[Bug 553342] Re: spnego references incorrect realm via winbind when joined to AD and spnego is enabled

Looks like https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6815

Fixed upstream in 3.4.3 and in Lucid. Please confirm that this is indeed
the same issue and/or that you cannot reproduce on a Lucid beta.

[Bug 448674] Re: VM is suspended after live migrate in Karmic

2010-04-02 Thread Mark Burgo
Well Question then?

Karmic is to be supported for another year, correct?

This is a bug with karmic correct?

the workaround is to suspend and then resume the vm this removes live
migration from the mix if I have to do the suspend and resume. Why not
just backport libvirt-0.7.2 from the version of lucid that was working
to karmic so that live migration works as advertised?

Lucid is still at beta 1 while I will try it for you it is not usable
in production because to much of the pacemaker utilities are not in the
lucid release at this time requiring ppa's to be installed for fully
functional systems.

Weather the bug meets the SRU is not the question the question is we
have a bug on a system that redhat released the patches for months ago
and it was not fixed on a ubuntu release that is to be supported for
another year. This needs fixed as not everyone will install lucid the
day it is released. I enjoy working with ubuntu and this is a problem
that must be corrected before the release of lucid on the karmic
platform.

Unless you have a full workaround that does not require someone
connecting and suspending and resuming the migrated VM then it is not a
valid workaround. we need the vm to migrate without human intervention

Thank You

P.S. the lucid beta 1 is being installed as we speak on a set of test
boxes to attempt the test. However, as I stated above not all of the
pacemaker+openais/heartbeat packages are in the beta release so it is
not even a valid environment to run any thing on at this time.

[Bug 553737] Re: [lucid] merge libvirt to 0.7.7

2010-04-02 Thread Jamie Strandboge
** Description changed:

For LTS support and tons of bugfixes, it would be good to merge libvirt
0.7.7 to Lucid. This is a placeholder bug and is being discussed and
evaluated by the server team (in ubuntu-server mailing list),
  particularly Dustin Kirkland.

There are mainly two problems so far:
- 1. scsi attach is broken due to moving to device_add. These changes could be
backed out with some work or upstream could patch it soon and we cherrypick it.
This is a blocker because it breaks eucalyptus volume attachment.
+ 1. scsi attach is broken due to moving to device_add. These changes could be
backed out with some work or upstream could patch it soon and we cherrypick it.
This is a blocker because it breaks eucalyptus volume attachment. This is
upstream bug https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=578975.

  2. 0.7.7 uses a stacked security driver which means the DAC security
driver is on by default and changes the permissions of the files it uses
to that of the user running qemu. On Ubuntu this is root. This may be
unexpected behavior for people who store images outside of /var/lib.
  This only happens with qemu:///system.

'2' we can live with, but '1' is a blocker.

Mark , I fully agree.
It should be fixed in Karmic.

I'm not going to use Lucid in production for the next 3-4 months.

Is it so hard to fix this bug? Probably it's not high on the list to be

[Bug 553737] Re: [lucid] merge libvirt to 0.7.7

2010-04-02 Thread Jamie Strandboge
As it turns out, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=578975 is
not a bug, but it is a functional regression. From the upstream bug:

09:07 aliguori jdstrand, you're adding a scsi disk to an existing scsi
  adapter
09:07 aliguori lspci isn't going to change
09:07 aliguori but you won't see anything in /proc/partitions until you
  rescan the scsi bus
09:07 aliguori which is not something that happens automatically
09:07 aliguori it's *not* pci hot add
09:08 aliguori it's scsi hot add
09:08 aliguori http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-3942
09:08 aliguori this is different than what older libvirts did
09:08 aliguori older libvirt added a new scsi controller for every disk add
09:08 aliguori which was incorrect
09:14 jdstrand aliguori: I'm just used to seeing this show up in the guest,
so the new behavior, while I understand it, needs to be dealt
with in applications that depended on the previously faulty
  behavior
09:14 aliguori yup

So, after using attach-device, I perform the following:
echo - - - /sys/class/scsi_host/host0/scan

Then the disk shows up in the disk.

