According to the log, you were configuring 0.96+dfsg-1ubuntu1, not 0.96 +dfsg-1ubuntu2. This bug is one of the ones fixed by 0.96+dfsg- 1ubuntu2. Please sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade. If the diagnosis I posted above is correct, then the frequency with which this error appears will depend on both the virtualisation platform (in this case the KVM host) and the guest kernel. We virtualise CentOS 4.4 systems (2.6.9 kernel) and my colleague reports that, in two years of using VMware, he has not seen this error occur, and yet I can reliably repeat it with some frequency under KVM using Ubuntu Karmic. If you have seen the same problem using kernels =2.6.24, then maybe the above diagnosis is incorrect. It would be useful to verify the diagnosis by backporting the patch to the 2.6.9 kernel to find out whether it fixes the problem, but I don't really have time to do that. It is quite easy to set up a test system: install a guest OS with poweroff in /etc/rc.local, and then write a script that loops calling virsh start. Hello Scott, After upgrading the host to the latest packages I was now able to install Lucid-Beta2 and run it afterwards. I must admit that I'm now unsure if I remembered to upgrade after the initial Installation since I re installed a few times due to grub issues when installing on a USB drive yet fiddling with the grub installation of the internal drive (but I'll open separate report for that. For the record though: I used whatever the default for virt-manager is: Applications-System Tools-Virtual Machine Manager (here I had to create a new domain localhost (QEMU) due to missing privileges in the localhost (QEMU Usermode) domain) mouse right click-New Name: Lucid * Local install media (ISO image or CDROM) Use ISO Image: Browse to nfs mounted ubuntu-10.04-beta2-desktop.i386.iso image OS type: Linux Version: Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) RAM 512 CPU 1 * Enable storage for this machine * create a disk image on the computer's hard drive 20.0 GB * Allocate entire disk now Finish - Open vm-console to install Lucid in VM (the Installation was done in German in Austrian locale) using full vda block device. ... This is the way the upstream Samba project chose to fix this issue. See: http://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-3.4.6.html and https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7104 Unfortunately, there is no simple way to fix the issue without altering some setups. We prefer to disable wide links automatically, as unix extensions are important for unix clients. If wide links are important to you, and you don't use samba to server unix clients, you may disable unix extensions manually. I had the exact same problem with image decryption at walrus. The kernel and ramdisk are transfered fine to the nc. After reading this bug report, I upgraded to Lucid Lynx from Karmic, yesterday. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: php5 Something in php5 running under apache2 under Ubuntu 10.04 beta 2 (with updates) is not fully 64 bit aware on a 64 bit system. PHP scripts run under Apache correctly under Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (with latest updates). Under Ubuntu 10.04 beta 2, some place a value is being treated as 32 bits on a 64 bit system and is wrapping instead of using full 64 bits. Related to sending large data ( 4G) in response to an HTTP post request. What is expected: Full data (4G) downloaded via dynamic PHP based URL. What happens: Data aborts based on wrap. Calculated number of bytes to be served are correct (4G) as listed in the HTTP length header. Actual bytes served are (size) 0x instead of (size) 0x on 64 bit system. Most of data is being transfered via fpassthru($openFileHandle) call, providing 4G bytes of data. This bug affects me as well, BUT: My VMs (also build with vm-builder) occasionally cannot be restored, although I use virtio for disk and network interfaces. However, I cannot reproduce the effect. Sometimes, it happens in around 1 of 10 attempts to restore the VM, sometimes I can save/restore the machine a hundred of times without any problems.
