Re: [Bug 556312] Re: libvirt packages should not Recommend hypervisor packages
I disagree. It wouldn't be found in a Xen installation would it. And if you want to use just remote URIs then ' installing this one without them is perfectly reasonable'. Would it not be more appropriate to split libvirt-bin into two packages - one of which is core and can be used for remote URI, testing and Xen installation and the other which is tied more closely to your ubuntu KVM strategy. There seems to be an increasing rigidity creeping into the Ubuntu mindset. On 7 April 2010 02:24, Mathias Gug math...@ubuntu.com wrote: According to the Debian policy: Recommends This declares a strong, but not absolute, dependency. The Recommends field should list packages that would be found together with this one in all but unusual installations. Suggests This is used to declare that one package may be more useful with one or more others. Using this field tells the packaging system and the user that the listed packages are related to this one and can perhaps enhance its usefulness, but that installing this one without them is perfectly reasonable. It seems that Recommends is the best option for qemu-kvm. Note that you can use the --no-install-recommends option with installing the libvirt package. ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist ** Changed in: libvirt (Ubuntu) Status: New = Won't Fix -- libvirt packages should not Recommend hypervisor packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556312 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. -- Neil Wilson -- libvirt packages should not Recommend hypervisor packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556312 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 345485] Re: libvirt does not remove interfaces on stop
I don't think this is correct the correct place to fix the bug; the name virbr0 shouldn't be hardcoded in the upstart script and the command- line ifconfig virbr0 start is bogus anyway. For instance, I personally disable the virbr0 interface, but I could easily imagine people renaming it or having multiple ones. This should be fixed in libvirtd itself instead; I'm not sure whether it is expected to bring down the networks on shutdown: if that's expected, then perhaps it can all the way and actually remove the interface as well, or it should at least bring up the interface again; I could also imagine it's expected NOT to touch the networks at all. -- libvirt does not remove interfaces on stop https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345485 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

a) shouldn't libvirtd handle this by itself as the other daemons do? I realize upstart is in the proper position to know that the service crashed, but upstart doesn't care about the pid file b) perhaps this: [ -f /var/run/libvirtd.pid ] rm -f /var/run/libvirtd.pid could simply be: rm -f /var/run/libvirtd.pid c) pidof /usr/sbin/libvirtd seems fragile to me; upstart must really have a good reason if it starts the libvirt-bin job; either this tests for an upstart bug, or this might match a locally started libvirtd; in either case, I don't think this test is needed. -- error : qemudWritePidFile:498 : Failed to open pid file '/var/run/libvirtd.pid' : File exists https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510658 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 557300] [NEW] tomcat6 package changes ownership of directories
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: tomcat6 I run tomcat6 on Ubuntu 8.10, installed from the tomcat6 package. I need to run tomcat as a different user to 'tomcat6' so have configured this via the TOMCAT6_USER variable in /etc/default/tomcat6. I then manually changed the ownership of tomcat's various directories for this to work. This has been fine for over a year and has survived updates to the tomcat6 package. However, this morning I upgraded to 6.0.18-0ubuntu3.3 and afterwards found that tomcat no longer ran. After investigation, I found that the upgrade had chowned and chgrped tomcat's directories to the tomcat6 user/group. This left tomcat unable to run as it couldn't read or write key directories. Looking at the tomcat6 package, this happens in the postinst script, during the configure stage. The same also happens in the current tomcat6 package in Ubuntu 10.04. I would suggest that these chowns/chgrps either be removed, or that they are made aware of the user that tomcat runs as. Hi Loic- a) If it was kill -9'd, I don't think the daemon can trap and handle that. b) Agreed. I'll change this in the next upload. c) I'm up for other ideas, here, but I think pidof() is about the best we can do at this point. I don't think this is about working around upstart bugs as much as it's about cleaning up libvirt's pid file. Agreed, libvirtd should be better about that (and better about not crashing). But fact is, it does die, it does leave its pidfile around, this does prevent libvirt from starting subsequently, and this does annoying Ubuntu users. You're welcome to upload another one on top of my next upload that cleans this up a little, if you have better solution(s). [Bug 510658] Re: error : qemudWritePidFile:498 : Failed to open pid file '/var/run/libvirtd.pid' : File exists
Dustin's right on 'a'. Can't catch -9 and if libvirtd dies for some reason, its pid file is left around. However, Loic is right about 'c' because of qemu:///session (I forgot about this when we discussed this initially). Since the upstart job is only for qemu:///system, and only the libvirtd for qemu:///system writes a pid file to /var/run, and upstart is smart about not starting things it's already started (is this true of 'pre-start'?), we can probably just forget the 'pidof' check and simply remove the pid file unconditionally. A comment in the job might be in order though, since the resulting snippet looks really weird: pre-start script mkdir -p /var/run/libvirt rm -f /var/run/libvirtd.pid ... -- error : qemudWritePidFile:498 : Failed to open pid file '/var/run/libvirtd.pid' : File exists https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510658 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libvirt in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 369575] Re: Why is /usr/share/pam-configs/krb5 specifying minimum_uid= ?