[Bug 553737] Re: [lucid] merge libvirt to 0.7.7

2010-04-02 Thread Jamie Strandboge
From IRC from #ubuntu-server (excerpted):
09:36 jdstrand kirkland, smoser: in the past, libvirt created a new scsi
controller for every new device. this was a pci add which is
  why it showed up magically
09:37 jdstrand kirkland, smoser: this is incorrect behavior and now libvirt
adds disks to an existing bus, like what would happen in the
  real world
09:39 jdstrand smoser: also, aligouri (upstream qemu) reiterated that we
should not be using scsi hot add
09:47 jdstrand smoser: virtio hot add stills works
09:43 smoser it will absolutely break guests if devices don't just show up
09:48 jdstrand smoser: of course, kirkland mentioned euco is resistent to
  vd* devices
10:05 jdstrand kirkland, smoser: so the decision comes down to: do we stick
with the old 0.7.5, lose the bug fixes but maintain
deprecated scsi behavior and not touch euca for an LTS, or
move to the new 0.7.7 with its fixes, but new scsi behavior
  and updating euca
10:11 smoser the primary one, in my opinion, is that EBS (the functionality
exposed by attach/detach) is supposed to promise that your data
is SAFE
10:11 smoser and as we know, with buggy scsi, that is probably not the case.
10:13 smoser i'm open to a tested virtio solution because it is the
accepted solution for hotplug
10:15 jdstrand I'm betting you will see a performance gain over scsi as well
10:15 kirkland jdstrand: oh, the performance gain is huge
10:16 kirkland jdstrand: we're going to insist on it [Ed. virtio] for lucid+1
10:20 smoser kirkland, jdstrand i think, for maintainability that this is
probably somethign worth testing

So bottom line, for stability, integrity, maintainability and
performance reasons, kirkland and smoser will test virtio attach and
decide if it is worth pursuing. If so, 0.7.7 could still make it for
Lucid.

[Bug 448674] Re: VM is suspended after live migrate in Karmic

2010-04-02 Thread Mark Burgo
Jamie,

This bug was originally defined on 10-13-2009 the release of
Karmic was on 10-29-2009 This should have been fixed.

It was confirmed on 10-20-2009 and again on 10-29-2009. Then
marked as medium imporantance and confirmed.

I understand that you don't want to fix it so I will now wait a
month and see if it is in lucid correctly. Remember that the change
from Alpha 2 to alpha3 broke it again. Now beta1 breaks
pacemaker+openais/heartbeat hope everything is included in beta2 and
the RC when it comes out.

Status of this right now is that it is broken and will not be fixed. I
will get the current version of libvirt and build my own packages from
source as I had to do 5 years ago.

Thank you (Hope Lucid is operational or we will need to move on)

[Bug 448674] Re: VM is suspended after live migrate in Karmic

2010-04-02 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Mark, I understand your frustration, however keep in mind that the final
week before Release will only have the highest impact bug fixes to
reduce the chance of regression in the final release. Bugs are deferred
to '-updates' all the time in the week(s) prior to release for exactly
this reason. Also note that the bug is fixed in Lucid (or should be), so
there was progress on this bug. The question is whether to fix a
previous release, which was discussed before. Rather than hoping Lucid
is fixed, I highly recommend trying Lucid out and confirming this is
fixed and report any other bugs you might find. While I do not recommend
running the development release on a production machine at this time,
Beta-2 is next week and the focus of development at this point in the
cycle is stability and bug fixes. If there are bugs in Lucid, now is the
best time to report them so we can get them fixed.

