to become daemon),
   strerror (errno));

exit (EXIT_ERROR);
} else if (pid  0) {
exit (0);
}

/* Usual daemon cleanups */
if (chdir (/))
;
umask (0);

/* Send all logging output to syslog */
//openlog (program_name, LOG_PID, LOG_DAEMON);
//nih_log_set_logger (nih_logger_syslog);

nih_signal_set_ignore (SIGHUP);
}

The standard input file descriptor isn't closed so mountall is still
using the terminal after the daemon is started. The daemon is thus
reading input from the terminal and modifying its settings concurrently
with whatever process is using the terminal after the launch of mountall.

On my system running 'mountall --daemon' manually will hang the shell
roughly 50% of the time. The race condition is highly
environment-dependent. Running with strace -f won't trigger the problem,
for example.

In my opinion the behavior of mountall --daemon is broken.

This bug is still present in mountall-2.1.

[Bug 487270] Re: improve wsdl stubs generation

2010-01-04 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package eucalyptus - 1.6.2~bzr1120-0ubuntu2

---
eucalyptus (1.6.2~bzr1120-0ubuntu2) lucid; urgency=low

  * Merge debian/patches into the branch, since we're using bzr for merging:
- debian/patches/axis2c_home_init.diff, debian/patches/series,
  tools/httpd.conf: change the location of the Axis2 Apache module to
  match what is provided by the libapache2-mod-axis2c package, from
  Thierry Carrez thierry.car...@canonical.com -- 7 Dec 2009
- debian/patches/series, tools/gen_kvm_libvirt_xml: Ubuntu prefers to
  rely on libvirt's default choosing of the appropriate hypervisor, from
  Dustin Kirkland kirkl...@ubuntu.com -- 2 Dec 2009
- Makefile, clc/build.xml, clc/modules/bootstrap/Makefile,
  clc/modules/module-inc.xml,
  clc/modules/storage-controller/native/Makefile,
  clc/modules/www/build.xml, cluster/Makefile,
  debian/patches/03-DESTDIR.patch, debian/patches/series,
  gatherlog/Makefile, node/Makefile, tools/Makefile, util/Makefile:
  + this patch makes the eucalyptus installation work with a configurable
destination directory, much better for packaging
  + this patch should be applied upstream (Dan Nurmi agreed to do so),
in which case we should get back in sync
  * debian/rules, debian/wsdl.md5sums, debian/wsdl_generator: improve wsdl
stubs (LP: #487270);
- fail build if wsdl stubs need to be updated
- create a script that verbosely automates wsdl stub generation for
  package maintainer(s)
  * debian/patches/01-wsdl-stubs.patch, debian/wsdl.md5sums: wsdl stubs updated

our network. No obvious differences (to me) between the two -- they run
similar apps -- although the afflicted machine often runs a VirtualBox
guest WinXP virtual machine. I'd be glad to run diagnostics if someone
can suggest what to do.

[Bug 502846] [NEW] no /usr/include/gtkmm directory makes compilation non-standard

2010-01-04 Thread Sean Hunt
Public bug reported:

gtkmm headers are normally included from the directory 'gtkmm' (see
http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtkmm-tutorial/unstable/sec-connecting-
signal-handlers.html.en). This package installs '/usr/include/gtkmm-2.4'
only, meaning that extra hacking (e.g. a symlink) is required to use the
library as intended.

A similar, but lesser, complaint can be attributed to the lack of
libgtkmm.so

[Bug 173675] Re: g15daemon: Fail to install when required hardware is not present

This was solved in Debian, release 1.9.5.3-5 (using udev to start the

working, although it is not a nice solution. The real solution will
requires reimplementing libg15 with a newer libusb API (working in
progress).

b) Ubuntu setup (no kernel bug)

[Bug 496467] Re: remuco-amarok is not executed automaticaly

2010-01-04 Thread Karel Kozlik
IMO it's common behaviour of such applications that they are executed on
startup by default. It's similar to apache, exim, dhcp server etc... If
you afraid that users will complain, you can add a configuration dialog
asking whether start remuco by default or not.

But if it is possible to hook remuco onto amarok loading, it will be the
best solution.

[Bug 502846] Re: no /usr/include/gtkmm directory makes compilation non-standard

2010-01-04 Thread Murray Cumming
No, you need to use pkg-config to discover the include and linker flags:
http://library.gnome.org/devel/gtkmm-tutorial/unstable/sec-headers-and-linking.html.en

This is the same for most other libraries, such as GTK+ and has been for
many years. Just putting them in /usr/include would prevent parallel
install of incompatible major versions.

[Bug 491377] Re: mdadm uses one more spare that specified while creating a RAID5 array

2010-01-04 Thread Aryeh Gregor
From the man page:

   When creating a RAID5 array, mdadm will automatically create a
degraded array with an extra spare drive. This is because building the
spare into a degraded array is in general faster than resyncing the
parity on a non-degraded, but not clean, array. This feature can be
overridden with  the --force option.

I admit that I don't understand this at all (spotted this bug while
looking for something else), but thought it might be helpful.

Are you trying to play a commercial dvd? Most of them are encrypted. To
play encrypted DVDs, you have to install libdvdcss2, which you can get
at
http://packages.medibuntu.org/pool/free/libd/libdvdcss/libdvdcss2_1.2.10-0.3medibuntu1_i386.deb.
If you are trying to play a homemade DVD, then it is probably a bug.

[Bug 502474] Re: rhythmbox should be able to export (and import) songs ratings

2010-01-04 Thread marco.pallotta
Well I think it's useful for the reporter for two resons:
1) so that he only has one place (launchpad) to track all the bugs he is
subscribed apart from the fact they are upstreams or not upstreams bugs or they
are posted to bugzilla.gnome or bugzilla.mozilla and so on (txs to launchpad
for this functionality)
2) so that he has (expecially for not skilled users) the perception that is
Ubuntu the responsible of bugs (as well as feature requests) as Mark
Shuttleworth sayd in his post Ubuntu’s role in bug management for the whole
free software stack (http://www.markshuttleworth.com/page/2). So if an Ubuntu
user would report a bug he should only search for it on launchpad without the
need to know that is an upstream bug and for that particular package he should
post the issue on a separate bug management system that he should looking for.