Isn't it possible to use debconf to change around the enabled profiles, via the libpam-runtime/profiles selection? Steve: I'm not sure I understand what you mean by automatically apply ... by the same mechanism. I can set minimum_uid in krb5.conf, but I also have to toss the minimum_uid= options in /etc/pam.d/common-*, because PAM module options take precedence over what's in krb5.conf. That's why I'm using a custom Kerberos profile. It's basically identical to the stock krb5 profile, just without the minimum_uid= bit. I *want* to use the package defaults---the only reason I can't is because minimum_uid is hardcoded in there, not in a conffile, and not under /etc. -- Why is /usr/share/pam-configs/krb5 specifying minimum_uid= ? https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369575 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to kerberos-configs in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 557016] Re: alsactl depends on X11
Well, if there are no processes running with pulse in their name, I ran alsactl, and the error message mentions the contents of $HOME or failure to initiate an X11 connection - I'm not sure how that's clearly pulse to a normal person who's not familiar with every string in libpulsecommon.so. :) All I've done is freshly install Lucid beta 1 using the alternate disk, update and dist-upgrade to get current, add the mythtv-frontend package, and turn on the PCM output using alsamixer. I've literally only spent a couple of hours on a fresh install on this particular machine. I played with it a little more, and clearing the DISPLAY variable before running the command makes the error message go away. In either case - with or without DISPLAY existing - the asound.state file is actually created. I ran an strace on alsactl, and sure enough, it's loading the pulse library and attempting to connect to the machine listed in DISPLAY right before that error message (pulse and X11 libs are loaded either way). So, I guess there's mostly a UI issue here: An error message is displayed which seems to indicate failure, even though the intended action is actually completed. I'd question why alsamixer is using pulse at all, but at this point, I'd be happy if either alsa or pulse somehow suppressed ignorable error messages. -- alsactl depends on X11 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/557016 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 453205] Re: CTRL-ALT-F1 switches off the LCD backlight in Toshiba Tecra R10
Hi Fernando, it appears when you made this bug report the -nv video driver was used since this is listed in your Xorg.0.log. We changed to using the -nouveau driver subsequently. You indicate you are still having trouble, but since it's a different driver, it's probably some other unrelated problem, and the logs you posted originally are no longer valid. [Bug 510311] Re: Touchscreen working on Lucid Alpha 2, Breaks with Recent Upgrades
Having updated and restarted today, it seems to give stylus tracking and clicks, but no pressure (in GTK and QT apps). Touch moves the cursor, but doesn't seem to register clicks. When I use a self compiled hid- ntrig.ko for myself, I get pressure in GTK apps and touch clicks, but currently I only have what's delivered by the packages. Not sure if there's any specific xorg.conf(.d) / udev thats needed for this setup. Is there any info I can provide that would help? -- Touchscreen working on Lucid Alpha 2, Breaks with Recent Upgrades https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/510311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