[Bug 220731] Re: Time-synchronization in Ubuntu 8.04 (ntpd) gives +2 hours

2010-04-02 Thread Halvor
I have attempted to have this reopened now since Lohn Enok's problem
looks a lot like mine. I've had this problem for more than a month. I'm
not very technically literate. The clock is one hour off from what it's
supposed to be. I've received some help (on several occasions) on
#ubuntu on Freenode and #gnome on the gnome network.

Someone asked my why I'm using ntpd and not ntpdate. I don't know the
answer to that.

I was asked to include this with my bug report:

fredensb...@beboer-pc:~$ sudo ntpdate-debian

[Bug 292971] Re: nscd leaking memory using libnss-ldap

2010-04-02 Thread Mathias Gug
To setup a test environment:

 1. Install the following packages:

 sudo apt-get install slapd ldap-utils ldapscripts libnss-ldap

NB: Don't enter a root password.

 2. Check out the openldap-dit project to quickly setup a default DIT:

 bzr co lp:~mathiaz/openldap-dit/add-ldapscripts-files
 cd add-ldapscripts-files/

 sudo ln -sf ~/add-ldapscripts-files /usr/share/slapd/openldap-dit

 3. Install the default DIT:

sudo ./openldap-dit-setup.sh -y -d example.org -p mypwd

 4. Install the ldapscripts configuration files:

sudo cp ldapscripts/* /etc/ldapscripts/

 5. Add a new group:

   sudo ldapaddgroup testgroup1

 6. Edit nsswitch.conf to use ldap as the first provider for the group
service.

 7. Check that the testgroup1 is found:

getent group testgroup1

[Bug 456806] Re: mountall vomits a shell onto virtual console when you run vi

2010-04-02 Thread Peter McKenna
I've just come across this bug. I have the following setup.
/dev/md0 is a 4 disk RAID1 array (/dev/sda1 to sdd1) mounted on /.
/dev/sda2 to /dev/sde2 are all swap partitions (sde2 is on the spare disk). In
fstab all swap partitions use options sw,pri=1,ifexists. I don't think the
ifexists option is having any affect.
/dev/md1 is a 4 disk RAID5 array (/dev/sda3 to sdd3)with 1 spare (sde3) mounted
on /home.
When I tested a disk failure by disconnecting sda, the RAID arrays all worked
fine, but I started getting errors about the swap partition on sda2 not being
there. Then I got to experience the nasty effects that mountall has on
nano...(same as described on vim above) and the console. Interestingly, a
second console opened with ctl-alt-f2 is not affected.
It appears to me that mountall spews when it can't mount sda2 as if it is using
swapon -a instead of swapon -a -e, which is what I am trying to achieve with
the ifexists option in fstab.
I don't know how to pass the swapon -e option to mountall or even if it is
possible, but it would at least solve part of the problem if it was.

[Bug 374505] Re: Places/Network (samba)

2010-04-02 Thread Jeff Epstein
I have this problem, too. The Places/Network folder is unusable. I can
connect to a server directly if I give a name, but I can't browse.

findsmb lists no servers, not even the local host.
smbtree -N says WARNING: no network interfaces found
smbclient -L mycomputer correctly lists share but also gives the same warning
as smbtree -N

I have tried these tests both with ufw enabled and disabled; the result
is the same.

Any ideas?

[Bug 513273] Re: kvm with -vga std is broken since karmic

Dustin,

What is the risk of regression here by downgrading? Is use of vgabios

or are there some cases where it works?

vgabios has two reverse-dependencies in lucid: qemu-common and bochs.
Has anyone regression-tested this for bochs?

[Bug 553805] [NEW] amarok does not play mp3 files

[Bug 553803] [NEW] Desktop boarder problem caused by theme changes

2010-04-02 Thread Ryan Vickers
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Whenever I change a theme, a white boarder (~1 pixel outline) appears
around the edge of the desktop. I might not sound like much, but it's
rather annoying...

I've tried changing themes multiple times, wiping it off (covering it
with menus/windows), but nothing like that seems to work. However,
performing a killall nautilus does correct the issue*

One final detail: it's more than just a visual artifact of some kind -
the (right-click) menu cannot/will not open on the line - only on the
main part of the desktop.

*killing nautilus used to be a pain, as it was always difficult,
unreliable, and slow to reload. To whoever/whatever has changed to
correct this and make it reappear flawlessly and promptly (as it now
does), my deepest thanks go out to you for this!! It's simple little
experience enhancements like this that can take something from feeling
thick, slow, and bloated, to feeling lightweight, clean, and
efficient!

[Bug 550023] Re: first boot after installation of lucid beta 1 from dvd iso fails when using encryption

2010-04-02 Thread semi-newbie
The problem reported above was not particular to the dvd iso. Also, I
have since found the daily snapshot iso files at cdimage.ubuntu.com.

I have just installed the 20100401 amd64 server cd iso using the guided
encryption+lvm option, with grub 1 (legacy). I am able to normally boot
using this installation setup. I suspect that the fixing of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/527666 is the reason that the boot
process now succeeds.

[Bug 553347] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:53 suspend_test_finish+0x88/0x90()

2010-04-02 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Benjamin,

The warning reported here typically indicates that it took longer for
your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a
5 sec barrier which your system likely exceeded. Based on your dmesg
output I see PM: resume devices took 13.760 seconds. I'm setting this
to traiged for further investigation. Thanks!

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately.]

[Bug 553028] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.32/kernel/power/suspend_test.c:53 suspend_test_finish+0x89/0x90()

2010-04-02 Thread Jeremy Foshee
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 464552 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464552

Hi john,

The warning reported here typically indicates that it took longer for
your system to resume from suspend than expected. I believe there is a
5 sec barrier which your system likely exceeded. Typically you'll see
something similar to PM: resume devices took 8.664 seconds in your
dmesg output when this happens. A patch to prevent this warning has
been applied via bug 464552. As a result I'm marking this as a
duplicate to bug 464552. Please continue to track this issue at that
report. Thanks!

[Bug 542639] Re: 10.04 crashed during boot (wrong disply resolution)

2010-04-02 Thread ZeroBeat
Since daily-live (lucid desktop amd64 01.04.2010) first boot-screen uses wrong
resolution (attached picture).
Error message are not shown during boot anymore (but they're still in log).
When boot up sequence switches to the X display, the screen becomes corrupted.
There are portions of the screen from the last time the system ran, but they
are scattered across the screen. I can hear the Ubuntu startup sounds, so the
system is coming up.
(take a look at #542950).
But I can switch to console and enter commands.
blacklist=vga16fb didn't work
nouveau.modeset=0 didn't work
Best regards
ZB

2010-04-02 Thread Attila Hammer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usb-creator

Dear Developers,

Unfortunately, usb-creator-gtk is full unuseable my full updated Lucid system.
I have got a Toshiba Satelite L300 notebook.
Usb-creator-gtk produces various simptoms:
When I using usb-creator-gtk with normal way, when I click make startup disk
button, my entire system is freezed. I not see any useful information the
.usb-creator.log file. Only help when I kill X Server with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace
and logged in again. Impossible do after freeze another task, for example
impossible to restart my Orca Screen Reader, see Orca flat review command what
happening the screen. Very interesting, the used CD is not spinning after short
time. Usb-creator-gtk begin copying some little files, but not finished the
task.
I using an Ubuntu Lucid live CD and a 2GB Kingston Data Traweler USB pendrive.

I need usb-creator-gtk application, because if I known right, this is only a
simple accessible way if I would like make an USB startup disk with my Asus
EEEPC701 netbook.
Only work way if I go to my old Jaunty system and do this system the USB
startup disk now. Very interesting, same live CD, same pendrive works right
this system and boot correct my netbook.

The second simptomn: usb-creator-gtk is some time crash with sigsegv, I
report this problem with another bugreport with this day morning.

If you need another information, I try help you.
